[0:05]I begin in the name of the almighty God the compassionate the
[0:09]merciful the one who has created everything in utmost Perfection and May
[0:17]the peace and blessings of the almighty God be upon his pure
[0:22]and beloved messenger the peak of his creation the symbol of humanity
[0:27]the holy prophet Muhammad s and his Immaculate progeny of the peace
[0:41]be upon them especially the leader of our time the awaited Savior
[0:47]Al IM Al M may God hasten his re reappearance and make
[0:53]us all amongst his sincere and dedicated servants the holy prophet Muhammad
[1:01]s in a States all of you are Shepherds and all of
[1:16]you are responsible for your her this is an invitation from the
[1:23]holy prophet peace be upon him to every Muslim and in fact
[1:27]to every human being to take the initi itive to step up
[1:35]to the plate and be as an active leader in society Allah
[1:38]subh and the Holy Quran also makes this invitation raise to the
[1:49]mercy of your lord what does that mean when Allah is inviting
[1:56]us to AAS Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is demanding that we effectively
[2:01]become leaders because that's what leaders are they take the initiative they
[2:07]always race to goodness in another verse Allah subhana waala States compete
[2:18]this life is a world of competition positive constructive competition compete be
[2:27]leaders come forward Progressive societies success successful societies are those societies which
[2:36]produce successful leaders and societies which are blessed with successful leaders they
[2:47]Advance forward they achieve progress It's a beautiful relationship between a successful
[2:54]society and successful leaders our community especially nowadays are in dire needs
[3:06]are in dire need of many leaders Progressive leaders who can lift
[3:10]our societies and bring our societies forward our institutions our cultural institutions
[3:18]especially our religious institutions our educational institutions in society all need effective
[3:27]leaders leaders whom the Community can interact with whom the community elects
[3:35]unfortunately when you examine many of our institutions you find they're not
[3:39]they're not Democratic institutions this is a problem that we have why
[3:44]is it that we live in a democratic country but when it
[3:48]comes to our institutions we see there's no democracy we see that
[3:55]we stick to the chair we're not willing to let go we're
[3:58]not willing to make room for our youngsters for the new generation
[4:04]we're not giving them a role in our society and this is
[4:11]a huge challenge that our community is facing today we have many
[4:15]bright leaders in our society but the problem is and here's my
[4:18]challenge for you tonight for all of our leaders in our society
[4:25]whether you are a community activist whether you are a lawyer a
[4:30]doctor an engineer you run a charitable organization my challenge for you
[4:37]tonight is this if you want to serve Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[4:44]and take your community forward and give back to your community you
[4:49]know who's a successful leader a successful leader is one who is
[4:54]able to find successors to his role my challenge for you tonight
[5:02]is for all of our successful leaders in our community find at
[5:07]least three in your community from the youngsters and Mentor them so
[5:12]that within 5 years within 10 years they can fulfill that role
[5:17]because even if you've been the best leader in society but you
[5:22]leave and you leave a gap then essentially I don't consider that
[5:28]as a huge success for you if you leave a gap and
[5:34]you have not mentored someone polished someone to fulfill your role then
[5:40]you have failed this is why the Shia school of thought insists
[5:45]that it is impossible for the holy prophet peace be upon him
[5:48]to leave this umah without appointing a successor because that's failure for
[5:55]you to deliver the best religion the most complete religion but then
[6:01]to leave this huge gap this huge void and leave it up
[6:06]to the um to fight and quarrel for 14th centuries that's impossible
[6:11]all of the leaders of Allah subhah wa ta'ala appointed successors not
[6:16]only did they appoint successors they raised them find me a person
[6:26]other than Al who was raised by the holy prophet for 30
[6:31]years the prophet raises a man for 30 years and we make
[6:35]him number four that's the problem that's why we have issues after
[6:38]14 centuries because we have not been observant of that Covenant of
[6:48]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala our societies are in dire need of leaders
[6:53]brothers and sisters now when we examine the topic of leadership there
[6:58]is one area that demands our attention and that is woman leadership
[7:04]in the religion of Islam because unfortunately our history demonstrates to us
[7:12]that women have been continually marginalized and they continue to be marginalized
[7:18]till this very day you know the United Nations it has been
[7:26]75 years since its establishment yet they have not managed to elect
[7:32]a female Secretary General what does that tell you about the world
[7:39]here in the United States 250 years have passed almost since our
[7:45]first president and yet only now after 250 years potentially there could
[7:49]be a female who could be elected to office and when you
[7:56]examine our own communities the picture is so gloomy and dim black
[8:00]when you examine our own institutions look at our institutions whether they're
[8:07]cultural institutions whether they're religious institutions look at our boards just examine
