[0:14]foreign muslims who live in the west who migrated from the middle
[1:40]east from their home countries and came to the west they came
[1:43]to america to europe to australia to new to new zealand and
[1:51]have been living in the west for years we can put them
[1:55]into three different categories three different kinds the first kind are the
[2:02]muslims who completely assimilated they forgot about their faith they forgot about
[2:09]their religion and they became completely western their their life is westernized
[2:15]in the complete sense of meaning whether it's positive or negative complete
[2:22]sort of assimilation so there's no going back home and whatever came
[2:28]from home stayed at home faith religion school of thought culture language
[2:35]even names were changed last names were changed clothing was changed a
[2:44]complete change in culture this group saw that there's a clash in
[2:52]cultures there's a clash in uh civilizations so to speak and that
[2:58]you could either become an american or european dutch english australian or
[3:04]you remain a muslim and they chose to be the the first
[3:08]because they saw that islam being a muslim being a practicing muslim
[3:14]is incompatible with being american as incompatible with being european so they
[3:21]chose to be european they chose to be american this is the
[3:26]first group the second group they moved here and they also saw
[3:30]a clash of culture a clash of civilizations they could either become
[3:35]american or european or australia or they remain true to their faith
[3:43]true to their religion they remain muslim so they chose the second
[3:47]rather than the first they saw that to be a muslim to
[3:54]be a true muslim you cannot integrate in american society or in
[4:01]european society you cannot live an american life or a western life
[4:07]or a european life you have to practice your faith and there's
[4:10]not much you could do you have to disconnect from society you
[4:14]have to disconnect from your surroundings your neighbors uh your friends the
[4:21]society that you live in and a lot of people from category
[4:25]number two end up going back home because they feel there's a
[4:30]a clash they can't work out the two they can't be both
[4:35]american and muslim and they can't be good in both you can
[4:39]either be a good muslim or a good american a good muslim
[4:43]or a good european you can enjoy being the two so a
[4:46]lot of them they either live a life of contradiction and a
[4:51]life of torment a sense of guilt of being a good muslim
[4:56]but living in the west or they end up they pack their
[4:59]banks and they go back home they go back to lebanon to
[5:03]iran to pakistan to their countries and then you have a third
[5:09]group a middle group a group that sees that there is absolutely
[5:14]no contradiction between being a good muslim and a good american or
[5:19]being a good muslim and a good european living a life of
[5:26]islam and living a western life is completely compatible it could be
[5:29]a good muslim you could abide by islamic rules and laws and
[5:35]at the same time live the american dream live a happy life
[5:41]a life of assimilation in in the west but without forgetting your
[5:47]faith and without forgetting your religion you might ask that does group
[5:53]number three exist do they really exist absolutely they exist and we
[5:58]know many of them it's very much possible to live a successful
[6:06]muslim life in the west without giving up your faith and religion
[6:14]nor having to feel embarrassed and ashamed of living your normal life
[6:17]in the west in america or in europe or other parts of
[6:24]the western world is this possible absolutely and today tonight on this
[6:30]very important night we will discuss the steps and how to live
[6:35]a successful muslim life in the west to be a good muslim
[6:41]in the west to gain the best of both worlds to win
[6:46]dunya and is this possible it's very much possible and today or
[6:51]tonight we will discuss this inshallah step number one to living a
[7:00]successful muslim life in the west seek a good education to seek
[7:05]a good education is the muslim thing to do and it's the
[7:09]western thing to do first of all there is no religion like
[7:14]the religion of islam that pushes its adherents and followers to seek
[7:20]knowledge more than islam you don't find this in judaism you don't
[7:24]find this in christianity the emphasis the amount of emphasis put on
[7:31]seeking knowledge gaining knowledge to seek an education the quran is full
[7:41]of verses that push us to gain knowledge raises the status of
[7:51]those who believe and those who have knowledge have attained knowledge or
[7:57]those who seek knowledge those who have been given knowledge or gain
[8:03]knowledge allah raises their status to those who know are equal to
[8:11]those who don't know those who are educated those who have knowledge
[8:15]are they equal to those who don't know and do not have
[8:19]an education there's a hadith recorded by both schools of thought the
[8:23]sunni school of thought and the shri school of thought it's a
[8:27]it's a numerous report we call it in arabic s knowledge is
[8:44]an obligation upon every muslim and in some narrations it's an obligation
[8:53]upon every muslim man and every muslim woman to seek knowledge the
