[0:04]audhu billahi min ash-shaytani r-rajim bismillahi r-rahmani r-rahim al-hamdu lillahi rabbil alameen
[0:13]wa sallahu allah sayidina muhammadin wa ala nabina Tajin allah wa salli
[0:20]ala muhammad my respected brothers and sisters assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh i welcome
[0:32]you all to this course on the biography of the holy prophet
[0:37]muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa ala he is the greatest messenger of god
[0:43]the greatest creation of the all-mighty God the final and seal of
[0:50]all prophets and messengers allah subhana wa ta'ala chose him to deliver
[0:55]to us his final message the religion of Islam every human being
[1:00]is indebted to the contributions of this great man today we will
[1:09]provide an introduction to the biography of the Prophet to reconstruct the
[1:15]biography of the Prophet and then in following courses we will delve
[1:20]into the details of the life of the Prophet from his birth
[1:23]all the way to his final days in sha allah he is
[1:29]indeed the greatest messenger of allah subhanahu wata'ala when you see what
[1:35]some non-muslims have said about the prophets that is also an indication
[1:39]that the prophets left an everlasting impact on this world I want
[1:45]to share with you some quotes about the Prophet one of the
[1:53]historians by the name of Michael Hart he has a book in
[1:57]which he ranks the 100 most influential people in history now this
[2:05]man is not Muslim in fact he's critical of Islam well that's
[2:11]interesting even though he talks about the Prophet but he is critical
[2:17]of Islam yet he he confesses that the most influential person in
[2:24]history as the holy prophet muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa so in his
[2:29]list of the hundred most influential people in his ranking who do
[2:35]you think he'll is first number one on his list he's Christian
[2:37]so you would antis anticipate that he would list prophet Jesus peace
[2:42]be upon him right but who does he list he lists the
[2:47]Prophet peace be upon him as the most influential person in history
[2:50]now when he was criticized you know why did you choose him
[2:52]to be the first person on the list this is what he
[2:56]says and I'll read you his exact code he says my choice
[3:02]of muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam oast influential persons may surprise some
[3:07]readers and may be questioned by others but he was the only
[3:15]man in history who was supremely successful in both the religious and
[3:20]the secular levels most when it came to his religion and both
[3:23]when it came to politics the economy running and managing a society
[3:28]the most successful man in history and then he mentions of humble
[3:36]origins Muhammad founded and promulgated one of the world's great religions even
[3:42]though he had such a humble origin and and became an immensely
[3:47]effective political leader today 13 centuries after his death his influence is
[3:53]still powerful and pervasive then he mentions the majority of the persons
[3:57]in this book meaning those hundred that he speaks about and he
[4:01]ranks in his book he says the majority of them had the
[4:06]advantage of being born and raised in centers of civilization highly cultured
[4:11]or politically pivotal nations Muhammad however was born in the year 570
[4:18]in the city of Mecca in southern Arab Arabia at that time
[4:20]a backward area of the world so the most influential person in
[4:25]history is emerging from which region from one of the most backward
[4:31]regions in the world far from the center of trade art and
[4:35]learning orphaned at age six he was reared in modest surroundings orphaned
[4:42]from his mother otherwise he never met his father because his father
[4:47]as we will see passed away when his mother was pregnant with
[4:51]him weird in modest surroundings and Islamic traditions tell us that the
[4:57]Prophet never even practiced reading and writing so a man of such
[5:00]modest origins in a backward society who'd never learned to read or
[5:08]write became the most influential figure in history what does that tell
[5:12]you about the greatness of this man let's take the words of
[5:15]Gandhi you all know who Gandhi is the great Indian revolutionary statesman
[5:20]and thinker he made he mentions an important point especially today when
[5:27]many non-muslims and Westerners believe that Islam spread by the sword right
[5:32]that the Prophet became victorious through the sword what does Gandhi say
[5:37]the Ghandi in a periodical called young India in 1928 this is
[5:43]what he writes he says I became more than ever convinced after
[5:46]reading about the life of the Prophet that it was not the
[5:49]sword that won a place for Islam in those days in the
[5:55]scheme of life it wasn't the sword what was it it was
[6:00]the rigid simplicity the utter self-effacement of the Prophet the scrupulous regard
[6:06]for his pledges his intense devotion to his friends and followers his
[6:13]intrepidity his his fearlessness his absolute trust in God and in his
[6:19]own mission these and not the sword carried everything before them and
[6:23]surmounted every trouble so here he is witnessing that it was not
[6:30]the sword Edward given a the great British historian what does he
[6:34]say he says the greatest success of Muhammad's life was effected by
[6:39]sheer moral force without the stroke of a sword here you have
[6:44]a famous British historian who's saying that the success of the Prophet
[6:50]was not with the strike of a sword it was with what
[6:55]his sheer moral force and hence what does the Quran say were
[6:59]in akela Allah who'll open Alim and you are of utmost and
[7:05]ha the highest character it should lock of the Holy Prophet peace
[7:10]be upon him that he was able to offer these contributions now
[7:15]it is truly a miracle when you examine the prophet's life within
[7:22]such a short period of time in a period of 23 years
[7:24]how this man transformed that society and left an everlasting impact on
[7:31]humanity this great man however the greatest man God has ever created
[7:37]historically has been oppressed until this very day by who who are
[7:44]the ones who have most oppressed the Prophet is it the non-muslims
[7:49]is it the Christians the Jews the Hindus the Burmese who is
[7:53]it the Muslims the Muslims are the most people who have committed
