[0:00]but there are some other pressing issues that I need to address
[0:06]and I thought I would talk about the birth of Al IM
[0:09]Muhammad Al Bak for a few minutes then I need to switch
[0:14]and go to the very pressing topics that we are facing in
[0:18]our community as you might know we have witnessed recently when I
[0:27]say recently as recent as two weeks and yesterday the last case
[0:36]the last case took a place yesterday we had a suicide in
[0:43]our community again another young man two weeks ago he was 21
[0:49]year old today or yesterday he was 18y old they both committed
[0:56]suicide and this is not the only two cases we have in
[1:01]our community we have other cases as well the common factor between
[1:07]at least the two these two cases is depression as it's been
[1:13]reported both were inflicted with depression now depression is one of the
[1:21]leading causes of suicide in the United States by the way by
[1:29]the way without going to your I phone and search that on
[1:32]Google while I'm talking I ask you a question how many people
[1:39]commit suicide in the United States every year average any number the
[1:45]person answering has to be 18e old and up please so I
[1:51]need to see some brothers or sisters answering this question mashallah you're
[1:56]all educated you live in the United States any clue any clue
[2:00]yes Ali 5,000 5,000 any number huh half a million half a
[2:09]million are you 18 if you're 18 answer if you're not 18
[2:17]listen please yeah every year the latest statistics say there are listen
[2:22]to this 990,000 people get killed by weapon they got shot at
[2:29]by weapon every year in the United States 60,000 of which commit
[2:35]suicide 60,000 commit suicide 30,000 get killed by other people you can
[2:44]Google that in your smartphone 60,000 people commit suicide annually in the
[2:54]United States in 10 years how many that would be that would
[2:58]be over half a million in 10 years that will be over
[3:04]half a million 600,000 people commit suicide in the United States of
[3:11]course our community is not immune now I want to talk a
[3:18]little bit about depression I'm not a therapist I'm not a doctor
[3:23]I'm not a physician but I want to offer my input as
[3:28]a religious leader involved in in many cases in the community especially
[3:37]cases pertaining to our youth and particularly with depression we have many
[3:43]people by the way there is another statistic says 20 listen to
[3:54]this 20% of Americans 20% of Americans 1/5th of Americans have depression
[4:00]now we have how many Americans no one knows again if you're
[4:10]18 answer if you're not listen please huh how many 360 million
[4:20]310 million the US population is 310 million So 20% of that
[4:26]would be what would be overse 60 million would be over 60
[4:34]million people in America have depression now depression have you know different
[4:45]there are different kind of depression mild medium and sometime could be
[4:52]severe and the severe one is dangerous if it's not treated and
[4:56]the question how it is treated how do we treat depression again
[5:02]I want to hear an uh some some participation some involvement and
[5:09]some uh interaction here medication and therapy how many of you would
[5:19]suggest that uh we do um you know we take as they
[5:33]say in the local community we use UHA and you know uh
[5:41]those uh hijab and and those uh let call them for the
[5:52]sake for the lack of better expression the spiritual way the non
[6:01]medical intervention how many of you thinks that would also work to
[6:08]go to a [Music] man uh uh who is not a doctor
[6:18]but he prescribe some written you know Dua and he would give
[6:22]to people and they can be healed how many of you would
[6:29]believe in that okay okay good okay unfortunately in our community we
[6:36]still see that there are so many myths sweeping our community including
[6:43]the way how we treat a a mentally troubled person now I
[6:52]want to say something before I go on when we talk about
[6:57]depression and mental illness es the first impression comes to mind that
[7:03]those who have depression are what are crazy isn't that what many
[7:13]people think that's a myth no that's what people think but is
[7:16]that true no that's not true at all those who have depression
[7:25]are not crazy people they are not cuckoo they are not weird
[7:31]they are just sick like any other person just like someone having
[7:37]elcer in his stomach what do you call a person having Elson
[7:41]in his stomach do you call him crazy call him sick it
[7:47]is the same concept depression is caused by imbalance of chemicals in
[7:53]your brain obviously that's not my domain so I'm not going to
[7:57]go too much in it but briefly it's an balance in the
[8:03]chemicals of your brain that causes depression obviously there are triggers for
[8:07]your depression but that does not mean those who have depression they
[8:12]are uh they are insane or a as they say or maon
[8:23]or they are crazy they are not they're just like any other