[9:00]famous hadith seek knowledge from cradle to grave it's an ongoing process
[9:09]there should never be a time when we stop seeking knowledge or
[9:13]we've reached a position in which we're you know we've sufficed we
[9:18]we have enough knowledge no seek knowledge another hadith says even if
[9:27]it's in china travel to seek knowledge even if you feel lonely
[9:32]even if you have to live in a country by yourself even
[9:34]if you have to leave to leave your hometown and to leave
[9:39]family and to live in poverty islam says go and seek knowledge
[9:41]there's no other religion that emphasizes on seeking knowledge like islam and
[9:48]so too in the west you're given the opportunity to seek knowledge
[9:54]and to get an education in the west there's a value to
[10:01]knowledge there's a value to education that's why there's an abundance of
[10:04]universities there's abundance of colleges in the west we have the best
[10:09]universities and we have the best colleges our youth living in the
[10:16]west muslim youth in the west should aim to get entrance to
[10:22]the best of the universities to the ivy leagues starting from harvard
[10:27]to stanford to yale to berkeley to princeton to the best of
[10:33]the universities it's uh the doors are open there's an opportunity and
[10:39]there's no discrimination but we we live at a time where college
[10:44]entrance to some degree of course there are there is a discrimination
[10:49]again against some groups unfortunately like african americans and blacks but for
[10:56]others there might not be discrimination there's an opportunity for you to
[11:01]apply and to get accepted at these ivy leagues apply aim high
[11:06]let us teach our youth to aim high when it comes to
[11:11]education don't settle for a university close by to your home because
[11:15]you don't want to leave you don't want to leave your family
[11:20]no on the contrary aim high aim to get into the best
[11:23]universities in the country it's possible others have done it and so
[11:27]can you we should push our children and encourage them and once
[11:31]they're into that university we should push them to get a higher
[11:37]education what do i mean by this i mean that a bachelor's
[11:38]degree is not enough let's push our youth to get a master's
[11:43]degree to get a phd this is a cornerstone into living a
[11:47]successful life in the west that you equip equip yourself with the
[11:54]right amount of knowledge with the right amount of education you can't
[11:58]live a successful life in the west without a proper education you
[12:02]can otherwise you'll end up on the welfare system you'll end up
[12:07]getting money from the government or having to go back home or
[12:12]having to get loans get a proper education you can get the
[12:17]best education in in the west let us be in the habit
[12:26]as parents to teach our children the culture of aiming high to
[12:30]go to the best universities let's push them there's i know some
[12:34]parents that don't want to send their kids off to school abroad
[12:38]to other states because they want to monitor them control them yes
[12:43]i i understand where you're coming from but at the same time
[12:45]if you instill in your children the sense of responsibility when they're
[12:50]young when the when they're in their when they're in high school
[12:54]when they go off to college they're already responsible they will know
[12:59]what is right what is wrong and they will they will learn
[13:02]on their own sometimes a person learns on his own or on
[13:08]her own let them be responsible let them travel let them live
[13:11]you know on their own to gain experience and they will learn
[13:15]what to do what is right and what is wrong but let
[13:17]them get an education it all starts off with a proper education
[13:22]you cannot and i cannot emphasize on this enough you cannot live
[13:27]a successful life in the west without having a proper education and
[13:32]our communities we should have scholarships for the bright students for the
[13:41]bright kids in our communities we send them off to harvard to
[13:46]yale to to berkeley to stanford and we provide them with scholarships
[13:49]we could do this at every islamic center and every hersenia in
[13:54]the west we put a budget for the brightest of our students
[13:57]and we encourage them to go to the best universities and those
[14:00]who get accepted we pay for them we provide them with with
[14:07]scholarships our communities alhamdulillah in the west they're well off they're well
[14:12]to do we could do this when we encourage our kids other
[14:15]kids will be encouraged and other communities will be encouraged and before
[14:19]you know it we'll have hundreds of our children in ivy league
[14:24]universities receiving the best of education and when you have the best
[14:29]of the best education you'll have the best of jobs and you'll
[14:32]get the best positions you have to think of it this way
[14:36]this is number one this is the first step step number two
[14:40]now that you're off to college and you you've left home and
[14:45]you don't have your parents to monitor you you could go out
[14:49]you could stay up as much as you want you could go
[14:52]wherever you want you could befriend whoever you want here is when
[14:57]you start monitoring yourself here your parents will pass on the torch
[15:02]to you your parents at 18.
