[0:01]foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] dear brothers and sisters illuminate your hearts and
[0:40]minds and this medulus Muhammad a man narrates that once it was
[0:55]in Arabia traveling by Caravan and for those of you have read
[1:00]into how travel back then occurred you would travel by Caravan with
[1:04]groups of other similar Tradesmen and Traders and businessmen because there are
[1:10]wild animals at night you don't want to lose drinking water right
[1:14]and die of thirst and so you band together you create a
[1:17]caravan and you travel together but often a big annoyance to these
[1:28]Caravans would be what night Marauders people who would come thieves who
[1:32]try to steal the merchandise and the wealth that is Within These
[1:38]Caravans so a man narrates that one night as they're traveling through
[1:44]the deserts a group of what thieves begin attacking our Caravan they
[1:51]tie our hands together they tell us show us where all your
[1:56]wealth is every single piece of gold jewelry every merchandise all the
[2:00]spices that they had been transporting Give It All To Us so
[2:04]you can imagine in a huge Caravan there's a lot of merchandise
[2:08]so they're taking their time unloading all that merchandise stealing it the
[2:13]man who narrates the story says there was one thief in particular
[2:17]I was drawn to him I was noticing his behavior was a
[2:23]little erratic he says in the midst of him stealing he takes
[2:26]a little break he sees I see him he goes to the
[2:35]corner he unfurls out of his bag a prayer rug he sets
[2:37]it on the Sands of the desert and he begins praying so
[2:42]he says I'm shocked he was just busy moments ago stealing from
[2:46]us and now he's praying and he says he took masha'allah his
[2:50]sweet time with prayer so he says obviously I was astonished so
[2:54]after he finished he said I called to him oh Thief come
[2:58]here for a second he comes over he says do you have
[3:04]some more jewelry you want to hand over he says no I
[3:06]just have a question says what's your question he says I think
[3:10]it should be obvious you just went and you prayed after stealing
[3:14]why what's going on what what effect does prayer have if this
[3:20]is your occupation right now he might have been a thief but
[3:27]he gave a very wise response he says yes you know my
[3:31]circumstances in life have led me to endorsing this occupation he says
[3:40]I wasn't always like this he says the reason I pray is
[3:45]because at the end of the day we still need to have
[3:49]Albert thin a rope with Allah even if it's very thin we
[3:57]still need to always maintain a thin rope with Allah and you
[4:02]see so he says I continue to what pray even though this
[4:07]is my occupation because I still have hope one day that I
[4:13]can evade all this that I can go back to my previous
[4:16]ways before I got myself into all this dirty business so you
[4:20]find my dear brothers and sisters the moral is not be a
[4:24]thief and then pray no that's a terrible moral the moral is
[4:30]at the end of the day all of us to some degree
[4:31]are like that robber right none of us are perfect we're all
[4:36]Sinners yes it has a much higher magnitude of crime and sin
[4:38]of course but all of us at the end of the day
[4:42]are what are Muslim all of us whether on a daily basis
[4:46]on a weekly basis we trans guess Upon Our Lord but does
[4:50]that mean we lose hope from Allah no prayer my dear brother
[4:58]sisters is something that is so highly what emphasized within our religion
[5:02]prayer is that rope between us and Allah that connection that you
[5:10]have with Allah is through prayer when he wants Allah azzawajal to
[5:17]speak to you see subhanallah our relationship with Allah has two ways
[5:20]when you want Allah to speak to you what do you take
[5:22]refuge in the Quran you hear the very words of Allah when
[5:28]you want to speak to Allah what do you take refuge in
[5:33]prayer is that private intimate connection that you have with Allah every
[5:37]day five times a day in which you pour out your heart
[5:38]to Allah you ask him for what forgiveness of your sins you
[5:44]ask him to bless you to protect you your families that is
[5:49]the connection we have with Allah you find my dear brothers and
[5:58]sisters prayers highly highly highly emphasized not because Allah azzawajal he benefits
[6:01]when we pray many of us have this misconception does Allah want
[6:06]us to praise him and pray to him because he needs it
[6:09]is Allah in need of us praying to him is that why
[6:13]he makes 1.2 billion Muslims every day pray five times a day
[6:17]right what is prayer mainly consisting of yes worship to Allah but
[6:23]part of that worship is praise thanking Allah so is Allah in
[6:29]need of all this no my dear brother sisters you find an
[6:35]entity someone that is as great as Allah azzawajal it is us
[6:41]that benefit when we praise Allah when we become closer to Allah
[6:46]in what ways by attaining god-like qualities yes we cannot become but
[6:54]we can become more merciful yes we cannot become al-jawad obviously but
