[0:23]rajim bismillah man rahim yeah I you had rescued by live MA
[0:27]unz de alaykum Arabic well in lunch a file from our beloved
[0:31]Rizal data well ah huuuh you see Makkah - in Allah ha
[0:38]ha d la dil comment carefully so that Allah Allah Allah deem
[0:51]these words mean from surah maidah ayah number 67 o messenger convey
[0:56]what has been revealed to you just been revealed to you and
[1:00]if you do not do so you will not have conveyed his
[1:06]message at all and Allah shall protect you from people surely Allah
[1:11]will not guide the unbelieving people all praise is due to Allah
[1:18]who is exalted in his unity near and his uniqueness sublime and
[1:25]his authority magnanimous and his dominance he knows everything he subdues all
[1:32]creation through his might and evidence he is praised always and forever
[1:38]glorified and has no end he begins and he repeats and he
[1:43]repeats again and to him every matter is referred allows the creator
[1:49]of everything he dominates with his power the earth and the heavens
[1:52]holy is he and praised the Lord of the angels and of
[1:55]the spirits his favours overwhelmed whatever he creates and he is the
[2:03]mighty / whatever he initiates these are the words that began the
[2:08]sermon of eda pedir for an all sermon by the holy prophet
[2:11]salallahu alaihe wasalam and our beloved emma they always begin with the
[2:18]praises of allah subhana wa ta'ala in magnificent words glorifying allah subhanaw
[2:23]taala praising him to no end and showing his dominance and dominion
[2:27]no message was conveyed without the remembrance of allah and his majesty
[2:33]and so we began this evenings lecture in the same vein and
[2:36]in this speech the EF RDSP she has to realize brothers and
[2:44]sisters was not just one line when you read about the e
[2:47]that idea event many scholars both Western and otherwise for other schools
[2:53]of thought they'd like to limit this speech to one line what
[2:59]line do they limited to man canto mola afar a Leon mola
[3:02]who whomsoever accepts me as master accepts Ali as master yes every
[3:08]scholar would like to reduce this speech which was actually if you
[3:13]have read it yourself it's almost two and a half to three
[3:16]hours long a two-and-a-half hour sermon reduced to one line and the
[3:24]enemies of Ali what would they like us to think that the
[3:29]Holy Prophet stopped all of these people in this hot desert place
[3:33]thousands of people right for what purpose to tell them all that
[3:38]this is his friend this is not the character of our prophet
[3:44]he did not trifle with people he did not waste their time
[3:47]he did not consider their feelings insignificant or their needs and significant
[3:52]no rather he was very attentive to the people there's no way
[3:56]that he would have stopped that many people for any purpose other
[4:01]than something magnificent glorious significant and absolutely relevant to the religion itself
[4:07]and this is what we're here to discuss now one of the
[4:10]points that I'm going to be discussing today is the love and
[4:16]hate of Imam Ali because this noble person sent by allah subhana
[4:20]wa ta'ala who was the twin of our beloved prophet was he
[4:25]loved by those who were loyal to him and he was incredibly
[4:28]and fiercely hated by those who were his enemies and even to
[4:35]this day those people still exist who fight this noble being in
[4:40]defiance of the prophets guidelines but who is this character who is
[4:45]Imam Ali Al Mortada the chosen one and he salaam here's what
[4:48]we see from our scholars he's the chief of the prophets successors
[4:52]the leader of the untainted ones at the resurrection the most righteous
[4:56]among the believers Ali ibn ABI Talib the Imam of right guidance
[5:02]the first to reach the gardens of felicity the hero of the
[5:06]brave the Avenger against the promoters of ignorance the giver of zakah
[5:10]the leader on the right and perfect path the speaker of what
[5:17]is true and appropriate the champion of Mecca the steadfast excel or
[5:21]know this comes to us from our history but let me ask
[5:24]you something who was lauding him like this who was giving him
[5:30]this praise who honored him this way those words i've just read
[5:33]to you are recorded in history who actually said them do you
[5:36]think it's someone who was completely in love with Imam Ali had