[8:01]acts of injustice against the name of the holy prophet sallallaahu honey
[8:05]yuan and this is not something recent that we see in our
[8:09]modern time this existed right after the Prophet even in his own
[8:16]life yes but especially after his life those rulers who came after
[8:21]the Prophet especially the Oh mania dynasty you know when we talk
[8:25]about Islamophobia and these attacks on the religion of Islam and the
[8:30]name of the Prophet the Oh mania started it not these Western
[8:35]countries long before there was a West and there was Western civilization
[8:40]that was so-called Muslims who defamed the Prophet who had a problem
[8:46]with the name of Muhammad why are we Yazeed his son they
[8:51]had a problem with the name of the Prophet they did not
[8:53]even believe in the message of the Prophet you know he is
[8:57]Eid and that incident where he was in the presence of ladies
[9:02]a nap Saddam allahi aleeh huh what did he read what did
[9:04]he say when he was seeing the head of al imam hussain
[9:08]ali salaam and he was striking it you know with a stick
[9:11]what did he say he revealed the true intentions of the Beni
[9:18]Omiya later a shocking EB burger and Shia do Jezza al has
[9:22]regime in what LSL I wish my ancestors at bed who are
[9:27]his ancestors are better the mushrikeen the leaders of the pagans because
[9:32]at bed the mushrikeen were defeated the pagans and the Muslims gained
[9:36]victory so he's like I wish my ancestors who got defeated at
[9:42]bed the Battle of bed during the prophet's time I wish they
[9:45]were here today to see how I took revenge from the family
[9:50]of the Prophet this is a man who has respect for the
[9:53]Prophet who says these lines and then what does he say lie
[9:59]Batoche immobile Maliki Fela khabar enjoy what our unison Hashem is the
[10:04]grandfather of the Prophet bani hashem is the family of the prophet
[10:09]he's like the family of the Prophet they played around they wanted
[10:12]kingdom and power said asked about on Jack what a lion is
[10:16]if there was no revelation it's all a game who's saying this
[10:19]is it son of Muhammad well at the time and the eyes
[10:25]of many simple Muslims he was the filipe of the Prophet so
[10:28]we see there was an active effort after the Prophet sallallahu aleyhi
[10:34]wanted to defame him and when we examined the biography of the
[10:40]Prophet we have to be aware of this tragic event that happened
[10:43]after the Prophet until today until today in our Muslim books from
[10:48]other schools of thought we see traces of that defamation look at
[10:56]our hadeeth books from other schools of thought books like mihari even
[11:00]yes which is considered the most authentic source for other schools of
[11:05]thought you'd be shocked at what you would find in some of
[11:08]these books of history books of ceará books of biography books of
[11:14]hadith you know they start when the Prophet was young and they
[11:17]tell you the story how his heart was taken out by a
[11:22]devil he was possessed sometimes he would have his wife I sure
[11:26]right on his back so she can go and see a game
[11:30]a match this is the greatest Messenger of God imagine him coming
[11:33]out carrying his wife you know on his back carrying her like
[11:38]a baby and she's watching a match who does this these were
[11:43]efforts to defame the Prophet you have hadiths you know in these
[11:47]hadith books that say the Prophet would stand in a public area
[11:51]and he would god forbid yearning this is not the Prophet that
[11:54]we follow but this is what Benny aumea did to defame the
[11:58]Prophet that he was under a spell there's a hadith in Bukhari
[12:05]that someone successfully put a spell on the Prophet under the spell
[12:09]of the magic and you have a number of such traditions so
[12:14]we know that we have a problem when it comes to the
[12:16]history of the Prophet we have some hadiths you know in these
[12:20]books that say the Prophet forgot some verses and so return a
[12:25]Jew and he added his own verse because the Shaitaan fooled him
[12:29]instead of thinking that this is jibra eel giving me the revelation
[12:33]instead of knowing that Shaitaan you know was giving him the revelation
[12:39]he thought it was Gibran and so he added a verse in
[12:40]the Quran then July 8 came down he rebuked in him and
[12:45]he had to apologize what kind of a prophet is this and
[12:48]these hadith still exists in our books is this respect for the
[12:54]holy prophet salallahu alaihe or when you look at some historical events
[12:58]like the issue of Benny or Eva that the Prophet massacred 950
[13:03]Jews is this accurate or no yes sister [Music] that same surah
[13:12]an edge tells us were my internal Hauer in Hua Allah y
[13:19]Anu ha anything the Prophet says his revelation from Allah yet you
[13:23]still find such hadiths and books so the first group that oppressed
[13:28]the Prophet in history was whom Muslims who claimed to be followers
[13:34]of the Prophet and this is the tragedy that we have now
[13:37]why did Benny Romania and some of these people defame the Prophet
[13:44]in this way what was their reason did they have an agenda
[13:48]there were several reasons no we will examine this in his biography
[13:54]we will examine the issue the massacre of Benny or even in
[14:00]depth and it's a historical fabrication that the Prophet killed 950 Jews
[14:05]and we'll examine the proofs why this is wrong so the biography
[14:09]that we have today is not the real biography of the Prophet
[14:14]we need to analyze it we need to intellectually dissect the prophet's
[14:17]life and see what is found in some of these books is
[14:22]this accurate or is this a misrepresentation of the prophet's life Satanic
[14:31]Verses yes that's the title of his book what he mentions and
[14:36]some of the things that he it's a devious book by the
[14:40]way but some of the things that he mentions in that book
[14:43]they're found in Muslim books and that's the problem yes they're found
[14:50]in Muslim books and as Muslims as true followers of the Holy
[14:54]Prophet we have to purify his biography from this nonsense from this
[14:59]defamation so what was the agenda of Benny Romania why did they
[15:03]Forge such fabrications and such hadith there were a number of reasons
[15:15]number one you will find that Yazeed and Marija they harbored this
[15:20]resentment towards the Prophet because the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa ali he
