[0:57]surah number 104 this surah is very important because it addresses some

[1:06]of the most important social diseases that are prevalent in our communities

[1:12]that are prevalent in societies that cause the destruction and demise of

[1:19]families individual individuals families and societies as a whole and that is

[1:25]the greed and the arrogance because of wealth for love of power

[1:36]and looking down upon other people by making fun of other people

[1:40]this is a very important issue social diseases are destructive to society

[1:46]a lot of people they're afraid of physical diseases having a virus

[1:52]having coveted 19 or having cancer yes this is destructive to the

[1:58]human body but there are social diseases that are destructive to communities

[2:04]to societies that break families apart and they are if not as

[2:10]bad as the as as the physical disease they are worse they

[2:14]are worse than the physical diseases because someone who has a a

[2:18]physical disease they deal with it their patients at least they're not

[2:21]rude to other people at least they're not breaking apart communities and

[2:26]marriages and families but the people who have social diseases they will

[2:31]ruin themselves and they will ruin others this greed and arrogance this

[2:37]is very destructive today we see in the united states we're dealing

[2:42]with racism where does racism come from racism comes from one group

[2:47]of people regarding themselves greater and more worthy of a better life

[2:51]than other people you see that this is a challenge that's being

[2:54]dealt with in the united states right now right now in the

[2:58]middle east in the middle east right now there's a huge conflict

[3:00]going on over jerusalem what does that where does that stem from

[3:04]that stems from the love for power and greed and arrogance where

[3:09]one group of people in this case the israeli government they regard

[3:14]that the palestinians they are second and third class citizens they don't

[3:17]deserve to live they're kick they're kicking them out of their homes

[3:21]that they have been living in for centuries this is where they

[3:25]were from this is where their fathers are from these were their

[3:28]grandfathers great-grandfathers they've been there their whole lives but now because one

[3:32]group of people they believe that they are god's chosen people and

[3:36]this is their land therefore let's come and exile all these people

[3:41]let's come and kick out all these people and send them to

[3:45]neighboring countries here and there let's let them go and live in

[3:49]exile as refugees here and there and if they resist let's bomb

[3:52]them let's kill them let's kill their children where does this come

[3:57]from this comes from arrogance this comes from pride anyone who believes

[4:01]that they are better than another person there's a disease in that

[4:05]person a social disease in that person so one of the most

[4:09]important purposes of religion is to address these issues now of course

[4:14]today some people when they look at the conflict that's going on

[4:16]in the middle east some people will come and they will say

[4:19]religion is adding to that conflict because people they say oh i'm

[4:24]muslim i'm shi'i i'm sunni i'm jewish i'm christian and then they're

[4:27]fighting with other people however the reality of religion the essence of

[4:31]religion does not call for destruction of other people it calls for

[4:37]preserving life and you see that islam does this the essence of

[4:41]christianity does this the essence of judaism the same message of moses

[4:44]that was a message of peace today what we see some people

[4:48]are doing this is go this goes against judaism as well this

[4:50]is zionism and this is why there are some there are many

[4:55]you know jewish individuals they come and they say no no israel

[4:58]does not represent me the same way saudi arabia and other countries

[5:02]do not represent muslims in islam saudi israel does not represent many

[5:07]of the jews so the purpose of the essence of religion i'm

[5:12]talking about the message of rasulallah the message of musa the message

[5:16]of isa the message of ibrahim is a message of love and

[5:21]peace and tolerance to other people but you find those who worship

[5:26]their desires those who worship their wealth those who worship their money

[5:31]and their own needs those people who are selfish they don't care

[5:36]about religion they might use religion to fool other people like the

[5:38]way for example we were seeing with you know some who come

[5:42]in power like trump for example trump is not a religious person

[5:45]he knows that and everyone knows that but he uses religion to

[5:50]come and say i'm a defender of christianity i'm a defender of

[5:55]christmas as if you know someone's trying to take away christmas so

[5:58]here we see those people who worship their own desires and their

[6:04]own greed they're the ones who cause the suffering and destruction in

[6:07]society either at a personal level at family level and at a

[6:10]at a you know political level social level at a greater level

[6:15]societal level so this is why today you find suffering this is

[6:19]why you find famine this is why you find starvation in some

[6:21]places of the world some there are some countries where people don't

[6:25]have food to eat they don't have the basic necessities while in

[6:30]other other places there are people that don't even know what to

[6:32]do with their money that don't even know how how to spend

[6:36]their money because they have so much of it and a lot

[6:41]of it is taken wrongfully so surat surah 104 addresses these social

[6:45]issues and religion addresses these issues my dear brothers and sisters you