[5:44]no grievances against him do you know who this was it was
[5:47]a friend of Amir al-mumineen alaysalam who had fallen into sin but
[5:52]he had submitted to the prescribed punishment for his crime the cutting
[5:57]of his fingers the cutting of his fingers now there was a
[6:01]whole lot ijen instigator an agitator who came to him by the
[6:05]name of even Kalwa he said to this man why should I
[6:09]not extol him he said now that his friendship is mixed with
[6:12]flesh and blood he says I swear by Allah that he did
[6:17]not cut off my hand except with a right that Allah has
[6:20]established this is someone who took punishment from Ameer al-mumineen that was
[6:27]mandated by Allah's guidance and yet these are the words he uses
[6:34]to describe Imam Ali isn't magnificent he praises him he honors him
[6:39]he elevates his position and he submitted to the truth that he
[6:44]brought forward now this is the force of love this is true
[6:52]magnetism now when we look at this idea of love which is
[6:54]our theme tonight because we are all lovers of imam ali ali
[6:59]salam we need to examine first of all what does that mean
[7:01]and how do we put it into practice in reality because it's
[7:06]only one thing to say it with our lips it's another thing
[7:09]to live it it's another thing to testify it over and over
[7:15]again and it's another thing to really pay baya to our beloved
[7:18]Imam Ali now nothing in the universe exists without attraction and connection
[7:25]it's a potent force it's enigmatic we see from the atomic level
[7:33]that forces bind all of creation together from our own physiology to
[7:37]the global and galactic level the atmosphere that clings to the earth
[7:44]to the forces that keep the solar system in motion and galaxies
[7:48]in perpetual motion we see this force that binds now I was
[7:52]speaking to a physiology student once and this person said to me
[7:59]I was amazed by the door of imam hussain ali salam on
[8:01]the day of Arafah a physiology student right because in this beautiful
[8:09]daughter imam hussain describes all the pathways of the body and it's
[8:14]just remarkable and here too we see these bonds that keep this
[8:18]entire physiology together the places to which streams of light of my
[8:23]eyes are attached the places where my heart's diaphragm is attached and
[8:30]all these sinews that somehow stay bound together this force of magnetism
[8:35]that we even experience within our own being now on the human
[8:40]level this basis of attraction and love is resemblance we love to
[8:45]with those whom we resemble we love to connect with those whom
[8:52]we are like or the opposite can happen as well but to
[8:56]this point we'll focus on that love that brings you together now
[9:04]recognizing potent forces like love one must also realize the opposite exists
[9:09]as well because everything exists in polarities right north and south love
[9:17]hate these are polarities strong weak yes this is how life exists
[9:22]now in natural Bulava there's a hadith from the holy prophet sallallahu
[9:26]alayhi wa we'll sell them and it's recorded a llama celular muhammad
[9:31]were early muhammad o ali the believer will never be your enemy
[9:42]and the hypocrite will never love you the enemy will never be
[9:50]the one who loves you and the hypocrite will never be the
[9:58]one who loves you only the believer only the believer and this
[10:03]is from our beloved prophet now talking about this love Ayatollah Mata
[10:08]Hari says in his writings shiism he says it is at its
[10:16]core founded on love its foundation is laying with devotion there's another
[10:21]hadith that comes to us from imam al bathra and imam acidophilus
[10:25]alarm that's a test to this truth of love it says is
[10:32]the religion other than love is the religion other than love so
[10:36]love is devotional love it's steadfastness to truth it sends true devotees
[10:44]to levels of self-sacrifice that cannot be seen elsewhere and across time
[10:50]the true devotees are willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of
[10:59]the beloved let's look at some examples we know mate the matter
[11:03]MA he was crucified to a tree yet he Swiss ceaseless in
[11:09]his loving praise of Olly spouting devotion through torture and pain ultimate
[11:13]leading leading to the prophecy of Imam Ali I said I'm coming
[11:19]true and that was that obey daleiden is yad may curses be
