[3:58]muham muhamad respected brothers and sisters alayum we mentioned the last few

[4:12]nights that the religion of Islam is always accused of being a

[4:19]violent religion a religion that promotes terrorism and likewise our Prophet is

[4:23]accused of the same thing he's accused of being a violent man

[4:28]with his enemies a man that spread his teaching with the sword

[4:31]and we showed throughout the last two nights that this is a

[4:39]false accusation we prove that by showing numerous historical accounts of howas

[4:43]Allah treated his own enemies he treated them with mercy and when

[4:49]he had a chance to destroy his enemies chose to forgive them

[4:52]he chose to let them free and we prove thato Allah was

[4:57]not a man that spread his religion and his teachings by the

[5:00]SW SW in fact he was a peaceful man he tried his

[5:05]best to promote peace to stop violence to reduce the casualties and

[5:10]to lessen the Bloodshed and we spoke about all of that last

[5:13]night and the night before and tonight we reach the final point

[5:19]of our discussion and that is the Holy Quran our book the

[5:23]Quran is likewise Accused by many non-muslims of being a violent book

[5:27]they will tell you that your Quran an is a book that

[5:34]promotes violence your Quran orders you Muslims to be hostile towards non-muslim

[5:38]there are verses in the Quran that tell you Muslims order you

[5:42]to kill the non-muslims wherever you find them and I remember once

[5:47]I was giving a lecture in one place and a girl came

[5:49]a middle school or high school girl came to me and she

[5:55]said yesterday my teacher who's very anti-islam she brought me verses from

[5:59]the Quran and she told told me look your Quran is what

[6:03]is telling you Muslims to be violent and they will tell us

[6:06]that all this violence that we see today by ISIS and all

[6:12]those other individuals this is because the Quran promotes it the Quran

[6:16]is telling them to be violent and kill the non-muslims wherever you

[6:20]find them and usually they will mention a few verses in the

[6:25]Holy Quran to prove this and I will mention some of the

[6:27]verses that they use in order for us to be aware of

[6:31]this and so we are able to refute these ACC accusations like

[6:35]I said last night and the night before living in this time

[6:41]and age especially for us the Muslims living in the west we

[6:44]have to know how to refute we have to know how to

[6:49]answer when you see someone a non-muslim in your school in your

[6:52]work a coworker a friend comes to you and says look the

[6:54]Quran says kill the mus non-muslims wherever you see them do I

[6:59]know how to reply or no every single one of us should

[7:01]be able how to reply so that's why I'll mention the verses

[7:06]they use and then we will refute those arguments so one verse

[7:11]they use is a verse that Allah subhana wa tala mentions in

[7:18]Allah subhana says Allah says inah and when the four sacred months

[7:31]finish the four sacred months according to most of the are the

[7:39]month of and Allah says when these four sacred months finish kill

[7:43]the those idolators the polytheists the non-muslims wherever you find them so

