[0:00]remember Allah foreign [Applause] foreign give me that peace foreign [Applause] foreign
[2:29][Music] [Applause] [Applause] foreign Muhammad [Applause] [Applause] one of the most important
[4:04]factors that influence and impact a person's life is their beliefs the
[4:10]religion that you believe in not only does it impact your life
[4:15]as an individual but it impacts communities it impacts countries impacts the
[4:23]politics and the decisions that are made of a community and the
[4:31]religion is defined as the system of life that connects people with
[4:36]two religion has two functions one it has a vertical function a
[4:46]vertical relationship between you and God and also establishes a horizontal relationship
[4:52]between you and your neighbors and your family and your relatives and
[4:57]your friends so religion plays a very significant role in the life
[5:05]of a person and it shapes your outlook on life it shapes
[5:09]your interactions the way you perceive things the way you do things
[5:13]and see things and we live in a Time where organized religion
[5:22]is in a decline now for thousands of years ever since people
[5:28]have existed there have been signs of religion people have been practicing
[5:32]religion go and look at an archaeological site you see that you
[5:36]could see the traces of beliefs and the religion and a practice
[5:42]from ancient people that lived five thousand years ago or even longer
[5:46]so for all this time religion has been positive there has been
[5:52]growth but now in the last decades we've seen a decline in
[5:57]religion we've seen people disassociated with religion we see people disenchanted with
[6:01]religion and there's a growing antagonism towards religion and organized religion religious
[6:09]organizations and members of the clergy as well and this is something
[6:17]that is very clear statistically speaking for example according to the Gallup
[6:24]poll in 2020 47 percent of Americans said they belong to a
[6:31]church a synagogue or a mosque whereas in in 2018 this was
[6:37]at 50 percent and in 1999 70 of Americans said they they
[6:45]associate with the religion so imagine from 1999 until today which is
[6:51]a little bit more than 20 years you see that there has
[6:58]been a major decrease in the number of people that associate with
[7:04]a religion and furthermore we see that there's the sentiment of people
[7:09]speaking against religion and saying religion is not relevant in my life
[7:14]I don't need religion anymore if I want to be happy I
[7:15]don't need to have religion I don't need to have faith and
[7:20]we see that people speaking about religion oh religion is bad it
[7:25]controls your life tell you this and tell you that this is
[7:29]halal this is Haram this is makro this is mustahab and you
[7:32]see there is a growing sentiment of people against religion so now
[7:39]what is our role what should we do well first of all
[7:48]we need to understand that despite all of these negative sentiments and
[7:53]this antagonism against religion religion not only remains to be something very
[8:01]important in our life relevant in our life but religion is very
[8:06]necessary for our lives it's not only relevant but it's necessary we
[8:11]need religion a person can't say I do not need religion religion
[8:16]I don't need it it's not a part of my life and
[8:20]there are many reasons why we are still in need of religion
[8:25]despite all of the advancements in technology and science in medicine we
[8:31]are still in need of religion and a person can't say that
[8:38]religion is irrelevant I don't need religion no we are we are
[8:42]in desperate need of religion in our lives and I will mention
[8:47]the following points why why is religion important in my life why
[8:51]should I as an individual be a person who practices religion there's
[8:56]a very important question today a lot of the youth a lot
[8:58]of people who go to universities go to schools they need to
[9:03]be convinced and you can't you have to convince them in a
[9:05]logical way you have to convince them through reason why is religion
[9:11]important in your life why is religion important in my life why
[9:13]do we all need to practice religion in our lives the first
[9:20]point my dear brothers and sisters is that whether we acknowledge it
[9:26]or not every single individual is in desperate need of religion because
[9:32]it's a part of our creation it's a part of it's a
[9:38]part of your DNA it's an intrinsic feature of every human being
[9:43]just like we're programmed to eat we're programmed to sleep we're programmed
[9:50]to live our lives there are certain things that are a part
[9:52]of our Lives can you tell a person why do you need
[9:55]to eat can you tell a person why do you need to
[9:56]have friends why do you need to socialize the same reason we
[10:03]are programmed to find our creator to find our purpose to worship
[10:07]and Allah says in the Quran this is the creation this is
[10:18]the fitra no person could come and say I don't need religion
[10:21]I don't need God in my life every single person you can't
[10:32]come and change the creation of Allah now some people they come
[10:38]and say no I don't need religion I've never needed religion in
[10:41]my life yes now you might be fooling yourself you say you
[10:45]don't need religion but go and put yourself in a dangerous circumstance
[10:48]go and put yourself in dangers and Allah talks about this in
