We all might be in situations where we are next to someone who is about to die. What are the Islamic recommendations at this time and what should we do? Sheikh Mohammed Al-Hilli explains #death #dying

[0:00]the question that we have to ask also an attempt to answer

[0:06]when somebody dies what happens to them and what are we supposed

[0:10]to do with them in other words most of us may have

[0:16]seen or heard or come across family members who have passed away

[0:18]when we see these rituals we need to understand the process we

[0:23]need to be in the position to explain it to non-muslims we

[0:27]need to explain it to our own children to our own family

[0:30]members all the things that go on and happen before our own

[0:37]eyes we need to be able to what understand when you and

[0:41]i are next to an individual who's about to pass away he

[0:44]or she is in a state of means what means that they

[0:51]are ready to depart from this world what do we do because

[0:55]unfortunately some of us what do we do is we cry we

[0:59]throw ourselves on the body these are my crew our say it

[1:05]is not recommended to cry next to an individual who is dying

[1:09]say it is macro to be in the state of jinaba or

[1:13]hive in other words impure physically next to an individual who is

[1:16]crying who is about to die we need to be in the

[1:20]state of purity ideally if the person is about to die what

[1:25]do we do we close their eyes and at the same time

[1:32]we recite quran next to them which chapters of the quran should

[1:34]we recite we recite surah sin and surahs our father remember this

[1:39]these two have been specifically mentioned by the bait as chapters of

[1:45]the quran that will help the disease in these final difficult moments

[1:49]so what we are told is that we need to recite the

[1:53]quran what else we need to recite the talking what is the

[1:56]talking the talking is that we recite in order to establish and

[2:02]make the belief of that individual absolutely firm in these final moments

[2:07]because doubt comes to their minds we've put them in the position

[2:13]of facing the qibla how that if they were to stand up

[2:19]they would be facing the couple in other words their feet when

[2:22]they're lying down wherever they are on the hospital bed at home

[2:25]their feet is facing the table that if we were to help

[2:30]them sit up their face would be in the direction facing mecca

[2:33]if we are at home and we have somebody who is passing

[2:38]away it is highly recommended to take them to a place where

[2:42]they used to pray they used to perform their salah their musa

[2:47]if it does not involve any hardship or difficulty for that person

[2:51]no ever if that person will not be harmed take them to

[2:57]the place that they perform their salah and you will see that

[3:02]they will become more comfortable because we are told the place that

[3:06]you perform your salah is sacred and every time you come to

[3:09]do your salah change the place wherever you are why because that

[3:13]location will intercede for you on the day of judgement and will

[3:19]act as a witness that you stood before allah subhanahu wa ta'ala

[3:23]and you performed your prayers when the person dies and their soul

[3:28]leaves their body what do we do we close their mouth we

[3:32]close their eyes and we place their hands right next to their

[3:37]feet we extend their feet and we cover them with a sheet

[3:43]these are all recommendations in the sunnah thereafter we do not leave

[3:49]them in a dark room narrations tell us that if an individual

[3:52]dies keep them in a well lit room and ideally you should

[3:58]not leave them alone but of course sometimes this is difficult but

[4:02]if it is possible for someone to stay there and to recite

[4:05]the quran with them then do so keep them in a well

[4:12]lit room as soon as that individual dies and pass away of

[4:14]course it's not haram to cry for them to somehow express your

[4:20]grief and sadness over this loss but indeed it is highly discouraged

[4:24]and some of the scholars have come forward and said that you

[4:27]should not express what jazap jaza is what sometimes we see people

[4:33]banging their heads on the wall we see sometimes some of our

[4:38]sisters tearing their clothes or their abba or whatever in anguish or

[4:41]in difficulty or in grief that should not occur in fact there

[4:47]is a kaffara for doing so there is a punishment or a

[4:52]compensation that has to be paid if an individual does this the

[4:55]only people who we should express grief and sadness towards in such

[5:00]a state are the bait and that's where the art point is

[5:04]towards the other recommendation is what when an individual dies spread the

[5:11]news of their death so that the believers prepare themselves to take

[5:14]part in salatul and come forward come for the funeral process you