[7:50]this is one verse they say you the Quran your Quran promotes

[7:54]violence it says kill the non-muslims wherever you see them this is

[7:58]one verse another verse they use to to prove this is another

[8:02]verse Allah mentions in the Holy Quran it's very clear the Quran

[8:14]says oh Prophet do Jad against the non-muslims the kuf and the

[8:19]Hypocrites theaf so this is a clear verse your book says do

[8:24]Jihad against the non-muslims number three Allah says in the Holy Quran

[8:30]until it says Allah tells the prophet fight th those that do

[8:41]not believe in Allah or in the day of judgment and then

[8:45]Allah says fight the people of the book the people of the

[8:47]book are the Christians and the Jews until what until you force

[8:51]them to give the jizya the tax while they are what submitting

[8:54]to you while they are made humble so the Quran is saying

[8:59]fight the people of the book fight do do Jihad against the

[9:01]kuf and kill the mus wherever you find them so they will

[9:06]use these verses to prove that our religion is a violent religion

[9:09]based on the Quran your Quran is ordering Isis to kill Muslims

[9:12]how do we reply to this do we have enough knowledge to

[9:18]reply to this and tonight inshallah we will go over this how

[9:21]can we give a reply to this now what we have to

[9:25]keep in mind before I come to each one of these verses

[9:28]and discuss them I have to mention a general rule that we

[9:36]have to always keep in mind before we understand any text not

[9:39]just the Quran and this we have to make clear to any

[9:44]non-muslim that when they attack Islam and they say Quran is violent

[9:46]we have to make this clear to them and this is the

[9:52]context anytime we want to correctly understand any text whether it's the

[9:57]Quran the Bible any language you know book or any book that

[9:59]you find in order for us to correctly understand that book we

[10:06]have to always look at the context of the passage of the

[10:09]text if you were to neglect the context and you were just

[10:14]to look at the text without looking at the context you would

[10:16]distort the meaning the meaning would be completely distorted let me give

[10:20]you an example I read an article once that there was a

[10:22]politician in one of the countries and this politician he had an

[10:29]interview one day with one of the news channels so they asked

[10:32]him about his personal life they asked him about his wife how's

[10:36]his relationship with his wife he said it's good and then he

[10:38]began to speak about Chess he really loved chess he said I

[10:41]always play chess with my wife and then he said these words

[10:45]he says I he was he said I play chess with my

[10:51]wife all the time and then he said I always beat my

[10:53]wife I always beat my wife now in what context did he

[10:58]say this he said this in the context of playing chess now

[11:02]I read in the article that there was a newspaper that was

[11:06]against this politician what did they do the next day their headlines

[11:09]is what this politician says in this interview I beat my wife

[11:12]every day and thus you would conclude that he's an abusive husband

[11:17]yes he said I beat my wife every day now obviously what

[11:19]did they do here did they lie no did they play with

[11:23]his words no they quoted exactly what he said so what's the

[11:26]problem here the problem is they took his words out of context

[11:32]correct this is what we mean by context you have to see

[11:34]you have to always see when this person when this text said

[11:39]something in what context was it saying or else if you leave

[11:42]the context out you will distort the meaning just like the story

[11:44]I mentioned now with the Quran the same thing applies if we

[11:49]want to understand the verses of the Quran in the right way

[11:51]we have to look at the context what do we mean by

[11:54]context number one we have to let other verses interpret this verse

[11:59]meaning you have to look at the surrounding verses the verses before

[12:03]the verses after that's number one number two you have to look

[12:06]at why this verse was revealed when it was revealed to whom

[12:11]it was revealed that's number two number three you have to look

[12:14]at the verse was it a general verse that applies to for

[12:19]example all non-muslims or were there conditions does it apply to specific

[12:23]groups of non-muslims is it unconditional or conditional that's number three number

[12:26]four we have to go back to ourth did say anything about

[12:31]this verse did give us a of this verse we have to

[12:36]always see the analysis of the prophet and of because they have

[12:39]the authority to what to interpret the verses of the Quran this

[12:42]all constitutes the con context of the Quran and that's why there

[12:50]there's a famous uh statement about context they say a text without

[12:57]a context it is a pretext for a proof text what does

[13:00]that mean this that means that if you take the context out

[13:06]then you could interpret the you know the passage in any way

[13:09]you like you can twist the meaning you can distort the meaning

[13:14]if you were to leave the context out so with the Quran

[13:17]we have to look at the context so when this non-muslim comes

[13:21]to you and they tell you the Quran says kill the mus

[13:23]wherever you find them you tell them wait please did you look

[13:28]at the context did you go back to the did did you

[13:29]see why it was revealed did you see the historical and the

[13:34]literal context they always what they're always referring to the English translation

