[1:28]Al alhamdulillah [Music] alhamd ald IM display of Faith was the most

[3:11]perfect display of faith in the history of the religion of Islam

[3:15]especially on the day of indeed you find that in that battel

[3:20]the battel of kand IM Ali showed what it meant to be

[3:28]a person of both Islam as well as Iman if a person

[3:30]wanted to look for submission one could only look at the display

[3:35]and the actions of IM Ali in that particular battle as we

[3:40]know each and every Muslim in the world today knows about the

[3:43]Battle of kandak has studied the Battle of kandak has learned about

[3:47]the Battle of kandak part and parcel is that we normally study

[3:51]all the battles of the history of the religion of Islam in

[3:54]our lives but you find that this particular battle if a person

[3:58]wanted to see the meaning of Islam IM and then a person

[4:07]would look no further than IM Ali unfortunately you find that there

[4:12]are many who may have heard of the battle of but do

[4:17]not know much about the role or the words or the actions

[4:24]of IM on that day the reality is that this particular battle

[4:27]took place in a very sensitive time this battle on the first

[4:31]level was able to differentiate for us the difference between someone who

[4:39]was just a Muslim and someone who was a m around s

[4:41]alai at the time there were many who were Muslims meaning what

[4:45]meaning there were many who believed in and Muhammad through uttering it

[4:54]they had uttered the words of the K and therefore were counted

[4:59]amongst the Muslims living in Medina at the time but there was

[5:03]a difference between someone who was a Muslim and someone who was

[5:08]a mmin a person who was a Muslim is someone who may

[5:11]have just uttered for the sake of conversion whereas a mmin was

[5:15]someone who wholeheartedly believed in everything that the religion of Islam had

[5:20]taught even today in our lives we find that if a person

[5:24]converts to the religion of Islam they are counted as being a

[5:27]Muslim but for them to be a M they are someone who

[5:33]embodies the principles of the religion of Islam follows that which is

[5:39]obligatory stays away from that which is forbidden Medina at that time

[5:43]when the Battle of kandak took place it was the fifth year

[5:48]after Hijra Medina was full of Hypocrites therefore it was a sensitive

[5:52]time for the religion of Islam because you don't know whose Iman

[5:56]was built on tawa and you don't know who was just uttering

[6:02]the words in the face of but without knowing their sincerity as

[6:07]in without a doubt the most dangerous of those around us all

[6:12]the time are the Hypocrites because the hypocrite will pray alongside you

[6:17]the hypocrite will smile in your face the hypocrite will come to

[6:22]and he'll say to the prophet he'll say to him clearly when

[6:27]he sees him that I believe that you are without a doubt

[6:29]the prophet of Allah subhah wa ta'ala but behind his back the

[6:34]hypocrite is plotting who's the hypocrite plotting with now the hypocrite in