[8:30]patient we have to pay close attention to that fact therefore based
[8:36]on that there should be no Stigma to it unfortunately our community
[8:44]has Associated depression with certain stigma that if someone has a stigma
[8:50]that means he's a crazy and therefore many of those who need
[8:55]help and have depression they don't talk about it for the fear
[9:01]of what stigma for the fear that they may be viewed by
[9:05]other people as crazy people while indeed they are not crazy people
[9:09]they are normal people and they are in need of help just
[9:14]like any other patient needs help number two so number one those
[9:25]who have depression are not crazy people the second fact as we
[9:32]talk about this subject and this is very crucial to know that
[9:38]the number of people who have depression out numbers of people who
[9:44]seek treatment for depression what I mean by that there are many
[9:50]people in our community who suffer from depression but they do not
[9:56]seek for one way for one reason or another they do not
[10:00]seek treatment for depression and therefore they even deny they have depression
[10:06]or they don't know they have depression either they deny themselves the
[10:15]treatment or they don't even know they have depression so that's another
[10:22]problem we're having in the community people who do have depression but
[10:27]they don't treat it either because they are in to treat it
[10:30]or they do not have access to treat it or they do
[10:35]not know how to treat it so keep that in mind now
[10:41]how do we treat it the first step toward treating depression is
[10:49]not by going to the shikh or the say and ask him
[10:55]to recite Dua Dua is good but just like when you have
[10:57]a problem with your Elser I always go go to that exam
[11:00]example you don't go to the Sheikh or the say you go
[11:01]to the your doctor your family doctor and you tell him about
[11:08]your Elser you don't you tell him about your problems with your
[11:10]stomach you're not going to come to me and discuss your medical
[11:13]issues with me because I'm not a doctor same thing when it
[11:18]h when it comes to depression you do not need to go
[11:21]to a sheh or a say trust me on that yes you
[11:26]can seek help from someone higher than the sh or the say
[11:32]and who is that who's that huh therapist who is the biggest
[11:43]therapist Allah subhana wa ta'ala Allah is the best healer he is
[11:50]number one Healer whether when you have depression or God forbid when
[11:55]you have cancer or when you have a problem medical problem and
[11:59]any problem you have Allah is the Healer keep in mind Allah
[12:06]is the Healer and he it is he who gives healing and
[12:11]it is he who put the healing in the medicine but Allah
[12:14]subhah waaa ask us to go to the doctor that's how life
[12:18]Works Allah could have fed you without the need for you to
[12:25]go to work right but he says no in order for me
[12:29]to feed you you have to go and work work hard earn
[12:31]money then I can feed you Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gives provides
[12:41]but through instrument through certain Vehicles Allah wants everything to happen for
[12:53]you but through a vehicle by you working for it so in
[12:59]order for me to travel to Hajj Allah says go and buy
[13:05]a ticket well you can take me to meca right away without
[13:08]taking a ticket without boarding an airplane and without spending money on
[13:13]my ticket Allah says no I'm not going to do that you
[13:16]have to board the plane and you have to go to Mecca
[13:18]because there are there are people who live off the plane same
[13:23]thing when it comes to your health Allah can offer you his
[13:29]healing right away but Allah says there are thousands of doctors who
[13:35]make their living through this system so go to them and I
[13:38]will give you my healing so ultimate healing comes from Allah but
[13:42]the doctor and the medicine are instrument vehicles and we have to
[13:50]take that vehicle so for those who suffer from depression the first
[13:56]step is they should stop feeling the stigma number two they they
[14:03]should start looking for medical treatment whatever that takes therapy medicine whatever
[14:10]it takes some people say there is no benefit from going to
[14:16]the doctor and you ask him why I went and he gave
[14:21]me medicine and I used it for a month and it didn't
[14:23]work who told you it works like that there are some medical
[14:28]problems that could be treated in one week like your infection your
[14:33]doctor gives you antibiotics and you could be healed in one week
[14:40]but sometime the healing takes one year it may take 3 years
[14:43]it may take 5 years it may take your entire life how
[14:48]many of you know people who have sugar diabetes how many do
[14:52]you know that diabet in order to cure diabetes first of all
[14:55]there is no cure there is treatment for it and you know
[14:59]the difference between treatment and a cure in order to treat it