[13:37]of the Quran we have to make a clear distinction the English

[13:41]uh translation of the Quran is not the Quran it's the translation

[13:43]of the Quran who said the translation is accurate so these are

[13:48]all things that you have to make clear to them or else

[13:51]if they just want to cherry-pick verses from the Quran and they

[13:54]want to use verses against us to prove that the Quran is

[13:59]violence we could do the same thing with the Bible you see

[14:01]if we want to leave context out and then say the Quran

[14:05]is violent we could do the same exact thing with the Bible

[14:07]if a Christian comes and tells you the Quran is violent what

[14:11]do you tell him you tell him the Bible is violent too

[14:13]you tell him if you don't want to look at the context

[14:16]fine you know I could quote verses from the Bible that will

[14:19]show Christianity as the worst religion on Earth the religion of violence

[14:24]don't they claim Jesus was peaceful and he he taught peace tell

[14:28]them the Bible doesn't say so how and you can quote them

[14:33]verses from the Bible and I'll just mention one example and this

[14:35]example is found in the New Testament usually when you bring them

[14:38]some examples from the Old Testament the Bible has the Old Testament

[14:43]and the new the Old Testament they consider it somewhat abrogated this

[14:46]is old bring me from the New Testament you can bring them

[14:48]a verse from the New Testament in the Book of Matthew chap

[14:53]10 verse 34 write this down Jesus said these words what did

[14:58]Jesus say Jesus is the peaceful Jesus according to them he said

[15:02]I have not do not suppose that I have come to this

[15:05]earth to bring peace Jesus says in the Bible in the New

[15:09]Testament Matthew chap 10:34 do not think that I have come to

[15:16]this earth to bring peace I have not come to bring peace

[15:18]then what have you come to bring I have come with a

[15:21]sword this is not mammad this is not the Quran this is

[15:26]the Bible saying that Jesus said I have not come to bring

[15:28]peace but rather I have come to bring a sword and then

[15:33]he says I have come to turn a son against his father

[15:38]a daughter against her mother and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law so

[15:42]he's come to create fitna according to the Bible to what to

[15:45]make problems between one family make the son an enemy of his

[15:48]father daughter enemy of his mother of her mother so you tell

[15:52]the Christian you tell them wait a minute you're telling me my

[15:54]book is violent look at your book first before you attack me

[15:58]Jesus is saying in the Bible that I have not come to

[16:00]bring peace and then you say Muhammad he was a violent person

[16:06]Muhammad was what was a man of the sword your your Bible

[16:08]says that Jesus was brought with a sword he says this now

[16:11]when you tell this to the Christian what do they tell you

[16:13]they tell you wait a minute you're taking this verse out of

[16:16]context just Google this look at the Christians reply to this verse

[16:23]they will tell you context context context look at the historical context

[16:28]the linguistic the L context what did Jesus mean by the sword

[16:31]what did he mean by peace what did he mean by these

[16:36]words who was he speaking to why did so much interpretations right

[16:39]all this is it makes up the context you can't leave the

[16:42]context out or else you'll distort the meaning you tell them fine

[16:47]I accept Jesus was a peaceful man Jesus was not a man

[16:50]of hate and violence correct this verse is not saying what it

[16:55]appears to be saying because there's context correct how come when it

[16:58]comes to the Quran you don't do the same how come when

[17:01]it comes to the verses of the Quran where the Quran says

[17:04]kill the wherever you find them right away you assume this is

[17:07]violence did you go back to the context did you go back

[17:11]to the historical and the literal context no with the Quran right

[17:14]away they what they judge with the Bible no we have to

[17:17]go through a process of you see the double standard so the

[17:20]point that I'm trying to make is this any text without context

[17:27]will appear differently and than reality the true meaning will be distorted

[17:32]so if anytime a Christian tells you the Quran is what you

[17:35]tell him the Bible too don't play games with me you have

[17:37]to look at the context if you don't want to look at

[17:39]the context then the Bible is violent too so when it comes

[17:43]to these verses of the Quran context context context so when we

[17:46]come to these verses the first verse Allah says when the four

[17:51]sacred months finish kill the mus wherever you find them what's the

[17:54]context of this ver if we go back to our and the

[17:58]books of they tell us that this this is not speaking about

[18:00]all times and all groups of the mushriks right now I go

[18:04]find a a person that for example is an idolator or doesn't

[18:07]worship Allah subhana I can just go and kill him no because

[18:11]you have to look at the context the context of this verse

[18:13]was speaking about the mus of the time of rasool Allah we

[18:17]mentioned yesterday that rasol Allah would make sometimes peace treaties with certain

[18:22]groups just like the Jews of Ben they he would make peace

[18:29]treaties and those groups would be allies of rasool Allah you had

[18:32]certain situations where the Allies ofo Allah they would betray rasool they