[15:06]they've done a wonderful job in raising you islamically they've raised you
[15:10]in the best of manners now they pass on the torch to
[15:15]you now they tell you you have to take care of yourself
[15:17]not just financially not just educationally but you have to take care
[15:23]of yourself spiritually and religiously you monitor yourself you be your own
[15:26]guide you be your own mother and father because when you leave
[15:33]the house and you move out of state and you go to
[15:37]a uh another state or city to study there'll be a lot
[15:41]of temptations now you have freedom now you're all on your own
[15:45]no one can see you no one can judge you no one
[15:49]can hold you accountable other than allah you have to be careful
[15:52]where you go where are you invited who you befriend how do
[15:55]you spend your time these years should be years for you you
[15:59]don't waste them in anything other than seeking knowledge and seeking a
[16:06]proper education yes you need to relax once in a while you
[16:10]come back home to see your parents to see your family members
[16:12]and your siblings but don't be distracted college years are the years
[16:16]of distraction you're out of you're away from home and there's lots
[16:23]of temptations you have to be careful that these temptations don't take
[16:27]you away don't deviate you from your goal and that if your
[16:32]parents are not watching allah is still watching allah didn't go anywhere
[16:36]the same allah that was watching you back home he's still watching
[16:42]you at university at college you monitor yourself you be your own
[16:46]judge and you avoid temptations is this possible absolutely it's possible if
[16:52]we have if we feel the sense of responsibility and that we
[16:58]know that allah is monitoring us and he's watching us because when
[17:02]you go there'll be a world of temptations you'll see lots of
[17:08]opportunities all kinds of opportunities you have to be very careful that
[17:12]you don't get distracted from allah that shaytan does not distract you
[17:17]and you don't forget your goal your goal is there to seek
[17:24]knowledge and then come back home step number three in the west
[17:29]to live a successful life you have to be a hard worker
[17:33]you can't stay up all night and sleep in all day and
[17:38]not work and expect others to provide for you and to provide
[17:44]your sustenance that's impossible any person that wants to live a successful
[17:49]life in the west has to work has to produce has to
[17:53]achieve has to be a hard worker has to work has to
[17:57]have a job from eight to five from eight to six i
[18:02]don't know what hours it is unfortunately we have many muslims that
[18:06]migrate from the east they come to the west and they rely
[18:10]on the government that they live in they want welfare they want
[18:15]income support they want financial support they want medical benefits some of
[18:20]them go to great lengths they even break the law or claim
[18:26]disability just to get a couple of dollars or money for rent
[18:34]such people will never live a successful life in the west if
[18:37]your intention is to live in the west and benefit financially from
[18:42]the government receive an income receive a check every month and financial
[18:47]benefits and not work you will not have a successful life in
[18:51]the west if you want to live in the west you have
[18:55]to be a hard worker you have to train yourself put put
[18:58]it in your mind that you work you achieve you get a
[19:03]job you produce you make money and this is what islam encourages
[19:07]us this does not conflict with islam absolutely not islam encourages us
[19:14]to work to produce to be financially capable and financially independent the
[19:23]hadith says he who goes out and works and makes money and
[19:29]brings money back home to his family it's as if he's fighting
[19:32]for the sake of allah it's as if he's in the battlefield
[19:35]protecting islam and protecting your country and protecting your land one day
[19:45]he came in the masjid he came in his mosque and he
[19:50]saw two brothers he saw one who would sit in the mosque
[19:53]all day and fast he was fasting and he'd pray all day
[19:58]and recite quran but at the time of his brother who wasn't
[20:02]in the mosque who would go out and work all day he'd
[20:05]bring food and put in front of his brother so one was
[20:09]a worshiper all day and the other was working all day rasool
[20:11]allah looked at the two brothers and he said you know who's
[20:16]the true worshiper it's the one that's working the one who works
[20:19]is the worshiper not the one who prays and fasts all day
[20:24]long but he expects others to take care of him this is
[20:28]not true worship you see tells us the essence of worship it
[20:34]gives a new meaning to worship those who pray all day pray
[20:39]all night and fast all year long and they expect others to
[20:44]take care of them this is not worship this is not true
[20:47]obedience of allah obedience of allah is to work is to rely
[20:52]on yourself and not rely on others it's not to be a
[20:55]burden on others and to be dependent on others true worship is
[21:02]to be independent financially and to help others not that you expect