[8:13]any random board in any of our institutions here in the society
[8:17]what percentage of our board is composed of female leaders we have
[8:24]an issue we have hundreds if not thousands of mosques here in
[8:29]the United States go to any mon from any school of thought
[8:33]just do a random survey and see the participation of females in
[8:39]the decision-making process in running the community in running the M you
[8:44]will find very low participation and this is alarming to us brothers
[8:49]and sisters because now more than ever we have huge challenges that
[8:54]we're facing you know the most common misconcept ception about the religion
[9:02]of Islam here in the west is that Islam is a religion
[9:05]of violence it condones violence the second most common misconception in the
[9:13]eyes of westerners our fellow American citizens is what is that the
[9:19]religion of Islam marginalizes women does not give room to them they're
[9:23]oppressed they're weak they can't make their own decisions and they're subject
[9:32]to violence physical abuse domestic violence many people think that I remember
[9:37]once I was in a class at the University of Michigan when
[9:40]the professor asked a question to the students the professor said I
[9:47]want to see a show of hands how many of you here
[9:48]in this class believe that the religion of Islam oppresses women and
[9:57]that they're subject to domestic violence because of their religion almost all
[10:01]of the hands went up they were being honest they were really
[10:07]being honest that's the impression they have that the religion of Islam
[10:12]marginalizes women then the professor did something very interesting she asked the
[10:17]students now I want to ask you a second question how many
[10:20]of you in the room here knows a Muslim girl a Muslim
[10:27]woman almost all of them they raised their hands they had some
[10:31]interaction with some Muslims so they knew some families some friends some
[10:37]college students then she asked the third question she said how many
[10:42]of you personally know a Muslim woman or a Muslim girl who's
[10:46]abused who's subject to domestic violence and physically abused how many of
[10:51]you know how many hands you think went up not a single
[10:56]hand no one raised his hand no one raised her hand the
[10:59]professor was making a very interesting point see what the media does
[11:05]to you all of you just raise your hands thinking that the
[11:08]religion of Islam marginalizes women but when asked if you personally knew
[11:14]someone you didn't because it's blown out of proportion now yes we
[11:21]do have domestic violence in our community in many parts of the
[11:25]Middle East but domestic violence respected brothers and sisters is not an
[11:29]Islamic issue it's not an Islamic problem it's a universal problem the
[11:36]whole world suffers from domestic violence just simply look at the statistics
[11:42]here in the United States and you'll realize to share with you
[11:49]some of these statistics here in the United States every 9 seconds
[11:54]every 9 seconds a woman is battered she's beaten as I'm speaking
[12:01]to you now tens of women are being battered around the United
[12:05]States 20 women per minute are subject to physical violence that's very
[12:14]alarming every single day three women are murdered in the United States
[12:20]by an intimate partner that's domestic violence in the period from 2001
[12:29]and 2012 do you know how many women were killed in the
[12:35]US by intimate Partners when you look at the numbers it's really
[12:42]alarming to us in this period 11,766 women were killed by intimate
[12:50]Partners only in the year 2011 1,59 women were killed by intimate
[12:58]Partners murder Mur to death and you know interestingly about 264 of
[13:05]them were killed during an argument they got into an argument and
[13:11]the husband or that other intimate partner decided to kill this woman
[13:17]look at these statistics but our society is oblivious to these statistics
[13:22]38 million women in the United States have been subject to some
[13:29]sort of physical abuse every every single year 5 million women are
[13:33]subject to domestic violence our shelters are full brothers and sisters do
[13:38]you know that every single night in the United States 3,000 women
[13:41]have to be turned away from shelters because they're just overpopulated they're
[13:47]at full capacity 3,000 women you know what that means and many
[13:52]of them are with their children but many of us don't know
[13:58]this yesterday I had the honor of visiting Zaman International this blessed
[14:01]organization just go and see visit it and see and ask how
[14:06]many people show up every day every week every month battered women
[14:11]suffering from abuse from abusive relationships and not all of them are
[14:15]Muslim no many of their clients are non-muslims this is happening in
[14:21]our society and you know what's interesting is that these statistics reveal
[14:28]these findings reveal that those men who grew up in homes when
[14:35]they were children they grew up in abusive homes seeing their father
[14:39]for example Abus his mother they're three times more likely to be
[14:44]abusive when they grow up parents be careful and you know a
[14:50]lot of the abuse could be verbal abuse when a child grows
[14:52]in a home grows up in a house every single day seeing
[14:58]his father abusing his mother verb you know what that does to
[15:04]the child you're destroying his psychological makeup I remember once my respected
