[1:30]in the name of God the most beneficent the most merciful all

[1:33]praise is due to the Lord master of all the worlds and

[1:40]peace and blessings be on All His prophets and especially the final

[1:42]Prophet The Prophet Muhammad s my respected brothers and sisters congratulations to

[1:49]each and every one of you on the holy month of Ramadan

[1:53]may Allah bless each and every one of you I bid you

[1:56]and just when we thought we had no content left NBC decides

[2:02]to release a series on the life of no other than muawiya

[2:06]now when this news came out I think it came out as

[2:10]a shock to many people it wasn't a shock really to myself

[2:12]because on the first level NBC has had a history of producing

[2:19]a series or documentaries on different figures in the Islamic world but

[2:23]I think some people are quite shocked that they went to a

[2:27]documentary or a series on the life of muawiya for the month

[2:31]because mua is often a disputed figure in Islamic history in the

[2:35]past they may have done a series on the life of for

[2:38]example but when you're doing one on the life of mua that

[2:44]brings about a certain sense of shock maybe confusion maybe some controversy

[2:49]and I've seen people who've gone up in arms and they're quite

[2:53]angry with this but I personally don't see a single issue with

[2:59]there being a serious on muawiya in the holy month of Ramadan

[3:01]or in sha or in or in or in mam or any

[3:07]time of the year why because I don't believe that one school

[3:13]in Islam should have a monopoly on dictating to everybody else what

[3:17]should be presented from Islamic history and what shouldn't if someone wants

[3:21]to do a documentary on any figure in Islamic history they have

[3:25]every right to when they've released this series on muawiya first first

[3:31]and foremost I don't want to be someone who judges the series

[3:34]without having watched it cuz we sometimes fall into that trap we

[3:37]hear for example AA there is taking place around the world that

[3:43]how could someone talk about muawiya in a positive way we haven't

[3:47]even watched one episode yet how do we know how the director

[3:53]May reach a conclusion on the life of mua and if he

[3:55]does reach a conclusion which is positive that's completely up to him

[3:58]and if he reaches a conclusion which is negative that's completely up

[4:05]to him there has to be an understanding this holy month of

[4:08]Ramadan when we dissect the literature and this wonderful new set behind

[4:11]me when we dissect the literature with all these books behind me

[4:14]there has to be an understanding that your narrative in relation to

[4:19]a figure like muaah may not be the same narrative that everybody

[4:23]else concludes with I may have a narrative about early Islamic history

[4:29]your narrative may be different does everybody in this world have to

[4:36]agree with my narrative not really so if there's a director out

[4:39]there who has decided to make a documentary or a series on

[4:43]muawiya I don't blame him my PhD was on muaw my PhD

[4:50]was not on IM aliam nor on IM nor on IM Hussein

[4:54]one of the rudest Awakenings that I ever had in my life

[4:57]was when I did my PhD on muaah because I understood muawiya

[5:02]from a number of different lenses which I don't think many do

[5:06]muaah ruled much of the Islamic State for 40 years or so

[5:14]mua fought the likes of IM Ali and Imam muaah had Palestine

[5:19]Lebanon Jordan and Syria under his command and some ways he was

[5:23]making inroads into Medina into kufa muaah did Ure that Islam was

[5:27]spread whether you believe that that's the Islam you agree with whether

[5:32]you agree with expansionism or not whether expansionism is the worldview of

[5:37]my school or not mua managed to reach from Africa to Cyprus

[5:40]therefore when I'm looking at muaah and I'm seeing this series I

[5:46]see people straight away saying why are they doing a series on

[5:49]mua and people are cursing mua and attacking mua and doing this

[5:51]on mua and that on muaah my dear brothers and sisters the

[5:56]reality is that NBC has every right and the director and producer

[5:59]and editor have every right to make a series on mua like

[6:05]I might have a right to make a series on imass I

[6:08]might have a right to make a series on IM you find

[6:12]that in Iran for example there's been a series that's been done

[6:14]on IM or on M or on just because you've reached a

[6:21]conclusion about mua doesn't mean that every other Muslim has to agree

[6:26]with you and likewise if I as a sh reach a conclusion

[6:30]about muaah every other Muslim shouldn't be offended if I'm not going

[6:38]to be offended when another person writes or lectures or Praises such

[6:42]figures then they shouldn't be offended when I have my narrative and

[6:46]my reading as well the problem is sometimes that when you want

[6:50]to depict Islamic history people want to depict Islamic history with only

[6:56]their version and the moment somebody else produces another version of Islamic