[15:02]it is a lifelong treatment you have to take it every day
[15:09]7 days a week 30 days a month 365 days a year
[15:14]throughout your life that's how you treat it it's not a pill
[15:19]you take and Kal you're okay next day you have to take
[15:25]insulin every single day especially with the severe diabetes so it's the
[15:31]same concept here that the treatment of some kind of those mental
[15:34]issues Take Years take life lifetime that doesn't mean you will not
[15:40]be treated but you have to be patient and you have to
[15:46]accept the fact that your treatment may take up to 5 years
[15:51]10 years or lifetime number three my dear brothers and sisters if
[16:00]you know someone and I'm going to ask you this a question
[16:06]without naming anybody's name how many of you know in your family
[16:10]members and your friends in your family members and your friends someone
[16:15]who has depression don't be shy I'm not going to ask you
[16:20]their social security number or name okay so I see some hands
[16:25]and I'm sure some of you are still under the influence of
[16:28]stigma and you don't want to raise your hand that's fine but
[16:33]the best thing you do to your friends who have depression is
[16:39]to educate them about it not to sleep on it to educate
[16:45]them to tell them that the best thing you do is to
[16:47]go to the doctor help them go to the doctor find them
[16:54]a good doctor let them go to a doctor guide them through
[16:57]that's the best help you offer someone who goes through depression because
[17:04]trust me that person can go through a very delicate line that
[17:12]his life could be in danger that if you do not offer
[17:15]him that help you may risk he may risk losing his life
[17:21]so by you rushing to him educating him on where to go
[17:28]who talk who to talk to you may save their lives by
[17:31]that so do not hesitate it could be your mother it could
[17:38]be your sister it could be your cousin it could be your
[17:41]classmate it could be your best friend any person you know that
[17:49]they have depression they don't seek treatment you need to approach them
[17:55]educate them tell them don't go to dicks I know some people
[17:58]people go to Dix Avenue they find a Yen shikh with all
[18:04]due respect to all yemenis they pay him $150 and some cases
[18:07]$500 and he would write them a fake fake text fake text
[18:14]what I mean by fake test nonsense text he would write nonsense
[18:19]word claiming that this is a great Dua and he would give
[18:26]it to this person this desperate person and that person takes it
[18:30]and he thinks that he has been saved one time one lady
[18:36]came to me she had depression and I was talking her about
[18:39]going to the doctor and she says no no I went to
[18:43]someone in Dix and he gave me this Dua I said can
[18:47]I see the Dua and when I read the Dua uh supposedly
[18:50]the Dua I was laughing I was laughing nonsense word words that
[19:00]he does not even know what they are he just wrote them
[19:07]and he might be the person the writer in a nonsensical context
[19:12]on writing nonsensical things and he did and he won the award
[19:16]for it and he gives to those poor people believing that this
[19:22]is a Dua now don't get me wrong I'm not denying there
[19:26]could be Dua but first of any person charges you for the
[19:32]Dua that's the first red flag that's the first red flag when
[19:39]someone charges you for the Dua that's the first red flag that
[19:43]this could be something wrong number two not any person writes you
[19:47]something it could be a Dua it could be something nonsense he's
[19:52]writing you the Dua has to be narrated from the prophet or
[19:55]his family not anything someone writes that's why if you want to
[20:00]seek Dua you have to go through a legitimate Channel a scholar
[20:06]which you trust someone that you know of course he is not
[20:11]supposed to charge you for this but ultimately the the way we
[20:20]tackle this issue is not by going to dicks Avenue rather by
[20:26]going to the legitimate doctor legitimate doctor who could be referred by
[20:32]your own family doctor or someone you know in the community that
[20:35]you trust would refer you to him or to her and you
[20:40]go to them and uh sometimes sometimes you go to a doctor
[20:47]but the medicine he gives you may not work so you have
[20:52]to be patient you may change your medicine in other word seeking
[20:57]treatment for mental illness requires patience requires patience and consistency but the
[21:06]bottom line my dear brothers and sisters you will be saving someone's
[21:12]life there are two leading causes of death in America for the
[21:19]Youth two leading causes one is depression number two is drugs and
[21:27]this is which we are suffering in our community from we have
[21:34]people on drugs and people on people are and sometime they go
[21:39]hand in hand meaning many people who have depression will resort to
[21:45]drug and they and vice versa many people on a drug they
[21:50]will end up having depression so it could be a compounded complex