[11:22]upon him ordered the tongue of Mather to be cut in order
[11:28]to cease the words that sparked fires of love and devotion to
[11:31]anyone listening this is what the enemies always did they had to
[11:35]silence the devotees of the AL obeyed if they couldn't stop them
[11:40]through threats they had to stop them through physical actions through torture
[11:44]through death because they had no other way to gain control over
[11:48]their powerful message now even a sick yet he's a noteworthy figure
[11:52]of Arabic literature and language and he was a peer of a
[11:58]Sibley who is known as one of our most important grammarians he
[12:01]was the tutor of the Abbasid caliphs al-mutawakkil children and he was
[12:09]asked once who was dearer to him the sons of ideally Salaam
[12:12]or the children of the Caliph and he said by Allah I
[12:18]swear that Ali's slave gambar is definitely dearer to me than these
[12:23]two and their father and what fate did he suffer for uttering
[12:26]this love and devotion the same as made them at amar as
[12:33]well tongue cut cutting that tongue that utters the truth because they
[12:37]don't know how else to deal with the truth now endure almond
[12:43]or which is by the sunni scholar a saluti we find the
[12:46]following hadith a lien was she at the whole home on fire
[12:52]assume Ali and his party his Shia will be the triumphant ones
[12:55]these will be the triumphant ones now bata he goes on to
[12:59]tell us something more about love what does he say he says
[13:05]these whisperings of love we see that there was a group around
[13:08]Ali who were devoted to him extremely fond of him and most
[13:12]affectionately drawn towards him so here again what does he say she
[13:20]ism is the religion of love and devotion taking Ali as one's
[13:23]friend is the way of love the element of love has completely
[13:28]penetrated shiism and when you hear these words tonight I implore you
[13:36]to reflect on that have you reached this level of love have
[13:39]you reached this level of devotion has this penetrated your being are
[13:44]you preoccupied with other worldly dunya things have you reached this level
[13:48]of chemistry of love now we know from the ancient esoteric art
[13:52]of alchemy that there's this process known as transmutation and this is
[13:59]taking one substance and changing it into another by utilizing what is
[14:05]known as the elixir the true elixir is in fact known by
[14:12]the mystics to be nothing but the power and force of love
[14:14]in the 16th century there was an Iranian poet who put it
[14:21]beautifully his name was kee Romani he said every heart that is
[14:24]not a flame is no heart every heart that is not a
[14:31]flame is no heart a frozen heart is nothing but a handful
[14:38]of clay what a beautiful word and then he goes on he
[14:41]says o God give me a breast that sets ablaze and in
[14:47]that breast a heart and that heart consumed with fire love therefore
[14:53]brothers and sisters is a force that moves it gives impetus it
[14:58]makes us truly human it makes us more than clay it makes
[15:06]us living beings love generates concern love generates Russian action it awakens
[15:17]sleeping powers within you it perfects your soul it brings out hidden
[15:22]capacities and strengths this is what love does and furthermore love generates
[15:30]obedience service selflessness and I want to use another important word and
[15:38]I want to highlight it in contrast to the social crises we
[15:44]find ourselves in the Western world and the eastern world no doubt
[15:50]there's no difference loyalty love engenders loyalty brothers and sisters when we
[15:57]look at the media today we see these barbaric acts being perpetuated
[16:01]of shootings innocent people died we see the tragedy in the Middle
[16:08]East of so many people being oppressed but also within our own
[16:11]society we have had the most grievous headlines and it's by the
[16:18]name of the Ashley Madison leak this is without going into too
[16:25]much detail a shame upon humanity that there even exists such an
[16:31]entity and for those of you don't know you can do your
[16:33]research but nonetheless what does this mean I'm talking to you about
[16:40]loyalty and love and trust how are we as a society embroiled
[16:44]in a world in which people choose to be disloyal purposefully as
[16:51]a recreation disloyalty as recreation how about that where have we sunk