[6:58]history then automatically you'll see a slanging match take place you have

[7:05]a version about muawiya I may not accept it but I'll tolerate

[7:09]it society today especially on Western Shores is a society of free

[7:13]speech even now I will add that there are parts of the

[7:17]Middle East where there might be more free speech than there had

[7:19]been 10 15 20 years ago not every country in the Middle

[7:22]East has the same level of Free Speech but there might be

[7:27]more tolerance to opinion in contrast to what it might have been

[7:29]10 15 20 years years ago each country differs therefore when I

[7:34]saw the trailer for the series on muawiya I did realize that

[7:38]there's definitely anay movement that's on the rise there's definitely a a

[7:43]praise of benay and mua that's on the rise I look for

[7:49]example now in Syria Damascus there's this glorification of masi and how

[7:53]people are so proud to post videos of them praying at M

[7:57]I don't have a single issue with that that person for him

[7:59]he may have reached a conclusion that that's part of their Golden

[8:04]Age I'm now even seen videos online where there is a a

[8:07]major aim to defend muawiya and the cause of muawiya if you

[8:12]play please clip number one you'll see this particular video where Faris

[8:18]hamadi makes clear what his opinion is about muaah in reply to

[8:22]a question that's been posed to him only recently please play clip

[8:28]number one what's your thought on muawiya you know what La Means

[8:34]not Los Angeles means may Allah curse him I think Allah will

[8:40]curse the people who curse muaah because mua is a companion mua

[8:44]is a companion and the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam did Dua for

[8:49]him and he as the scholars said muawiya is the Gateway of

[8:55]the Companions and anybody who Slanders and thinks ill of muawiya any

[8:58]of the sahabah and muaah then he has a sickness and a

[9:04]disease and a poison in his heart and in his head so

[9:05]uh refrain from this we don't curse anyone yeah we curse only

[9:12]the the bad people but cursing the companions guide you or may

[9:18]Allah punish you you know your your opponent will be mu not

[9:21]only mu and the prophet sallallah alai wasallam because he loved mu

[9:25]and he did Dua for mua may Allah be pleased with him

[9:27]you see I don't have an issue got my points in which

[9:32]I can reply but faradi that's his worldview he now suddenly became

[9:35]a representative of and from tomorrow I'm going to ask the question

[9:38]what is Sunni Islam what are the roots of Sunni Islam Sunni

[9:43]Islam is it monolithic or are there so many different strands of

[9:45]it that it's been divided and subdivided and subdivided and subdivided and

[9:49]arguably one of the greatest PR games that's ever been played is

[9:52]how Sunni Islam has been portrayed as a monolithic entity when in

[9:55]reality the subdivisions of Theology and law are absolutely all over the

[10:03]place when faradi talks and says this is Mu this is he's

[10:06]offering his opinion why not let him offer his opinion but he

[10:09]cannot force his opinion on me and that's where we come with

[10:16]this month of Ramadan the aim for us is to be able

[10:19]to elaborate that this is my reading that's your reading if you

[10:22]believe you want to be raised with mua on the day of

[10:24]judgment you're more than welcome to have that what's wrong if you

[10:28]are to be raised with Abu Bakr andar and why not you

[10:30]be raised with them I don't want to be raised with them

[10:34]because I have a reading and you have a reading you have

[10:36]literature and I have literat I have no interest in being raised

[10:40]with any of them I don't want to even be near any

[10:44]of these personalities but in the same way you have your proofs

[10:47]for why you want to be with the gateway to the prophet

[10:51]muaah likewise I have my proofs why I want to stay far

[10:53]away from him the point is that when a film is made

[10:59]about muaah and everyone's up in arms about that film sometimes I

[11:02]don't think that the non is the issue I think the sh

[11:07]is the issue why because the sh has missed a particular point

[11:40]jumped and said you cannot have your narrative but you can have

[11:46]your narrative on mua and you can have your narrative on Omar

[11:49]there's no issue there but if I want to have a narrative

[11:53]on fatat Z's life why the protests outside Cinemas everywhere you have

[11:57]your narrative I have mine my conclusion is that she died as

[12:01]a matter my conclusion is that her house was attacked that's my

[12:03]narrative so why is there a problem with my film and you

[12:09]can have your film why is it that when anyone offers a

[12:14]reading that differs with what's so-called the mainstream although tonight's episode I'm

