[2:15]enlighten your hearts and illuminate your majalis with a loud muhammad respected
[2:28]brothers and sisters we spoke about the problem of evil last night
[2:38]and we said that if there is a kind loving and merciful
[2:43]god then why does he permit all the suffering and pain that
[2:47]exists in the world and we said that this problem has become
[2:52]the leading factor to atheism in this world today that many people
[2:57]simply because they cannot understand how a merciful god can allow all
[3:02]this evil and all this suffering to exist then they decide to
[3:06]disbelieve in god and that's why a reply is necessary to this
[3:12]problem and we spoke about the first answer the first reply last
[3:17]night we said that the notion of evil is relative many times
[3:21]we label something as evil just because it's bad for me even
[3:26]though it may be good for humanity and thus allah subhanahu wa
[3:30]ta'ala many times he permits certain things that we perceive as evil
[3:34]because they're good for other human beings because they're good for humanity
[3:38]as a whole allah subhanahu wa ta'ala looks at the bigger picture
[3:42]so this we spoke about last night and from that point that
[3:46]leads us to the second question that we posed last night why
[3:50]did allah subhanahu wa ta'ala bring us to this world earth because
[3:56]as you know we human beings we pass by many stages many
[4:00]lives for example the first life that's mentioned in the quran is
[4:04]before we even were born before this world there was a world
[4:08]called and then comes our life in our mother's womb and then
[4:14]this life and then our lives in the grave and then after
[4:17]that the hereafter jannah and naar hell and heaven and whatever happens
[4:21]after that and each one of these stages has a purpose we
[4:25]have a job we have a role in each one of these
[4:27]stages what's our job in this stage in this life earth why
[4:31]did allah bring us the holy quran clearly tells us what our
[4:35]goal is in this world allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in the
[4:38]holy quran allah says i created life and death this world why
[4:47]why didn't allah just make it one phase just create us in
[4:50]heaven and that's it allah says i created this world and i
[4:54]created life and death so that i test you i know who's
[5:03]good and who's evil so that can make two groups one group
[5:06]is those that are good that they deserve a reward and the
[5:10]second group is the group of those that are evil and they
[5:13]deserve punishment so brothers and sisters this life that we live in
[5:17]is a huge exam hall and as you know every test every
[5:22]exam has its difficulties it has right answers and it has what
[5:28]wrong answers it has good and it has evil in them take
[5:32]for example the normal tests that you take in schools if we
[5:38]if you've been to school and all of you have been to
[5:40]school here ever since first grade up to twelfth grade and then
[5:44]in in college and universities we have to take hundreds of tests
[5:47]throughout our lives and take the example of a multiple choice test
[5:52]anytime you have a multiple choice test the question has usually four
[5:57]answers and only one of them is right three of them are
[6:01]wrong now if i don't know if you've thought about the wrong
[6:04]answers do you know what's the essence of the wrong answers the
[6:07]wrong answers in a multiple choice test are nothing but evil do
[6:12]you know why what happens if on a test you choose the
[6:16]wrong answer the multiple choice let's say there's 20 questions and each
[6:21]question you choose the wrong answer what happens you fail what happens
[6:25]if you fail two or three tests you be you flunk the
[6:28]class what happens if you flunk the class you don't graduate what
[6:31]happens if you don't graduate you don't get a degree what happens
[6:34]if you don't get a degree you can't get a good job
[6:36]you can't provide for your family you live a life of poverty
[6:40]once i live a life of poverty and i'm not successful i
[6:43]say what i label this as evil what was the source of
[6:46]this evil why did it begin it's because of those wrong answers
[6:49]correct it wasn't for those wrong answers i would have never been
[6:52]in this situation so those wrong answers are evil because they destroy
[6:57]my life they destroy my career who put those wrong answers in
[7:02]the test the devil or the professor the teacher obviously the professor
[7:12]the teacher himself put those wrong answers in the test and he
[7:15]tries to make them hard you see there are some tests they're
[7:18]very difficult it says a b and then c is both a
[7:21]and b and then d is none of the above and those
[7:24]are the most difficult they make it very difficult you have to
[7:28]have studied real well in order to know what's the right answer
[7:31]why do they do that why does the professor do that if
[7:33]you go to your professor your teacher you ask him why did
[7:36]you put the wrong answers what kind of a merciful and loving
[7:39]and good professor are you don't you claim that you're a good
[7:42]professor why do you put all these evil answers well he'll what
[7:45]will he tell you he will tell you yes at the same
[7:48]time that i'm merciful i'm wise the point is you're taking this
[7:52]class to learn why do you come to school to learn right
[7:55]and the only way for you to learn is to study and
[7:58]if there are no wrong answers in the test you're not gonna
[8:01]study if they give you a test with 20 questions each question
[8:05]has four multiple choice answers and each one of the answers is
[8:08]right is there any way to flunk is there any way to
[8:12]fail no will you study for that test or will you not
[8:15]study for that test probably 99% of people they're never gonna study
[8:19]for that test why because they have nothing to fear so it's
[8:23]those wrong answers that what that forces me to go and study
[8:28]or else i'll be lazy i study i get an education i
[8:32]become a learning man so if it wasn't for those wrong answers
[8:36]i would have never studied so you see the point of the
[8:38]wrong answers even though they are evil but their presence is necessary
[8:42]because without them we're never gonna study we won't receive an education
[8:46]and the same thing brothers and sisters applies to allah subhanahu wa