[16:58]as humanity would you know that one of the most esteemed countries
[17:04]in the Middle East Turkey prized for its history prized for its
[17:09]architecture prized for its huge population of Muslims is the number one
[17:15]place in the world for sexual trafficking what a criminal state our
[17:21]world is in and how beloved is Allah to us and merciful
[17:27]that all of this this in our myths and yet he still
[17:28]allows us to exist and live and breathe subhanAllah but let's come
[17:35]back to this idea of love because if love doesn't transform us
[17:41]and make us more decent human beings than proclaiming the love of
[17:44]Imam Ali is just your lips let's get beyond that tonight what
[17:47]sorry again goes on to tell us that love awakens sleeping powers
[17:54]freeze chained and fettered forces just like the splitting of the atom
[17:58]and the freeing of atomic power it fires with inspiration love perfects
[18:02]the soul and brings out astounding latent abilities it strengthens the will
[18:09]and determination and when it rises to the highest aspect when it
[18:14]rises to the highest aspect it brings miracles moja supernatural events into
[18:23]existence it purifies the spirit it's cathartic its cleansing its purging and
[18:29]it takes us away from those qualities of the base egotism it
[18:33]takes us away from coldness into warmth it moves us away from
[18:41]envy avarice cowardice laziness conceitedness and self admiration as I make these
[18:44]lists think about yourself which one of these do you need to
[18:49]work on certainly we all need to work on all of them
[18:53]but pick one before you leave tonight love in fact is something
[18:59]that moves you out of yourself and into life love moves you
[19:05]out of yourself and into life it's different than the base animalistic
[19:10]passions which arise from the passionate urges and they also end their
[19:20]passion lives and dies within itself but love goes beyond passions keep
[19:25]you in meshed in the tangled webs of yourself but love frees
[19:33]you now for those of you who consider yourselves lovers of Ali
[19:38]is that the only goal is that an end in itself are
[19:44]we just doing this ritual of praise or are we making it
[19:47]a means of purification refinement change is this love and opportunity for
[19:53]the devotees to strive to the highest virtues morals excellence is this
[19:59]love and opportunity for the best qualities to rub off on you
[20:04]for the one you love yes are you gonna be like him
[20:09]now the Quran warns us to be careful of who we associate
[20:11]with right because it rubs off on us now if we want
[20:15]to be those who associate with imam ali ali salaam inshallah his
[20:19]qualities rub off on us and we take them on purposefully and
[20:23]inshallah resemble him now mata Hari also tells us that the effects
[20:33]of the intellect alone are not what can reform us in our
[20:37]morals no intellect alone cannot take us out of the evils of
[20:41]life that's like he said this is a beautiful explanation he says
[20:46]if you want to just use the intellect just your knowledge to
[20:52]make you elevate yourself he says it's like sitting with a pile
[20:57]of iron fillings and dust and trying to separate them by your
[21:01]hand iron fillings and dust separating by hand what an excruciating and
[21:06]troublesome task he says but on the contrary love which is like
[21:13]a powerful magnet in your hand could separate that in one sweep
[21:18]in one sweep the power of love is like a magnet that
[21:24]removes from you those things which defile you and leave that which
[21:28]is pure love is movement love is change it's surging with life
[21:33]and lethargy cannot take hold now I've said to you that there's
[21:41]an opposite when it comes to love and that is hate there's
[21:44]those who hated Imam Ali with a passion there's those who opposed
[21:51]him at step of the way and now as a student in
[21:53]Islamic studies reading this history firsthand I cannot tell you how much
[22:01]turmoil our beloved Imam Ali faced on the battlefields faced in the
[22:07]communities faced when he had to rectify all that had gone wrong
[22:10]prior to his leadership being finally acknowledged he dealt with so much
[22:18]I want to read you a small quote from the Battle of
[22:20]Siffin in the Battle of Siffin there was someone by the name
[22:26]of Jeddah Jeddah binho Beira and he was challenged to a duel