[21:59]situation that's why both need help those who are in drug they
[22:03]need help they need your immediate help and also those who have
[22:13]depression now what do we do now we talked about the solution
[22:15]but what do we do as a community unfortunately and I hate
[22:22]to say this honestly I hate to say this because I don't
[22:24]want to sound I'm a critical of others we have no less
[22:31]than 10 Islamic institutions in debor no less than 10 Islamic institutions
[22:36]God bless them all they have been doing great job but none
[22:40]of them none whatsoever is focusing on youth related problems drug abuse
[22:49]depression addiction none none we need a new center a new Islamic
[22:56]Center that Focus focuses on those issues holding symposiums on bringing public
[23:09]awareness about drug addiction and depression we need Islamic centers that focus
[23:15]a large amount of their time and resources tackling these issues establishing
[23:23]a rehab center a an awareness Center social workers employing social workers
[23:31]who would tackle those issues it is a it is time that
[23:37]we need that it is time about time that someone should step
[23:40]up to the challenge and we need to do that otherwise every
[23:48]few days every few weeks the news will bring to us that
[23:57]someone died out of depression a addiction or any of those youth
[24:05]related troubles we need to do something about this we cannot go
[24:09]complacent we cannot just focus on issues that are not so related
[24:21]to our community we need to stop looking at these issues as
[24:25]a stigma and taboo we have to fight the taboo imposed on
[24:31]our community because of those problems we have to be brave enough
[24:35]to say look there are many people in our community who suffer
[24:39]from depression drug addictions and they need some sort of solution we
[24:45]need to tackle this issue we need to address this problem it
[24:52]is not one it is not to we have so many young
[24:54]men and women in the past and will continue to have have
[24:59]in our community who are dying because of this and because of
[25:06]the taboo and because of the stigma you may not even know
[25:11]that your next door neighbor son has depression and has this problem
[25:17]and you can see him day in day out going out coming
[25:23]and without you notice that because they don't have the courage to
[25:26]talk about it in the Comm community and they don't have the
[25:29]courage to go and address it and by not addressing it it's
[25:36]not going to go away ultimately it will explode and it will
[25:40]lead into a tragedy we need to address those issues I will
[25:45]give few minutes I'm sorry for starting late tonight because because of
[25:49]Salah uh so we started at 900 p.m.
[25:53]because of Salah uh but we'll allow a few minutes please if
[25:59]you have any question don't be shy to ask and uh then
[26:05]we will be concluding with pizza inshallah but you will not get
[26:15]your pizza until your questions are answered who wants to uh go
[26:20]first and please uh let's speak into the mic so I can
[26:22]get this on video and please those who ask should be 18
[26:28]year old and up those who are under 18 they just listen
[26:38]uh as you stated in your lecture you said that uh um
[26:43]that like medical conditions as depression is one you would go to
[26:47]a medical specialist or somebody who specializes in that field um but
[26:51]is there a solution to it religiously spiritually that that somebody could
[26:56]find if they were to go to some somebody like yourself the
[26:58]solution religiously is to go to the doctor that's the solution when
[27:04]you have a problem with your elcer and you have infection in
[27:11]your stomach is there a solution religiously religion tells you go to
[27:17]the doctor same thing Islam says go to the doctor in this
[27:20]case go to the doctor do some prayers no problem do some
[27:24]Dua but the best way to approach it is by going to
[27:30]the doctor when someone God forbid has cancer and the doctor prescribed
[27:40]him for chemotherapy what is he supposed to do to take the
[27:43]Quran and read only well read the Quran no problem inshallah it
[27:47]will help but also the Hadith says go and seek medical treatment
[27:55]go to the medical center go to k us and get your
[28:02]chemotherapy dose that's how we tackle it the same exact way no
[28:08]difference sayum so I I guess I'm asking as and behalf of
[28:14]a parent um when you have kids at home you know a
[28:19]lot you're talking about depression and the depression hits kids at a
[28:22]very young age as well with the social pressure and now you
[28:27]have social media um I know there 's been a lot of
[28:29]talk in the media about screen time and other factors in the
[28:33]home that could contribute to depression can you talk about some of
[28:37]the things we can do at home as parents to to keep
[28:40]our kids from falling into that trap well maybe I'm not the
[28:47]expert on that Haj Ali we need to ask social workers therapists