[18:36]would break the peace treaty and they would kill some Muslims just

[18:40]like what happened in the peace treaty of Alia Alia was a

[18:45]peace treaty that made with the people of Mecca the mus of

[18:47]mea you respect us we respect you you don't kill any Muslim

[18:51]we don't kill any one of you they made a treaty they

[18:53]signed it Allah signed it what happened a few days after a

[18:58]few months after they they arrested a few Muslims and they killed

[19:01]them so they broke the treaty after they broke the treaty Allah

[19:04]reveals this verse you see once you know the context it makes

[19:09]much more sense once they broke the treaty and they killed Muslims

[19:12]Allah brings down the verse and he tells them now you have

[19:16]the right to what you have the right to fight them and

[19:18]you have the right to retaliate this is self-defense because they started

[19:22]it they are the ones that killed Muslims but in fact Allah

[19:27]does not say kill them now this verse subh proves the tolerance

[19:30]of Islam not the violence why Allah tells them Allah tells the

[19:34]Muslims yes even though they broke the treaty even though they killed

[19:38]Muslims do not retaliate now wait wait until the four sacred months

[19:46]finish maybe they are doing worship the mus they are doing worship

[19:49]they're doing ha they used to do Hajj let them finish their

[19:51]four sacred months and then attack them you see even with your

[19:55]enemies the Quran says have patience do not attack them at a

[19:57]time in which they are busy fight them like a man remember

[20:01]when they are ready so Allah says let the four sacred months

[20:03]finish only then go and retaliate this is self-defense correct does this

[20:08]speak about going and finding any non-muslim on the street and killing

[20:11]him absolutely not this is not the context of this verse and

[20:16]to prove this we said anytime we want to correctly understand the

[20:19]verses of the Quran we have to look at the surrounding verses

[20:21]correct the surrounding verses clarify these vague verses Allah subhana tala in