[8:49]ta'ala and that's why you see many people they say why doesn't
[8:53]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala intervene when there is evil in this world
[8:58]why doesn't allah stop all the suffering and the tyranny and the
[9:03]evil this question my friends is as naive as saying why doesn't
[9:09]the professor stop the student from choosing the wrong answer every time
[9:13]the student wants to choose the wrong answer wait wait wait don't
[9:15]do that this might ruin your career would this be a good
[9:19]professor if he does that of course not because the student will
[9:22]never learn anything because he knows anytime that he will make a
[9:26]mistake the professor is right there for him so he's never gonna
[9:29]take the effort to learn so if i say why doesn't allah
[9:32]intervene every time it's the same thing the same reasoning brothers and
[9:38]sisters applies to tests and that's why you find the third question
[9:43]that we posed yesterday that some people they assume that since god
[9:48]is merciful he should get rid of all evil and all suffering
[9:53]of this world this assumption is not necessarily correct where do we
[9:57]get this from what's the basis of this assumption if god is
[10:01]merciful that means there should be no suffering in this world what
[10:04]are we basing this assumption on this is wrong and the easiest
[10:08]way to disprove this assumption is how the easiest way to show
[10:12]that this assumption is wrong is just look at how we human
[10:15]beings raise our children if any of you here are parents then
[10:21]you'll understand this if you're not you will be one day and
[10:24]you'll understand parents brothers and sisters there are times in which a
[10:30]father and mother realize that suffering is inevitable for their child that
[10:36]child will have to suffer for example if the child becomes sick
[10:41]we have to take that child to the doctor and that doctor
[10:45]may afflict that child with some suffering for example vaccination for example
[10:50]a shot because he has a cold or a fever and that
[10:54]shot is a form of suffering because it's painful and sometimes the
[10:57]child after certain vaccines they get fevers for two days they can't
[11:02]sleep they can't eat and they cry the entire night that child
[11:05]has to suffer and i just sit and watch does that mean
[11:10]that i'm not a merciful father does that mean that i'm a
[11:13]bad wicked father or a bad mother because i let this suffering
[11:16]of yes it's a small form of suffering but at the end
[11:19]of the day it's a form of suffering just because i afflict
[11:21]that child with some suffering doesn't mean that i'm evil there is
[11:24]a greater good that's why i allow it likewise there are certain
[11:29]times in which we take away good things from our children if
[11:33]i want to discipline my child and he's misbehaving what do i
[11:35]do i ground them for example or i take away their toys
[11:40]or their belongings i take away their iphone i take away their
[11:45]ipad you know some people when they lose their smartphones in these
[11:49]days they go crazy you've noticed sometimes they're sitting in a gathering
[11:53]and all of a sudden some guy goes crazy he goes like
[11:55]this feel like some something crazy has happened in his life what
[11:59]happened where's my iphone he goes running chasing after his iphone until
[12:02]he finds it so sometimes the worst form of suffering for our
[12:08]children and even some of us adults is if we take away
[12:11]some of our belongings just the iphone the ipad sometimes my son
[12:14]when i take his ipad away i need him to sleep or
[12:17]he's been misbehaving he considers this as the worst form of suffering
[12:22]when i take away his games his ipad and he begins to
[12:25]call me an evil father he thinks that i am the most
[12:28]evil and wicked father just because i take his ipad but is
[12:32]this good for him or is it bad for him twenty years
[12:34]after thirty years after once he grows he'll realize that this was
[12:38]good for him that i was only doing this for his own
[12:41]good brothers and sisters this is exactly how we are with allah
[12:45]subhanahu wa ta'ala don't we love our children but yet we have
[12:48]to discipline them allah subhanahu wa ta'ala does the same thing with
[12:54]us let me tell you this beautiful hadith that one of our
[12:58]imams speaks about but first in the same way that we parents
[13:07]love our children and the most thing that we love in our
[13:10]lives our children the hadith says that allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tells
[13:15]prophet musa one day what does he tell him he tells him
[13:19]the hadith says that god himself he says that out of everything
[13:30]that i have created do you know what allah loves the most
[13:34]out of everything that he created he creates so many things what's
[13:37]the thing that he loves the most the hadith says that god
[13:40]tells musa the most thing i love is a faithful believer like
[13:46]you brothers and sisters that's the most thing that allah subhanahu wa
[13:50]ta'ala loves a believing mumin and then the hadith says after that
[13:56]and that's why if i give anything to the believer to that
[14:03]faithful slave or servant of mine if i give him anything it's
[14:07]for his own good so if allah gives me any wealth or
[14:10]gives me health or gives me children or any other benefaction of
[14:13]allah it's for my own good it's because he loves me but
[14:17]then comes the second part of the question comes the second part
[14:21]but wait a minute there is many times in which allah subhanahu
[14:24]wa ta'ala takes away certain things from us and many of us
[14:27]say god hates me god doesn't love me he took away something
[14:31]from me but the hadith says i give him because i love
[14:34]i love him and then allah says but when i take away
[14:40]something from him when he has a rough time in his life
[14:43]when he comes across a problem i do it because i love
[14:48]him the hadith is clearly saying that allah takes certain things away
[14:53]from us because he loves us subhanallah you say how but when
[14:57]allah takes something away from me i say why did allah do
[15:01]that you see the same way in which our children react to
[15:05]our upbringing and our and how we discipline them we do the
