Either a slave of one who is worthy or a free spirit in this world

I have not risen to pursue power or spread mischief, nor to cause corruption or injustice. Rather, I have risen to call for reform in the nation of my grandfather (PBUH). I want to enjoin virtue and proscribe vice. He who acquiesces in acceptance of me for the sake of righteousness, so be it, for Allah is the owner of righteousness. He who repudiates this, then I shall exercise patience until Allah judges between me and these people; He is the best of Judges.”

These words have been uttered by an immaculate, purified tongue, as an advice and reminder to his brother Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiya in a testament addressed to him.

Imam Hussein has not risen, trailing behind him women and children to seize power. He has risen for true and noble goals, framed with great human values, from which we have learnt lessons of life.
Until this day, the uprising has been a conflict between Right and Wrong; between high human values, and those of the age of darkness.

The Ashoura Cause is far from being one of a mere revolt! That is, the great man who has risen for the sake of reform, Islam and peace, rejecting to pay allegiance to an ill-natured drunkard, a perpetrator of every kind of vile and loathsome deeds, that great man’s aim has been nothing but to liberate his society from the corruption and tyranny of its ruler, for without liberty, one is unable to find or understand himself.

Hence, the slogan of Imam Hussain in the face of his enemies, the slogan of emancipation from humiliation, slavery, oppression, obsolete values, tyranny and injustice: “if you do not believe in any religion, nor fear the day of resurrection, then be free in this life”. In other words, the Imam is saying to them if they do not want to be subjects of one who is worthy, then they should not be subjects of tyranny and debauchery; they should be free!