[15:25]brought this religion and many of their forefathers were killed you know
[15:31]at bed and some of these other events so they realized that
[15:35]in Mecca we had power as pagans we controlled society now this
[15:39]man came and he changed the social fabric and he brought this
[15:44]new religion and there's new there's a new power structure so they
[15:47]had this resentment towards the Prophet that's number one number two they
[15:52]wanted to justify their own position because if the Prophet is clearly
[15:56]infallible and he never makes a mistake and you're sitting in his
[16:03]seat representing the Prophet people will tell you wait a minute you
[16:08]Yazeed you mahalia you other Kahless you're making all these mistakes you're
[16:11]coming with all these sins how are you qualified to represent the
[16:14]Prophet what was their justification the Prophet himself used to make mistakes
[16:19]sometimes so if my prophet makes mistakes I can make mistakes I
[16:27]can sit in a seat and represent him it was an effort
[16:29]to justify their own wrong yes and these are efforts to justify
[16:51]them because see what's special about Imam Ali Allah's Salam when it
[16:53]comes to the caleb's a man and it was the only one
[17:00]from day one he never committed any vice all the others were
[17:03]pagans they worship the idols they would drink they would do all
[17:07]these vices so when you would tell them that they're like well
[17:12]the Prophet the same thing before his birth that before he became
[17:14]officially a messenger he would do these things see it's all an
[17:17]effort to justify they're wrong and to make themselves qualified they're like
[17:23]if the Prophet whom God chose had such a history we can
[17:28]have a similar history so it was really an effort to justify
[17:32]their own wrong the Benny Omega one reason why they forged these
[17:37]you know fake hadith about the Prophet and they would pay some
[17:42]companions to forge them is to justify their own position abhava enough
[17:49]for example he was definitely employed by the governments of this time
[17:55]to fabricate some hadiths another reason that we find here and this
[18:00]is a very important reason and this is a common theme when
[18:03]it comes to all of our science the science of hadith science
[18:08]of Islamic law after the holy prophet sallallahu alayhi wa la paz
[18:15]a ban on the recording of the hadith for about 100 years
[18:20]until the time of muhammad abdul aziz there was a ban on
[18:27]recording the hadith no one was allowed to record the hadith in
[18:30]fact they would punish the one who would write the hadith and
[18:33]documented the first and second caliphs after the Prophet according to Sony
[18:39]sources they gathered the hadith of the Prophet and they burned it
[18:46]why for what purpose their excuse their justification was that we don't
[18:50]want people to be busy with hadith and forget the Quran and
[18:53]confuse the two let people focus on the Quran so let's prevent
[18:57]and prohibit the people from recording the hadith that was their excuse
[19:02]now for a hundred years you had a gap nothing was really
[19:07]being recorded except some personal individual minor efforts now those people who
[19:13]came later to document the prophet's life to write his biography they
[19:18]had no sources they could only depend on one on oral transmissions
[19:23]the first book of sila that we have by eben is Haq
[19:32]will discuss that shortly came about 80 years after the Prophet 80
[19:37]years the first books of ceará really came about 80 years after
[19:42]the Prophet what in these 80 years they had no concrete hadiths
[19:47]to refer to historical evidence you would go and just ask people
[19:54]you know the progeny of the Sahaba the children of the Sahaba
[19:57]you know what did you hear from your parents it was all
[19:59]orally transmitted and that's that opened the door for all these fabrications
[20:04]because when you don't have something documented on paper you could easily
[20:09]change it give it a different version right with oral transmission you
[20:14]have a lot of changes have you ever heard of Chinese whispers
[20:20]right or they call it the game of telephone here you know
[20:22]in in one room even if you don't want to just play
[20:26]you really want to be accurate and this happens to you you
[20:30]say something to your friend your friend says it to someone else
[20:33]when it comes back to you and like oh my god you
[20:36]know you've got you guys changed what I said to you that's
[20:38]not what I said well imagine in 80 years you're relying on
[20:43]oral transmission how many changes happen to that and this created a
[20:47]challenge for those who try to write the biography of the Prophet
[20:53]because you didn't have anything that was written or documented so these
[20:58]were some reasons why until today we have fabrications in the life
[21:02]of the Prophet and the biography of the Prophet Benny Romania and
[21:08]their evil agenda and number two you had a gap with this
[21:15]ban on the hadith which lasted for a century after a century
[21:18]was this ban lifted and the people finally were able to write
[21:21]the hadith but after a century imagine how much you lost how
[21:28]many details you lost so that tells us that those early works
[21:31]on biography there's automatically an issue with them we can't take them
[21:35]you know at face value and accept everything in them we have
[21:42]to examine them analyze them your sister that bunny - bunny oh
[21:49]my you were neck to neck and there was a historical rivalry
[21:53]between them yes yes absolutely an Arabian society the bene Romanian Benny
[22:02]Hashem there were cousins and there's a long story to it how
[22:09]the rivalry started but the Benny Hashem will were always just and
[22:14]upright Benny Romania because of their jealousy because many Hashem the family
[22:19]of the Prophet they had a very high social status in Mecca
[22:24]the Benny Romania despised them for that yes the jealousy yes absolutely
[22:30]it was passed down this was one factor definitely it was the
[22:35]jealousy from the island bait from the Prophet from imam ali radiyaallah
[22:42]you know one of the main reasons why many of those companions
[22:44]did not accept the leadership of imam mahdi was this jealousy so
[22:48]yes it was passed down from generation to another and then you
[22:52]had these different factors that we also mentioned yes brother we will