[28:51]and doctors but one thing I want to point out there is
[28:55]another myth in our community is that you if you are if
[29:03]you have depression you are what you're not no no no no
[29:09]we mentioned that if you have depression that means your faith in
[29:13]God is weak is that true no has nothing to do I
[29:20]know some very faithful committed extremely religious people who have depression just
[29:27]like exactly like having Al I always go to this or having
[29:30]problem with your liver or your kidney someone who very religious can
[29:36]have kidney problem it has nothing to do with your faith remember
[29:43]feeling depressed is different than having depression when you have depression it's
[29:51]a symptom it's a disorder that you need to treat it has
[29:57]nothing to do with your patience with your faith how religious you
[30:01]are it has nothing to do with that yes having religion and
[30:08]strong faith as I said I mentioned today in Sal may stop
[30:14]you from committing suicide because no matter how bad your depression your
[30:19]faith gives you an extra dose of patience that stops you from
[30:30]committing suicide those who don't have strong faith after having severe depression
[30:34]they may think of suicide and God forbid they may commit suicide
[30:40]yes committing suicide is a sign of weak Faith but having depression
[30:45]itself is not a sign of having weak faith it doesn't mean
[30:52]that you're not religious go ahead who is next RZA brother I
[30:56]I just wanted to answer that young man's question um about that
[31:00]Hadith from the prophet that said first do your part and then
[31:05]tie the camel so leave I'm sorry leave it tie your camel
[31:07]first and then pray to Allah like meaning doing do your part
[31:12]first and then leave it in Allah's hand that's very true a
[31:15]man came to the prophet and uh he left his camel unti
[31:21]and the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasam asked him where you're going he
[31:26]said said to the prophet I'm joining you and the prophet asked
[31:30]him what what are you going to do about your camel you
[31:32]just left it in the desert he says yeah I rely on
[31:36]Allah I leave it in the hand of Allah the prophet says
[31:41]go tie your camel and then meaning do your job first then
[31:49]rely on Allah Allah wants you to do your job as well
[31:51]Allah is not interested in lazy people Allah says to you do
[31:58]your job fight for your cause work hard and I will help
[32:05]you but you by you not working hard I'm not going to
[32:09]help you Allah will not help the condition will not change the
[32:22]condition of people until people themselves start changing their own condition so
[32:28]Allah subhah wa ta'ala will help you would give you healing providing
[32:33]you take the right route and you do the right thing and
[32:38]you take the right step brother rum I just wanted to say
[32:45]that you know if we suggest to go see a doctor right
[32:46]in today's world the doctor is going to give give you a
[32:50]prescription for a PR and we know that almost every pear and
[32:53]prescription has got a side effect and I think we've we've um
[32:57]seen that with the the sand Hook Elementary right I think the
[33:00]on the kid had depression he was on a medication and he
[33:05]kind of had an out of going um to killing other people
[33:09]so is that really like the right un solution for treating a
[33:14]chemical imbalance knowing that the the medication today has a side effect
[33:20]can cause not only harm to that person but to other people
[33:25]very good question uh today mental therapy or mental treatment offers two
[33:32]ways two methods of medical treatment for mental illnesses one is giving
[33:39]medicine pills and the other one is offering therapy and in many
[33:44]cases they tell you medicine only will not help pills only will
[33:52]not help pills need to be combined with uh therapy as well
[33:56]I believe if someone takes the right combination of uh treatment that
[34:03]includes medical therapy and medical medicine medicine most likely he will find
[34:13]a good result obviously obviously um again I'm not an expert but
[34:18]obviously there are some illnesses that are hard to treat just like
[34:24]cancer there are many illnesses that's hard to to treat the percentage
[34:32]of of Success is Not 100% could be 70% could be 80%
[34:36]and depression is one of them but ultimately the only the only
[34:44]legitimate way to treat depression is not by going through weird ways
[34:50]and unconventional ways rather to take the medical treatment maybe combined with
[34:57]medical therapy I have a question say so as the brother said
[35:04]you would want to go to see a doctor and so they
[35:10]can give you prescription but uh back in the ne's days s
[35:15]alai wasallam there was no doctors there was no prescriptions there was
[35:20]no drugs no Pharmacy over there so if somebody would come to
[35:25]the na sallallahu alaihi wasallam and say I am not right I'm