[15:08]father shared with us a story that one day a man called
[15:13]him from another state a woman called him from another state she
[15:16]was complaining that every day her husband beats her for no reason
[15:22]so my father asked her to give the phone to her husband
[15:26]he spoke to her husband he asked is this true do you
[15:32]beat your wife every day he's like yes I beat her every
[15:36]day I like why does she do anything and you know he
[15:38]didn't work this poor wife she has to go to work and
[15:43]this man is sitting doing nothing at home and when she comes
[15:45]back from work he beats her he admitted he's like yes I
[15:49]do beat her he's like why for what reason what does she
[15:52]do like say this is normal when I grew up in my
[15:56]Village my dad was a farmer and sometimes I remember that scene
[16:00]one day when he got angry at my mother he took a
[16:05]pot with boiling water and he poured it on my mother say
[16:09]you I'm not doing that to her I'm just beinga here you
[16:12]know can you imagine that but this man is a victim when
[16:18]you have such a house these are the consequences domestic violence my
[16:22]respected brothers and sisters it's not an Islamic problem it's a universal
[16:27]problem you know when what the holy prophet peace be upon Him
[16:32]says to those husbands who batter their wives the prophet peace be
[16:37]upon him in one Hadith says remember this Hadith if you raise
[16:44]your hand on your wife to batter your wife the prophet says
[16:50]immediately a hand is raised for him in Hellfire this is what
[16:57]the holy prophet peace be upon Him says so when you examine
[17:03]domestic violence it's a universal problem but most people don't know that
[17:06]many of your fellow citizens in your Society they believe that your
[17:10]religion plays a role in that they have no clue they think
[17:16]your religion marginalizes you I remember last year I was on an
[17:19]airplane and this Canadian woman she saw my attire so she asked
[17:25]me about the religion of Islam and she was being very honest
[17:27]when she told me about her perception of women in the religion
[17:32]of Islam just like my perception of women is that they're locked
[17:34]up in a cage they have no Freedom they can't do anything
[17:37]they want and the best proof is that woman can't drive in
[17:42]the religion of Islam see the perception in the whole religion of
[17:47]Islam you have 1.5 billion Muslims her perception is that Islam bans
[17:55]woman from driving I asked her immediately I told her are you
[17:59]sure about about that that the religion of Islam itself she's like
[18:01]yeah the religion of Islam in the Quran bangs it I told
[18:05]her you know do you think 14 centuries ago there were really
[18:08]cars and driving for the Quran to ban it she know she
[18:13]was puzzled and then I told her something I told her let
[18:18]me share a story with you 14 centuries ago there was a
[18:21]woman a very wealthy woman she was in fact the most wealthy
[18:28]woman in the Arabian peninsula she had this huge company camel loads
[18:32]of goods of golden coins and silver and she was a very
[18:36]successful business woman she would go all the way up to Syria
[18:42]South to Yemen she had agents working for her a very free
[18:45]woman very business oriented and very successful in society and then one
[18:54]day this woman meets a young man who was so honest who
[18:57]was so diligent and she employed him and after a while she
[19:03]fell in love with his faith with with his attitude with his
[19:05]character and personality and she proposed to him and he accepted to
[19:10]marry her do you know who that person is and who this
[19:13]woman is she's like no I've never heard this before I told
[19:16]her that man is the prophet Muhammad his most beloved wife and
[19:30]his first wife was not a woman locked up in a cage
[19:33]no she was the wealthiest woman in Arabia the most free woman
[19:39]in Arabia she was a woman who had her own business who
[19:42]made her own decisions and out of all women in Arabia the
[19:48]prophet decided to marry this lady lady his most beloved wife his
[19:55]most faithful wife you know when she heard that she had tears
[19:57]in her eyes she was shocked unbelievable the prophet of Islam would
[20:01]choose such a woman to be his wife the mother of his
[20:07]children the woman of his home but these are the Perceptions in
[20:11]our society respected brothers and sisters that's why woman leadership is extremely
[20:16]important we have to tackle these misconceptions you know just a few
[20:21]months ago Donald Trump created this whole controversy with the Khan family
[20:25]how many of you remember that the poor parents they're there speaking
[20:31]about their dead son who died in War and what does he
[20:38]say he says you know what why does gazan the mother of
[20:41]this dead soldier why didn't she speak why was she silent I
[20:47]think she did not have the right to speak because of the
[20:49]religion of Islam does not allow her to speak and then she
[20:54]had to explain her situation she said when I went to the
[20:57]convention and I saw the picture picture the photo of my own
[21:02]son I got emotional how do you expect me to get up
[21:06]in front of people and speak about that but really many people
[21:09]do think that just because she was standing there silent they misunderstood
[21:12]that to mean that the religion of Islam is op pressive term
[21:19]that's why the respected sisters in our society they have to step
[21:24]up to the plate the challenges are extremely difficult now and there's
[21:31]one family in our history which always teach us that especially in