[7:00]we can become more generous and more magnanimous in our lives through
[7:05]worshiping Allah and attaining these qualities through gaining closer closeness to him
[7:13]we improve our own souls and Elevate ourselves so it is in
[7:18]fact us that benefit when we pray towards Allah in fact there's
[7:22]a Hadith that states whenever any problem or Calamity would face him
[7:40]whenever any kind of trouble would befall him he would immediately take
[7:44]refuge in prayer because prayer was that moment where he would have
[7:50]that private connection with Allah you would pour his heart out to
[7:53]Allah this was the relationship rasulullah had with prayer you find Imam
[8:02]Hussain peace be upon him and states he who's lost you Allah
[8:12]who's gone astray what has he found if you leave the path
[8:17]of Allah if you go to an alternative have you found something
[8:20]better and one who's found you Allah what have they lost if
[8:31]you find Allah azzawajal and you dedicate your life to Allah have
[8:36]you lost yes maybe on the surface that entails sacrifices not engaging
[8:42]in impermissible behaviors right but that's what that's on the surface the
[8:46]reality hit hidden beneath is what you haven't lost anything because our
[8:51]true lives are within the one who has found Allah has found
[8:56]Everlasting Abode you have not lost anything if you found Allah and
[9:04]you've lost everything if you've lost Allah the medium that connects us
[9:09]to Allah my dear brother sisters is prayer the common points between
[9:13]all these factors is assalam is prayer my dear brothers sisters thus
[9:18]we must take prayer as an utmost priority let us look at
[9:24]how the peace be upon them viewed prayer what was the Paradigm
[9:27]of the towards prayer you find Abdullah he once asked imams peace
[9:37]be upon him why do you engage in so much prayer it
[9:41]seems to be getting to the point that it's excessive who is
[9:48]the jewelry right he's the jewelry of the worshipers he's the one
[9:53]that he's the beautification of all those who worship right his nickname
[9:58]is asajjad from how much he would prostrate Allah why do you
[10:02]do so much isn't it getting excessive now my dear brothers sisters
[10:09]is there such a thing as excessive worship what is the responsive
[10:13]he says are I not to be thankful look at the wisdom
[10:22]of this response you see my dear brothers and sisters his Mercy
[10:29]decided to even create us right had it not been for Allah's
[10:35]Mercy we wouldn't have been rocks rather we would have just been
[10:38]non-existent Allah out of his Mercy created us in this perfect form
[10:41]of the human being he granted Us by which we reason with
[10:46]the intellect and greatest of all he has given us this gift
[10:51]of what of Islam this beautiful religion and the will I have
[10:58]Allah peace be upon them the fact that he's allowed me to
[11:11]know him to know his attributes and qualities and in knowing Allah
[11:15]and following him my soul elevates thus I'm thankful and I offer
[11:19]this much prayer to Allah you find Imam peace be upon him
[11:27]his companions would know that every single time he would what he
[11:32]would be shaking when he prays so his companions would come and
[11:39]ask oh Imam what are you afraid of you're the Valiant son
[11:43]of Amir what are you afraid of he says do you not
[11:48]know the person I'm standing in front of my dear brothers and
[11:52]sisters When you pray these gestures and prayers have symbolism when you
[11:58]bow down and record it's as if you're bowing down and offering
[12:03]your head to your king and so when you pray who are
[12:07]you praying to who are you standing in front of the creator
[12:13]of the universe and all that lies within Allah that's why Imam
[12:16]Hassan would always at the beginning before his prayers recite what the
[12:21]following yeah oh one who does good someone who is lacking someone
[12:30]who sins has approached you and tell him you are the good
[12:34]doer and I am what the one who is lacking oh magnanimous
[12:45]one look away from all that all the bad things that I
[12:49]do right have mercy on me despite all the bad actions that
[12:52]I engage in have mercy on me you find part of the
[12:57]mercy of Allah was that what he has delayed the okuba the
[13:03]punishments and the words of our actions until the akhara and he
[13:06]has given us enough time to repent while we are alive imagine
[13:09]if every single time you wanted to commit a sin write those
[13:16]stones or a meteor would come and strike you none of us
[13:20]would last a day right if Allah wanted to punish us in
[13:24]this Dunya we wouldn't have a chance Allah delays punishment and rewards
[13:28]why so that we have chance upon chance upon chance upon chance
[13:32]to go back towards him and repent chance upon chance to change
[13:37]your old habits and develop new habits with Allah secondly my dear
[13:44]brothers and sisters you find part of the philosophy of Prayer of
[13:48]Salah is what protects you from Temptations of this life is Salah