[6:48]can't be a religious person and be a person who's selfish arrogant

[6:52]looking down on other people mocking other people making fun of other

[6:56]other people that's not being religious some people they just assume that

[7:00]religion is just because i clay i claim i'm a muslim i

[7:04]claim i'm from this religion no religion is action religion is implementing

[7:09]the whole quran not picking and choosing whatever we like and what

[7:15]we don't like and and disregarding what we don't like so surat

[7:17]and homaza is a short surah and it has many lessons of

[7:22]course there's a great reward in reciting it he says will receive

[7:38]10 times the reward of those individuals those individuals how much were

[7:45]they those individuals that made fun of the prophet and made fun

[7:47]of the the companions of the prophets how much were they the

[7:51]one who the one who recites will receive the reward 10 times

[7:58]more than the number of those this will remove poverty so there

[8:23]are several surahs that we have mentioned that remove poverty this is

[8:27]one of them it removes poverty it will bring the risk and

[8:37]the sustenance to this person and it will remove and protect this

[8:41]person from the death that is unwanted the death that is for

[8:46]example you know a bad a horrible accident that will protect the

[8:52]person now the reason the narrations say that the sababa nuzu the

[8:55]reason why this surah was revealed was that there were some of

[8:58]the pagans especially those who were rich especially those who had so

[9:01]much money and wealth they would sit and they would make fun

[9:04]of rasulullah and the muslims and the companions of rasulullah they would

[9:11]speak bad about the prophets some of those individuals they were al-walid

[9:23]these were individuals that would make fun of the prophet one of

[9:27]them the father of marwan abner and his name is he used

[9:31]to always make fun of the prophet the prophet is walking he

[9:35]walks behind the prophet and he makes faces and he and he

[9:37]changes his mouth and his looks so one day he kept doing

[9:43]that he kept doing that one day rasulullah said be like that

[9:47]then his his face he had he had turned his face his

[9:50]face stuck in that say in that position that that uh that

[9:54]he had for the rest of his life because he was making

[9:59]fun of rasulullah so this surah addresses those who make fun of

[10:06]other people because of their wealth because of we know what they

[10:09]have they come and they make fun of other people so allah

[10:12]subhanahu wa ta'ala says bismillah home woe to every scorner and mocker

[10:22]there are some people they just want to score and they just

[10:25]want to attack other people make fun of other people mock other

[10:28]people especially this goes on a lot in social media it's in

[10:33]social media some people they become brave they become very brave in

[10:36]social media in person you see this person is hiding behind everyone

[10:39]else afraid to talk but in social media oh you see this

[10:43]person they become the warrior they call them the keyboard warriors because

[10:48]now no one's in front of this person no one's confronting they

[10:51]come and they make fun talking bad about this person putting down

[10:55]this person insulting the scholar talking bad about this person allah says

[11:03]will be upon those who make fun of others who mock other

[11:08]people and this is a bad habit that stems from arrogance when

[11:12]you're making fun of another person that means you believe you're better

[11:15]than this person and what's arrogance arrogance is believing that you are

[11:21]better than another person you are better than that person but the

[11:25]fact of the matter is that the one who makes fun of

[11:26]other people the one who scorns other people the one who insults

[11:30]other people this person has a weakness they have their own weakness

[11:37]their personal weakness and in order to deal with that weakness they

[11:41]come and they put down other people because in order to raise

[11:45]themselves because they have they have this insecurity in order to think

[11:50]of themselves as great as respected they come and they put down

[11:53]other people but that's not how you grow that's not how you

[11:56]raise yourself by putting down other people raise yourself through your akhlaq

[12:00]through your manners through having your even if you have a disagreement

[12:03]with someone have a dialogue with this person why you know resort

[12:07]to put downs why resort to insults why resort to mockery says

[12:16]the most humiliated of individuals is the one who tries to humiliate

[12:22]other people we're not better than anyone else knows who is best

[12:30]how can i come and you know judge another person how can

[12:33]i come and insult another person why should i come and look

[12:38]down upon another person but typically typically not always you find that

[12:43]this materialistic mindset when people look at things only through a materialistic