[15:08]same thing with allah when a child says my father or my
[15:12]mother is evil because they forced me to sleep early because i
[15:15]can't eat junk food because they take away my games they're disciplining
[15:18]him they consider this as bad we do the same thing with
[15:21]allah when allah takes something away from me it's because it's better
[15:25]for me how is it better for me i don't understand in
[15:28]the same way the child doesn't understand how taking these things away
[15:31]from our good we don't understand how allah wants this for my
[15:35]better but the same immature mentality that kids have with us we
[15:40]have with allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and that's why brothers and sisters
[15:44]the hadith listen carefully the hadith the beautiful hadith of imam ali
[15:49]ibn abi talib alaihi salam says he says never say this this
[15:56]is something that we should never say if you remember two nights
[15:59]ago when i spoke about tawbah repentance i mentioned one thing that
[16:03]according to the hadith we should never think of or say what
[16:07]was it never say god won't forgive me because this itself will
[16:11]be a sin that was the first thing that we should never
[16:14]say this is the second thing that we should never say the
[16:17]hadith of the imam says never say never say this the imam
[16:26]says never say oh allah i seek refuge in you from problems
[16:31]from being tested don't say you allah don't test me never say
[16:35]you allah i want a problem free life never say that why
[16:42]because we already mentioned the whole purpose of this life was to
[16:45]be tested and tests are gonna be difficult so when you say
[16:48]you allah i don't wanna be tested that means you're asking allah
[16:50]to take you out of this world because this entire world is
[16:53]a test but then the imam says what a beautiful hadith he
[17:05]says if you want to do a dua say it in this
[17:08]way he teaches us how to pray to allah he says don't
[17:11]say allah you allah i want a problem free life because as
[17:14]they say it's an oxymoron this life means there's gonna be problems
[17:18]so don't say i want a problem free life doesn't make sense
[17:20]so what's the correct dua that i have to do the imam
[17:23]says if you want to do a dua say this allah i
[17:31]seek refuge in you from problems that weaken my faith a problem
[17:38]that takes me away from allah seek refuge in allah from that
[17:42]tell allah you allah please i know there's gonna be difficulties in
[17:45]my life i know you're gonna try me there's gonna be hardships
[17:48]but please don't try me in a way in which it will
[17:51]affect affect my iman my faith and subhanallah this topic that we're
[17:55]speaking about you find many of these atheists the reason why they
[17:58]become atheists is why is because there was a tragedy in his
[18:02]life look at their lives you'll find when he was young he
[18:05]was orphaned or she was orphaned or a family member died when
[18:08]they were older or they had a very very difficult disease and
[18:11]they say if there is a merciful god then why did he
[18:14]allow this to happen to me subhanallah the imam says this is
[18:17]what you have to seek refuge in that when allah tries you
[18:20]instead of being stronger and thanking allah subhanallah and being patient you
[18:24]drift away from allah subhanallah you say there is no god because
[18:27]there is evil in this world so this is a dua that
[18:30]we have to always read you allah do not try me in
[18:33]a way in which i will go far from you do not
[18:37]try me in a way in which my iman will become weak
[18:41]and that's why brothers and sisters like i mentioned the hadith allah
[18:44]says that there is nothing that i love more than abdiyyah al
[18:47]mu'min when i give him something it's for his own good when
[18:50]i take away something it's for his own good but when allah
[18:53]gives us we see that's good when he takes away something we
[18:56]see it right away we say we assume that allah hates us
[18:59]how many people you've seen communities that when they see someone that's
[19:04]wealthy they say oh this man allah subhanahu wa ta'ala must love
[19:08]him and when we see someone who's not so successful when we
[19:12]see someone who has a disease and may god forbid a fatal
[19:14]disease we say allah doesn't love him and that's why it's typical
[19:18]for a human being that when he suffers from a problem what
[19:21]does he say you allah why me so he has the assumption
[19:25]that god hates him this is bad and then he asks why
[19:28]me but when you come to the hadith of al al bayt
[19:31]you find it's exactly the opposite and let me read you the
[19:35]hadith of al al bayt the hadith of al al al bayt
[19:39]he says in this beautiful hadith when allah loves someone do you
[19:53]know what he does to that person when i love my child
[19:55]what do i do there are certain ways in which i i
[19:57]i express my love towards the child when allah loves me what
[20:01]does he do showers me with his mercy yes of course but
[20:04]how that means gives me money that means give me ease no
[20:07]problems no the hadith says that when allah loves someone allah will
[20:14]test him in a difficult way allah will add problems in his
[20:18]life and another hadith the holy prophet he was asked one day
[20:22]who are the people that suffer the most in this world do
[20:26]you know what the imam said in this hadith he said the
[20:29]people that suffer most in this world are the prophets and ironically
[20:34]the prophets are the people that allah loves most they're the closest
[20:38]people to allah but they suffer the most and then the prophet
[20:42]says and then the best of the best so the prophet says
[20:48]the more iman you have the more allah will test you the
[20:51]more difficult the test will be that's why if you have a
[20:54]problem in your life don't see it as if allah doesn't love
[20:56]you the hadith tells us it's exactly the opposite allah loves the
[21:01]prophet much more than me but look at the history of the
[21:03]prophet the prophet suffered so much in his life brothers and sisters
[21:05]does that mean allah subhanahu wa ta'ala does not love him of
[21:09]course not so allah subhanahu wa ta'ala when my i'm having problems
[21:13]and adversaries in my life adversities in my life that means allah