[12:17]going to show you that even when you're looking at Sunni Islam

[12:21]not everybody agrees with Faris Al hamadi at all and I'm going

[12:25]to show you certain members of Sunni Islam who completely disagree on

[12:28]muawiya and in some cases can't stand muawiya but why is it

[12:34]that it's okay to have your narrative about muaah and about the

[12:37]life of om but the moment I have a narrative about F

[12:41]Z's life that's controversial why can't everybody have their narrative and their

[12:47]reading of Islamic history and we can agree to disagree the problem

[12:50]that came with the lady of heaven was that you said the

[12:52]sahabah faces were being depicted but in this mua film the sahab's

[12:58]faces are depicted so why is it there's no protest why no

[13:01]demonstrations what's the issue you said that the film Lady Of Heaven

[13:05]Was sectarian a film on muawiya is borderline sectarian I don't think

[13:14]muawiya necessarily represents the most united front of Islamic history I know

[13:18]in patching him up you have to try and show that at

[13:20]the end he wanted Unity but at the cost of uh just

[13:24]a few thousand dead people in a number of Wars the issue

[13:29]therefore when we examine Islamic history is that we need to understand

[13:35]each other's narrative we cannot believe that our narrative is the only

[13:41]narrative you have a narrative about mua and say he's the great

[13:46]gateway to the prophet peace be upon his family I have a

[13:48]narrative about the killer of and I believe that they are far

[13:53]away from the prophet and his family that's your narrative and I

[13:56]have mine if you make a film don't jump about that film

[13:59]let them have their film let them have their documentary what's the

[14:05]issue let them have their narrative but don't be so apologetic about

[14:10]your narrative there's no need to be apologetic about your narrative we

[14:14]live in a world where films are produced we live in a

[14:17]world where documentaries are there where series are there where narratives are

[14:21]being portrayed and instilled when in the holy month of Ramadan and

[14:24]this brings me to a point when we have these discussions of

[14:28]the holy month of Ramadan some people will say the month of

[14:30]Ramadan is the month of spirituality tell the members of NBC that

[14:33]it's a month of spirituality why have you put muawiya they'll turn

[14:37]around and say what's wrong gaining knowledge about Islamic history spirituality gaining

