Imam as-Sadiq (A.S) narrates that: “one who recites this supplication for 40 mornings; he will be accounted amongst the helpers of Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s). And if he happens to die before the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s), Allah will raise him up from his rave so that he may assist the Holy Imam (a.t.f.s). For every word that he recites in this supplication, Allah will grant him 1000 good deeds and will erase from his scroll of deeds 1000 sins”.

As the title suggests, this supplication is of allegiance (ahad) to the Holy Imam (a.t.f.s). Its recitation every morning ensures the renewal of this covenant. The reciter finds himself under the leadership of Imam (a.t.f.s).
The supplicant beseeches Allah SWT to include him among the helpers and aides of Imam (a.t.f.s) and to grant him the opportunity to attain martyrdom in his presence. Also, he requests Allah SWT that should he die before the reappearance of Imam (a.t.f.s), Allah SWT should raise him up from his grave so that he may assist him (a.t.f.s) in his mission.

There is a fervent appeal to Allah SWT to grant him the honour of seeing Imam (a.t.f.s). In this supplication, there is also an acknowledgement that the difficulties of this nation can be solved only by the reappearance of Imam (a.t.f.s) and that believers see it as being close while others deem it to be distant. Shaykh Tusi says, in his book Misbah, that Imam Hassan bin Ali Al Askari (A.S) wrote this supplication for Abu Muhammad who requested him to teach him the proper way of reciting Salawat. Allama Majlisi has mentioned this Dua on the authority of Ibn Babawayh who confidently says that, there is no difficulty or problem that this Dua does not solve.

The Merciful Allah is beseeched in the name of and for the sake of the Holy Prophet and his Ahlul-Bayt (peace be upon them all) who are amongst the best human beings in status with Allah SWT. It is also known as "quick-fulfillment-of-all-legitimate-desires" supplication.

This Surah was revealed in Makkah and has 11 verses. It is narrated from the holy Prophet (S) that Allah (SWT) is pleased with a person who recites this Surah. If recited together with name of a person who has gone missing, he will return home safe and sound. If something is forgotten somewhere by mistake, the recitation of this Surah keeps its safe until you get it back. Insha'Allah.

It is related in the book "Musbah" that the best time for reading this prayer is after the morning nafila prayer. Another tradition by Allama Majlisi states this dua is the 'taqeeb' of the morning prayer. The supplication of dawn is one of those soul-elevating prayers to the Almighty, which reflect the sublimity, piety, and high literary standard of Imam Ali's (A) style and diction. Dawn is the best time of prayer, repentance and invocation of the sustainer of the
universe, when the doors of the heavens are opened and all creatures receive their sustenance from Him. It is a privilege of the Muslims to be commanded to stand up in all humility before their Maker everyday, at the first streak of dawn: to glorify their Lord and Master and to beg of Him not only material but also spiritual sustenance.

So particular was Imam Ali (A) about prayers at dawn that on his death-bed he called upon the red glow of the morning to bear witness that never in his entire life had morning appeared in the sky to find him sleeping. May his followers try to emulate his radiant example.

We as followers of Imam Mahdi (AJTF) will have to make decision in our own selves and give sincere replies on how sincere we are...
Are our acts and character satisfactory for the Imam? Are we sincere with his holy being? Are we not making the mistake of regarding ourselves on self-made rank of piety? Are other believers satisfied with me? Have we fulfilled the right of Imam (AS) and consumed lawful sustenance? Are we lamenting his health and well being? Do we illuminate every gathering with his mention? Indeed, we will have to take our account that how much we love our Imam. Can we fully dedicate ourselves to that infallible? We would have to evaluate our days and nights, that our worship is not devoid of his remembrance? Is there some pain of his separation in our hearts? Revenger of Karbala sheds tears of blood...how restless he is! Do we share this distress of his?!