[21:17]subhanahu wa ta'ala may love me that's why he's doing it to
[21:19]me and in fact on the other hand when we see someone
[21:24]who has no problems in his life or he has less problems
[21:27]in his life we say allah loves this person this person is
[21:30]lucky the hadith tells us it's exactly the opposite listen to the
[21:33]story the narration says that one day rasulullah he goes to the
[21:41]house of someone because he's invited for lunch so as he enters
[21:45]the house he's in the front yard there is a wall it's
[21:47]a very thin wall and on top of the wall there was
[21:52]no roof it's a it's a courtyard so on top of the
[21:55]wall was very thin there was a chicken and that chicken as
[22:00]soon as rasulullah went it gave an egg it brought an egg
[22:04]now that egg was a very thin wall so that egg it
[22:07]toppled off the wall there was a nail that nail was sticking
[22:11]out of the wall so a nail is very very thin that
[22:15]egg fell on the nail and it landed perfectly on it and
[22:19]it stopped can you imagine so usually an egg you just you
[22:23]know throw it a couple of centimeters it'll break but it fell
[22:26]from the wall on the nail and it stayed standing on the
[22:29]on on the nail so rasulullah was amazed you know that's something
[22:32]very awkward very weird so the man he looked at rasulullah the
[22:36]man of the house you know the the invitation he looked at
[22:39]rasulullah tells me rasulullah are you surprised don't be surprised i'm a
[22:42]very lucky man i've seen so many such things in my life
[22:45]i'm a very lucky man even that egg won't break my luck
[22:49]is that good and then he says some words that rasulullah was
[22:54]very disturbed you know what he says he says you rasulullah i'm
[22:57]so lucky that i have never had a problem in my life
[23:01]do you know what rasulullah does he was eating the hadith says
[23:04]he was eating from the food of that man it was lunchtime
[23:06]rasulullah stopped eating he got up and he left but before he
[23:10]left you know what he said he said if allah has never
[23:13]tried you in your life if you have absolutely no problems in
[23:17]your life that doesn't mean you're lucky that means there's something wrong
[23:20]with you because if allah loves someone that means he showers him
[23:25]with problems so if you say that allah has never tried me
[23:29]in my life and i have absolutely no problems you should reassess
[23:32]your life you should reassess your relationship with allah because there's something
[23:37]wrong with you but we have the complete opposite perception that if
[23:43]allah gives me and gives me and gives me i'm good but
[23:46]if allah takes away from that means allah hates me that means
[23:48]i'm unlucky allah is showing us that it's exactly the opposite but
[23:53]the question is here how why why is it that when allah
[23:58]loves someone he tries him more and more he sends more problems
[24:03]in his life his life becomes more and more difficult it doesn't
[24:07]make sense why and this is where we have to go back
[24:10]to the fourth question that we raised yesterday brothers and sisters what
[24:14]are the benefits of suffering you see we human beings do not
[24:18]like suffering we hate suffering we hate pain but the unfortunate fact
[24:22]is that suffering is important for us suffering is very beneficial for
[24:27]the human being and that's why tonight i'll quickly mention four there
[24:31]are four main benefits that the human being can get from suffering
[24:38]the first benefit of suffering and this is why allah he allows
[24:42]human beings to suffer and the more allah loves me the more
[24:45]i may suffer because of these benefits number one suffering and pain
[24:50]brothers and sisters it helps the human being to develop it builds
[24:56]the character of the human being and makes him very strong you
[25:00]see i'm sure many of you especially the guys here many of
[25:02]you have been to the gym and you work out and you
[25:07]try to build those muscles but if you think about it when
[25:11]you're working out what are you doing what are you really doing
[25:14]when you're working out all you're doing is suffering isn't it is
[25:21]it fun to work out now maybe it's fun because you know
[25:24]that you're gonna have that six pack but it's not meanwhile it's
[25:28]not fun it's pain and that's why you find so many people
[25:31]they have problems with obesity why because it's not easy to lose
[25:35]that weight it's not easy to build those muscles if it was
[25:37]easy we had no fat people in this world so it's difficult
[25:40]it's difficult in essence what you're doing is you're applying pressure to
[25:44]your muscles the more pressure the more difficulty the greater the muscles
[25:49]will be right the stronger you the stronger you become now i
[25:54]do it over and over and over again until i have strong
[25:58]muscles if there is no pain they say there's no gain now
[26:02]this is with the body we have a body brothers and sisters
[26:06]and likewise we have a soul the souls of many of us
[26:09]brothers and sisters are very weak and there is no better way
[26:14]i tell you there is no better way to strengthen the soul
[26:18]than through suffering than through the hardships than through the difficulties of
[26:22]life because that's the best way that i can develop my nefs
[26:27]i can develop my soul i can develop my soul in the
[26:31]same way i have to build my body i have to build
[26:35]my nefs and that's why brothers and sisters you find look at
[26:39]the lives of the great individuals that lived in this world so
[26:42]many great people great leaders great philosophers great thinkers what you will
[26:47]find in common between most of them is what is that if
[26:50]you read their biographies you'll find that all of them or most
[26:54]of them they went through a phase in their lives which was
[26:58]very very rough and difficult either they were orphans their mother their
[27:03]father was killed or died when they were young or they faced
[27:07]a very difficult disease or they were abused when they were young
[27:11]or for example they were imprisoned when they were young and it
[27:15]was through those difficulties that they were able to build their character
[27:19]and be so strong a leader a philosopher or whatever i remember
[27:23]i had a a teacher when i went to the seminary in