[6:40]Medina is plotting with the Jews of Medina because the Jews of

[6:44]Medina tribes such as benu and these have seen that their position

[6:50]is no longer as lofty as it used to be whether economically

[6:55]they're not as strong as they used to be they prowess in

[6:59]terms of always being able to look at the people of the

[7:02]and the and say that we're better than you and we are

[7:07]people who have carried a book from a previous prophet of God

[7:12]now even that stature of the Jews was not the same so

[7:14]what do we have now we have the Arabs on the one

[7:20]side the Hypocrites we have the Jews of Medina such as benu

[7:23]and benu who had made a pledge with Al that they'll be

[7:30]loyal to but now they were ready to stab him in the

[7:33]back and we also have at the same time of course the

[7:37]qu who want to get to Medina and Destroy they had tried

[7:44]at Med they had tried at but it had not worked therefore

[7:47]on the first level this was a sensitive period on the second

[7:52]level there are many lessons that can be learned in relation to

[7:57]Iman amongst the companions ofas s alai because in these sensitive times

[8:02]you realize who's loyal to you and you realize who's not loyal

[8:09]to you when you look within this Surah of the Quran you'll

[8:12]see that inah of course one of the other names for the

[8:17]Battle of is the Battle of the Surah 33 of the Quran

[8:23]highlights to us how difficult it was for a person in that

[8:26]particular period to hold on to their Iman and that's why for

[8:31]us when we examine the Surah we see the difference between the

[8:35]shaky IM of those around and the complete of IM further than

[8:46]that we may also recognize the importance of having that strong Iman

[8:51]in the face of difficult circumstances because today when my IM is

[8:56]shaken today when my Iman reaches a level where I begin to

[9:03]even doubt my belief system even doubt some of my principles even

[9:08]question God's existence it can happen our Iman could be shaken at

[9:12]any moment that's exactly what happened surrounding this war that in the

[9:18]same way the early Muslims their Iman was clearly tested likewise that

[9:22]applies to us today therefore let us tonight examine the unbelievable Iman

[9:29]and the display of belief as well as bravery and sacrifice of

[9:35]IM in the battle ofand and see exactly what the context was

[9:42]when you come to examining the Battle of kand as we said

[9:45]the battel ofand has two names one name is the other name

[9:53]isab someone says why the two names the name aab refers to

[9:59]the Confederates all the different groups that had come together where they

[10:05]wanted to get hold of Medina and destroy the religion of Islam

[10:09]these were who these were theab of the Jews theab of the

[10:13]Arabs of the qu all of them had got together now the

[10:19]Jews had contacted Abu sufyan and they had said to him that

[10:22]listen bring as many soldiers as you want even us people who

[10:29]are living here in Medina are sick of Muhammad Sall alai even

[10:32]we want him out Bring as many of your soldiers as you

[10:37]want and we will be there for you Abu sufyan we'll be

[10:43]there alongside you Abu sufyan after bad after he had been waiting

[10:47]and waiting to get revenge he had alongside him some of the

[10:50]most ferocious Warriors you'll ever see alongside him you had you had

[10:59]you had all of these were known as Warriors and known for

[11:05]their hatred of the religion of Islam so all of these in

[11:11]one way or the other had prepared themselves that they were going

[11:14]to launch an attack normally the qu when they want to launch

[11:16]an attack on Medina normally the qur were not getting the help

[11:22]that they wanted from people in Medina this time those in Medina

[11:26]who were also disguised as Muslims were telling the Jews that we

[11:29]will join you tell the qur to enter Medina and we will

[11:37]make sure that everything is protected the news reached when the news

[11:42]reached the holy prophet peace be upon him and his family the

[11:45]holy prophet turned around to his companions remember there were thousands of

[11:48]companions at this stage the religion was no longer a young religion

[11:53]there were thousands of companions who were there present in Medina Al

[11:58]made it clear to them he said that listen we have a

[12:04]number of that are fighting us now a number of groups and

[12:07]the past the groups were who in the past it was the

[12:12]qur alone now we have people around me who I cannot trust

[12:18]I don't know which ones of them are true M and which

[12:20]ones of them are liars I don't know which ones of them

[12:25]are the ones who are stabbing Us in the back the news

[12:27]that I have is that among us those who are saying they

[12:31]are Muslims are actually the biggest Hypocrites hence Surah 63 of the

[12:37]Quran as you all know was revealed because there were Hypocrites surrounding

[12:42]in Medina so said that there are these have now all come

[12:52]together and these want to destroy us should we go out of

[12:55]Medina and be ready to defend ourselves or should we stay in

[12:59]Medina and defend ourselves a number of them became hesitant why because

[13:09]imagine an army of 10,000 that is coming from Mecca in the

[13:12]past the Battle of for example there were 4,000 in the Battle

[13:16]of bad there were how many 950 give and take here and

[13:25]there now with the Battle of kandak you had 10,000 who were

[13:28]coming from the qur being joined by leadership of the Jews and

[13:36]the MAF who are surrounding therefore Allah asked them amongst the people

[13:42]who said having heard the companion saying let's stay in Medina Salman

[13:46]Al Farsi Salman Al Farsi just said that the Persians in the

[13:53]past they are the ones who used to defend themselves by building

[13:56]a building aak means what one of the names as we said

[14:04]is is this trench that you build outside of the city of

[14:07]Medina or let's say within the borders of the city of Medina

[14:12]that will not allow the soldiers of the opposition to enter easily

[14:15]that by the way was not something that took half a day

[14:21]for them to dig up no this trench if you're going to

[14:24]imagine Medina how big is Medina imagine Medina that surrounds the whole

[14:29]of Medina therefore they were digging digging was helping them in the

[14:37]digging some of them were finding extremely difficult already from the companions