[21:37]times of Crisis females have to step up to the plate and
[21:43]they have to be active leaders in society and that family is
[21:46]the family of B peace be upon us they teaches they teach
[21:51]us empowerment look at their history starting from when she gave that
[21:57]famous speech in the prophet's mosque and shook the community in Medina
[22:03]lady Z who played a pivotal role in bringing down the corrupt
[22:09]Dynasty with her powerful words with her amazing leadership and there's one
[22:18]example I would like to share with you tonight from the peace
[22:21]be upon them I'm sure most of you have not heard about
[22:26]this figure but this is in our history during the occultation of
[22:32]the minor occultation we know that he had four ambassadors right four
[22:38]deputies four men who were deputies who acted as lisons between him
[22:44]and the community the Muslim Community the Shia Community but you know
[22:52]there was someone else who also played an instrumental role in connecting
[23:00]the Muslim Community with in the minor occultation who is that they
[23:06]both narrate this Hadith in their books they say there was a
[23:10]companion by the name of Ahmed ibraim Ahmed ibim was one of
[23:18]the very close Companions of imar peace be upon him and IM
[23:22]peace be upon Him Ahmed ibim he says in the year 282
[23:28]in the hijri Islamic calendar that's about 22 years after the minor
[23:31]occultation started he said I was confused I don't have an IM
[23:37]whom I can see I don't have direct access to him I
[23:39]was confused so I decided to go and visit a is who
[23:49]the daughter of a very respected woman who's buried in Sam and
[23:55]the shrine of he said I went to visit her and I
[23:57]spoke to her behind a veil I asked her a very important
[24:04]question I told her I'm confused I don't know what to do
[24:08]who's the IM of your time your religious teachings from whom do
[24:14]you take it she said from Al IMI the one who was
[24:19]in occultation he's my IM I told her but we can't see
[24:25]he's an occultation so what do we do [Music] the followers of
[24:32]the followers of the IM who's their Resort what do they do
[24:37]in such circumstances you know what she replied she said to the
[24:44]grandmother of IM she is one of his representatives and she's the
[24:48]Layon between him and the Shia Community he's like I was baffled
[24:55]I told her wait a minute wait a minute first of all
[25:00]my IM is he's an occultation and on top of that he's
[25:02]appointed a woman to lead us that doesn't make sense how is
[25:09]this possible what path is he following by doing that you know
[25:12]what she told him she told him he's following the path of
[25:15]his grandfather Hussein because he appointed his sister Z to be the
[25:25]representative after him because IM he was under a close watch by
[25:35]the dynasty if im in those early years he would openly declare
[25:38]that I am the IM I am the successor to IM Hussein
[25:43]and he would openly say that you think they would let him
[25:47]stay alive they would kill him so the IM what did he
[25:52]do the Hadith says everything would teach in those early years he
[25:59]would attribute it to his aunt Z he would say I heard
[26:05]my aunt Zab say so my aunt Z teaches this or that
[26:10]so those enemies the OM Dynasty are like okay you know what
[26:13]it's not clear that he is the IM and anything he's saying
[26:16]he's attrib he's attributing it to a woman to his aunt Z
[26:21]so let him go and this is how Allah protected you think
[26:27]and others would have given him the freedom those who came after
[26:32]ya mu they would have given him the freedom to openly practice
[26:35]his role of being an IM it's his aunt Z who actually
[26:42]saved him and took that leadership role so is telling ibim that's
[26:49]the president and therefore the grandmother of IM in that moment of
[26:57]Crisis she had a position position of leadership her name by the
[27:04]way is a very very Pious woman she originally comes from Morocco
[27:09]and she was taken as a slave to the city of Medina
[27:14]and to the Arabian Peninsula but Allah subhana wa taala chose her
[27:19]to not only be a mother of the IM because she was
[27:23]the wife of IM and the mother of but Allah also assigned
[27:30]her this very important leadership position in times of Crisis they had
[27:36]inade peace be upon them would mobilize their women their faithful women
[27:42]to be leaders in their society and this is exactly what we
[27:47]need today brothers and sisters our institutions need female leaders because they
[27:53]have so much to offer you know it's interesting when you examine
[27:57]the biolog ology and psychology of women they really make effective leaders
[28:03]first of all when you examine their brain and this has been
[28:07]scientifically proven there is a Communication Center in our brain which is
[28:13]responsible for how we communicate how we articulate ourselves how we convince
[28:18]others now this part of the brain in females is actually bigger
[28:26]than in males that's because females have four times the number of
[28:31]neurons connecting the right side of the brain to the left side
[28:34]you know that's why you see them multitasking so efficiently have you
[28:38]seen your mother Subhan Allah they're talking at the same time they're
[28:41]you know taking care of the children they're managing the school of
[28:45]their children and they're cooking and they're doing a thousand other things
[28:49]how Allah subhana wa tala has given them that capacity biologically Allah