[23:16]discuss that in our next course when we briefly talk about the
[23:23]prophets fathers and grandfathers were they believers in God or were they
[23:28]idol worshipers because many Muslims until today believe that they were idol
[23:32]worshipers right we will discuss that in sha allah so we see
[23:38]that we have these challenges when it came to the life of
[23:41]the Prophet and the biography at the same time during these decades
[23:44]that 100 years you had the influence of other religions for example
[23:51]you had the Jewish influence gobble gobble gobble Akbar was original a
[23:57]Jewish man who had a lot of you know knowledge of the
[24:02]Bible of the of the Old Testament and he would spread his
[24:08]own hadiths his own stories and interestingly while the average Muslim was
[24:12]banned from recording and discussing the hadith Kabbalah had his freedom especially
[24:18]the second set Eva he gave him so much freedom to you
[24:26]know spread his stories and to spread his ideas in Muslim society
[24:29]this had a very negative impact on how Muslims came to see
[24:35]the holy prophet sallallahu alayhi wa abdullah bin salam was another man
[24:41]of Jewish origins who would spread hadith that would actually defame the
[24:46]prophets of God and including the Holy Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa
[24:50]sallam them in our books Calabar and Abdullah bin Salam are just
[25:02]two examples they were given the freedom to disseminate their views and
[25:10]spread their teachings so when you banned the hadith and these people
[25:14]have their freedom and Benny Omiya are working on their own agenda
[25:19]what do you expect really do you expect such a pure serie
[25:21]and biography of the holy prophet sallallahu alayhi wa and hence honestly
[25:25]until this very day we don't have an accurate biography of the
[25:29]Prophet we don't something that is so comprehensive and accurate that we
[25:36]can fully trust we don't have because of these circumstances nonetheless with
[25:46]all these challenges the most documented personality in history is the Holy
[25:50]Prophet peace be upon him a man said fourteen centuries ago everything
[25:57]about him was documented how he would walk how would he would
[26:00]speak how he would give a sermon how he would live amongst
[26:06]his companions him going toward him making peace treaties really no figure
[26:10]in history in that era was as documented as the holy prophet
[26:16]sallallahu alayhi wa he's the most documented figure in history and that's
[26:21]truly amazing you know one of the sermons of the Prophet hot
[26:27]button nadir he gave a sermon before appointing Imam Ali alehissalaam it
[26:30]was a one-hour sermon one hour and probably based on my research
[26:39]the longest sermon the Prophet ever gave one hour under the hot
[26:44]Sun I'm glad you're home every word of it is documented do
[26:48]you have something similar to that were a figure who lived a
[26:53]thousand four hundred years ago gave a speech and every word of
[26:56]it was preserved this is one of the blessings of Allah subhana
[27:02]WA Ta'ala that so many details about the prophet's life survived until
[27:07]today and Allah subhana WA Ta'ala really blessed this Muslim Ummah by
[27:13]giving us so much information about the prophet's life now when we
[27:18]talk about the biography of the Prophet while there were issues and
[27:23]challenges yet we can reconstruct the prophets life and biography in several
[27:31]ways first of all we have the Imams of Allen bade peace
[27:35]be upon them who would give us a lot of details about
[27:41]the prophet's life yes we don't have a shia biography why because
[27:45]at that time the Shia were heavily persecuted they did not have
[27:50]the freedom to go and write about the prophet's life they were
[27:53]monitored and persecuted by the government's so really you don't have a
[27:57]shia sierra book is she a biography book from those times they
[28:04]were not given that opportunity secondly you really needed a lot of
[28:09]resources because you had to go travel gather the clues find documents
[28:13]this required a lot of money and efforts and that's why you'll
[28:20]find the major historians who wrote the biography of the Prophet they
[28:24]were employed by who by the governments of their time like Haroon
[28:27]Rashid and Abbasi he was not Rashid he was not guided Harun
[28:33]an ambassador's Abbasid caliph he would employ historians some of them have
[28:36]written the biography for us he would give them the money and
[28:40]the support and he would tell them write the biography of the
[28:43]Prophet of course according to their own perspective but for the followers
[28:47]of a debate the governments would persecute them and that's why you
[28:51]don't have a full Shia biography of the Prophet because the Shias
[28:57]were heavily persecuted so what we have is like a jigsaw puzzle
[29:00]we have to fill in the pieces we examine these books of
[29:06]ceará that we have anything that's compatible with the Quran would be
[29:11]a hadith of a Hillel bait with the character of the Prophet
[29:14]we accept because the Prophet he himself says in a number of
[29:20]hadith he says whatever you hear about me if it's compatible with
[29:24]the book of God accept it if it's not then rejected and
[29:31]he warned the Prophet peace be upon him in our hadith books
[29:33]even the Sunnah hadith books there are hadiths that say the Prophet
[29:37]warned he forewarned that after me so many Liars will come Tector
[29:43]all al-kitab so many Liars will come and they will Forge hadith
[29:52]so be careful even a bus he has an interesting hadith he
[29:56]says if you ever hear me talking about the Prophet and giving
[30:01]you details if you find that it contradicts the principles of the
[30:05]Quran and it's something that people find unacceptable then know that I
[30:10]am lying in other words he's telling us that there's nothing about
[30:14]the prophet's life that's immoral that's unacceptable to society so if you
[30:19]find a hadith that is difficult for society to accept its defaming
[30:27]the Prophet it's contradicting the principles of Quran automatically know that what
[30:31]this is a false hadith so the Imams of any debate peace
[30:37]be upon them they really contrary to giving us a picture of
[30:42]the prophet's life but we have to fill in the pieces it's