[12:48]perspective they start putting down other people they start thinking of other

[12:53]people as unworthy you know trump he called countries he called them

[12:57]the the countries he used the bad word the countries why because

[13:02]they're poor because they they're he's racist because their color of skin

[13:07]is not the same color of skin as as as his so

[13:09]he comes and he puts them down why aren't they human beings

[13:14]don't they deserve to live don't they have the same needs and

[13:17]wants as everyone else but this is a problem this is a

[13:21]very important problem some people think that if they have this passport

[13:24]or if they have this much money in their bank account then

[13:27]that means that gives them freedom to put others down no one

[13:32]day allah i want you to go and find a soul something

[13:43]that you are better than this individual something that you are better

[13:46]than was commissioned by god to go and find someone that he

[13:53]is better than this person so he goes out he sees people

[13:58]he sees maybe i'm better than them but then he thinks i

[14:00]don't know what this person's life is i don't know maybe you

[14:04]know this person in public is in one way but maybe maybe

[14:08]you know this person has done something good maybe other people are

[14:10]benefiting from this person so he says no i you know this

[14:14]person no not this person not this person then he moved on

[14:16]to the animals he looked at the animals he saw no these

[14:20]animals they probably they haven't done anything wrong they benefit he looked

[14:25]at a dog a dog that had um that had um you

[14:30]know uh he saw a dog so he looked at the dog

[14:36]and then he said maybe i'm better than this person but then

[14:39]he said no you know what i'm just going to go back

[14:41]to allah and tell him i didn't find any soul that i'm

[14:45]better than he goes to allah subhanahu ta'ala he tells him you

[14:47]asked me to find someone that i'm better than but i didn't

[14:50]find anyone i didn't find anyone because i don't know what's in

[14:54]the hearts of people allah tells him o musa you have passed

[14:57]the test if you had come back with one name with even

[15:02]one creature then you would have lost your prophethood i would have

[15:07]taken away this prophethood from you so we have to be very

[15:13]careful from this this is a social disease he says when the

[15:17]prophet went in the islam in the raj he went to the

[15:26]heavens he says some people the skin is being taken off of

[15:31]their of the flesh is taken off of their own body and

[15:34]they're eating it so they're eating the flesh of other people then

[15:42]then they're telling them eat the flesh of the other people they're

[15:46]telling the angels tell them eat the flesh of the other people

[15:48]as you were eating it during this life and then he says

[16:02]those are the people that are the scorners and the markers they're

[16:06]making fun of other people you know allah says when you're backbiting

[16:09]when you do reeba does anyone of you like to eat the

[16:19]flesh of that brother of your brother no no one likes to

[16:22]do that then he says don't backbite so typically typically who are

[16:27]the ones who do this they're the ones who feel more feel

[16:31]powerful feel that they're rich feel that nothing can harm them they

[16:38]start looking down at other people the moment they're not in need

[16:41]of anyone the moment they are the moment they are rich so

[16:47]allah subhanahu ta'ala says be upon the scorners and the mockers who

[16:51]are they and levi the one who collects wealth and continuously counts

[16:59]it typically this disease of looking down at other people it's with

[17:03]the rich now not always sometimes there might be poor people but

[17:07]not and of course not all the rich there are typically typically

[17:12]allah is saying this is the norm the one who is consumed

[17:19]with money counting money protecting money worshiping money their whole life revolves

[17:25]around money their relationships with other people revolve and and and circle

[17:30]around money this person i'll be this person's friends if i benefit

[17:33]from this person if i don't benefit from this person if i

[17:35]don't make money out of this person then i'm not going to

[17:37]waste my time with this person some people are like that some

[17:40]people are like that this is how they regard this life and

[17:46]they begin to worship money worship it you know you find some

[17:49]people they have money but they don't have happiness because money it's

[17:54]supposed to bring you to your goal and your goal is happiness

[17:58]and satisfaction but they their their wealth and and acquiring wealth has

[18:04]become their goal so they're always running after running after running after