[28:54]subhana has given them that capacity this really allows them to be
[29:00]effective leaders because one of the responsibilities of a leader is what
[29:05]is communication skills to convince others negotiation skills this is what we
[29:12]need in our institutions if we take advantage of this potential that
[29:15]we have we can advance forward brothers and sisters you know studies
[29:22]and surveys they reveal that in Europe for example those companies those
[29:27]corporations which have a higher number of women on their boards they
[29:35]outperform other companies and they actually make more profit teams which have
[29:40]a higher participation of women these teams are more efficient they're more
[29:45]intelligent and they're more productive we have to encourage our sisters and
[29:52]our societies to be active leaders to represent their Community to represent
[29:57]the values and beliefs which they subscribe to Allah subhana wa TAA
[30:04]expects this from us brothers and sisters because our times are trying
[30:07]times These are times of Crisis women have so much experience a
[30:13]mother has so much experience one of the experiences of women is
[30:19]that they have more empathy than men you know they're aware of
[30:24]their surroundings more they're more sensitive to the conditions that surround them
[30:30]they have more empathy and all of our institutions need empathy you
[30:34]know today in Corporate America these corporations really do you think they
[30:39]care about people suffering in society about poverty around the world They
[30:44]Don't Really Care their main goal is to make profits we need
[30:50]the empathy of our sisters to transform these corporations just yesterday at
[30:53]Zaman International I met this executive she came from another Corporation and
[31:00]I asked her what is it that brought you to this institution
[31:02]you know what she said she said unfortunately in the corporations and
[31:08]these are Big corporations very well known fortun Fortune 500 companies in
[31:15]the corporation that I worked for there's no empathy everything is driven
[31:20]by profit what's in it for us even projects which appear to
[31:27]be charitable in reality the goal of that Corporation is to see
[31:32]what they have to benefit from it what's in it for us
[31:36]how can we gain from this and therefore I wanted to join
[31:39]an organization that's really helping the people in society and that's why
[31:45]I joined this organization women offer empathy to our corporations to our
[31:52]institutions and this helps us connect with human suffering to relieve human
[31:57]suffering and this is true really amazing now in the religion of
[32:04]Islam Allah subhah wa ta'ala has empowered women with an amazing powerful
[32:11]tool that allows them to prosper as dignified leaders in their society
[32:17]and that is the hijab brothers and sisters you know our society
[32:20]acts as if we have no issues you know many of the
[32:27]feminists they do raise valid points but unfortunately they ignore a very
[32:33]ugly reality that we experience in our society and that's harassment in
[32:40]the workplace do you know how much harassment there is in the
[32:43]workplace 70% 50 to 70% of women are harassed in the workpl
[32:52]sometime in their life time this is not you know in Bangladesh
[32:56]or somewhere in the Muslim world no this is in the United
[33:02]States of America 70% of women are harassed where not on the
[33:05]street no not in Parks not in the mall in the workplace
[33:11]what is the solution to this what solution is our society offering
[33:18]to this problem to this dilemma yes educate men teach them to
[33:21]behave themselves that's not going to work it hasn't worked it's not
[33:29]going to when you have these females and the presence of males
[33:32]for long hours in one room you can't expect all me to
[33:37]be you that's not going to happen that's a psychology of how
[33:40]human beings function yes the first day he's polite the second day
[33:43]a month later two months later he's trying to be polite but
[33:48]then this constant exposure to a member of the opposite gender you
[33:52]know will make everything seem normal and then after a few months
[33:56]after a year at maximum you see the harassment taking place and
[34:01]then Haram acts are conducted and then marriages are ruled what's the
[34:09]solution for this some say yeah and still cameras and monitor men
[34:12]is that really practical how many billion millions of cameras do you
[34:15]want to install and who's going to do the monitoring it simply
[34:21]doesn't work that's the nature of human beings not everyone is like
[34:26]YF you know YF for for seven year by the way the
[34:31]Hadith says for seven years he was in the presence of Z
[34:34]the most beautiful woman of his time do you know that for
[34:38]seven years he never raised his head to look at her in
[34:44]the face for seven years after 7 years she got frustrated the
[34:47]Hadith says she told him Yousef 7 years you're not even looking
[34:51]at me just look at me your eyes are so beautiful let
[34:55]me see your beautiful eyes you know what he told her he
[35:00]told her Z if you would see my eyes 3 days after
[35:05]I'm buried under the ground you would not find them so beautiful
[35:09]she tells him Yousef but you smell so good he tells her
[35:16]if after a week after I die and I'm buried under the
[35:23]ground you would run away from me because of my odor and
[35:25]how I he never looked at her but this is the prophet
[35:30]of Allah subhana tala he can restrain himself what is the solution
[35:32]that we have in our society one solution is the hijab when