[14:41]of because you've got to dig all of this it's a period

[14:47]where some people are facing the cold of Medina and those of

[14:50]you been to Medina know that Medina can get very cold remember

[14:57]this battle took place in sha towards the therefore Medina was freezing

[15:01]at the time but these companions have come together and they've dug

[15:06]a outside when they've dug this outside they still knew that you

[15:11]know what the imposing Army of 10,000 are now approaching Medina could

[15:20]see that some of them were now uncertain of what was happening

[15:26]Al had of course said to them all he said listen I

[15:31]promise you that there's going to be a day where we're going

[15:33]to conquer Rome and we're going to conquer Persia one of the

[15:39]Hypocrites who was alongside him he turned around and he says that

[15:43]we can just about go to for the call of nature because

[15:47]of the difficulty of these knights with this trench that we've built

[15:52]and the Army that's about to attack us and this man believes

[15:55]what he believes that one day we're going to conquer Rome and

[16:02]Persia slowly the mutterings of those who doubted Allah subhah wa ta'ala

[16:08]and doubted Islam and doubted s alaih were beginning to emerge someone

[16:12]says but these are the sahab of Muhammad Sall alaihi they'll have

[16:16]the strongest Iman when you look in the Quran in Surah 33

[16:19]of the Quran you'll see the description of what was happening to

[16:28]the companions of if you just read from verse 10 onwards why

[16:32]Allah subhana wa taala makes it clear that that battle of was

[16:39]a test for the Believers if you look in Surah 33 verse

[16:43]number 11 it was over there in that battle that the M

[16:58]were tested and they were shaken a thorough shaking why because now

[17:04]all of a sudden you know that there is a huge Army

[17:07]coming this is going to be the biggest test of who has

[17:13]IM in Allah who has IM in and whose Iman is flaky

[17:20]sometimes in life this happens that you go through a period where

[17:24]truly Allah tests us to see do we have in Allah whatever

[17:30]our comes in our way sometimes the Army may be haters sometimes

[17:34]the community sometimes members of your own family know that in the

[17:38]Quran Allah tested the IM of those alongside when he said the

[17:55]were tested are you ready to face whoever of the command comes

[18:00]in your way if comes to you one-on-one are you ready to

[18:05]stand up to him remember some of these had still been shaky

[18:08]from the Battle of at the Battle of some of them were

[18:13]known to have run away so it's not like they were ready

[18:15]necessarily to come out here then there were others the moment they

[18:22]saw the army of Abu sufyan with coming towards them there were

[18:26]others the Quran describes what they went through in an unbelievable way

[18:34]what does the Quran say if you look inah 33 verse number

[18:42]10 Quran says what that their eyes begin to Thrift one way

[18:47]and the other and what happened to them as well what also

[18:50]happened to them was their hearts began to come up to their

[18:57]throat you know that moment when you scared of something your heart

[19:03]you feel like literally has come up to your throat because of

[19:05]how much fear you have the Quran was saying that the companions

[19:08]of Muhammad s this is what was happening to them in the

[19:13]lead up to number one their eyes were going one way and

[19:19]the other because now you're thinking this is the end of the

[19:24]religion of Islam how are we going to fight of 10,000 this

[19:28]trench will will only last so long number two the hearts begun

[19:38]to reach where begun to reach your your throat area do how

[19:42]much fear does that show but do you know the worst thing

[19:45]that was happening to them the worst thing that can happen to

[19:48]you when your Iman is being tested in any situation is when

[19:54]you begin to have suspicions about Allah subhah wa ta'ala you begun

[20:06]to suspect Allah subhah a person if they are complete Iman the

[20:12]Quran would not say that they had in Allah's plan a person

[20:19]who has full Iman whatever Allah has planned for me I'm ready

[20:23]for if there are moments of trials in my life alhamdulillah you

[20:28]are the greatest of planers if there are moments of difficulty in

[20:33]my life alhamdulillah if there are moments of tribulation alhamdulillah never ever