[21:04]help from others one day he saw a gardener a farmer and
[21:15]a gardener saw him in in medina his hands were dirty his
[21:20]hands were were were dirty from working in the soil rasulullah held
[21:25]those hands and he kissed them and he embraced them he said
[21:30]these are hands that allah loves these are working working hands these
[21:34]are hands that achieve these are hands that make money that bring
[21:39]you honor and grace when you make money you earn people's respect
[21:43]and you earn allah's respect you're independent you don't put your hands
[21:47]forward to others allah said these are hands that allah loves allah
[21:54]wants us to be financially independent to make money to work this
[22:00]is what islam wants from us and this is what we can
[22:04]achieve in the west if you want to live a a successful
[22:10]life in the west get a job and not just any job
[22:13]but the best of jobs if there's two jobs that you can
[22:17]make that you could get one job pays mediocre and another job
[22:21]that pays more and you have the capability of fulfilling the first
[22:27]job take it make more money take the better job fill the
[22:33]best positions let's get the best of jobs and not be lazy
[22:36]even if it requires more work extra work less sleep less rest
[22:42]but it produces more you'll be achieving more pick the better job
[22:47]be the best that you can be this is what islam wants
[22:50]from us may allah have mercy me allah bless the person who
[23:02]does a job and does it correctly does it the best when
[23:08]you don't suffice for a mediocre job or mediocre work but you
[23:12]you be the best you could be in the west hopefully hopefully
[23:19]there's no discrimination no one you know in some parts of the
[23:22]world they ask you are you muslim or are you christian in
[23:25]some parts in the muslim world they'll ask you are you sunni
[23:28]are you shiite as soon as you say your chances of getting
[23:33]the job decreases even if you're the best in your field even
[23:37]if you're the best doctor you're the best professor but you're shiite
[23:40]you lose you'll you will lose your chance to gain that position
[23:43]but in america no one asks you if you're muslim or christian
[23:46]to get a job no one will ask you are you a
[23:49]sunni or ishii no one will ask you who do you follow
[23:52]which marja do you follow none of this matters it's the land
[23:56]of opportunity anyone who has a decent job and is capable of
[24:02]working and could go out and work will be accepted will be
[24:05]hired that is why we do have muslim professionals in the workforce
[24:09]we have some of the most professional muslims the most successful muslims
[24:14]out there and they are proof that it is possible you could
[24:19]be a successful muslim you could be a a a religious muslim
[24:25]god fearing righteous and at the same time allah abiding citizen and
[24:29]at the same time living a very successful life and you choose
[24:34]the best job it's a line of opportunity you could be whatever
[24:38]you want to be as long as it's halal you could be
[24:41]whatever you want to be and be the best that you could
[24:45]be you want to be a journalist go ahead but be the
[24:48]best journalist you want to go into economics go ahead but be
[24:50]the best you can be you want to become an athlete that's
[24:53]fine be the best athlete that you can be so that you
[24:59]inspire you inspire others like you young muslims like you you show
[25:02]them that it's possible to be a good muslim and a good
[25:07]athlete and a successful athlete and a successful american and a successful
[25:10]european you want to go into politics you want to go in
[25:14]into business as long as you remain restricted to islamic values and
[25:20]islamic laws and rulings the sky's the limit go out go out
[25:25]and work go out and achieve islam doesn't tell you have to
[25:28]pray all day and and worship all all night and fast every
[25:31]day if you can fast that's good but if fasting other than
[25:37]ramadan of course if fasting hinders you from working no go and
[25:41]achieve go and work go and bring money back to the house
[25:44]go and raise a family and provide for your family the quran
[25:57]says try to achieve a good place in the hereafter and do
[26:04]not forget this life as well work for both dunya and archer
[26:10]number four steps to living a successful muslim life in the west
[26:17]number four live the american dream buy the best house buy the
[26:26]best car live in your dream house eat the best food go
[26:33]to the best restaurants you can wear the nicest clothing you could
[26:39]go on vacations enjoy yourself you could have a summer home live
[26:44]the american dream no one stops you no one says this is
[26:49]haram no one says it is haram to live in a fancy
[26:50]house or a luxurious house absolutely not no one says it is
[26:55]haram to eat delicious food good food as long as it's halal
[26:59]food no one says it's haram to to buy expensive clothing or
[27:05]to wear a nice watch or drive a nice car you can
[27:08]live the american dream you can do this you can enjoy yourself
[27:14]as long as you're not breaking any islamic law you're not doing