[35:38]a woman observes the hijab in a corporation in the workplace immediately
[35:42]she's sending a message this is a red line know your limits
[35:47]I observe my limits and remember the hijab is not just a
[35:50]scarf that a woman wears it's how she presents herself how she
[35:56]speaks how she interacts if you send the right messages believe me
[36:02]you will not get unwanted advances it's the haab that protects your
[36:07]honor it's the hijab that protects your dignity respected sisters and I
[36:13]know this might sound radical but I firmly believe that there should
[36:15]be some sort of segregation in the workplace because otherwise how do
[36:18]you control it yes in meetings in important events we need participation
[36:24]of both genders and female leaders need to be present in those
[36:30]meetings for example in the decisionmaking process but in the day-to-day activities
[36:36]sitting 8 hours and there's a man next to you how do
[36:38]you stop that how do you stop harassment let's not act as
[36:43]if there's no problem in our society just look at the statistics
[36:47]70% harassment in the workplace and no you can't resolve this with
[36:52]with education you know why because where do you think you'll find
[36:58]the highest rate of harassment in the most educated sectors in the
[37:03]workplace look at the statistics for example in the business in the
[37:09]trade in the banking in the finance sectors that's where you find
[37:13]the highest rates of harassment in sales and marketing in Hospitality in
[37:19]for example civil services in education and lecturing and teaching alhamdulillah I'm
[37:26]not a female for that but seriously this is what we're experiencing
[37:32]in our societies even lecturers even educational people in the workplace they're
[37:38]subject to harassment so education let's not fool ourselves education in itself
[37:44]it's great but it's not going to solve the problem I firmly
[37:47]believe that a good solution to this is the hijab that Allah
[37:53]subhana wa taala wants our society to uphold it will drastically minimize
[37:58]the numbers if implemented properly in our societies yes it's difficult no
[38:06]one is saying it's easy it's extremely difficult some of you may
[38:11]have heard or read the article in the New York Times about
[38:14]a sister from New York zahar Shima many of you may have
[38:19]heard about her she's a successful lawyer and the New York Times
[38:23]covers her story her struggles with the hijab and she's very honest
[38:27]she says yes I struggled a lot with the hij but in
[38:33]the end because of her firm Faith because of her resolution because
[38:38]she believed in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala she's now a very successful
[38:42]lawyer working for a very successful firm it's possible it's very difficult
[38:48]the tides may be against us but that's what we learn from
[38:55]the message of IM Hussein that's what we learned from the holy
[38:59]you know there are billions of women who lived in history why
[39:05]does Allah subhah wa tala decide to mention a woman like the
[39:08]wife of the Pharaoh a why does God [Music] mention what's special
[39:15]about her what differentiates her from billions of other women is because
[39:21]she kept patient for the sake of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and
[39:24]see how the almighty God Praises her in the she had what
[39:30]any woman wants she was in a palace in a castle she
[39:36]had people dedicated for her makeup she had someone dedicated just to
[39:40]calm her hair she had servants she had the gold and the
[39:45]soup and the jewelry and everything that you could ask for but
[39:49]she said no I don't want that because all of this is
[39:55]not pleasing Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala what's the point of having a
[40:01]husband like that who declares to be the Lord she could no
[40:04]longer keep the love of Allah subhah wa ta'ala in her heart
[40:07]she had to show it to her Society but you know what
[40:12]happened to her they dragged her in the streets in front of
[40:15]everyone humiliated her and they placed a boulder on her chest and
[40:23]they pegged her hands and feet with a nail to the ground
[40:25]you know what she said in those final moments what did she
[40:30]say she looked up to the sky what would you say if
[40:37]you were in her place Allah why me don't you see I
[40:39]suffered so much because of you and this is my end she
[40:44]said one thing oh Allah I ask you for one thing build
[40:52]me a house of paradise and Allah mentions her in the Holy
[40:56]Quran and her honor because of that patience Z with her patience
[41:03]she toppled thean Dynasty when yazid asked her how do you find
[41:07]what Allah subhah wa ta'ala did to your brother Hussein do you
[41:12]know how insulting that is your brother has been killed mercilessly slaughtered
[41:17]and this evil dictator in front of his men in front of
[41:23]all those people he's asking you how do you find it that
[41:25]God killed your brother Hussein you know what she said said she
[41:30]said I have seen nothing but Beauty believe me with this word
[41:37]she shattered him she destroyed him then and there with this courage
[41:42]with this amazing leadership Z was an effective leader yet she upheld
[41:48]her her modesty and her Chastity you know bash he says I
[41:58]saw Z when she came to Kua she gave a very powerful
[42:02]speech an amazing speech you know what he says he says I
[42:08]swear by Allah never had I seen a woman more modest and
[42:14]more chased than Z and at the same time so courageous it's