[14:02]protects you from fascia from Evil and Monker when you engage in
[14:10]prayer my dear brothers sisters five times a day with sincerity towards
[14:14]Allah that is a constant reminder five times a day of what
[14:17]my mission here is on Earth I've created man and Jinn except
[14:27]to worship so five times a day when you engage in this
[14:30]worship you're always reminded of your mission thus you're reminded to stay
[14:37]away from that which is bad that which Allah has forbidden upon
[14:41]the human being thus you find the prayer area the area where
[14:45]you pray is called what it's called the mirab right why is
[14:52]it called the mahab literally means the area of War the area
[14:58]of yeah I mean when you pray right it should be a
[15:03]peaceful moment between you and Allah why is it called is an
[15:07]area of War a war between who you and who you want
[15:13]shaytan the devil iblies you're in a constant battle with Iblis I
[15:17]believe does he want you to come to the mahab no right
[15:23]that's why it's almost prayer time but you know your favorite show
[15:28]is on the FNL the NFL game is going the NBA game
[15:33]is going right shaytan says we'll fight later right delay it delay
[15:38]it even when you get to them shaytan is doing what it's
[15:41]constantly fighting you I know someone he says I always misplace stuff
[15:47]you know I always forget where I place my keys my phone
[15:50]and I can never seem to remember always takes me forever to
[15:54]remember he says but the second I go to pray I start
[15:56]remembering oh I left my keys on the counter oh that and
[16:00]the drawer is where I left my my what my phone oh
[16:04]that bag I left it in the car all these thoughts they
[16:06]come when during prayer to try to distract me either even during
[16:10]prayer he tries to distract you thus the area of prayer is
[16:18]called the mahab the area by which you fight shaytan you fight
[16:24]the devil this is a sacred area my dear brothers and sisters
[16:26]you have to take this war seriously why because if you're able
[16:33]to be successful in the you can take that strength and Take
[16:39]It Outside The mahab if you can defeat the Devil Within the
[16:45]prayer mat after you leave prayer is when the true Jihad starts
[16:49]right when problems start appearing in your life between your spouse your
[16:54]kids at work you're confronted with challenges right there's a session where
[17:02]riba is going on then the true war starts if you can
[17:04]pass the level of the past that fight with the shaitaan then
[17:10]when the real fight starts after you leave the prayer mat you
[17:15]can also be successful because my dear brother sisters true prayer starts
[17:22]after you finish prayer yes prayer is very important but it's after
[17:26]prayer finishes you go back to the real world and you encounter
[17:31]all these problems and you're Tried by Allah to test your patience
[17:36]your Sabor your generosity your loyalty your Iman that is where the
[17:42]true test comes from thus before you head on to that space
[17:50]make sure you win the fight with the devil on the prayer
[17:53]mats Muhammad and you find my dear brothers and sisters that the
[18:06]act of Prayer is not simply an individual Act Islam has so
[18:10]much emphasis on prayer being what a communal act a congregational act
[18:15]that's why we have so many a Hadith that the prayer of
[18:20]the neighbor of the Masjid has to be aware at the Masjid
[18:25]that the prayer inside the Masjid is Multiplied one thousandfold that the
[18:31]prayer on the day of Friday with the Believers has such a
[18:35]word that only Allah can count the Angels begin to come and
[18:40]count yet they cannot count it only Allah can count thus you
[18:45]find it's an obligation to not only remind ourselves to pray but
[18:49]we have to remind who our families as well if we want
[18:53]to have healthy stable families we have to constantly remind each other
[18:57]to uphold this act of prayer shaytan is not just fighting you
[19:02]he's fighting your whole family we're all in the same boat and
[19:05]thus we should all use the same tactics and tools to fight
[19:10]him thus you find Allah reveals in this verse and command your
[19:19]family as well to pray remind them constantly to pray you find
[19:26]rasulullah after this verse was revealed for nine months for every prayer
[19:32]he would come knocking at the door of Fatima why you would
[19:37]come knocking to remind them to pray now does the household of
[19:43]America need to be reminded no but rasulullah is setting an example
[19:47]for us when you wake up for Fajr if you have young
[19:50]kids even if they're not at the day at the age of
[19:53]what praying make it a fun activity tell them look we'll pray
[19:56]and then you know afterwards we'll go get ice cream make prayer
[20:02]a fun activity make it something memorable such that prayer becomes a
[20:06]habit a routine within their lives always always emphasize especially to your
[20:13]young children the importance of prayer yes you don't want to force