[18:07]and they never find happiness they never spend time with their family

[18:09]they never spend time with their children they never spend time with

[18:12]their loved ones they break off bonds a few days ago a

[18:16]brother called me a young man called me and he told me

[18:20]my brother stole my money my brother stole forty thousand dollars from

[18:24]me he said what am i gonna do he's my brother he

[18:29]stole money he stole the money he went and he sold the

[18:31]property and that's it he didn't give him back his money so

[18:35]some people they're willing to do that for the sake of money

[18:39]and what's ironic is that he says my brother he's he comes

[18:41]off as a religious person he prays he fasts he does all

[18:45]these things but he comes and he steals for the sake of

[18:49]money so my dear brothers and sisters allah subhanahu ta'ala says allah

[18:55]when people are so consumed with wealth collect the money in the

[19:01]bank account let's just store it and then they keep going back

[19:05]and counting okay i made this much if i would have done

[19:08]this transaction if i would have bought this and that i would

[19:11]have made this money and sometimes making the money is haram my

[19:17]dear brothers and sisters making money allah subhanahu ta'ala has promised us

[19:21]our risk allah has promised us our sustenance you're not going to

[19:23]die out of hunger you could either live and make money the

[19:28]way or the haram that risk that's supposed to come to you

[19:32]will come to you there's many hadith that talk about this if

[19:34]god for example has has destined that you make a million dollars

[19:39]this year you will make that money in the halal or in

[19:43]the haram you choose which way you want if you do it

[19:45]the way that million dollars will come to you not a single

[19:49]dollar more and if you choose to make it the haram way

[19:51]you will have sinned that money will come to you but you

[19:55]will be held responsible for it and that money will be a

[19:57]bala for you that money will be a calamity for you so

[20:02]we have to have tawa quran allah and not be so much

[20:06]more you know so much infatuated with this dunya and collecting wealth

[20:10]live your life live comfortable yes allah subhanahu ta'ala wants people to

[20:14]have a house travel with your family do what you can try

[20:18]to be comfortable but some people they live so extravagant you know

[20:23]some of these billionaires they're they're not helping out other people they're

[20:29]taking more and they become more greedy the more they have and

[20:31]they reach a point where if you make if you have for

[20:37]example a million dollars or two million or five billion or six

[20:39]billion it doesn't make a difference anymore especially right now there are

[20:42]multi-billionaires where they have for example 100 billion it's not going to

[20:47]make a difference if you have 100 billion or 90 billion at

[20:49]the end of the day you can't even spend that much money

[20:53]in your whole life so allah subhanahu ta'ala throughout the quran gives

[20:58]us examples of those who alleviate those who collect wealth and they

[21:03]count it and how it destroys them one of them was living

[21:09]during the time of prophet musa and he because of his wealth

[21:15]and everyone was oh i want to be like karoon i want

[21:18]to be like karon karoon had so much wealth that the keys

[21:21]to the to the chest the keys to the treasury that he

[21:25]had they had to be carried by people it was so heavy

[21:27]but karon he ended up turning against prophet musa because for the

[21:33]sake of wealth because he did not want to give zakat he

[21:36]did not want to give alms he accused prophet musa and therefore

[21:40]he died he he was buried in quicksand as a result of

[21:46]him accusing prophet he says he says wealth is not united except

[21:59]with five qualities five characteristics those who have wealth you find those

[22:02]who have so much wealth and they're now now there are a

[22:07]lot of menian believers that have wealth and they spend their the

[22:09]many in the believers their goal is not wealth yes they want

[22:12]to make money and they give in the way of allah but

[22:15]this is talking about those people who don't who just want to

[22:18]collect money and they're only focused upon themselves so he says wealth

[22:26]is not united except with these five characteristics you find typically those

[22:32]who have more money they're more stingy those who have less money

[22:37]they come and they give because they have hope that keeps long

[22:43]hope i'm going to live forever i'm going to do this i'm

[22:48]going to be president i'm going to remain in power.

[22:51]and so much attachment that has you know they're so haris over

[22:56]this dunya and everything that they see they just want everything right

[23:00]away and typically typically they break their bond with their family with

[23:07]their loved ones and choosing compromising the afterlife for this life they

[23:13]choose this life over the afterlife this is a very beautiful hadith

[23:16]from imam ali and another hadith he says intoxication has four types

[23:27]there are four types of intoxication sukur so he tells him that

[23:32]he says what are they first is sharab the intoxication of drinking

[23:37]when you drink alcohol you get intoxicated and that's haram and then

[23:43]he says and the intoxication of wealth some people because of so

[23:49]much wealth they become intoxicated what's the chronome and the intoxication of