[27:27]iran and i sat with that teacher one day and he was
[27:30]giving us some advice on how to build our character and become
[27:33]strong and how to lead and he said some words that truly
[27:37]affected me and i never forget them he said that when i
[27:42]was in iraq when i was young i was studying i was
[27:44]amongst the people that saddam he arrested me and put me in
[27:48]prison for no reason i had absolutely committed no crime he said
[27:52]i was in prison for one year and he so i asked
[27:55]him i told him it must have been the worst year of
[27:57]your of your life do you know what he told me he
[27:59]said that year was the best year in my life he said
[28:02]not that i enjoyed it he said i suffered in that prison
[28:06]he said it was difficult but he said there was nothing that
[28:10]built my character and made me strong like that one year in
[28:13]the prison when i came out i felt so strong if i
[28:17]was able to endure that prison of saddam there's nothing that can
[28:20]stand in my way and that's why he says that's his view
[28:23]he says i believe that anyone that wants to become a leader
[28:26]and be strong he has to be in prison at least one
[28:28]year it's only in that way can he strengthen his nafs his
[28:32]soul build his character so this is number one suffering develops us
[28:40]brothers and sisters it makes us stronger that's number one number two
[28:45]you find that suffering many times it changes the human being to
[28:49]the better you see many of us were indulged in the materialistic
[28:55]world all we think about is our desires and our fun and
[28:59]our entertainment and we're so preoccupied with our desires and meanwhile we
[29:05]commit so many sins a sin here a sin there like i
[29:08]mentioned two nights ago until we see a huge mountain of sins
[29:12]we're drowning we're completely asleep in this dunya we forget about our
[29:15]goal that this is only a short life and we have a
[29:18]job sometimes allah subhanahu wa ta'ala he tries me he sends me
[29:23]a problem in order to what in order to wake me up
[29:26]there's there is brothers and sisters moves the human being like a
[29:30]tragedy and that's why you see there's many people that they start
[29:34]working for you know they become activists and advocates for disease victims
[29:40]you find most of them the reason the drive behind you know
[29:44]this this sympathy that they have for those victims is what is
[29:47]because they themselves were a victim one day so the greatest and
[29:52]most effective thing that will move the human being to change is
[29:57]what is a tragedy allah sends so many messages to us my
[30:02]dear servant you're so far away from me he sent the quran
[30:06]dua centers islamic centers lectures internet there's so many beautiful lectures but
[30:11]we're busy in our lives we're sleeping allah subhanahu wa ta'ala sees
[30:14]that sometimes the only thing that will change me and wake me
[30:17]up is if he takes away something valuable from me only then
[30:20]do i remember only then am i reminded only then do i
[30:23]wake up and realize what's going on let me share this story
[30:27]with you i went to a community one year to give lectures
[30:32]and one night a mother she comes and she says i have
[30:37]a personal matter with you so she comes to the side and
[30:40]she starts crying she says my son has given me such a
[30:44]headache what's wrong he's such an ungrateful son he's so bad he
[30:48]does drugs girlfriends alcohol all the haram i tried to tell him
[30:53]come listen to the lecture pray nothing he's so far away from
[30:55]religion from allah complained so much about her son so i told
[30:59]her to bring him one day let me speak to him she
[31:01]had to force him she had to drag him to the madness
[31:03]one night because he wouldn't want to come he wanted to watch
[31:06]some certain games i don't know what was the the playoffs or
[31:08]something so she had to force him to come to the masjid
[31:12]when he came i started to speak with him you know encouraging
[31:15]him admonish him but i saw there's no use he left the
[31:20]next year i came mothers and sisters and to my surprise i
[31:24]noticed that this young man is the first person that comes to
[31:28]the lecture every night you see some people they come in the
[31:30]beginning some people they come at the end of the lecture this
[31:34]person was amongst those that was there even before i went he
[31:38]was the first one at the masjid and the last one to
[31:41]leave he would read the quran he would read the duas he
[31:44]would cry in the middle of the duas i saw this young
[31:46]man it's impossible he's the same man that his mother was complaining
[31:50]about last year he had completely transformed so i was surprised so
[31:55]one night the end of the at the end of the ten
[31:58]days that i was there i tell him can i speak to
[32:00]you he comes and i tell him remember last year your mother
[32:03]had to force you and she's you're so bad and you're giving
[32:05]her such a hard time this year you've changed what happened and
[32:09]when i told him a tear came down from his eye and
[32:12]he says sayed i have a very sad story that happened in
[32:17]my life what happened he said yes i was on my devious
[32:22]way until a few months ago a few months ago me and
[32:27]my friend were driving and we're listening to music and laughing and
[32:33]i'm driving and my friend is in the passenger seat and i
[32:36]start to speed crazily and all of a sudden there's a huge
[32:40]accident the car is totaled me nothing really happened to me i
[32:45]just had a broken arm or a broken foot but my friend
[32:49]he went into a coma he went into a coma and for
[32:52]one month he was in that coma and then he died he
[32:55]says sayyid this friend of mine was my best friend ever since
[32:58]we were little children i grew up with him we went to
[33:01]the same school i do everything with him i cannot live without
[33:04]him and i saw that just like that he died and what
[33:08]makes it worse he says is that i see that it's my
[33:10]fault because i was the one that was driving and and and
[33:13]and the way that we died we were so reckless listening to
[33:16]music laughing speeding in that way subhanallah i remember last year i
[33:20]saw a clip on instagram a fifteen second clip which all clips