[20:19]your kids to pray that is a wrong philosophy you know sometimes
[20:22]some of our countries back home they tell you right pray otherwise
[20:26]you're gonna go to hell is that a kind of logic that
[20:30]you use with young children with young kids this is a method
[20:35]that will what make them abstain from prayer no you want to
[20:37]show them the beauty of prayer have them pray behind you tell
[20:41]them if you pray you know afterwards we'll go and do something
[20:44]that you enjoy couple it with an action that they really enjoy
[20:49]such that they have positive associations with the act of Prayer such
[20:53]is the importance of prayer my dear brothers and sisters oh Allah
[21:06]make me someone who upholds Dua and my progeny such is the
[21:12]importance of prayer that you should pray to Allah that even your
[21:14]kids and your progeny your great great grandkids will be among those
[21:20]who pray and you'll find in this verse and in many verses
[21:23]in the Holy Quran Allah doesn't instruct you to just simply pray
[21:27]the verse says right means you you hold prayer say Allah doesn't
[21:46]simply instruct you to pray if Allah was simply to instruct you
[21:52]to pray that means what at 9 15 or 8 15 you
[21:55]go you sit on the prayer mat you pray in the new
[22:00]Leaf that's praying means uphold prayer it means when you stand on
[22:08]that mat you have that sure that pie in your heart knowing
[22:14]who you're standing in front of upholding prayer means after you leave
[22:17]prayer that mindset that you had of ibadah is present in your
[22:23]life when you're at business when you're at work when you're at
[22:27]school when you're with your family you're also in prayer because you're
[22:31]upholding the values of Prayer means and you find and inshallah will
[22:43]conclude with this my dear brothers and sisters prayer is a vehicle
[22:48]of Allah's Mercy in what sense you find we have numerous narrations
[22:52]from the peace be upon them that speak about prayer extinguishing your
[22:59]sins in one Hadith from rasulullah rasulullah states to his companions look
[23:06]at that River across from us he says imagine you were to
[23:15]take five daily baths in that River would there be even a
[23:17]speck of Filth on you after five times bathing and showering the
[23:23]companion said no well obviously you'd be spotless rasulullah said when you
[23:29]pray five times that's your soul your soul becomes spotless prayer as
[23:36]a way of what keeping your soul clean extinguishing that filth which
[23:43]inflicts our souls such is prayer and another narration it said that
[23:53]for every letter that you recite within prayer one thousand sins will
[24:00]be forgiven so when you start prayer with Bismillah how many letters
[24:07]is that that's 19 letters 19 letters how many sins are forgiven
[24:15]nineteen thousand you have only just started your prayer hasn't even been
[24:20]10 seconds and what Allah has already forgiven your sins but this
[24:25]is what when you take when you uphold prayer when you pray
[24:32]while understanding who you're praying towards while understanding the philosophy of prayer
[24:35]when you do record you're offering your head towards when you do
[24:40]sujood what does that mean that oh Allah I am from this
[24:45]to her when you get up what does that mean that Allah
[24:50]has created me and I am on this Earth for a mission
[24:53]for a test not here permanently just for a transitory period when
[24:59]you'll go back to sujood what does that mean that the same
[25:03]way I was from this clay I will be going back to
[25:07]this clay and when you come back for the last time from
[25:09]sujood what does that mean does that mean after I die we
[25:13]become dust everything that's it shows over no that means that there
[25:20]will be a day of reckoning my dear brothers and sisters for
[25:23]every day every hour every minute every second there will be someone
[25:29]who will be asking you how did you spend those days how
[25:32]did you spend those minutes how did you spend those seconds what
[25:36]is our response going to be did we spend our days upholding
[25:42]prayer upholding the values of Prayer we will be asked my dear
[25:47]brothers sisters thus we have to be ready to give an answer
[25:49]if we're not ready we have to make a commitment starting today
[25:53]not tomorrow not after tomorrow do we know if we're going to
[25:56]be alive tomorrow starting today my dear brothers and sisters we ought
[26:01]to be making that commitment to upholding prayer there's a Hadith my
[26:08]dear brothers and sisters as a Hadith in which Allah is the
[26:12]one who is relaying these words this Hadith what's he States if
[26:18]you have one perfect prayer a complete prayer where you have fully
[26:23]upholded Salah that is your ticket to heaven so was it that
[26:29]easy one prayer don't we pray every day but see my dear
[26:33]brothers and sisters the prayer we pray is not like the prayer
[26:37]of rasulullah when we pray do we fully acknowledge who we're standing