[27:20]anything haram you can enjoy yourself who has forbidden us from the
[27:29]ornaments from the beauties of allah there's beautiful homes and you can
[27:33]afford it go purchase a a nice house for you and your
[27:38]family and your children live in a nice house drive a nice
[27:43]car you don't have to be buy a a used car a
[27:46]beat up car no drive a fancy car you could drive the
[27:49]best of course car is for you and your family and your
[27:53]children we have a hadith that says a rich person who is
[27:59]grateful that lives a nice life and allows others to live a
[28:03]nice life who spends money on others is better than a poor
[28:06]person who is patient someone who's poor but says to be rich
[28:12]but grateful is better than being poor but patient no go out
[28:19]be rich make money earn your living be the richest you can
[28:23]be but don't forget faith don't forget religion and don't waste we
[28:31]shouldn't waste quran says eat what you want and drink what you
[28:42]want however don't be wasteful don't be wasteful how much can you
[28:47]eat eat that much don't buy more than you can handle but
[28:52]don't buy more than what you want otherwise it will be wasting
[28:57]you need two cars buy two cars but when you buy four
[28:59]or five that's wasting that's being lavish that's what arun had he
[29:04]was being lavish all the money that he was spending on himself
[29:09]that he did not need he was being crazy and that's why
[29:13]he he perished do not be wasteful because those who waste are
[29:24]the brothers of shaytan step number five don't don't forget your spiritual
[29:31]well-being what do i mean by this we said in step number
[29:37]four live the american dream here we say but do not live
[29:43]in a dream live the american dream but don't live in a
[29:48]dream don't forget reality don't forget that we're here in this world
[29:51]temporarily and sooner or later we will be told to pack our
[29:56]bags and leave but unfortunately our bags stay all travelers their bags
[30:01]go with them but there's one travel one journey where our bags
[30:05]stay own whatever you want but don't let anything own you own
[30:11]the things that you want and the things that you need but
[30:14]make sure that they don't own you make sure that they don't
[30:18]take control over you and over your mind and over your heart
[30:23]this is very important live the american dream live a nice life
[30:29]live in the fanciest homes and drive the fanciest cars but don't
[30:32]forget your naps don't forget your spiritual well-being don't forget that you
[30:40]have a nafs to take care of and not just a body
[30:42]you take care of your body you relax you you let your
[30:48]body sleep on the best mattresses in the best homes but take
[30:51]care of your naps your nephew needs to be fed as well
[30:55]don't forget your mosque don't forget your masjid don't forget your hussaini
[31:02]don't forget salat don't forget thursday nights to recite these are all
[31:09]things that you will need to live a successful life in the
[31:13]west it's not about it's not all about materialism you could own
[31:18]whatever you want but at the same time don't neglect your naps
[31:21]your nephew requires nourishment your nephew requires admonishment you need to work
[31:26]you need to hear a word of advice we all do i
[31:30]need to hear a word of advice every once in a while
[31:33]we need to be reminded that this life is temporary that we
[31:37]are here for a certain amount of time and we need to
[31:40]make use of it and benefit from it for achara and for
[31:44]dunya and then we're told to leave we have to be reminded
[31:49]of this we cannot become arrogant and say i no longer need
[31:53]to go to the mosque the mosque is for the poor the
[31:55]mosque is for those who cannot afford to live the way i
[32:01]live this is nonsense be rich live the american life but don't
[32:04]be arrogant we shouldn't become arrogant materialism is not is not enough
[32:12]to bring us happiness don't think that by living the american dream
[32:16]and you have the best house and you have the best car
[32:19]and you have all the money in the world and you have
[32:20]a vacation home that you'll be happy materialism is part of it
[32:25]some of our happiness comes from materialism the other half comes from
[32:30]our neps our nephs has to be happy our nephs has to
[32:36]be well fed and we're not and well nourished we need spirituality
[32:40]in our life we need religion in our life we need admonishment
[32:44]and advice in our life we need to be reminded of the
[32:48]otherwise materialism is not enough materialism won't buy you happiness it's spirituality
[32:55]you will need spirituality otherwise you will not gain happiness that is
[32:59]why we see a lot of people in the west they have
[33:01]all the money in the world but they'll commit suicide or they're
[33:06]not happy or they're on drugs or they're on alcohol you think
[33:10]they're living the dream but they're not why because all they cared
[33:16]for was materialism and they forgot about spirituality they forgot about their
[33:21]nuts they forgot about their they forgot about their spiritual well-being we
[33:26]should not let materialism take over us we should not get lost