[30:43]a it's a big puzzle we have to solve the puzzle we
[30:48]have to look at every segment of the prophets life first see
[30:51]what exists in these biographies and then we have to see is
[30:58]this contradictory or not does that does this fit with the Quran
[31:01]or not does this fit with the personality of the Prophet or
[31:04]not that gives us a better understanding of the prophets life now
[31:11]what are the major works of Silla that we have today by
[31:15]far the most famous source of biography is ibanez hawk but that
[31:23]wasn't the first one before him the first person who formally put
[31:29]together a biography for the Prophet who came by compiled a biography
[31:34]was a man by the name of Ottawa edna's zubayr a banana
[31:41]on the famous zoo Bay this is his son the prophet's cousin
[31:43]so he's a distant relative to the Prophet now he died in
[31:46]the year 92 after the hijra so we're talking about a century
[31:52]after the Prophet almost a century this was the first work of
[31:56]biography of ceará on the prophet's life now his work did not
[32:00]survive in history we know that he authored a biography but it
[32:06]got lost in history today we cannot find his book we don't
[32:09]have access to it but this was the earliest source on the
[32:15]prophet's life we had books of hadith that talked about some aspects
[32:18]of the prophet's life but this was an effort solely to give
[32:23]us an idea of the prophet's life it was a work of
[32:25]biography so this is one work another more important source as even
[32:33]as hot whenever you examine the prophet's life the history of the
[32:38]prophet the seal and the biography the two most famous names are
[32:42]who happiness hat and who a bin Hasaan now even is Haq
[32:49]he came about eight decades after the Prophet he lived in the
[32:54]city of Medina he had this passion to record everything about the
[32:58]prophet's life he would go to the people of medina he would
[33:02]ask them what did you hear from your parents about the Prophet
[33:04]those who lived with the Prophet give me details he would even
[33:12]travel to various cities to interview people who had met the Prophet
[33:16]or their parents had met the Prophet to learn about the prophet's
[33:19]life and he compiled a book that was about 15 big volumes
[33:26]at the time this was you know at the time a very
[33:29]very big effort so even as Hawk is the first one who
[33:35]really compiled a comprehensive Selah and biography on the prophet's life yes
[33:44]when the Imam and his salaam went into labor before he went
[33:54]into Arabia we already had hadith words the previous Imams of a
[34:01]little bait whatever we needed to know they gave it to us
[34:04]some things did get lost in history but the most important aspects
[34:08]of Islamic knowledge were passed down to us for example in the
[34:14]book of coffee so this is different with the challenge that we
[34:18]see after the prophet's life because there was a ban on the
[34:23]recording of the hadith so I've been his hawk he compiled this
[34:26]huge work but did it survive in history no it didn't why
[34:30]because it was 10 to 15 volumes remember at the time there
[34:36]was no paper that was easily accessible and you couldn't just make
[34:39]copies of it you had to have a scribe who would sit
[34:43]there and write every word in every sentence and carrying that was
[34:46]just burdensome so it was something that the average person would not
[34:51]have access to what happened is one of his indirect students who
[34:58]is eben Hisham now eben is hawk what year did he pass
[35:01]away he died in the year 150 Hajj Allah he was born
[35:07]around year 85 so he was born about eight decades after the
[35:11]profit he lived for about 70 years until the year 150 after
[35:15]the hijra so one and a half centuries after the profit now
[35:21]there was a man by the name of eben Hashim Eponine Shah
[35:28]was a famous historian what he did he took the Cielo of
[35:31]eben is Hawk and he summarized it and the Serie of eben
[35:38]is hawk that we have today is not the original serie that
[35:41]he compiled the 10 to 15 volumes that got lost in history
[35:44]what survived until today the work of eben Hisham ibn Hisham took
[35:53]this big book he realized it's too big it's full of details
[35:56]he summarized it for us he deleted a lot of details he
[36:01]made some additions here and there so the book of Syria that
[36:06]we have from Ibanez Hawk was actually edited by eben Hashanah so
[36:09]the two biggest names in the biography of the Prophet the seal
[36:15]of the Prophet our eben is hot and Venetian but we don't
[36:18]have the actual work of ibanez hawk what survived is the addition
[36:30]of who of a Benicia who apenas ha it been Hashem so
[36:34]he summarized the he summarized the Serie of the holy prophet sallallahu
[36:42]alehiwassallaam it's attributed to a bin Hasaan but it's really for eben
[36:46]his Hawk so it's just the seal of the prophet sallallaahu I
[36:50]do you money yeah yeah we have it today I've been a
[36:52]hashem sila it survives it's just the serie of the prophet sallallahu
[36:55]alayhi wa so he is the one who summarized to us the
[37:00]book of eben is hot now I don't know what was the
[37:04]original title of the book of Venice hot because it did not
[37:07]really survive in history but it been Hashem he passed it to
[37:12]us so today if you want to find this book it's just
[37:13]you know called C lat eben Hashanah that's the short for it
[37:18]if you're looking for it online or if want to buy it
[37:21]and it's an Arabic of course some parts of it have been
[37:23]or all of it I think has been translated into English so
[37:25]if you can just look up see let's even Hisham you will
[37:30]find the book and it's also called sila turban his hat as
[37:33]well because it's the same he just summarized it and he edits
[37:36]it for us now in Finnish I'm he died in the year
[37:43]218 so we're talking about two centuries after the Prophet now there
[37:47]were other attempts so there were seven other sealers on the prophet's
[37:52]life but they never made it in history he also got lost
[37:55]in history now the third more fame the third most famous serie
[38:01]is one that was offered by eben sad in his book a
[38:04]Baba cot and Cobra they call it a bucket a bin saud
[38:08]or you can just say for short see lat Vincent the biography
[38:14]of in son Evan sad died in the year 230 after Hitler