[26:43]in front of do we have that full and absolute Focus or
[26:46]are we remembering where we left our car keys and what's for
[26:50]dinner tonight right do we have the absolute and sincerity towards Allah
[26:55]if we can get to such a level says even one of
[27:01]your prayers will be enough will be that ticket to Paradise you
[27:06]find is the embodiment of a man who would pray such a
[27:12]prayer during the battles with rasulullah once was struck by an arrow
[27:18]in his leg they came the other companions to take it out
[27:22]one companion said wait until Amir is in prayer after he was
[27:28]in prayer they took out the era why because so engulfed Within
[27:32]his worship of Allah everything else becomes what sidelined such that he
[27:40]doesn't even feel the pain of what the arrow being taken out
[27:43]this is the kind of prayer we have to strive towards the
[27:49]prayer like rasulullah the prayer of my dear brothers and sisters prayer
[27:56]is very very important especially praying on time my dear brother sisters
[28:01]praying on time is very very important you know what lessons went
[28:07]into showing us how important prayer is on the day of Ashura
[28:12]the companions were taking arrows from the enemies why so that the
[28:16]Imam and his companions could pray many of us you know we're
[28:21]in the middle of work we're traveling oh we're too busy to
[28:23]pray once I finish my work once I get home I'll pray
[28:28]the Imam is in the midst of War and what he wants
[28:32]to set an example for future Generations that even if I'm in
[28:35]the midst of War so what prayer comes first such you find
[28:41]the companions of the Imam that one of them right before the
[28:48]time of prayer reminded the Imam said it's time to pray it's
[28:52]almost time to pray the Imam looked at him he told him
[28:57]may Allah make you meaning someone who has upholded prayer and that
[29:01]is amongst the highest levels of paradise my dear brothers and sisters
[29:07]these are the companions of Abdullah and tonight we commemorate those great
[29:12]figures those great role models for us those companions there was one
[29:19]companion by the name of Webb what happened my dear brothers and
[29:23]sisters was a Christian after getting to know Imam and Hussain peace
[29:28]be upon him he became a Muslim on his hands and he
[29:33]became a fervent follower of ABBA Abdullah the day that Imam and
[29:40]Hussain was leaving Medina he saw the Imam leaving with a caravan
[29:43]he asked him where to where are you going he says I
[29:48]am heading to kufa he says why he says so that I
[29:53]may establish justice within the nation of my grandfather Muhammad he says
[29:58]I'm your servant I will be joining you as well Webb decided
[30:05]to make the sacrifice even though just days before he had gotten
[30:09]married he took his wife and his mother and he joined the
[30:14]Caravan of ABBA Abdullah this young man on the day of Ashura
[30:21]after many of the companions were martyred Habib many of these esteemed
[30:31]companions were being murdered his mother comes to him she tells him
[30:37]what happened do you not see these companions being murdered go and
[30:43]make me proud in front of Lady Zayna peace be upon her
[30:49]so the on the day of judgment when I meet Imam Al
[30:51]hussain's mother Lady Fatima I can be proud telling her my son
[30:56]fought for your son so he bids his mother farewell he goes
[31:01]to his wife to bid her farewell his wife begins telling him
[31:05]we've only just gotten married usually couples in their honeymoon period where
[31:11]do they go they go to Greece they go they have a
[31:13]good time they enjoy their company we've only gotten married you're gonna
[31:19]go now what am I going to do after you die she
[31:23]begins lamenting wab tells her I don't want to go I want
[31:30]to stay with you but my mission towards is not a mission
[31:33]I can neglect when I hear about Abdullah calling how can I
[31:40]refuse so wahab goes he goes to the battlefield he's a young
[31:44]man he fights valiantly he fights courageously he sustained some injuries but
[31:51]he manages to kill and slay some of the enemies when all
[31:54]of a sudden he hears from the camp a voice very familiar
[32:00]he Retreats a little it's the voice of his wife he finds
[32:04]his wife giving him words of encouragement he's surprised just moments ago
[32:10]minutes ago his wife was telling him asking him to refrain from
[32:14]going to the battle so he goes back to the camp he
[32:18]goes to his wife he tells her my wife just moments ago
[32:21]you were telling me not to fight what what happened he says
[32:28]his wife tells him yes I did tell you to refrain from
[32:34]battle but that was before I heard the cries of ABBA Abdullah
[32:36]that was before I heard about Abdullah yelling out Allah foreign is
[32:48]there anyone to protect us is there anyone to relieve the burdens
[32:53]upon the family of rasulullah after I heard that that broke my
[32:59]heart so what happened go and fight go and make ladies in
[33:02]a proud go and make proud one final time before he heads