[33:24]by the way are fifteen seconds on instagram so he says that
[33:27]i saw a clip i'm sorry i saw a clip that you
[33:31]know it was news some some you know some guy puts news
[33:34]every day of someone who's speeding on the highway he's going very
[33:40]fast and he's listening to music and laughing subhanahu every time i
[33:43]remember this story remember that clip he's speeding and all of a
[33:46]sudden and he's recording too i don't know why he's just recording
[33:49]the road so he's speeding and you could hear the obnoxious music
[33:52]all of a sudden the truck in front of him it takes
[33:54]a left turn he crashes into that turn and the you know
[33:57]the camera just the car topples and the camera stops and then
[34:01]it's it says that this was the last seconds of this young
[34:04]man can you imagine what a sad death you have that the
[34:07]last seconds of your life you spend it disobeying allah that when
[34:11]the angel of death comes to take my soul he sees this
[34:13]guy who's listening to music never prayed so this young man he
[34:17]says ever since that day sayyid i transformed i saw that death
[34:22]was so close to me i could have died as well my
[34:25]friend who i never imagined would die so young he died right
[34:29]in front of me and it was my fault so i realized
[34:32]how close death is to me just one accident everything could add
[34:35]brothers and sisters it doesn't require too much i don't have to
[34:39]god doesn't have to wait six months one year in a disease
[34:41]no he could take everything in a split second and you have
[34:45]i'm sure you've heard of hundreds of stories like this so after
[34:49]he told me this story i i thought subhanallah how sad i
[34:52]thought that it required in order for this young man to become
[34:56]religious in order for him to wake up and return to allah
[35:00]subhanahu wa ta'ala his poor friend had to die die do you
[35:04]see sometimes we give such a such a a great we we
[35:10]pay such a a big price in order for allah subhanahu ta'ala
[35:13]to to pay us don't wait till that day brother and sisters
[35:16]don't wait until allah sends that tragedy and only then i wake
[35:20]up only then i say oh my god i was so lost
[35:23]so this is number two and that's why you find the hadith
[35:27]of rasulullah he says it's such a beautiful hadith he says he
[35:40]says if it was not for three things the human being would
[35:43]never bring his head down he would always be so arrogant he
[35:47]would never be humble if it wasn't for three things what are
[35:50]those three things the prophet says number one sickness why did allah
[35:56]create sickness isn't it evil think about it maybe allah made the
[36:00]system in a way in which there is sickness so that i
[36:04]the human being am constantly remembered that i am in need of
[36:07]allah don't be arrogant you could a fatal disease can come and
[36:10]kill you in a couple of days so he says number one
[36:13]marav if it wasn't for sickness the human being would be so
[36:16]arrogant but sickness it forces the human being see there are certain
[36:20]sicknesses just go to the hospital and see that they are so
[36:24]disturbing and the the prophet says if it wasn't for this sickness
[36:30]the human being would be so arrogant that's number one number two
[36:33]he says al faqar poverty you see sometimes the human being you
[36:36]see him he's in in such a bad condition and he's so
[36:40]poor that he can't even find food to eat you say subhanallah
[36:43]this poor human can't even can't even nourish himself so this is
[36:47]number two and number three he says death if it wasn't for
[36:52]death human beings would be so arrogant but we know that even
[36:56]if i am the most ruthless and arrogant dictator in a few
[36:59]days me and that poor peasant will be equal both of us
[37:04]will be placed six feet under and then the prophet says he
[37:13]says all of these three things allah has placed allah has plagued
[37:17]the human being with and here you find the human being is
[37:19]still so arrogant the human being is plagued with sickness with death
[37:23]and with poverty and yet you see some human beings they're so
[37:26]arrogant he's 80 years old he's it's as if he owns the
[37:28]entire world he thinks he can buy everyone else he thinks he
[37:32]owns everything imam ali ibn abi talib alaihi salam he says in
[37:41]a beautiful hadith he says he says the human being is so
[37:47]poor you know he says i feel so bad for the human
[37:51]being why he says look look at how weak the human being
[37:55]is he says to he says a small fly a mosquito can
[38:00]drive the human being crazy it's this small it can drive the
[38:05]human being completely crazy and that's why they say that one day
[38:08]in one hadith it says that imam al saddiq was sitting in
[38:13]the majlis of the caliph of that time the king of that
[38:16]time al mansur and all of a sudden mansur is the king
[38:19]he's so powerful he has a huge kingdom a fly enters the
[38:22]majdahs it begins to bother al mansur he tries to kill it
[38:27]he can't you see how sometimes flies we try to kill them
[38:30]and without those you know those things that kill the flies you
[38:32]can never kill that fly it's just too fast for us so
[38:36]he wants to kill it he can he's so irritated then he
[38:39]looks at imam saddiq and he says why did allah subhanahu wa
[38:42]ta'ala create the fly to begin with it's so annoying look at
[38:45]the answer of imam saddiq he says he says allah created the
[38:50]fly to humiliate dictators like you you're so powerful you have such
[38:56]a huge kingdom and then a small fly comes and ruins your
[38:59]day allah shows you you're nothing don't be arrogant so the imam
[39:03]says and then he says do you know how easily the human
[39:11]being can die if he drinks water and he chokes the human
[39:14]being could easily die how many people you you find that they
[39:17]died because they choked on water not too many but it could
[39:19]happen sometimes when we're drinking we begin to suffocate we choke we're
[39:23]about to die so one drop of water can kill me and
[39:26]then he says just one drop of sweat can make the human
[39:32]being stink in the worst way if you've thought about it brothers
[39:36]and sisters the human being is nothing but a filth producing machine