[14:40]knowledge about a Calif of the calips of Islam is spirituality they'll

[14:44]turn around and say what's wrong we are the ones who are

[14:48]overly apologetic no you know what this is a month that we

[14:50]talk about prayers talk about prayers it's a month we talk about

[14:54]fasting talk about fasting there's no issue there whatsoever why not it's

[14:57]a month that we should talk about Dua why not talk about

[14:59]Dua in this holy month it's a month that we should talk

[15:02]about how we get get closer to Allah subhana wa taala why

[15:06]not we want to get closer to Allah subhana wa tala in

[15:08]this holy month wonderful but one of the ways in which we

[15:12]get closer to Allah subhana wa ta'ala in this holy month is

[15:14]what is that we learn about our history and we study our

[15:20]literature and we understand our teachings and we understand the base of

[15:24]everything that we have within our lives therefore for us in this

[15:27]holy month of Ramadan when I go through each discussion my aim

[15:32]is to Simply put forward the sh narrative some people used to

[15:35]ask me the question the talks that you give in the holy

[15:38]month of Ramadan on this issue are they for non who said

[15:40]they for non they're for my Shia because if my Shia today

[15:45]were asked the followers of were asked how would you look at

[15:48]muaw is mua looked at in one way only in shiaism is

[15:53]mua looked at only in one way in the Sunni World I'll

[15:55]turn around and say no on the contrary in the Sunni World

[16:00]there are people who have far's opinion that mu is the one

[16:03]who wrote the MU is the of the M the uncle of

[16:12]the Believers muaah is a gateway to the holy prophet peace be

[16:14]upon him and his family but then there are others who came

[16:16]forward and said don't say that that's what we all believe there

[16:22]are many of us who may generalize about the non opinion on

[16:25]muaah but the reality is when a person looks at the non

[16:29]opinion on someone like mua there are different opinions that are posited

[16:36]in the last 20 25 years alone there have been Scholars who

[16:40]are not Shia who have given negative opinions on muaah and the

[16:44]character of muawiya if you can please play clip number two you'll

[16:51]see one of the most damning attacks on muawiya that you will

[16:54]ever see online please play clip number two for [Music] for for

[18:29]for Dr Adnan ibraim with one of the most damning attacks on

[19:31]mua you'll ever see Dr Ibrahim is not sh is not sh

[19:37]but was willing to reexamine the Sunni reading on muawiya or I

[19:42]should say was willing to reply to the current Sunni trend on

[19:46]muaah I met someone recently in omra we were in omra in

[19:52]Medina and He was discussing with me he was Sunni He was

[19:54]discussing with me he said I don't like the way Sunni thought

[20:00]today is praising muaah this is not our Direction Dr Adan ibraim

[20:04]here discusses mua by blatantly saying that IM Hussein in Sunni sources

[20:10]says to muaah I have no excuse in the eyes of God

[20:17]not to do Jihad against you except that you've done a treaty

[20:21]with my brother this is before just before muaah died he said

[20:27]I have no excuse in the eyes of Allah not to do

[20:29]Jihad against you for me as a sh when a member of

[20:34]the Holy household the grandson of the holy prophet Master of the

[20:38]Youth of paradise when you ask me as a sh why is

[20:42]it that I despise mua this is my narrative IM Hussein says

[20:48]I have no excuse in the eyes of Allah as to why

[20:49]I should not do Jihad against who against you Maran says at

[20:57]that moment that Al Hussein is the the cause of FNA mua

[21:00]replies to IM Hussein Alam you try and plot against me I'll

[21:05]plot against you now you tell me when a person blatantly says

[21:09]to the grandson of Al quite ironically that that same grandson who

[21:13]was butchered by who no other than masallah mua's son's Army inala

[21:22]to IM Hussein Alam as a Muslim would you ever say to

[22:12]the Prophet peace be upon his family some Sunni say they are

[22:14]in hell and others say no likewise with muaah Ahmed kui in

[22:21]this next clip one of the renowned Iraqi Scholars ahed discusses how

[22:28]we have which is us the rejectors of Abu Bak Omar and

[22:32]and because of our reading we do not have the reference that

[22:37]others do for them and then he says but there is also

[22:38]a group and they are known as the those who have hate

[34:02]of the Prophet peace be upon him and his family we carried

[34:05]the Adobe of the mosque one brick at a time while used

[34:10]to carry two at a time everybody's carrying one brick at a

[34:15]timear binas is carrying two at a time the prophet passed byar

[34:22]Bas and removed the dust of his head and said may Allah

[34:25]be merciful to Amar an aggressive group will kill him Amar will

[34:34]be inviting them his murderers to obey Allah and they will invite

[34:40]him to the Hellfire look at the Arabic over here what does

[34:45]the Arabic say it comes over here [Music] Amar invites the people

[35:05]to who towards Allah while his murderers invite him to where hell

[35:10]what does it say an aggressive group will kill him ask anybody

[35:18]in Islamic history Amar died in his 90s fighting who who did

[35:26]Amar die fighting which battle did Amar die in the Battle of

[35:33]sa Amar died alongside IM Ali fighting mua how do you have

[35:40]an ounce of respect okay that's your reading no problem but I

[35:44]ask you like ibim anded said how do you have respect for

[35:49]this guy this guy is fighting as you say the khif of

[35:51]his time khif who's rightful all sinner has to be obeyed I

[35:57]would think you'd agree that IM Ali is rightful okay mu fights

[36:00]the prophet peace be upon many times people ask this question why

[36:04]didn't the prophet tell people who the good guys are around him