[20:38]will I doubt you oh Allah as IM Ali would always say

[20:44]don't say Ya Allah don't test me for you will be tested

[20:47]rather say yaah Allah do not test me with that which shakes

[20:52]my faith in you therefore you found that the Quran how did

[20:56]it describe them the Quran showed the the most Vivid image of

[21:01]the soldiers of greater than any Hadith why because in the world

[21:08]of Hadith how do people write a Hadith the people write these

[21:10]stories of these wars depending on who they love they'll show them

[21:16]in a light that looks after their framework many times in the

[21:21]world of Hadith people do not write exactly what happens but the

[21:26]Quran shows that those around their Iman was so shaky to the

[21:32]extent what did the Quran say that the Hypocrites and those in

[21:37]whose Hearts there is a disease they beg to say that what

[21:45]Allah and his Prophet has promised us is what it's just delusion

[21:48]all this time we've been listening to Muhammad s alai it turned

[21:52]out that everything that he's been saying to us is going to

[21:55]turn out to be delusion these guys are going to kill us

[21:57]these guys are going to finish us imagine in the Quran that

[22:05]Allah is describing the lack of IM of everybody alongside barring a

[22:11]few people always try and portray that the sah in every battle

[22:17]they were the most loyal to but I don't see the Loyalty

[22:23]I see in people running away here I see that people are

[22:26]so scared they've begun to make a assumptions about Allah and suspicions

[22:32]they began to call what is delusional and then from them said

[22:43]some of them started saying oh people of Y as you all

[22:48]know yth is what is another name for the people of Medina

[22:50]let's go back some of them said you know what I need

[22:55]to go uh to my family's house I really can't be here

[22:58]Al and the Quran mentions they began to return and flee back

[23:04]towards their houses to the extent even s alai there were nights

[23:10]where he would say to his companions he would say to them

[23:12]what he would say listen some of you if you can I

[23:15]need you to try and go under the trench and maybe see

[23:22]what's happening over there no answer no reply whatsoever is there none

[23:25]of you can no one hear me my companions I need some

[23:30]of you to go and just see what's going on in the

[23:33]opposition I need to make sure that our tactics are spot on

[23:38]to the extent that he said to are you in the meaning

[23:45]have you died I'm trying to call you I'm Your Leader I'm

[23:48]the prophet of Allah subhana wa taala if you see me confident

[23:54]in Allah and trusting Allah surely you will have that same Trust

[23:58]of Allah you know Allah began to see around him people who

[24:04]were in the public Muslim but privately there was no Iman either

[24:08]they were people who began to have doubts about even believing in

[24:12]Allah or doubts about the words of and you imagine you know

[24:21]the opposition they can smell blood can't they when the opposition began

[24:27]to see some of the companions of alaih some of them fleeing

[24:32]some of them returning home these glorious companions that we told are

[24:37]the bravest let's come and see slowly who the bravest is some

[24:40]of them return back home others of them returned to their families

[24:46]others of them said we're not feeling well it's too cold excuse

[24:50]after excuse after excuse where they were making these excuses why so

[24:56]that they would return back home towards their amilies and not die

[25:01]and not save the life of Islam had never been in a

[25:10]more precarious position than the battle of kandak the battle of kandak

[25:14]was the most difficult moment my dear brothers and sisters when it

[25:19]came to the Muslim Community why because they had been so shaken

[25:22]by the Numbers what took place one of the commanders of the

[25:27]opposition I and someone who Arabia feared he was known as one

[25:34]of the top three soldiers of Arabia that if people mentioned who

[25:38]are the greatest soldiers in Arabian circles people would mention as being