[39:42]it's a machine that produces filth just try it one week don't
[39:46]take a shower but please if you try it don't come to
[39:48]the majdahs place stay home one week if the human being doesn't
[39:53]take a shower what's gonna happen he'll be the most disgusting thing
[39:56]in the world just one week and nothing's happening to him he's
[39:59]just not taking a shower so it's not like we're taking filth
[40:02]and placing it on him he produces the filth so many types
[40:06]of filth so he says look at the human being he's so
[40:08]filthy he's so weak but yet he comes out there's certain people
[40:13]that say i am god for example nammroud you see namrud he
[40:16]was the dictator during the time of ibrahim he used to say
[40:19]i am god do you know how namrud died they say a
[40:24]fly that same fly that annoyed probably al mansur later or one
[40:29]of the descendants of that fly a fly went into his nose
[40:33]one day it went up up into his nose or probably it
[40:36]was a either a fly or a mosquito or something of that
[40:38]nature it went into his nose it went so up he wanted
[40:41]to take it out he couldn't and it was annoying him so
[40:44]he brought the best doctors they couldn't back then this was two
[40:47]thousand three thousand years ago they couldn't take it out they said
[40:50]it's gone too far there's no way we can take it out
[40:52]so what happens he notices that if he hits himself on the
[40:55]head it becomes much better so he slaps his head on the
[40:59]face it's like a pain killer so he begins just to slap
[41:03]himself on the face every day until his hands are tired so
[41:07]he tells his minister he tells one of his advisors hit me
[41:10]on the head so his adviser comes and he slaps him on
[41:13]the head his adviser is tired his all the other advisers whoever's
[41:16]in the palace they're all tired so they make a public announcement
[41:19]whoever wants a reward all they have to do come and hit
[41:22]namrud the king on the head people pile up it's their you
[41:25]know it's the best day of their lives that they're being paid
[41:28]to hit the dictator so they stand in lines and each one
[41:32]slaps him probably swears at him in in in in in his
[41:35]heart so until they say one of them those people he was
[41:39]standing in line he was supposed to slap him with his hand
[41:42]he took out a hammer he hit him on his head and
[41:44]he died this was the end of a man an arrogant man
[41:47]that said i am god and he challenged the god of ibrahim
[41:51]so you see many times allah subhanahu wa ta'ala places these sufferings
[41:54]and these problems so that we are always reminded allah subhanahu wa
[41:59]ta'ala is the only god allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is the one
[42:02]that we need and there is no one besides him that can
[42:05]help us so this is number two number three i'm running out
[42:08]of time a little so i'll quickly mention this number three allah
[42:12]subhanahu wa ta'ala sometimes he afflicts us and he lets suffering happen
[42:16]to purify us why because many of us all of us we're
[42:20]not infallible we commit sins we commit haram we commit so many
[42:24]so much injustice allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says this person deserves the
[42:28]fires of hell because of all this injustice but yet because of
[42:31]allah's mercy he says what instead of punishing him in the next
[42:36]life in the akhirah in the hells in the fires of hell
[42:38]which are so severe let me purify him in this dunya through
[42:42]what through poverty through sickness there are so many ahadith that tell
[42:46]us that allah when he wants to show mercy to someone what
[42:49]does he do he gives them a problem free life no he
[42:53]tries him with sickness with poverty with fear and so many other
[42:58]so many other forms of suffering why so this burns away our
[43:02]sins so that we become pure and that's why you see imam
[43:06]ali ibn abid so beautifully he says in dua in dua kumail
[43:11]he speaks about this how the adab of the next life is
[43:14]so much more severe than the adab of this life that's why
[43:17]allah says let me punish you here because it's much easier than
[43:20]if i punish you in the next life imam amir al mumineen
[43:23]he says says you allah you know how weak i am i
[43:46]cannot bear the sufferings of this world even though the sufferings of
[43:50]this world are so short and they're not so severe then the
[43:54]imam says if i cannot bear the sufferings of this world you
[44:07]think i will bear the sufferings of the next life never the
[44:10]next life is much more severe and permanent than this world so
[44:13]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala some of the suffering that we face is
[44:17]to burn away those sins that we have accumulated on our backs
[44:20]that's number three and number four brothers and sisters the reward that
[44:24]that allah has promised for any individual that suffers is unimaginable and
[44:32]i'll read just few hadith one hadith the imam says it's so
[44:36]beautiful it says if the mu'min knew how much allah will give
[44:49]him reward for the problems and the sufferings that he faces in
[44:54]this world he would have wished that he was cut into pieces
[44:58]in this world because the reward is just too much it's worth
[45:02]it and in another hadith the prophet says and that's the imam
[45:06]says if allah subhanahu wa ta'ala makes you suffer if you suffer
[45:19]in this world but you have patience you don't complain you say
[45:22]what type of lord is this why me have patience allah will
[45:26]write you the ajar of how of what 1,000 shaheed 1,000 martyrs
[45:31]that go and give their lives for allah subhanahu wa ta'ala think
[45:34]about it something as small as a sickness there's tawab for it
[45:37]if you have patience the imam says sahar laylamin maraf avghal min
[45:41]ibadat sunnah just one night if allah afflicts me with a cold
[45:46]just a cold or a fever the imam says the reward of
[45:50]that that suffering is greater than worshiping allah for one year so
[45:56]don't think this is just going you know for no reason allah
[46:00]is there and he's looking out for our interest and you'll find
[46:04]there is no one that suffered more than in this world you
[46:08]find they are the best creation of allah but they suffered the