[38:20]so this is also one of the important works on the prophet's
[38:23]life and then you have a more recent one by the name
[38:29]of a body he has a book on the history of kings
[38:31]and rulers and in that he also analyzes a lot of the
[38:38]prophets biography and you'll find many scholars or speakers referring to table
[38:42]ikot even sat in speaking about the prophet's life he died in
[38:46]the year 923 so about 500 years ago so these are the
[38:54]main works of biography on the prophet's life so the first one
[38:59]who really compiled something comprehensive was eben is hot but it did
[39:02]not survive through history what survived was the summary of eben Hashanah
[39:08]so the most important book of silla that we have today is
[39:13]the book by a venetian called seal at seven Isha so this
[39:17]is the brought the biography of the Prophet that we have okay
[39:26]that's a good question now it is commonly known that they are
[39:34]of the Adesanya however eben is Haq if you go to the
[39:38]literalist sunnis like the ham bunnies doha hobbies they don't like it
[39:42]in his heart and his biography I made a bet Hamburg the
[39:47]leader of the Hungary school of thought he had an issue with
[39:49]a lot of things that have been his heart would narrate some
[39:52]of them were valid some of his observations but some of them
[39:57]know and they accused him of being a Shia so they accused
[40:04]even his hog of being Shia why for two reasons the primary
[40:07]reason is because sometimes he mentions some details about some of those
[40:13]hanifa the early caliphs that they did not like they're like wait
[40:16]a minute you're exposing these caylor's where did you get this from
[40:21]since they did not like that they rejected it and they accused
[40:24]him of being a Shia and wanted he was another historian who
[40:30]wrote biographies of the Prophet Harun and a bossy employed and Wapiti
[40:35]also because they had an issue of some of with the some
[40:39]of the things he would write they accused him of being a
[40:45]Shia now we really don't know what the beliefs of Benes hawk
[40:49]were he is compared to some others who were extreme towards and
[40:54]his mates he was definitely moderate he was not anti-shia now whether
[40:58]he was Shia or not that's subject to interpretation some people might
[41:03]consider him close to the Shias some people just consider him to
[41:05]be a Sunni but not an extreme Sunni he was a moderate
[41:09]Sunni but some have accused him throughout history of being dissing so
[41:16]what so one of them was that he exposed some of the
[41:19]Caleb's the other he would document some of the virtues of Imam
[41:22]Ali that they didn't like so they really don't have an equivalent
[41:32]what they did is they looked at Bukhari Muslim term iffy these
[41:37]hadith books and they tried to give a picture of the prophet's
[41:41]life based on the hadith and their books so it's nothing comprehensive
[41:46]they're forced you know at the end of the day to accept
[41:51]some of a bonus hearts works because the hadith books are not
[41:55]biographies they're about laws rulings different events and there's a lot of
[41:59]biography in them like mihari it does have some biography but it's
[42:02]not a book of biography it's a hadith book so it's a
[42:07]book of what the Prophet said what he taught what he preached
[42:11]but not necessarily his life in chronological order they've been it's hot
[42:15]what he did with his biography he examined the life of the
[42:26]Prophet in a chronological order it does have some of it um
[42:32]he deleted some of them of course may be either due to
[42:37]Tapia or due to you know he wanted to summarize it and
[42:42]be brief about it but yes there were some things that were
[42:46]deleted and Tapia is definitely one of the reasons and wanted he
[42:50]he some also considered him to be Shia he was in the
[42:55]second to the third centuries so during the time of an imam
[42:58]asada and an imam in Cotham he was employed by Haroon and
[43:04]Abbasi to write the serie of the Prophet now his work the
[43:08]way that he wrote it did not survive are some parts of
[43:14]it through his students did survive so we do have some instances
[43:18]and accounts from the work of Wapiti but you'll find that those
[43:23]strict soudanese let's say they don't accept it because they consider them
[43:26]to be a Shia okay exactly so what are our sources so
[43:35]number one we look at these biographies like urban is hot a
[43:41]bin Hasaan we examined them if there are details in them that
[43:45]fit the Quran they fit the character of the prophet that we
[43:51]know his morality we accept them that's fine but anything dubious we
[43:56]do research we go in the hadith of a debate is there
[43:59]any clues are there any clues in the narrations of any debate
[44:04]about this incident did it really happen the way you know that
[44:07]even in sham narrates it or some of these historians narrate it
[44:10]or not so that's why it's a challenge for us because we
[44:15]have to put the pieces together so each event we analyze it
[44:20]is there any are there any contradictions in there because when you
[44:23]examine some of these events even narrated by eben is hot and
[44:26]eben and Sean there are many contradictions in them if you simply
[44:28]analyze them you realize there are contradictions in them like this the
[44:32]massacre of Beni over the way I've been is hot narrator it's
[44:38]full of contradictions we can't accept it so we have to use
[44:41]the power of reason we have to use historical analysis to give
[44:47]a better picture now today today there are Shia biography books today
[44:51]but we don't have any early sources what we have is basically
[44:54]the Quran the verses of the Quran the tafseer the hadith of
[44:59]a debate and these serie books you put them all together and
[45:01]you get a biography book the most comprehensive biography book that we
[45:06]have today is Asahi Mencia at Entebbe it's 35 volumes by a
[45:14]spy assayer Jaffa and harmony it's 35 volume volumes on the life
[45:18]of the Prophet so this is what he does in this book
[45:21]and a lot of what we will discuss will be based on
[45:23]this book it's an Arabic Asahi Mencia at Entebbe son Allah Allah
[45:30]you are so what's authentic from the seer of the Prophet this
[45:34]was let's written in the last decade this is recent he's still
[45:38]alive the author is still alive say Jaffa and Amelie he lives