[33:33]into materialism we should not let life fool us this is important
[33:38]to live a successful life in the west don't get fooled by
[33:43]life in the west or the materialistic life and the west there's
[33:46]another life waiting for us whether you live in the east or
[33:51]the west we will all end up in the same grave and
[33:56]we'll all wear the same same shrouds and we will all be
[34:00]washed before our death and put into that grave we should never
[34:04]forget this this should always be on our mind number six to
[34:10]live a successful life in the west you should make your your
[34:14]family and your children a priority this is very important we've put
[34:21]what do i mean by priority you know a lot of times
[34:25]we care for our children we put them in the best schools
[34:29]we we get them tutors private tutors we put them in the
[34:35]best after after school programs soccer football i t swimming lessons karate
[34:42]lessons and we take care of them physically we take care of
[34:47]them materialistically we make sure that our kids have whatever they want
[34:50]they wear the best clothing they wear the best shoes they have
[34:55]all the latest equipment but we also have to make sure that
[35:01]their spiritual well-being is taken care of we have to make sure
[35:03]that we raise them in a proper islamic manner with islamic values
[35:08]if we could put them in an islamic school we should put
[35:11]them in islamic school if we can't then there's saturday school or
[35:16]sunday school or friday night youth programs or summer camps or winter
[35:21]camps this is important your children are a priority there are some
[35:25]they think that just by putting their kids in the best schools
[35:28]and buying them the best gadgets and buying them the best clothing
[35:33]they've fulfilled their responsibility towards those children no my dear friends you've
[35:39]only taken care of you're taking care of them you've taken care
[35:43]of them materialistically but not spiritually it's like a car we take
[35:47]the car to the car wash and we wash it from the
[35:51]outside but we neglect the inside from the outside people will assume
[35:55]this is a beautiful car because they see from the outside it's
[35:59]nice it's clean but as soon as they open the doors they
[36:02]will see the mess inside we have to make sure that that
[36:06]doesn't happen to us and it doesn't happen to our children we
[36:11]shouldn't get immersed into our business and our jobs into living the
[36:17]american dream by neglecting our children by not seeing them by not
[36:22]spending time with them not going out with them not having discussions
[36:26]with them not being their friends by not saying what are their
[36:32]challenges what are the problems that they face this is very important
[36:36]your children are a priority number seven do not forget your identity
[36:41]you can live in america for 50 years you can live in
[36:45]europe for 50 years you can live in australia for 60 years
[36:47]but don't forget who you are don't forget where you came from
[36:53]don't forget your religion don't forget your heritage don't forget your culture
[36:59]don't forget your language don't forget your names and your last names
[37:04]and your forefathers and your family tree and your lineage don't forget
[37:13]your manners you know there's a lot of youth they come to
[37:16]america or the west and they forget their culture they forget their
[37:23]matters a guest comes we don't even stand for them we sit
[37:27]on the couch when a guest comes home we don't greet them
[37:30]at the door we sit at home we sit on the couch
[37:34]when they leave we don't walk them to the door we call
[37:36]them by their first name we don't respect the elders we call
[37:40]them by their first name or we we walk in front of
[37:44]in front of the elders this is wrong this means we're forgetting
[37:50]our manners we're forgetting our forgetting we've picked up manners from others
[37:55]be american be english be dutch be australian but this doesn't mean
[38:01]you forget who you are or you forget the language you forget
[38:04]the language you don't speak your language anymore arabic farsi urdu gujarati
[38:09]you forget the language why this means that you're you're forgetting your
[38:15]identity you're forgetting your heritage you're forgetting who you are and where
[38:22]you came from and what you represent don't forget this just because
[38:25]you live in the west it doesn't mean that you're you forget
[38:29]the east and you're disconnected from the east no visit your countries
[38:33]go to them go to your family members know the history of
[38:38]your country know where you come from don't change your names and
[38:44]your last names this doesn't mean just because we live in america
[38:48]that means we forget all about our heritage and our custom and
[38:52]our culture let's take pride in our names let's take pride in
[38:55]our last names let's take pride in our language in our culture
[39:00]don't forget your identity you could be a lebanese-american just because you're
[39:07]american it doesn't mean that you're no longer lebanese or iraqi or
[39:11]iranian or pakistani or indian or hoja or no you could be
