[0:02][Music] The Holy Quran is an endless ocean, very vast.
[0:30]vast and very deep, full of treasures.
[0:34]And every time you dive in this vast ocean in search of
[0:38]those treasures, you find something new.
[0:41]One of the marvels of the Holy Quran is the structure of
[0:47]its chapters and verses.
[0:47]And today, you'll find many highlighting the miraculous ring composition of the
[0:55]Holy Quran.
[0:56]Ring composition is basically a type of symmetrical structure in which for
[1:01]instance the two halves of a story mirror each other.
[1:07]You basically present a sequence of events or ideas and then the
[1:15]same sequence is repeated in reverse order.
[1:16]I'll give you an example of a short story so you can
[1:20]see how this works.
[1:22]Sale arrives at the mosque.
[1:25]He takes a Quran from the shelf and he reads it.
[1:30]Now he sees a newcomer who does not know how to pray
[1:34]come into the mosque.
[1:35]Teaches him how to pray.
[1:41]Then Sal returns the Quran back to the shelf.
[1:42]Sal leaves the mosque.
[1:44]You can see clearly the ring structure that is evident in this
[1:52]very short story.
[1:53]There's basically six events that happen in the story.
[1:58]You've got one, two, three events and then you reach the half
[2:02]point and then you've got another three.
[2:04]You see arrives at the mosque.
[2:07]This was the first event.
[2:10]What was the last event that mirrors it?
[2:13]Sal leaves the mosque which is event six.
[2:17]The second event is Sal takes the Quran and reads it.
[2:19]That's mirrored by the second to last event which is the fifth
[2:25]event.
[2:24]He returns back the Quran.
[2:27]Number three is a man doesn't know how to pray.
[2:32]He enters the masjid.
[2:33]What events mirrors it?
[2:37]Number four which is teaches him how to pray.
[2:38]This is a simple example of symmetry in a in a short
[2:45]story.
[2:46]Now, literary analysts have noticed that many chapters of the Quran or
[2:50]even stories of the Quran are based on this symmetry with a
[2:55]ring structure.
[2:57]And that's truly one of the marvels of the Holy Quran.
[2:59]When you examine the beauty of it, you're truly mesmerized.
[3:03]Let's apply this to the story of prophet Ysef Alisam.
[3:08]One of the most fascinating stories of the holy Quran.
[3:12]You find this in surah yusf chapter number 12 of the holy
[3:14]Quran.
[3:15]We can divide this chapter into 12 main parts.
[3:19]Let's see how the ring structure works here.
[3:24]Event number one.
[3:27]Youngfam sees a dream.
[3:28]The sun, the moon, the 11 stars or planets prostrating to him.
[3:32]The second event, his brothers are aware of this dream.
[3:36]They become jealous of him.
[3:37]They come up with a plan to kill him.
[3:39]But then they decide to exile him.
[3:42]They sell him as a slave.
[3:46]The third event, Zlea, who's the wife of the Aiz, of the
[3:50]minister in Egypt, Egypt.
[3:53]She owns Yousef.
[3:52]She tries to seduce him.
[3:54]When he refuses, she schemes against him.
[3:58]The fourth event brings those women.
[4:01]They're in awe of the beauty of Prophet Ysef Alam.
[4:06]They try to seduce him.
[4:10]The fifth event, Prophet Ysef Alisam is imprisoned.
[4:12]Why?
[4:13]Because he refused the seduction of Zaha and those women.
[4:18]Now we come to the sixth event.
[4:20]And in this sixth event, the king of Egypt, he sees a
[4:26]dream and he wants someone to interpret it.
[4:29]Now we reach the half point of the story.
[4:32]We've got these six events.
[4:33]Number seven, we're now going back up in reverse order.
[4:36]Prophet Ysef Alisam while in prison, he gives an interpretation that the
[4:43]king finds valid.
[4:43]So you see how now this matches the dream that the king
[4:50]sees.
[4:48]Prophet Ysef Alisam gives an explanation to that dream.
[4:53]The eighth event which is now mirroring which event on the other
[4:57]side?
[4:58]The fifth event, Prophet Ysef Alam is released from prison.
[5:04]The king wants to know who he is.
[5:07]The ninth event, the king summons the ladies.
[5:09]They admit that Prophet Ysef Alam didn't do anything wrong.
[5:12]They're the ones who accused him.