[45:46]in Lebanon sage a former Tamil and yes he's also known as
[45:49]a sage a former Tala I know this has not been translated
[45:55]into English it should be because it's a great work it's full
[45:58]of sources references so he starts from day one he analyzes the
[46:01]prophet's life what does in Venice hat say what does emanation say
[46:03]the Quran the hadith of an inmate and he gives us an
[46:08]analysis about that event and that stage in the prophets life so
[46:11]this is the most comprehensive work that we have we have some
[46:17]small biographies here and there but this is 35 volumes so it's
[46:19]huge and there's a lot of analysis in it so this is
[46:24]an overview of the biographies that we have on the prophet's life
[46:29]now briefly before next week we enter into the prophet's life and
[46:35]we examine the details from birth until he became a messenger and
[46:39]afterwards let's briefly just examine the state of the arabian peninsula before
[46:46]the Prophet was born Arabia was this isolated region primarily because of
[46:54]its geography it's a desert there is no permanent River there like
[47:00]in Egypt you have the Nile in Iraq you have the tigress
[47:02]or Euphrates there were civilizations in Egypt because of the river there
[47:08]were civilizations in Babylon Iraq because of the rivers but not in
[47:14]the Arabian Peninsula why because most of the people were nomads rainfall
[47:19]was scarce you did not have really any rivers it's a very
[47:27]rugged terrain mountains and stones and rocks so it's difficult to build
[47:31]this city Mecca was the most important city but around make all
[47:35]you had was veterans and nomads who would always change their location
[47:42]going from one place to another place just you know foraging for
[47:46]food and looking for water so because they were isolated they were
[47:51]relatively safe from the inn Florence's of the major empires of the
[47:56]time what were the two major empires of the time the Roman
[48:02]civilization or Empire and the Persian Empire the Persian and the Roman
[48:07]empires they're like these Arabs in their backward societies in the desert
[48:11]there's no civilization there are no big cities we don't care about
[48:15]them we're not interested in them and hence the Arabs were largely
[48:18]isolated they were not even influenced by their beliefs they had their
[48:22]own pagan practices and the Persians were not interested and in spreading
[48:27]their religion there the Romans were not interested in them nobody was
[48:31]interested in them and that's why they were they were not really
[48:36]aware of all these ideas and beliefs out there they just had
[48:40]their basic beliefs and ideas so this was the state of the
[48:44]Arabian Peninsula and by the way many people like some Jews they
[48:51]came to the Arabian Peninsula fleeing the persecution of the Roman Empire
[48:57]because the Romans were Christians they persecuted the Jews some of them
[49:02]had to flee Palestine and the Holy Lands some of them settled
[49:06]where any Arab around the city of Medina why did they choose
[49:09]Medina to settle there so yes they came to Arabia because Arabia
[49:15]was safe for them from those empires who would persecute them and
[49:21]kill them but why specifically Medina does anyone know it was mentioned
[49:27]in the Torah that the final Messenger of God would emerge from
[49:32]the mountains of Medina that's why they came and settled there and
[49:39]the Quran in one verse tells us that whenever the Jews around
[49:44]Medina they would be attacked persecuted the Arab pagans would give them
[49:50]a hard time what would they say they would say have patience
[49:53]have patience the prophet will come we're waiting for him and we'll
[50:01]gain victory that gave them patience that's why the Quran says they
[50:04]knew the messenger like they knew their own fathers because all the
[50:09]descriptions of the Prophet were mentioned in the Torah I'm not home
[50:15]or their fathers their sons or their fathers they knew the Prophet
[50:20]very well but what happened when the Prophet came to Medina as
[50:23]we shall see in the prophets life for two reasons they rejected
[50:27]him number one they thought that the final Messenger of God would
[50:36]be from their lineage from the lineage of prophetess hock he would
[50:40]be from that line once they realized he's an Arab from the
[50:44]line of his mayan they're like no no no we're not going
[50:49]to follow him that's number one number two the Jews they were
[50:53]influential in Medina the economy was in their hands they were prominent
[50:57]when the Prophet came to Medina and people started surrounding the Prophet
[51:02]and he became important he took the spotlight from them and the
[51:05]spotlight became on him they didn't like that either for so for
[51:10]these two primary reasons they started fighting the Prophet and they rejected
[51:14]his message except a few who embraced the religion of Islam so
[51:18]we see that the Jewish people they came to Arabia in that
[51:25]time in that era fleeing the persecution and waiting for the Messenger
[51:28]of God now Mikkel was very important at that time why because
[51:32]it housed the Kaaba the symbolic house of God who is the
[51:39]one who built the Kaaba adam alayhis-salam abraham rebuilt it and he
[51:45]called the people to do the Hajj so Mecca was an important
[51:49]economic and religious center all these pilgrims would flock to Mecca to
[51:55]do their pilgrimage even the non-arabs Hindus would come and they would
[51:59]do the Hajj in Mecca yes they would consider the Kappa holy
[52:02]there's a story to it some Persians would come some people from
[52:08]you know Eastern Rome would come so it was an important financial
[52:12]and religious center and the Arabs loved Mecca why because they made
[52:18]money it gives them prestige it gave them religious prominence so the
[52:23]question as people would do good image before Islam there was a
[52:29]hush like we have that now some would call those statues and
[52:34]move their idols what about for the people that were from so
[52:45]the Hajj in Arabia was a common practice that nearly all Arab
[52:49]tribes would come to the Hajj and they would do the Hajj
[52:51]each tribe in their own way of course but they had adulterated
[52:57]the Hajj they had changed it corrupted it they would you know