[39:15]a lebanese-american you could be an iraqi american you could be an
[39:18]iranian dutch you could be dutch we joined between two cultures and
[39:25]two civilizations we're the children of that's the east and the west
[39:30]we shouldn't forget who we are and where we came from we
[39:33]shouldn't forget our lineage and our heritage number eight you want to
[39:38]live a successful life in the west be involved politically you live
[39:46]here you pay your taxes here the laws here concern you the
[39:50]domestic laws the domestic policies and the foreign policies if you live
[39:56]if you are allah abiding muslim in the west that means you're
[40:04]paying taxes you can have a say in how your taxes are
[40:06]being spent domestically and abroad you can have a say we live
[40:15]in the west in countries that are democratic there's no dictatorships you
[40:20]can choose your political leaders you can have a say in how
[40:23]your tax dollars are spent unfortunately there's a lot of muslims that
[40:27]don't vote they're not politically engaged they could care less what happens
[40:33]in politics hence politicians in the west they don't cater to muslims
[40:37]because they know we don't vote we could care less to vote
[40:40]and we don't sponsor political campaigns imagine if we were to vote
[40:47]how powerful would be imagine if we were to sponsor political campaigns
[40:51]how powerful would be our voice would be heard and there would
[40:57]be no discrimination against us imagine if we had muslim political organizations
[41:02]if we had lobbies and would support financially support muslim political organizations
[41:09]or we supported political campaigns our voice would be heard because money
[41:15]speaks louder than words when you sponsor a politician he'll make sure
[41:20]that your word is hurt in the senate in congress in the
[41:23]white house and the government we need to be politically engaged and
[41:29]active no one will come and hand us our rights on a
[41:35]plate rights are taken they're not given we need to fight look
[41:40]at the muslim ban how long can this go on look at
[41:43]the ban on the nikaab in some countries look at the ban
[41:47]on halal in some countries and this could this could happen in
[41:53]in your country and in other countries our rights can be taken
[41:57]away from us what do we do we just say and we
[42:00]say we need to take action political action look at the discrimination
[42:06]in some places in the west in the workforce against muslims where
[42:11]there's hate crimes against muslims we can do something about it if
[42:15]you care for your well-being in the west if you want to
[42:18]live a successful life in the west you have to be politically
[42:21]engaged number one number nine support your religious and charitable organizations if
[42:29]allah has bestowed upon you with wealth you're well off you've done
[42:36]you've done good now give back to the community give back to
[42:39]the organizations that are helping you give give to your mosque give
[42:43]to your these are places where you can find in you can
[42:48]find it for spirituality for spiritual well-being give back to your mosque
[42:52]we should not be in the cult in the habit of taking
[42:56]but also giving back let's have the culture of giving back to
[43:02]the community and not just giving if you want quality services you
[43:08]have to help out you have to help out you have to
[43:11]give your mosque is a must that's where you learn your faith
[43:15]it's where your children will learn their faith it's where your grandchildren
[43:18]will learn will learn their faith it's where you meet other muslims
[43:23]just like we spend money on coffee on the gym and everything
[43:27]else let's spend on our mosque and our religious institutions we can't
[43:31]live a successful life in the west without our mosques without our
[43:36]islamic centers and islamic schools and charitable organizations let's give and also
[43:44]don't forget your friends and family members across the ocean overseas let's
[43:49]give to them in iraq and lebanon and libya and yemen and
[43:52]syria and iran and afghanistan and afghanistan if you're well off in
[43:57]the west give them as well share some of your wealth take
[44:00]care of your family members take care of your distant relatives take
[44:03]care of friends and even those who you don't know allah has
[44:08]bestowed upon you a gift share that gift so that it is
[44:13]not taken from you and number 10 don't disconnect from the from
[44:21]the east don't forget your hajj don't forget your umbra don't forget
[44:25]your ziara you could be living in the west you live in
[44:28]the west and you live a successful life in the west but
[44:31]you have to stay connected by going to hajj by going to
[44:38]umrah these things you should not neglect it should be on your
[44:41]mind at least one of them a year either hajj or umrah
[44:45]or ziyarah come for ziara visit your imams pay allegiance to your
[44:51]imams reconnect with bait come to the ziad of imam hussain come
[44:55]and renew your allegiance to imam hussain how grand is imam hussain
[45:01]when his when he has a ziara in every occasion in every
[45:06]occasion in mid-season and rajab first of all for him he's saying