[5:14]The 10th event, Zaha admits that Prophet Ysef did nothing wrong.
[5:20]She confessed that it was her wrongdoing.
[5:23]The 11th event, Prophet Ysef Alam, he meets his brothers.
[5:25]They eventually recognize him.
[5:26]He reminds them of their past and injustice.
[5:29]They apologize.
[5:32]Allah forgives them.
[5:32]The last event, the dream of Prophet Ysef Alisam is actualized.
[5:36]His parents and 11 brothers, they prostrate to him.
[5:41]Now you see the beautiful symmetry in the story.
[5:47]The story begins with prophet Ysef Alisam seeing that dream of the
[5:50]sun and the moon and the 11 stars or planets prostrating to
[5:53]him.
[5:53]And the story ends with this dream not only being interpreted but
[6:00]becoming actualized as they prostrate to him.
[6:04]The second event which is his brothers plotting against him matches with
[6:09]the second to last event which is the 11th event.
[6:11]His brothers seeking forgiveness for their evil plots against him.
[6:18]The third event which is scheming against him matches with the third
[6:23]to last event which is the 10th event and in the 10th
[6:25]event she confessed of her wrongdoing and so on.
[6:30]You see how remarkable this is?
[6:34]How could Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasall who never wrote any of
[6:37]the chapters of the Holy Quran?
[6:39]He recited these chapters verbally to his people craft the story with
[6:46]such detail with such literary power, such beautiful wisdom and at the
[6:50]same time have this beautiful ring structure to it.
[6:55]Is this not a masterpiece by all standards?
[6:59]Is this not a miracle?
[7:01]Now, just as the ring structure can apply to the stories of
[7:06]the Quran, it can even apply to individual verses in the holy
[7:09]Quran.
[7:10]Let's share the example of the famous the verse of the throne
[7:16]or the verse of the chair and that is verse 255 of
[7:19]Bakar chapter 2 verse 255.
[7:22]Allah subhana t in this chapter states in this verse states [Music]
[7:54]Basically in this verse Allah subhanaa tala states Allah is he besides
[8:02]whom there is no God.
[8:02]The everliving, the self-subsisting.
[8:04]Slumber does not overtake him nor does he sleep.
[8:08]Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth belongs
[8:11]to him.
[8:12]Who is he that can intercede with him but by his permission?
[8:17]He knows what is before them and what is behind them and
[8:22]they cannot comprehend anything out of his knowledge except what he pleases.
[8:27]His throne extends over the heavens and the earth and the preservation
[8:31]of them both tires him not.
[8:33]And he is the most high the great.
[8:36]Now this verse can be divided into eight parts.
[8:41]Let's see how the ring structure works here.
[8:44]The first part Allah is ever living and he's self-subsisting.
[8:48]Second part he doesn't sleep.
[8:50]He doesn't rest.
[8:53]Third part he owns everything in the universe.
[8:57]Fourth part, no one can intercede except by his permission.
[8:58]We've reached half of the verse.
[9:01]Now see how the order is reversed.
[9:04]It mirrors this other half.
[9:07]Number five, no one has access to God's knowledge except what he
[9:14]permits to share.
[9:14]See, number four, you only get intercession if God permits.
[9:20]Number five, which is mirroring it.
[9:22]You don't have access to knowledge except if he gives permission.
[9:25]Number six, his throne, meaning his power extends to the entire universe.
[9:30]This is mirrored by the third part which says he owns everything.
[9:34]And then number seven, he does not get tired.
[9:39]This is mirrored by the second part which states God does not
[9:42]sleep.
[9:42]He does not rest.
[9:45]He doesn't get tired.
[9:45]You see how that matches?
[9:48]And then the last part, he's the most high.
[9:49]He is the great that matches the first part.
[9:52]Allah is everliving and self-subsisting.
[9:56]See how beautifully we find the ring structure over here in this
[10:04]beautiful verse of you see how that matches.
[10:09]Is this not amazing?
[10:09]Is this not fascinating?
[10:12]My dear brothers and sisters, study the Quran.
[10:14]Look at the beauty of the Quran.
[10:17]Every aspect of the Quran is amazing.
[10:20]It's powerful.
[10:21]It's beautiful.
[10:23]Even the structure of the words and the sentences and the stories
[10:26]and even the sequence of events.
[10:29]Subhan Allah.