[35:28]depressed they don't even know what depressed means right I'm not feeling
[35:32]well what's going on what is he going to do well I
[35:36]disagree with you brother J at the time of the Prophet there
[35:43]was depression and there was medicine it is it was not as
[35:47]advanced as today medicine was not as advanced as today but obviously
[35:51]there were medical methods with which uh doctors would offer herbs and
[35:58]other you know primitive ways of treatment so there was medicine and
[36:04]there was treatment but it might not be as effective as today
[36:11]remember the medic the medical technology had Advanced sharply I was listening
[36:18]to CNN few months ago it says by year scientists predict by
[36:27]year 20 25 they can over medicine can overcome and treat all
[36:35]cancer cases now the percentage of success is up to 60 or
[36:39]70% in year 2025 there will be a treatment or cure actually
[36:47]for all type of cancer inshallah so the medicine at that time
[36:55]may not have been Advanced as it is now but definitely there
[36:58]was and the prophet sallallahu alaih not only during the time of
[37:04]the Prophet medicine existed from day one from the time of ibraim
[37:10]and before there were always doctors treating people and that was one
[37:18]of the uh Depression was one of them yesaya and then so
[37:23]I just wanted to make a I guess two comments one in
[37:27]regard ards to Media I guess sometimes when we talk about depression
[37:30]we we like you're talking about treatment of depression but sometimes we
[37:35]have to talk about prevention and I know some depression and some
[37:40]mental illness is genetic or it's an imbalance but there is environment
[37:44]triggered mental illness as well and going back to Media we have
[37:49]to remember that with social media being so prevalent now that it
[37:53]has triggered a lot of new mental illness diagnosis because of social
[37:58]media why because we see an unrealistic lifestyle that people are supposedly
[38:02]living they're portraying a lifestyle on media but that's not really the
[38:06]life so me as somebody who might be on these uh websites
[38:11]I look and see wow look at look at sister mam she's
[38:13]uh she's living such a beautiful life why am I not living
[38:17]that life and it becomes like uh I become depressed about it
[38:20]and like jealous about it and it triggers you know issues and
[38:24]not only that they've even talked about social media causing uh narcissism
[38:30]because of certain postings of pictures and stuff like that so that's
[38:34]one thing that I think we need to be careful with is
[38:36]social media and how we use social media and how it affects
[38:41]us mentally and we not not even know it I mean kids
[38:44]are on their on the phones and Instagram and Facebook at the
[38:47]age of five you see now so that was one point the
[38:53]other point um I wanted to address which I kind of lost
[38:55]my train of thought now but um um yeah I forgot I
[39:00]forgot what was my other comment but yeah we have to be
[39:04]aware of other things that we can prevent from an early age
[39:07]and one of them is social media and try to limit the
[39:12]misuse of it I agree with you Maya there are ways to
[39:14]prevent and I'm sure there is prevention uh program I'm not an
[39:22]expert in that we need to refer to an expert but maybe
[39:25]someone else another day will talk about you know prevention ha where
[39:28]is hajah Khadijah is she here I talked to hajah Khadijah and
[39:34]we are supposed to have a symposium soon inshallah on those three
[39:39]issues suicide suicide drug abuse and uh what is the third one
[39:48]depression so that is much needed ha Khadijah that we need to
[39:53]work on it as soon as possible we do have the resources
[39:56]we do have the volunteers and uh I think it is about
[40:01]time that we need to focus on that maybe the theme of
[40:05]next month I don't know if it's been set or not yet
[40:10]if it has not been decided yet uh we can have the
[40:13]theme of next month maybe May to be on mental health issues
[40:20]if you guys agree with me I would ask you to consider
[40:26]that yes Haj so I just want to make another so when
[40:28]we were talking earlier about you know um the back in the
[40:32]day with all the the prophets Prophet ibraim Prophet Musa right when
[40:35]they had a problem who did they seek they seek Allah right
[40:40]I mean when Moses was at the Red Sea he didn't have
[40:42]a tool to bring uh a bulldozer he asked God for help
[40:47]to help him part the Red Sea when ibraim when his wife
[40:50]was B she couldn't have a child she didn't go take a
[40:54]vitro drug or something right she she called on God so that's
[40:57]why I'm a little bit confused when you're saying like you know
[41:00]we should go see a doctor right I mean this is all
[41:02]I mean if all are prophets if they can ask him right
[41:09]why can't we well let's not confuse the two issues let's not
[41:13]confuse the two issues I didn't say we should not seek help