[25:44]one of the three fought against the Muslims in the Battle of

[25:49]bad but he was not present because of the injuries in the

[25:54]Battle of bad he was not present at the Battle of therefore

[25:59]he was jumping at the bit he could not wait to get

[26:05]revenge for the Battle of bad at bad he had too many

[26:08]scars on his body that meant that these scars did not heal

[26:14]and he did not recover in time for the Battle of he

[26:19]couldn't wait because in particular he wanted revenge against managed to get

[26:28]through the and the worst fears of the majority of the companions

[26:34]of were being realized that prophet of God who said to us

[26:41]we'll conquer Rome and Persia we're about to get demolished where's his

[26:44]God where's his delusional statements our hearts have come up to our

[26:50]throats our eyes cannot even focus we are freezing we're starving this

[26:57]required at this moment a man whose Iman is the most complete

[27:04]Iman a man who In This Moment nothing gets in his way

[27:12]there are no stumbling blocks for him if it's cold he is

[27:18]always hot and ready if there is people starving his soul is

[27:22]so strong that he doesn't feel the effects of the body a

[27:25]man who's always ready to sacrifice himself for the religion of Islam

[27:33]and who never in his life disbelieved in a single thing or

[27:36]question a single thing that came with came and he said called

[27:44]out to all of the companions all of them were there one

[27:46]by one you want to name me companions all of the companions

[27:52]that are promised Jenna you always hear these lists of companions promis

[27:57]Jenna Abu Bakr was he at yes was yes was yes yes

[28:07]yes yes yes all of these are there at yes Salman had

[28:15]given the advice for the itself came out and he called out

[28:24]Helman mu is there anyone to come out and face me where

[28:26]are all of you I'm here I've recovered from the day of

[29:12]it was so difficult for him because he could see that IM

[29:14]aliam was ready to come out but alai said to him sit

[29:22]and wait why some said because emotionally he's attached to IM aliam

[29:27]others say no wanted to show who truly is everyone after Allah

[29:40]got the title The Prince of the Believers but you want to

[29:46]see the prince of all of the M it's a man where

[29:50]his heart doesn't come up to his throat his eyes remain focused

[29:54]he'll destroy you just with a piercing look his spirituality is on

[29:59]a different level his wisdom is higher than all those around him

[30:02]for he was trained by said to him sit this is a

[30:10]chance by the way for Abu Bakr to get up Abu Bakr

[30:14]could easily get up now and say that I want to fight

[30:20]nothing it's a chance for to get up and say that I

[30:25]let me at him zero it's a chance for nothing nothing ABD

[30:34]nothing nothing not a word from any of the companions of to

[30:45]became frustrated like what's wrong with you guys Muhammad promises you a

[30:53]j and he says that if you kill me you go to

[30:54]heaven and that if I kill you you'll die as a Shah

[30:58]one of you IM Ali said let me at him let me

[31:06]again said to him stay down again he said to him where

[31:17]are they Muhammad's companions who all claim that they believe in God

[31:21]and they believe in Muhammad where are they where is your Iman

[31:24]or are you shivering and some of you want to return and

[31:29]some of you have your suspicions now about Allah and about the

[31:34]prophet again IM came forward he said yah Allah let me at

[31:41]him imali when he said that Allah said very well but come

[31:44]near me why because there has to be an initiation where I

[31:49]give you what do I give you first he gave him his

[31:56]turban and then he gave him his robe and then according to

[31:59]the narrations some say that he handed him on that moment others

[32:03]say what others say that it may have been given before but

[32:09]Al pray to Allah subhana waala Ya Allah protect him Ya Allah

[32:14]look after him Ya Allah do not leave us alone for this

[32:21]young man at the age of 27 is about to go out

[32:25]towards the battlefield when was doing all this what was he showing

[32:30]he was showing everybody that never should there be a day where

[32:37]any of you think your IM equals Al's in Allah subhana wa

[32:44]tala once spoke to this narrates he said to him some of

[32:54]us in bastra cannot understand how people like you praise alali so

[32:59]much and you give him so many virtues looked at him he

[33:05]said listen if you were to count all of the virtues of

[33:08]IM in one hand you put them all in one side and

[33:14]you put all of the virtues of the companions on the other

[33:20]im's virtues would outweigh them he said enough it was on the

[33:27]day of that Abu Bakr Omar not even me went out but

[33:30]it was only him when was striking a sword into the religion

[33:36]of Islam by saying none of you can fight me why do

[33:39]you think that what he was saying was piercing because the Muslims

[33:43]lost their confidence because of his arrogance towards the religion Islam's confidence