[23:54]sleep some people they love sleep you give this person 18 hours

[23:56]a day they're sleeping they're sleeping the whole time the day wake

[24:02]up sleep go to work nope they want to sleep they miss

[24:05]their salah they're sleeping and the intoxication of mulk the intoxication of

[24:14]authority and power and having power this is something that makes people

[24:20]lose their minds so these are things that make people lose their

[24:25]minds drinking wealth sleep and power imam he says he says if

[24:40]the hasab accountability on the day of judgment is true then why

[24:45]are you collecting because you're going to be held accountable and if

[24:48]when kind of if everything is from allah then why are you

[24:54]being poor why are you being stingy with other people if everything

[24:56]is from god give and allah will give you so allah says

[25:00]will be upon the scorners and those who mock people who are

[25:06]they the one who collects money and is counting it this person

[25:14]thinks that their wealth is going to give them immunity their wealth

[25:19]is going to make them live forever and they're not going to

[25:23]die no everyone dies karoon who was so rich he died the

[25:30]billionaires they died steve jobs died p everyone's going to die everyone

[25:35]elon musk um all of these individuals all of these individuals they

[25:42]collect the kings right now you see every few years every few

[25:45]months we hear one of these kings when they die you see

[25:49]that this person had 70 billion dollars 80 billion dollars 50 million

[25:53]all of these numbers that's it the moment you die these numbers

[25:56]don't matter anymore if you had one dollar in your bank account

[26:00]you had zero dollars in your bank account or you had 100

[26:03]million in your bank account it's not going to make a difference

[26:05]the moment you die that's it you die so here when people

[26:13]die they don't they don't take their money with them yes says

[26:28]he will surely be thrown in the crusher and what can you

[26:32]make and what can make you know what is the crusher it

[26:37]is the fire of allah eternally fueled so this is the person

[26:49]who used to make fun of others this is the person who

[26:52]is infatuated with their wealth and thinking that their wealth is going

[26:54]to give them immunity and eternity living forever no they will be

[26:58]thrown in the hell fire a fire that is fueled by allah

[27:04]what kind of fire is this the fire which mounts directed at

[27:13]the hearts meaning that this fire is right above them that's it

[27:17]they can't there's no escape from it and allah wa ta'ala knows

[27:20]exactly what's going on in this person's hearts the hell fire will

[27:29]be closed down upon them in extended columns meaning it's a prison

[27:34]a prison that people will be living in so my dear brothers

[27:39]and sisters this surah is telling us don't look down upon other

[27:47]people don't think that what you have in this life is going

[27:50]to give you you know immunity and protect you from the afterlife

[27:55]maybe in this life you live 80 90 years and that's it

[28:00]you leave you leave and you separate from everything they said that

[28:05]it is said that alexander the great alexander the great he was

[28:13]wise and also perhaps he is is mentioned in the quran alexander

[28:18]the great he says when i die he wrote he says when

[28:21]i die he was he was a man who conquered you know

[28:25]half the world he says when i die i want the doctors

[28:37]out of the casket so that everyone sees my hands and i

[28:40]want them to throw some money in my grave some gold in

[28:54]that i die that's the time that i die and i want

[28:58]them to see my hands sticking out of the coffin so that

[29:01]everyone sees that when i leave this life i leave empty-handed they

[29:06]could see my hands and this is why when when a child

[29:11]is born they're they're they're they're born with their fists closed but

[29:15]when people die they die with their hands open because that's it

[29:19]when you're born imam he has a po he has a poem

[29:22]about this he says that the fist closed of the of the

[29:25]newborn this is an indicator of the of the you know the

[29:31]pursue and um the goal that of collecting wealth that the the

[29:35]human being has but the fact that they leave empty-handed maps is

[29:40]the fact that everyone leaves empty-handed so he says put my hand

[29:45]out like this so that everyone sees that i left empty-handed and

[29:48]put some of this this gold and silver in my grave so

[29:51]that people will see that that does not help me that does

[29:56]not bring me back to life if you use that wealth it

[29:58]brings you closer to allah then that will benefit you but if

[30:04]it doesn't then it will be it will be not from social

[30:21]diseases and make us not be from those who are attached to

[30:25]this dunya and not be from those who mock and make fun

[30:29]of other people and look down on them alhamdulillah muhammadin foreign foreign