[41:20]from Allah what I said is when I'm sick I need to
[41:26]seek medical treatment how you work right you work what do you
[41:30]do for living I'm an engineer you're an engineer why don't you
[41:37]stop working and then pray to Allah subhah wa ta'ala to send
[41:41]your sustenance your salary without working without going to work you can
[41:46]ask Allah subhah wa ta'ala and Allah can do anything why don't
[41:52]you stop working why don't we stop working because yes Allah is
[41:57]the sustainer but at the same time he says go and work
[41:59]when I'm sick he says I will help you but go and
[42:06]seek medical treatment and for M that was beyond any medical treatment
[42:12]you know uh having uh you know exploding the ocean and making
[42:21]a a a road right inside the ocean that is beyond any
[42:29]body's capacity that needed a miracle to save the children of Israel
[42:33]nobody could have done it no doctor no one other than Allah
[42:37]subhana wa ta'ala when ibraim was a thrown in the fire it
[42:42]required the miracle to save him no doctor could have saved him
[42:45]so Allah interferes yes when no one else can interfere Allah interferes
[42:50]but Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala at the same time he says when
[42:55]you go to the doctor I'm going to put the healing in
[42:58]his prescription and the medicine I am the Quran says when I
[43:07]get sick Allah heals me not the doctor but through the doctor
[43:15]listen to the term Allah gives the healing through the doctor through
[43:19]the doctor so it is not the doctor who gives you the
[43:22]healing it is Allah through the doctor in order for you to
[43:30]perform Hajj you have to go through United Airline United Airline is
[43:33]not the one who gives you your Hajj United Airline is the
[43:39]one that you do your Hajj through Allah will allow you to
[43:42]go to Hajj but you need United Airline to go to Hajj
[43:47]so these are Vehicles the doctor is a vehicle prescription is a
[43:53]vehicle Allah gives the healing but but through the doctor so yes
[43:57]even when the prophet gets get got sick he went to the
[44:03]doctor IM we are told that when he was passing away they
[44:06]brought a doctor for him to diagnose his situation so there's nothing
[44:12]wrong with going to the doctor that doesn't mean you don't trust
[44:18]Allah you do trust Allah subhah wa ta'ala and it is Allah
[44:20]who told you to go to the doctor so I go to
[44:23]the doctor but yet I believe it is Allah who will Who
[44:27]will give me the healing just like you go to work but
[44:29]believing Allah is the sustainer it's not Ford company thank you so
[44:35]much my dear brothers and sisters inshallah we'll talk more about this
[44:40]subject during the the Symposium may Allah bless you raak and has
[44:46]an announcement before we disperse Alay thank you everyone everyone who participated
[44:57]in the discussion brothers and sisters I just have one more comment
[45:00]I'd like to add uh in regards to the discussion adding on
[45:03]to the comment made by Haim Maya regarding uh prevention of depression
[45:07]and suicide and these types of things I heard a story I'm
[45:11]not sure the exact source of the story but it was very
[45:13]interesting it was a man who went to the Golden Gate Bridge
[45:17]and he threw himself off of it committed suicide and afterwards they
[45:20]found a suicide note from this man and he wrote in the
[45:24]note he said I'm walking to the Golden Gate Bridge to go
[45:27]jump off and commit suicide and on my way there if just
[45:31]one person says hi to me on the street I won't kill
[45:33]myself so it turns out nobody said TI to this guy or
[45:37]you know gave him even a smile or things like this there's
[45:42]a a nice uh quote by Arabic philosopher true story uh it's
[45:45]it's I said I don't know the source of the story but
[45:49]it's it's a very interesting one that I've heard so uh there's
[45:51]a quote by an Arabic philosopher he says it means the proper
[46:01]plant the successful plant and flower grows with attention but Thorns will
[46:05]grow from neglect so we have to keep in mind that we're
[46:11]not necessarily all uh certified doctors therapists psychiatrists but we uh there's
[46:15]nothing stopping us from establishing a point of Brotherhood and Sisterhood between
[46:20]our friends our family and members of our community in order to
[46:23]make people feel like they have someone to rely on when they're
[46:28]going through depression so you know never feel embarrassed or wrong to
[46:30]go to your friends and ask them if everything is all right
[46:33]ask them if they're doing okay ask them if they need any
[46:36]help with everything with anything and inshallah someone will be able to
[46:39]come to you and help you out if you ever have a
[46:41]problem so that's just something I wanted to point out and inshallah
[46:44]we can work on this as a community to get past this
[46:46]thank you very much everyone thank you for a beautiful program and
[46:52]uh let's enjoy some pizza after Muhammad Muhammad