[42:23]as if was addressing the people you see how Z merged combined
[42:29]between courage and between Chastity it's possible the hijab was not a
[42:34]hindrance for her because I know some sisters are saying no the
[42:39]hijab May impede our progress no it doesn't if you're confident about
[42:43]yourself it will actually give you a greater boost and remember that
[42:50]Allah is there why do we forget Allah subhana waala from our
[42:54]equations if you support Allah wa taala Allah subhana taala will support
[43:01]you let's learn from Z on such nights you know a woman
[43:10]played a very pivotal role in mobilizing people to defend Al IM
[43:16]Hussein there was a woman by the name of Maria she was
[43:23]in b a very faithful woman her father her husband and her
[43:30]sons they died in one of the battles defending IM she had
[43:35]no one no male relative to take care of her to look
[43:41]after her Maria hears about the message of imin and Hussein has
[43:44]gone to Iraq and he needs supporters but she's a woman she
[43:51]can't go to the battlefield and fight what can she do how
[43:54]can she support the Imam of her time one day she stood
[43:59]at she she was sitting at the doorsteps of her house and
[44:04]she was crying so much she was profusely crying for an IM
[44:09]Hussein some men passed by they said om Maria what's wrong why
[44:15]do you cry did someone harass you did someone harm you she
[44:19]said no I'm crying because my master Hussein is calling for support
[44:24]and I see the men here they're Idol no one's going to
[44:27]support my master Hussein that's what's making me cry the men told
[44:34]her they said om Maria we wish we could support abdah Hussein
[44:38]but we don't have the means we don't have weapons we don't
[44:43]have horses we don't have the money she looked at them baffled
[44:46]she told them is that what's stopping you from joining an IM
[44:52]Hussein because you have you don't have money they're like yes if
[44:55]we can get some swords some money some horses will go she
[45:01]had a servant immediately she orders her servant to go in the
[45:05]house and bring a bag full of money she takes this bag
[45:12]full of money she takes it to those to those men and
[45:14]she pours the money the golden coins in front of them she
[45:19]tells them look all my life I have save this money for
[45:24]such a thing take it if the lack of money is stopping
[45:26]you then take it and go defend the IM Hussein there was
[45:31]a man by the name of abdah he felt ashamed of himself
[45:38]he stood and he said look this poor woman she's crying and
[45:41]she feels ashamed for not being able to support IM Hussein and
[45:44]we Men We shameful men are sitting here he says I'm going
[45:51]to go toala and I will defend IM Hussein you know because
[45:54]of her mobilization this woman may Allah have mercy on her because
[46:02]of her 10 people joined IM Hussein you know how much that
[46:06]is 10 out of 72 you do the math one single woman
[46:14]was responsible for mobilizing 10 men to join IM Hussein abdah stands
[46:21]up he had 11 children 11 Sons he said I'm going toala
[46:26]towards towards Hussein who's coming with me four of his sons they
[46:32]joined him so Abdullah and four of his sons that's five they
[46:36]joined IM Hussein the sixth person was a young man by the
[46:41]name of he was 19 years old he just had his wife
[46:48]history narrates that he heard about what this woman did and he
[46:56]found the determination to go and help IM Hussein he goes to
[47:00]his house he tells his mother my mother please have my horse
[47:04]ready for me and have my armor and sword ready for me
[47:09]she tells him sah where do you think you're going you just
[47:11]got married he said no I just want to go in the
[47:15]garden and I feel depressed I want to some spend some time
[47:20]with myself but she realized that he had another intention she tells
[47:23]him s go to your wife go to your wife you just
[47:29]got married where do you want to go he said no I
[47:31]have to go on a mission his wife listens she comes she
[47:36]tells him s we just got married where do you want to
[47:38]leave us he says I'm going to someone who's better than you
[47:44]and me she tells him who's better than us who are you
[47:50]going to he says I am going to IM husin I want
[47:53]to defend IM Hussein s is now in a difficult position his
[48:01]mother doesn't want him to go his wife doesn't want him to
[48:05]go until you know what his mother tells him his mother tells
[48:08]him my dear beloved Son s did I not carry you in
[48:14]my wom for 9 months he said yes mother did I not
[48:19]sacrifice so much for you he says yes you did I don't
[48:21]deny that I don't deny that mother you have a great light
[48:26]upon me but I have have to go and join IM Hussein
[48:31]I can't leave him then his mother tells him oh if you
[48:34]recognize my right on you then I have one request from you
[48:39]when you go and meet IM husin ask him to forgive me
[48:45]ask him that on the day of judgment Allah subhanahu waala forgives
[48:48]me and give your master Hussein my Salam he says my dear
[48:56]Mother I will implement what you have asked me he goes He
[48:59]marches towards carala he arrives on the day of Ash and IM
[49:06]Hussein sees a man is approaching from far away the Imam says
[49:09]is this he says yes I am s the IM tells him
[49:14]where are you where where have you been we've been waiting for
[49:20]you oh he comes he gives his Salam to IM Hussein the
[49:24]IM tells him oh did you your mother ask you to do
[49:28]something he said yes the Imam says what she says he said