[45:11]in mind this is saying on the day of out of feathers
[45:16]that's saying on the days of eid there's this year for imam
[45:22]hussein why because allah wants us to stay connected to our imam
[45:26]because the amount of saying is very much in faith it plays
[45:31]a major role in our faith in our school of thought let's
[45:35]not forget him let's not forget what imam hassan ali salaam has
[45:38]done for us so we give for him as well so we
[45:44]stay connected with him and we remember an infant a child you
[45:56]know when you when you go to someone's home and you take
[46:02]a a bouquet of flowers you pick the the most beautiful flowers
[46:06]there is in the store and you take it to that person's
[46:12]home the person you who you're visiting but you pick the nicest
[46:14]flower and you put it on top of the bouquet the the
[46:19]one that stands out imam hussain ali salaam gave a bouquet of
[46:24]flowers on the day of ashura his brother al abbas the finest
[46:31]of his companions and the companions of rasulullah and the companions of
[46:36]amir mohammed but on top of this beautiful bouquet he wanted to
[46:39]put a tiny small little bouquet a tiny small little flower that
[46:45]stands out imam hussain put on his armor put on his shield
[46:54]he wore his sword he was about to enter the battlefield his
[47:00]sister zainab came to him your infant is dying from thirst he's
[47:07]dying from thirst do something about it his mother she had brought
[47:14]the child to say the zainab she told him take your your
[47:16]child this child belongs to you i cannot breastfeed him and he's
[47:21]dying say zainab brought the child to imam was saying imam hussain
[47:28]took off his shield took off his armor put down his sword
[47:32]he brought the child without a weapon meaning i'm not here to
[47:38]fight you show some mercy so show some compassion he came to
[47:45]them and he said if i am guilty of wrongdoing then what
[47:49]guilt what wrongdoing has this child committed this infant has committed if
[47:55]you won't give me water give water to this child the enemy
[47:58]soldiers they huddle someone said let's give them water someone else said
[48:02]let's kill the father let's kill them um was known for shooting
[48:18]arrows he said there should be no argument and the dispute knew
[48:28]what um was saying he meant he knew that he he was
[48:33]saying kill make a kill he said should i kill the father
[48:39]or should i kill the son he told them do you not
[48:45]see the whites how white the neck of the child is means
[48:49]go for the neck go for the child it says that on
[48:54]the day of i shot three arrows one it landed in the
[49:01]eye of ability second landed in the chest of imam hussein but
[49:05]the one that broke my heart was the third arrow that landed
[49:10]in the neck of abdullah it pierced from one side and came
[49:16]out the other he said i through the arrow it pierced from
[49:20]one side through the other the child started shaking and struggling like
[49:26]a bird being slaughtered imam hussain all of a sudden he saw
[49:31]blood dripping from the neck of his son abdullah he gathered the
[49:36]neck he gathered the blood and he threw it to the sky
[49:39]and he said allah i hope that this is not lighter than
[49:52]the camel of the people of the moon when they slaughtered a
[49:57]camel you destroyed that that tribe don't take this slightly i hope
[50:01]that this is not taken lightly i seek refuge and knowing that
[50:11]allah is watching and he is looking over what is happening to
[50:16]me imam hussain he hid the child underneath his underneath his clothing
[50:22]he came back to the camp his daughter sukena did you quench
[50:33]the thirst of my brother and is there any water remaining he
[50:38]said foreign may allah accept the last 10 nights of commemoration and
[51:53]for the family of hussein and the companions of hussein and the
[51:57]children of hussein and the daughters of hussein may allah accept your
[52:02]tears may allah accept the pledges of alicia allegiance that you placed
[52:07]towards hussain and may allah forever reform your hearts and align your
[52:14]hearts with that hussain make sure your tears and your thoughts and
[52:20]your allegiances are not just the ten nights of ashwara but rather
[52:24]we use it to springboard our reformation of ourselves in order to
[52:29]be more aligned with i speak to myself before i speak to
[52:34]anyone else in sha allah on a night like this hussein as
[52:40]well as bidding his farewell to the women and children his brothers
[52:44]and sisters but on the day of he had one more difficult
[52:49]task to do and this difficult task really cemented truth and falsehood
[52:55]when he takes his young son abdullah in the middle of the
[52:59]battlefield and says if you have a problem with me then what
[53:02]is the sin of this child in the poem we are drawing
[53:09]comparisons between imam al-hussein and that of the unborn son of father
[53:21]and the poem comes and says between the two children the first
[53:27]the thirst between the two children the thirst and fight [Music] complaining
[54:08]to each other beneath the night in madina a house on fire
[54:20]burns beneath a moon in carabao for help a father [Music] [Music]