[53:01]come seek the blessings of their idols some of their women would
[53:04]come naked going around the Kaaba so each tribe had their own
[53:10]rituals but the idea of the Hajj that you come to the
[53:12]house of God and you worship God now they worshiped God and
[53:17]the idols they ascribed partners to God they worship the idols and
[53:20]they also worshiped Allah Subhan Allah the Arabs by the way they
[53:22]believed in Allah but what they did is they just added idols
[53:26]and they worship the idols as well so yes the pilgrimage did
[53:30]exist but not the same Hajj that Prophet Ibrahim called - they
[53:34]had changed it throughout the centuries and throughout the ages so mikkel
[53:37]was very prominent there was a very important city and they came
[53:43]to do the Hajj in the city of Mecca now what happened
[53:45]is and will conclude with this some regional areas at the time
[53:53]they grew jealous of Mecca all these tribes they're going to make
[53:56]and when you go to the hide you spend money right so
[53:59]they realized you know what let's make our own Kaaba there was
[54:03]a king a ruler in Yemen south of Mecca by the name
[54:12]of Abraha abraha was Christian ruler who was dispatched by the Roman
[54:17]Christian Emperor because the Christians were persecuted in Yemen in a long
[54:22]story he became the ruler nagashi the just ruler of Abyssinia had
[54:27]asked Abraha to go to Yemen to save the Christians he did
[54:32]that but then he took power and then he's started his own
[54:38]you know persecution Abraha realized these arabs backward arabs they have this
[54:44]cabin why don't I make something fancier than the camera so he
[54:49]built the fanciest most beautiful house of worship in Yemen which was
[54:55]supposed to compete with the cabin I know it's been destroyed and
[55:04]demolished so he created that and he invited all nations come and
[55:08]do Hajj here people didn't listen to him most people were still
[55:12]going to make care to that humble looking Chava and they would
[55:17]just do the Hajj there he got really upset but then what
[55:21]really you know caused him to explode was that some silly Arabs
[55:29]they went into that temple that he made and they desecrated it
[55:33]somehow did say they burned it burnt some places of it some
[55:37]say they defecated in it a Buddha had became furious he's like
[55:42]you do that to my house of worship I'm going to destroy
[55:45]the Kaaba so he mobilizes a huge army towards Mecca and he
[55:53]brings elephants with him as well remember his origin was he came
[55:59]through Abyssinia so he probably brought those you know big African elephants
[56:05]and they marched towards Mecca a messenger came to Abdul Muttalib the
[56:10]grandfather of the Prophet this was before the Prophet was born he
[56:13]came to Abdul Muttalib and he told him look Abraha has mobilized
[56:18]a huge army and they're coming to Mecca to destroy the Kaaba
[56:22]just know that he meets na Joshi and also Abraha and he
[56:32]makes one request because what he did Abraha he had sent some
[56:36]of his army members they went and they looted the people of
[56:42]Mecca they looted their camels their precious belongings had two hundred camels
[56:47]remember a one camel back then was very expensive it was very
[56:52]expensive so two hundred camels was like everything that many Hashem literally
[56:57]owned it goes to the king and he complains they tell him
[57:05]what's your complaint they thought he's here to negotiate you know don't
[57:08]desecrate the Kaaba this is the house of God he didn't mention
[57:11]the cabin he told them I'm here give me my two hundred
[57:16]camels back according to one historical account he's like I had respect
[57:21]for you I've done a month on it you know I've heard
[57:25]about you even looking at your glorious face I had a lot
[57:28]of respect for you but now that you came and you asked
[57:32]for your camels and you didn't even tell me to not destroy
[57:34]the Kaaba I've changed my opinion on you what did I do
[57:39]not let him tell him he made his famous statement he told
[57:45]him I am the Lord or the owner of the camel and
[57:48]the Kaaba the house has its own Lord Abdul Muttalib was inspired
[57:54]by Allah so we know whether it's through divine inspiration through revelation
[57:59]he was inspired by God that God will protect the cabin don't
[58:03]do anything God will protect the camera so his army marches towards
[58:07]Mecca with those elephants the private Abdul Muttalib told the people of
[58:13]Mecca go and hide let's go in these valleys and mountains and
[58:17]hide and let's see what happens as they go into those valleys
[58:24]and caves and they're hiding the army of Abraha is now reaching
[58:29]the Kaaba the people of Mecca they see a black cloud coming
[58:33]they tell I've been looking if this black ominous cloud is coming
[58:38]he's like ok that's a good sign Allah is responding so when
[58:44]those soldiers gather it turns out that this black cloud was not
[58:48]a cloud it was small birds called a Bible in Arabic small
[58:52]birds each one carrying three stones - with its claws and one
[58:58]with its beak - three stones tens or hundreds of thousands of
[59:05]them came and they rained down these stones on Abraha and the
[59:10]elephants and the soldiers now the elephants that the hadith says they
[59:14]refused to go to Mecca Abraha would push them they would refuse
[59:17]but when he would turn them towards Yemen they would quickly want
[59:23]to move Subhan Allah even the elephants you know knew something was
[59:27]going to happen so allah subhana tera decimated them and we have
[59:30]so little feet smell of manna rahim alum Tariq a fire a
[59:35]bouquet bells hobble field do you not see what your Lord did
[59:38]with the people of the elephant and then alas planetary missions in
[59:44]this short chapter how he destroyed them so this year was so
[59:48]significant it was such a big victory for the family of bani
[59:52]hashem for the arabs who want to defend the Kaabah that it
[59:57]was known to be our Millfield the year of the elephant because
[60:01]remember back then they didn't have calendars you know years so and
[60:07]so they did not have years for them to document their events
[60:10]they would go by major events so that year came to be
[60:15]known as the year of the elephant and that was the year
[60:18]that the holy prophet muhammad sallallahu alehiwassallaam us illallah muhammadan Chawla will