[49:33]my mother told me to give you my the IM told him
[49:43]your mother and my mother FAA will be in Paradise then tells
[49:51]IM Hussein oh Hussein do you give me permission to go to
[49:54]the tents of the woman I want give my Salam to Zab
[49:58]and the woman do you give me the permission AB abdah he
[50:02]says yes I give you the permission he goes he stands by
[50:07]the tent of Z and he says peace be upon you all
[50:17]the family of the Prophet peace be upon you oh z z
[50:20]tells him go and defend abdah Hussein he defends the IM of
[50:27]his time brothers and sisters and he falls as a Shah one
[50:30]woman mobilized so many men this is the empowerment that we're talking
[50:35]about this is the message of Ash and finally respected brothers and
[50:40]sisters one woman who played an instrumental role and sacrificing for the
[50:45]sake of Allah subhah wa ta'ala was a woman by the name
[50:49]of she was in the city of kufa she was at her
[50:58]doorstep waiting for her son to come back when she sees a
[51:01]stranger Muslim this man who came to kufa thousands of people paid
[51:12]allegiance to him but then IB zad the evil governor of kufa
[51:16]he threatens all those who would support Muslim he was the cousin
[51:22]of Al IM Hussein the ambassador of Al IM Hussein they dispersed
[51:27]from AR around him they betray him they leave him all alone
[51:31]just hours ago 18,000 people came to greet him see how they
[51:38]betrayed him and now he looks to his right to his left
[51:40]there is no one in the city of kufa he's a stranger
[51:44]he doesn't know the alleys of kufa he stands by the doorsteps
[51:47]of she sees a stranger he was extremely thirsty he tells her
[51:54]oh servant of God give me some water she takes some water
[52:00]and she brings the water to him but she realizes that he's
[52:03]not going she tells him why are you staying here at my
[52:11]doorstep why leave why don't you leave go back to your family
[52:13]go to your home why are you standing here he tells her
[52:19]oh servant of Allah he tells her oh servant of Allah I
[52:33]have no one in this city I have no family to go
[52:35]to I have no house to go to she tells him why
[52:39]who are you he tells her I am Muslim the ambassador of
[52:45]IM Hussein she's shocked to hear that she tells him you are
[52:49]musl then please come to my house she invites him to his
[52:54]house she gives him a separate room but she tells him my
[52:56]son is an evil son I just hope he doesn't find out
[53:00]that you're in my house Muslim spends that night in worshiping Allah
[53:07]subhana wa ta'ala she brings him some food but he refuses to
[53:11]eat from that food it's as if he sens that this was
[53:17]his last night shortly before F he takes a short nap he
[53:22]sees in his dream and he tells him hurry come to us
[53:31]your time has come oh Muslim he wakes up from his dream
[53:38]he realizes that this is his final day he prays when he
[53:41]hears the soldiers and the horses surrounding the house he goes out
[53:46]and he defends the teachings of IM Hussein he defends himself and
[53:56]there was a huge bloody war there in the of kufa but
[53:59]they outnumber him they start attacking him from every direction they go
[54:04]on the rooftops and they Stone him he falls helpless could not
[54:11]defend himself one of those enemies he comes and he strikes him
[54:14]at his lips he wounds the lips of Muslim they arrest him
[54:22]they take him to IB zad he was extremely thirsty he said
[54:26]can I have some water initially they refused but then they gave
[54:31]him a bucket of water he takes the bucket of water as
[54:33]he's drink as he wants to drink from it the blood gushes
[54:38]from his lips the water becomes bloody three times he changes the
[54:42]water the third time as he's about to drink his teeth falls
[54:48]into the bucket of water he realizes that Allah subhana waala wants
[54:51]him to die thirsty just like his master abdah Hussein he says
[54:57]no I will not drink water then they take him on the
[55:04]rooftop of the castle before beheading him and throwing him from the
[55:08]castle he tells them just give me a couple of minutes so
[55:10]I can pray he prays for the final time then he looks
[55:16]towards South and he says peace be upon you abdah go don't
[55:24]come to kuf see what they have done to me they will
[55:32]betray youd husin and they slaughter Muslim and they throw his body
[55:39]from the castle he falls on the ground they drag his body
[55:47]in the streets of kufa the news reaches IM Hussein he was
[55:51]on his way to Iraq he hears that his cousin Muslim has
[55:56]been killed the Imam is extremely Disturbed upon hearing that you know
[56:01]what he does the first thing that he does he calls on
[56:07]the daughter of Muslim he had a daughter by the name of
[56:09]Hamida Hamida come to me the Imam was her uncle as well
[56:14]the Imam had her sit in his lap and the IM started
[56:18]to Pat her head she sensed as if something was happening she
[56:22]tells him my dear Uncle did something happen to my father why
[56:27]is it that you're tapping on my head you're wiping on my
[56:32]head like you would do to the orphin the IM tells her
[56:38]oh from now on I am your father and my daughters they
[56:44]are your sisters oh when's father died you were there to take
[56:51]care of her you were there to tap on her head but
[56:57]on the day [Music] of when your daughter saw your marom there
[57:07]was no one there to comfort her to tap her to no
[57:12]no one to tap her head [Music] everyone together [Music] [Music] respected
[57:57]brothers and sisters
