[0:00]the truth has to be said and i am not here to
[0:04]bash because yes the media speaks about the problems of video games
[0:06]and the consequences of video games i would like to alert about
[0:11]a certain type of video games and also how it is being
[0:16]used listen to the following statistics in the united kingdom the video
[0:23]game industry in 2019 was worth 5.35 billion pounds in the world
[0:30]the same year worth 153 billion dollars 90 of us children kids
[0:42]play video games 36 million users are being registered in this country
[0:47]to be playing video games but perhaps one of the most difficult
[0:53]statistics to somehow try to work around is on average 2080 statistic
[0:57]on average and a person a child from the age of 12
[1:03]to 15 spends on average 14 hours a week playing video games
[1:07]that's two hours a day yes now there are some who have
[1:12]come forward and said video games are very educational they're very good
[1:17]they're helpful because they increase their attention and concentration span for some
[1:22]people because they're focused on certain ways yes there are others have
[1:25]said what it does is it keeps it keeps the children busy
[1:29]keeps them engaged there are those today that seek to continuously present
[1:35]playing video games generally speaking as what as a positive phenomena in
[1:39]society no doubt there is a role for some video games out
[1:43]there today that can be educational that can be beneficial we are
[1:47]not going to paint all of them with the same brush but
[1:51]as expected here is where we're going to have to discuss within
[1:55]a couple of minutes two problems excessive usage and the type of
[2:01]games we are playing yes have you heard of a man by
[2:03]the name of brenton torrent brenton torrent anybody heard of this particular
[2:11]individual yes a man who was the perpetrator of the massacre in
[2:15]christchurch new zealand where he entered the mosque and massacred all those
[2:21]muslims yes over 50 of them he killed them in his manifesto
[2:25]this is what he says not that you want to come and
[2:29]bite my head off because i'm going to mention the name of
[2:32]a game this is what he says fortnite trained me to be
[2:34]a killer and to what then he goes on to say whereby
[2:38]i step on the bodies of those i kill that's all i'm
[2:46]going to leave you with yes today what we're saying is there
[2:50]are the types of video games which are violent sexual orientation in
[2:55]terms of pushing for those kind of things drugs blood yes in
[3:02]a survey conducted by a website called yes quite popular when it
[3:07]pops published statistics in the united states it was asked children were
[3:10]asked which type of games do you play 75 percent of them
[3:12]said violent do we as parents have a say in what our
[3:17]children play which kind of games they play or somehow they've developed
[3:22]this interesting games that are passed between them and we are completely
[3:26]oblivious the dangers of these violence promoting games yes is there and
[3:33]scientific data behavioral research have pointed to it yes and we must
[3:40]alert ourselves our communities to ensure that they recognize the problem with
[3:44]this the second is what is the idea that it completely becomes
[3:49]to the extent that especially in holiday seasons like now in other
[3:54]times of the year where the children may not have as much
[3:58]to do they are there for a number of hours playing games
[4:01]and the parents are completely what completely turning their back on this
[4:06]and allowing this to be what enhanced there is a problem today
[4:10]that the united nations health body has identified and that is gaming
[4:19]addiction you and i know that exists it definitely exists yes in
[4:22]the recognition that there are those who seek to somehow remove the
[4:27]problems that we have with video gaming let me give you some
[4:30]of them for example there is the issue to do with physical
[4:34]health those who are continuously playing and disregard all these elements regarding
[4:38]moderation or having control they're having problems with obesity there are problems
[4:42]with mental health there are problems with anti-social behavior problems with communication
[4:47]breakdown they are not able to have a proper conversation because they're
[4:51]hours on front of the screen playing with someone there is the
[4:55]rise now of online abuse manipulation isn't it grooming that exists today
[5:01]when it comes to these particular practices at the same time but
[5:06]there is a very interesting notion that i would like to leave
[5:09]you with in this particular regard and that is what and that
[5:12]is when our children are continuously playing games what are they seeking
[5:15]to do that is competitiveness they want to become the best they
[5:19]want to say to their friends i have achieved the best i
[5:22]am at this particular level yes is it it that's the whole
[5:24]point otherwise while they're playing the game yes it's fun but it
[5:27]is also highly competitive it is teaching our children success comes when
[5:32]you become the best in this game and they begin to forget
[5:37]the importance of hard work and dedication in life outside the game
[5:42]they begin to live in this virtual space and all they're concerned
[5:48]about is how to become the best in that particular game do
[5:54]you see why the industry is pushing this it's leading to more
[5:58]and more laziness is leading to more and more people losing their
[6:03]focus their attention their objective of this particular existence now some people
[6:08]say don't just talk about problems give us solutions please we are
[6:10]all parents we have struggles when our when it comes to our
[6:15]kids they're constantly wanting to play games here i give you six
[6:18]tips very quickly about how we should deal with this number one
[6:22]look at yourself before you look at your children yes it's very
[6:26]easy to say to your child stop playing few hours this game
[6:29]and that game whereas you yourself are what doing so so we
[6:36]have to scrutinize ourselves before we do for children number two we
[6:39]need to sit down calmly explain with our children the problems with
[6:45]this if it is excessive it may lead to addiction leads to
[6:47]other problems number one number two and must have a plan as
[6:49]parents do not just leave the children to play however many hours
[6:52]they want make it structured make it not every day perhaps every
[6:56]other day or few you know once you know every few days
[7:00]have a plan and a plan that is agreed by both husband
[7:04]and wife there must be discipline what happened to the notion of
[7:07]discipline may allah bless our fathers and forefathers and you know they
[7:11]had much more discipline than some of our parents that today yes
[7:15]number three encourage alternatives including physical exercise and activities which could be
[7:24]something that they would do instead of playing games video games yes
[7:27]that is very important and take part in these activities what's wrong
[7:30]with the father or the mother playing football or other physical sports
[7:34]or other activities which are healthy for the child instead of just
[7:39]encouraging them to play video games number four of great importance is
[7:46]when it comes to the children it's of the great importance that
[7:49]we involve them in discussions in gatherings of family members and friends
[7:53]what happens is i have seen this when people are gathering yes
[7:57]as friends and family when business what happens you find the kids
[8:00]are all playing games on their phones and the ad also having
[8:04]a conversation involve them in the conversation have talks with them sit
[8:08]down have quizzes yes something that does not give them the impression
[8:11]that that's it family gatherings is all about what you go and
[8:15]play your own games and do whatever you wish and number five
[8:19]ensure that you participate and take part in playing the video game
[8:23]with your son or daughter you say what i play the video
[8:27]game yes well i remember one of them i said to him
[8:30]he was complaining my son is on social media a lot i
[8:33]said are you on social media he said astagfirullah i said why
[8:35]he said facade book now you don't want to be on facebook
[8:41]but you want yours be there to see how he interacts yes
[8:46]now you also take part in these games play with them see
[8:48]what kind of attitude they have and the final point is explain
[8:51]the ethos of life in islamic teachings and there is an amazing
[8:56]ayah and everything in the quran is amazing i leave you with
[8:58]this chapter 21 verse number 16.
[9:00]recite this ayah and discuss it with your children allah says i
[9:09]have not created the heavens and the earth and whatever is in
[9:11]between for games for amusement allah says it's not the purpose i
[9:19]have not created you for this no problem you can play of
[9:23]course certainly those at the early ages they can play but it
[9:26]should not be the e the absolute objective it should not be
[9:29]the goal it should not be something that we occupies them all
[9:35]the time inshallah [Music] you