[20:27]the same Surah Surah the verse before it you see when you

[20:30]just pick and choose without reading the whole chapter of course you're

[20:36]going to distort the meaning Allah subhana tala in the verse before

[20:39]it he says this he [Music] says in the verse before Allah

[20:58]makes an exception do not fight all the mush he says fight

[21:00]the mush except he makes an exception he says except the ones

[21:06]that do not break the treaty with you the ones that respect

[21:08]the peace treaty with you Muslims you respect the peace treaty do

[21:11]not fight them do not engage in war with them so at

[21:14]the end of the day what's this verse saying common sense it's

[21:17]saying whoever fights you you fight them back if the Quran hadn't

[21:21]have said that the intellect would tell you that so the Quran

[21:24]is not telling us anything new beyond what our intellect tells us

[21:26]that if someone has come to kill you breaks the peace treaty

[21:30]you have the right to retaliate what's so violent about this every

[21:34]human being believes in this every San human being and then Allah

[21:37]he mentions it a second time twice Allah he mentions this he

[21:41]makes the clarification but yet some people take it out of context

[21:45]and and then Allah says in verse 7 and verse 12 Allah

[21:50]in one verse he says Allah says the only time you fight

[21:59]them is if what if they betray you if there's no betrayal

[22:06]there's Mutual respectus you don't fight them you only fight them when

[22:10]you bet when they betray you when they tell you we want

[22:13]to be at peace and then they come and conspire against you

[22:15]they kill arrest Muslims and kill them once again this is what

[22:20]this is common sense so this verse is clear we have to

[22:23]look at the context it's speaking about self-defense this is the first

[22:26]verse the second and the third verses where Allah subhana says the

[22:32]other verse Allah subhana wa he says until he says Allah says

[22:46]fight the Hypocrites fight the what do Jihad against the kuf against

[22:50]the people of the book they these verses are also not General

[22:56]that's why when you go go back to the books of they

[22:57]tell us that that you have to look at the context the

[23:01]context of all these verses is what is self-defense anytime the kufar

[23:05]fight you you fight back just like the story we mentioned yesterday

[23:09]the Jews of B when God is saying here fight the people

[23:13]of the book the Christians and the Jews he's speaking about those

[23:17]groups those groups that you made a treaty with they became your

[23:21]allies and then they conspired against you and came to fight you

[23:26]Allah of course is going to say do jiad against because they

[23:28]have declared war against you once again common sense so we have

[23:31]to look at the context of these verses to better understand it

[23:38]and I'll mention two verses two verses in the Holy Quran that

[23:45]these two verses they clarify they give us the general rule when

[23:48]do we fight and when do we not fight you see like

[23:51]we said we can't just cherry pick I choose one verse and

[23:55]I leave the rest this is unfair if you want to understand

[23:57]the Quran correctly you have to look at the Quran as one

[23:59]piece one book together different verses of the Quran they what they

[24:07]interpret each other so Allah subhana tal in two other places he

[24:10]tells us the rule when do we fight and when do we

[24:15]not fight these two verses should be the rule they should be

[24:18]the principle that we use in order to understand where we fight

[24:22]and where we don't fight anytime a non-muslim tells you your book

[24:26]is violent tell him no the Holy Quran clearly explains where we

[24:29]fight and where we don't fight where does he say that the

[24:33]first the first verse Allah subhana wa tala he says this he

[24:51]says Allah says do not fight those non-muslims those individuals that do

[24:59]do not fight you that do not come to usurp and take

[25:02]your land those individuals that respect you do not fight you Allah

[25:06]says do not fight them befriend them is there a problem with

[25:10]being friends with Christians and Jews and non-muslims of course not if

[25:13]they respect you you respect them you become friends with them there's

[25:18]mutual respect and then Allah makes it clear right after that he

[25:26]says Allah says the only faction that you can fight and treat

[25:37]them as enemies are those individuals that have come to fight you

[25:41]to take your land take you out of your land to steal

[25:45]your land this is the in in in the Arabic language means

[25:48]what it means only Allah says you are only allowed to fight

[25:54]these individuals these are your only enemies the ones that fight you

[25:57]you see Allah makes it clear those individuals that fought you with

[26:07]the sword and they came and they took your land yes this

[26:11]person is an oppressor I have the right to what to defend

[26:15]myself once again this is common sense every human being believes in

[26:17]this if someone has come to steal your house you're just going

[26:19]to you're just going to start you know look and watch of

[26:22]course you're going to defend yourself if someone has come to fight

[26:25]you you're not going to defend yourself so this is common sense

[26:27]this is the first part of the Quran that we have to

[26:31]always tell non-muslims as a golden rule the second Golden Rule Subhan

[26:34]Allah this one's even more beautiful Allah subhana wa tala in another

[26:38]part of the Quran he gives us he tells us why Allah

[26:45]has mandated Jihad this verse it says in two areas Muslims can

[26:48]do Jihad two areas Allah says in the Holy Quran Allah has

[26:56]given permission to the Believers to to fight in two scenarios Jihad

[27:00]is in two scenarios only this is number one those individuals that

[27:14]were oppressed their land is taken from them their family members are

[27:18]killed they were fought against if I am oppressed by a group

[27:21]here I have the right to defend myself Allah makes it clear

[27:25]and then after that Allah says if I if I was taken

[27:31]out of my land if my land was confiscated unjustly taken from

[27:37]me here Allah says I have given you permission to fight Common

[27:41]Sense correct every human being believes in this if someone has come

[27:44]to kill you take your land you fight of course this is

[27:48]the first instance and the second scenario in which a Muslim has

[27:51]the right to fight is this Allah says the second time you

[28:06]can fight the second reason why Jihad is allowed is to protect

[28:10]this monasteries churches synagogues and masjids Allah says anytime a church a

[28:17]synagogue Allah uses these words Church synagogue Masjid monter they are under

[28:23]attack by an oppressor you go and you defend you fight Subhan

[28:28]Allah Jihad was ordained by Allah to protect synagogues and churches and

[28:35]then they tell you Muslims are violent the Quran is violent my

[28:38]Quran is telling me fight to defend the houses of worship of

[28:44]other religions I when I see that someone is attacking a church

[28:46]or a synagogue I have a right to go and do Jihad

[28:50]and protect the synagogue in because this is a house of yes

[28:52]even though we disagree with a Christian and with a Jew and

[28:56]our you know Faith but at the end of the day this

[28:58]is a place of worship God is worshiped here so the Quran

[29:02]says that if it wasn't for Jihad then who would protect these

[29:06]mosques who would protect these churches and synagogues this is the second