[22:31]with us bah what are we as brother now what bah came
[22:34]out taunting him yes this is the second civil war by the
[22:40]way in the history of Islam so Imam Ali had to face
[22:42]all of this opposition not just verbal opposition and not just political
[22:47]maneuvering but he had to face civil wars and this was the
[22:54]second one now in this situation what did octopus a to Jeddah
[22:58]he said you're out here because you just merely love your maternal
[23:06]uncle Ali he's trying to belittle the purpose for why this man
[23:09]is standing by Imam Ali but that comes back with a reply
[23:14]he says as for my love for my maternal uncle if you
[23:16]had one like him you would forget your father Abu Sufyan as
[23:23]for the superior excellence of Ali / malaria no two men would
[23:28]disagree about that no two men would disagree about that as for
[23:31]your statement that there is not a man in Syria more serious
[23:36]in warfare and no man in Iraq equal in seriousness to agee
[23:39]this is how it should be he reminds him for Ali is
[23:46]moved by his certitude while more Allah is held back by his
[23:51]doubting yes and the resolution of the people of truth is better
[23:56]than the endeavor of the people of falsehood and as for your
[23:59]assertion you are more obedient to mahalia than we are - Ali
[24:06]by God we do not ask him when he keeps silent nor
[24:11]do we contradict him when he speaks so this loyal servant of
[24:14]Imam Ali sets the record straight and you want me to stop
[24:20]talking about Imam Ali foods more important than Imam Ali sorry Allah
[24:23]Muhammad Ali Mohammed masha'Allah there is nothing more important tonight than this
[24:39]remembrance there's nothing more important despite how delicious and fantastic it is
[24:47]and despite the fact that our servers are eager to serve you
[24:51]I have to tell you just a bit more about Imam Ali
[24:54]Ali Salaam Sally allah muhammad wa ali muhammad now keep in mind
[25:04]that once this was stated whatever comes out and he attacks again
[25:07]verbally but actually when the battle came to pass he was the
[25:14]one to flee he didn't actually confront Jeddah and his men he
[25:19]left the battlefield now I want to tell you about three groups
[25:25]and when I finished this I want you to think about where
[25:28]you belong in terms of your love even mama Ali Ali Salaam
[25:33]there are three groups that opposed him the naca phone posse tune
[25:37]and marathon who are these there were those who are the breakers
[25:41]of allegiance and these were the people of the Battle of Jamal
[25:46]Nanaki thorne there were those who were political players liars dealers deception
[25:50]misinformation eager for sedition they wanted to use force and intimidation they
[25:56]were cunning they used threats these were the FASTA to those who
[26:00]deviate and they were those in the Battle of Siffin they were
[26:06]like mahalia and his followers then there are those who were fanatics
[26:12]they were dangerously ignorant overtly pious sanctimonious holier-than-thou these are the mario
[26:19]phone these are those who missed the truth of the religion and
[26:22]these were the people from the battle of not rwan god forbid
[26:27]we fall in any of these categories god forbid we are those
[26:30]who break our Allegiance god forbid we are those who deviate god
[26:35]forbid we are those who missed the point of this religion so
[26:38]tonight as I end my topic I want you into your in
[26:44]your mind's eye to imagine yourself there and take a moment and
[26:48]let's become quiet brothers and sisters for just a moment and if
[26:54]you feel it if you feel so moved close your eyes and
[26:57]imagine yourself brothers and sisters quietly imagining yourself there as a dear
[27:03]home with the Sun beating down on your back you have just
[27:08]seen the Prophet raise the hand of Ali and now it is
[27:11]time for you to come forward and congratulate him and make your
[27:16]baya imagine doing that right now take them all my brothers and
[27:19]sisters - close your eyes and see yourself making that commitment right
[27:25]now right here today bend your knee take his hand and be
[27:33]truthful to him about who you really are and whether you are
[27:39]dignified enough to live up to this commitment of taking him in
[27:43]meymaneh Islam as your leader Sani allah muhammad wa ala muhammad [Applause]