[46:14]most and that's why you see the imams the hadith says the
[46:19]imam says every single one of us imams was was either killed
[46:23]by the sword or by poison the imams you think they had
[46:27]an easy life the imams were insulted they were imprisoned some of
[46:30]them lived lives of poverty the imams had all the problems that
[46:34]we have and much much more but yet they never complained because
[46:38]they knew this is what makes them great if i have patience
[46:41]and i face all these calamities and tragedies with patience this is
[46:46]when i become great this is when i become a leader for
[46:49]others they knew that they will inspire others their patience will inspire
[46:54]others for centuries upon centuries and you see ashura the day of
[46:58]ashura was the climax of tragedies like i mentioned in the previous
[47:03]lectures there is no tragedy worse than the day of ashura and
[47:08]who did those tragedies fall upon they fell upon imam al hussein
[47:12]how can one man bear all these tragedies brothers and sisters you
[47:17]see but like i mentioned the more that the calamities used to
[47:20]pile up the more patient the imam would be can you imagine
[47:24]how patient the imam was the imam takes his little baby to
[47:28]the enemies he wants water instead they have to slay his little
[47:31]baby in his hands and imam al hussain this is the man
[47:34]that has the softest heart this is the man that would cry
[47:38]for his enemies he gave water to his enemies he had to
[47:41]see his own baby die and and be killed in his hands
[47:44]can you imagine how difficult it was for imam hussain but the
[47:48]imam was patient and that's why the imam inspired millions of people
[47:52]after him you see that the imam on the day of ashura
[47:55]he had to see his beautiful companions one by one one after
[47:59]the other they went to the battlefield but they never returned the
[48:03]night of ashura history tells us that imam al hussein he gathered
[48:07]his companions and he told them look the enemies they want me
[48:12]they don't want you so if anyone of you feels that they
[48:15]are burdened because of me if anyone of you wants to leave
[48:18]you're free and in order for you subhanallah look at how soft
[48:21]his heart he doesn't even want them to feel ashamed about it
[48:24]he says if anyone of you wants to leave but you're ashamed
[48:27]we'll turn off the candle so nobody sees you so they turn
[48:30]off the candles imam al hussein a few minutes after he tells
[48:34]them turn the candles on he looks he sees none of them
[48:37]have moved he tells them you're gonna stay my dear companions they
[48:41]tell him we will never leave you zuhayr ibn al qa'im this
[48:45]loyal companion of hussain look at his answer he tells him you
[48:49]hussain wallahi if i was killed for you and my body was
[48:53]to be cut a thousand times and then it was burnt and
[48:56]then my ashes my body were to be dispersed in the air
[49:00]and then i would be revived and that would be done to
[49:02]me 1,000 times wallahi i would never leave you do you see
[49:07]the loyalty of the companions of imam al hussein and that's why
[49:11]they were so dear to his heart imam al hussein says i
[49:18]have never seen or heard of companions that are more loyal than
[49:22]my companions look at how they speak to their imam if 1,000
[49:26]times i'm killed for you i will not move yahusayn and on
[49:29]the day of ashura one after the other they went in the
[49:32]battlefield and they were killed you see muslim ibn al sajjad this
[49:36]other companion of the imam he goes to the battlefield and after
[49:41]he is struck he's on the floor at habib ibn mubahir he
[49:44]comes with imam al hussein habib ibn mubahir he tells him you
[49:48]muslim do you have any final wishes do you have anything i
[49:52]you want you want me to do for you look at muslim
[49:54]ibn asaja look at his high level of imam look at his
[49:57]loyalty to imam al hussain he looks at aba abdullah al hussain
[50:01]and he tells him all i have to tell you is protect
[50:08]aba abdullah al hussain as long as you're alive don't let anyone
[50:13]lay a finger on hussein he's dying he's in his blood but
[50:16]all he's thinking is hussein this these were the loyal companions of
[50:20]hussein habib ibn muldahir he came late imam al hussein was expecting
[50:24]him all of a sudden he arrives to karabbalah once he arrives
[50:28]to karabbalah as soon as he comes down from his horse he
[50:31]goes and he begins to kiss the feet of abba abdullah and
[50:35]he tells him my dear master hussein may my life be sacrificed
[50:38]for you and then sayyidah zaynab she hears that habib has come
[50:42]she asks who is it they tell her it's habib she tells
[50:45]them tell habib that zaynab sends her salam they tell habib zaynab
[50:51]says salam to you he says who am i that zaynab says
[50:54]salam to me i am not worthy to receive the salam of
[50:58]zaynab do you see the companions of hussein that's why everyone that
[51:02]would go and kill imam al hussein he was very very disturbed
[51:06]and saddened with that on the day of ashura they all go
[51:09]to the battlefield until none of them remain imam al hussein begins
[51:17]to feel lonely between the enemies he notices that there are no
[51:22]more or any of the companions lying at he goes on a
[51:28]hill all he could see from his companions is their bloody mutilated
[51:34]bodies on the land of karbala he begins to call their names
[51:40]one after the other my loyal companions where are you i need
[51:51]you now between the enemies why is it that i call you
[52:05]but you do not answer me are you asleep is this why

[52:17]will be killed for you i need you now says rise my
[52:36]loyal companions rise from your death and please protect the woman of
[52:40]rasulullah protect your imam he is all alone between the enemies the
[52:45]hadith of imam al baqirah says that when the imam said those
[52:48]words the bodies of the companions began to shake if there was
[52:52]one breath left in them they would have all came to support
[52:55]tabah abdullah and then the imam began to yell is there no
[53:07]one to protect the grandson of rasulullah is there no one that
[53:11]wants to protect the woman of rasulullah brothers and sisters let us
[54:28]all raise our hands and supplicate to allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
