Imam Hasan Mujtaba (as) said, “O Abdullah [bin Ja’far], how can a believer be a believer while he is unhappy with his destiny and thinks his situation isn’t good, when the ruler over him (determining his destiny) is God?” [Kafi, vol. 2, p. 62] How can a believer be a believer and not be satisfied with his destiny? He thinks his situation is bad and says, “I’m not in a good place!” Who has destined this for you? “When the ruler over him (determining his destiny) is God!” You are not a believer if you object to your destiny. Who has determined this for you?
“How can a believer be a believer while he is unhappy with his destiny and thinks his situation isn’t good?” Do you know what great wisdom is behind what has been designed for you?! The One Who loves you has designed these. So be satisfied! The tradition continues on to say, “I [Imam Hasan] guarantee that if there is nothing but satisfaction with one’s divine destiny in one’s heart, whatever he prays for will be answered.” His prayers will be answered.
Another tradition talks about when you feel satisfied and say, “God, I’m satisfied. Everything is perfect. Thank God.” The tradition says this is a good time to pray. Now you’re in a good mood. What do you want? Having a good spiritual mood means being satisfied and not complaining. Being thankful. Be satisfied and then pray, “I’m satisfied. God, everything is fine.” Imam Hasan (as) said, “I guarantee that if there is nothing but satisfaction in one’s heart, whatever he prays for will be answered.”