[33:49]had been at an alltime low the moment IM Ali stepped out

[33:58]called out the whole of IM has stepped out against the whole

[34:13]of polytheism IM the whole of IM is represented in IM and

[34:21]that's why he is the prince of the Believers because Al the

[34:28]moment IM Ali came out he made clear the whole of the

[34:37]T seed the embodiment of Iman on that night was who on

[34:45]that day was IM Al IM looked towards had blatantly been taken

[34:53]the mick out of Islam nonstop where are you guys you claim

[34:55]to believe you CL claim to believe and he called out to

[35:26]him imagine these lines of poetry if you could get them tattooed

[35:35]in your heart I mean not literally these lines of poetry are

[35:39]amongst the greatest lines that anyone ever said to give is to

[35:43]the religion of Islam these lines what's IM saying to him don't

[35:51]be someone who's Hasty for the person coming out towards you is

[35:59]a person who hears your voice and is about to come without

[36:06]any fear whatsoever a person of the purest intention and insight and

[36:12]truthful which will give him Victory with one strike a piercing strike

[36:21]which will be remembered wherever there are people wherever they go they'll

[36:31]remember the strike that's about to come to you all of a

[36:35]sudden from being the most arrogant peacock all of a sudden looked

[36:39]at him he said who are you what's your name he said

[36:43]Ali he said to him Ali he said no Ali son of

[36:50]Abu Talib he looked at him he said Ali son of Abu

[36:52]Talib he said yes he said Abu Talib your father I will

[36:57]not fight you because your father was my sadik and he was

[37:03]my Nadim what's the difference sadik my friend NAD my acquaintance as

[37:08]well therefore I will not fight you IM looked at me and

[37:10]said but I will kill you because you're an enemy of Allah

[37:14]subh you try and destroy the reputation of my prophet and the

[37:22]religion of Islam While I'm Alive there is no chance that will

[37:24]happen the rest of them yes the rest of them are quaking

[37:29]in their boots the rest of them you've put fear in them

[37:30]no doubt the rest of them can't wait to go home some

[37:34]of them have even doubted their religion and doubted Allah but never

[37:38]with me I ask you is it true that whenever anyone suggests

[37:45]three things to you you will always accept one he said it's

[37:50]true he said to him very well then I ask you the

[37:55]first thing is to believe in one God and that Muhammad sallallahu

[38:00]alai is the final messenger of God he said to him that

[38:03]I will not do second he said to him second leave The

[38:09]Battle Before I finish you it's better for you he said to

[38:11]him I'm not going to have the reputation of someone who ran

[38:17]away from the battlefield he said okay very well he said the

[38:21]third thing fight me oneon-one he said to him that I will

[38:25]Doo the moment he said that he had said to him come

[38:27]off your horse and come down and fight me oneon-one came down

[38:32]the first strike was directly on the top of Imam Ali's head

[38:38]the people who are watching of course all of them are in

[38:43]a state of fear and they're wondering what's happened and you can

[38:47]imagine the dust ensues the sand everywhere no one can tell what's

[38:50]going on what's Happening is Ali alive is Ali dead until they

[38:57]saw IM alali emerge and then he came back in and then

[39:01]he emerged again and then he came back in and then he

[39:05]shouted allahar the moment he shouted Allah IM at that moment everybody

[39:16]in the army of those who were believers they breathed and they

[39:23]were proud of that man those who were mafs even they in

[39:28]some cases could not believe how is it that this man his

[39:34]one strike has finished arguably the Greatest Warrior in Arabia at the

[39:42]time when im returned people began to ask him amongst them alai

[39:48]was there the companions were there at that moment someone came and

[39:53]said what happened exactly he said that when he came off his

[39:56]horse to strike me he struck me straight on the top of

[40:01]my head I was injured but I continued fighting I had reached