[29:13]reason why Allah subhana wa tala tells us to what to do

[29:16]Jihad so number one anytime self-defense number two if a place of

[29:20]worship is being attacked to be destroyed and that's why you saw

[29:24]in Iraq you saw in irq when Isis they attack churches you

[29:27]saw the you know the Shia they went and they even protected

[29:32]the what the Christians and the churches because we have no problem

[29:35]with a Christian just because he's a Christian or a Jew just

[29:38]because he's a Jew if he considers me as an enemy he's

[29:40]my enemy that's the only that's the only rule that we have

[29:44]just because he's a Christian or a Jew he's my enemy never

[29:45]bring me one verse in the Quran that says that don't take

[29:49]it out of context bring me one one scholar that says that

[29:52]so these are the verses my friends that we have to tell

[29:57]the non-muslims tell him Jihad is to protect your churches yes if

[29:59]I see a church as being attacked I as a Muslim have

[30:03]an obligation to protect that church and then you tell me we're

[30:06]violent we're non- tolerant with other with non-muslims so the problem is

[30:10]when we are taking these verses out of context of course we

[30:14]won't understand anything and that's why all our say these verses have

[30:18]nothing to do with the person's Faith doesn't matter what his faith

[30:21]is what matters is if he considers me an enemy or not

[30:26]if he's unjust with me or not if if a Muslim comes

[30:29]to attack me then I have the right to defend my it

[30:30]doesn't matter what his faith is this is common sense and that's

[30:34]why Subhan Allah you see many times when I am sometimes when

[30:40]I travel I you know I come to the US or I

[30:42]go to other countries in the west sometimes I'm interrogated you know

[30:46]there's there's an automatic you know uh list when they see your

[30:49]name and you know your beard and everything automatically they assume that

[30:53]you know you're either a terrorist or you're tied or whatever so

[30:56]they always interrogate me about you know about these groups like Isis

[31:01]and whatever trying to sometimes they try to create a link between

[31:04]you and Isis you know what what I usually tell them I

[31:06]tell them sir look don't treat me as the as the criminal

[31:11]I'm the victim just like you just like Isis wants to kill

[31:16]you they want to kill me too why because I am sh

[31:18]I a follower of b a follower of B is number one

[31:22]on Isis is what death list number two come the Christians and

[31:26]the Jews how many Christians and Jews have have they killed 100

[31:30]150 200 how many Shia have they killed they've killed thousands upon

[31:34]thousands upon and not just Shia they even kill sunnis you see

[31:37]how many sunnis they have killed in Iraq and Syria hundreds upon

[31:42]thousands that's why you see Subhan Allah from time to time they

[31:45]fight with each other you have for example Isis and you have

[31:50]in you're both sunnis you're both fighting for one cause to kill

[31:54]Bashar sometimes you see they kill each other sometimes you find Isis

[31:58]fighting against Isis what is this proof are these people truly Muslims

[32:01]they're fighting for Islam No if they're fighting for Islam then why

[32:05]do you kill Muslims then why do you fight with it's all

[32:07]about power it's what it's personal dun materialistic reasons they fight they

[32:13]want Power they use Islam as a cover up to to what

[32:18]to give a pretext to to you know justify their crimes and

[32:21]their actions just like what happened in Orlando you think this guy

[32:25]was a practicing educated Muslim he wanted to commit a crime he

[32:28]used Islam as a pretext so I tell them look don't make

[32:30]me the criminal I'm the victim there are certain areas in Iraq

[32:34]Syria I would never dare go being a Shia because I would

[32:36]be killed even though I'm a Muslim and now you're treating me

[32:41]as a criminal maybe in Orlando they killed 50 people but tell

[32:44]them every day Isis and Iraq kills 50 people every day unfortunately

[32:47]that doesn't make it to the headlines because who cares about Iraqi

[32:51]dying and now you're treating me as a criminal every day people

[32:56]are dying in Syria and other parts of the musl Muslim countries

[32:58]so we have to make this clear to them that these people

[33:03]have nothing to do with Islam there was an interesting story that

[33:07]I read a few months ago it said that a Christian man