[10:53]the Quran Allah says I am God there's no need to worship
[11:04]God I worship me at that moment he says I believe in
[11:20]the Lord Israel believed in and I am from the Muslims a
[11:23]man comes to him he tells him tell me about my Lord
[11:31]tell me about God how do I feel God the Imam he
[11:34]knows this person is a sailor this person goes out in the
[11:40]ship goes out in the middle of the ocean so the Imam
[11:42]he tells him have you been in a Safina in a ship
[11:45]before he says Bella he said has have you been in a
[11:59]shipwreck before where there's no Lifeboat that's going to come and save
[12:02]you and you're not going to be able to swim anywhere to
[12:04]save your place he says yes then the Imam tells him at
[12:10]that moment the moment of desperation when you had no one and
[12:12]nothing that can help you at that moment did your heart have
[12:26]faith even a little bit that there is something that's going to
[12:30]save you the man he said yes I did then the Imam
[12:33]tells him so he says that that your heart attached to that
[12:46]is God that is Allah when you have hope in a greater
[12:52]power and we see that for as long as humans have existed
[12:57]they have had hope in a greater power this is why the
[12:59]job of the prophets the job of the Quran the job of
[13:04]the religion is not to tell people there's a God because everyone
[13:06]already knows that that's already programmed in people what does the Quran
[13:10]do what did the prophets come and do they came and told
[13:14]people worship the right God because people they have that need to
[13:17]worship but instead of worshiping God who did they start worshiping the
[13:20]idols the Sun the moon a cow here and there so the
[13:26]pr the job of the prophets is not to tell people you
[13:28]need to worship because people have already been worshiping all humans are
[13:34]have some sort of worship the job of the prophets and the
[13:39]Quran is to guide people to worship Allah so this is the
[13:42]fitra that we talk about we're talking about the needs and there
[13:47]are five needs there are five reasons why every person worships is
[13:50]in need of religion and in need of worship the first is
[13:54]an intrinsic need it's your fitrada Allah created you with second why
[13:59]do we need to have religion in my life why is religion
[14:04]important to My Life religion is important because it fulfills my purpose
[14:09]in life without religion I'm vulnerable I realize I'm vulnerable how long
[14:14]do I have to live how much money can I hold on
[14:16]in this Dunya at the end of the day there is a
[14:20]wada there is a separation from this Dunya there's a separation from
[14:24]everything that we have gathered and compiled in this Dunya so I
[14:31]need a sense of fulfillment I need a sense of completion who
[14:34]do I turn to I turn to the Lord that is there
[14:39]for me I turn to the one who has always been there
[14:40]for me the one who says the one who promises to answer
[14:49]me foreign and yes we have a purpose my purpose is to
[15:02]seek completion how do I seek completion through getting closer to the
[15:07]Eternal and that is Allah this is why Allah says the purpose
[15:22]of your creation is about the worship I don't want risk from
[15:27]you God doesn't want money from you God doesn't want food from
[15:30]you comes from God when you worship you feel a sense of
[15:40]fulfillment God doesn't need our worship I feel a sense of completion
[15:43]I feel that I'm holding on to the greatest power and that
[15:49]is something that will give me Assurance because Allah says in the
[15:53]Quran verily if I want to seek Assurance if I want to
[16:00]be at peace if I want to remove the stress and the
[16:04]distress from my heart then I need to connect to a higher
[16:06]power what is that higher power that could help me and this
[16:12]is why my dear brothers and sisters even scientifically speak speaking right
[16:17]now there are scientific reports and data that shows that a person
[16:21]who has religion some sort of belief now put Islam aside we're
[16:26]just talking about belief someone who practices a belief someone who has
[16:30]religion they are much happier they are going to find a cure
[16:38]to their illness and there was a report done by the a
[16:42]research done by the Mayo Clinic you've all heard of the Mayo
[16:46]Clinic one of the most renowned hospitals and institutions in the United
[16:50]States it says that most Studies have shown that religious involvement and
[16:56]spirituality are associated with Better Health outcomes including greater longevity coping skills
[17:03]and health related quality of life even during terminal illness so even
[17:09]two people they're both going to die they both have terminal illness
[17:15]but the one who has Faith this person shows more signs of
[17:19]happiness why because you're attaching you because you know you you have
[17:23]someone who will listen to you you know you have a higher
[17:24]power that is there for you as opposed to someone who does
[17:30]not have anything and doesn't believe in anything today's studies show that
[17:37]the person people who practice religion they the the rate of suicide
[17:43]is much less the rate of stress and depression is much less
[17:48]and you recover much quicker from a illness because it helps you
[17:56]because there's a lot that has to do with the psychology even
[18:00]when you're sick your psychology could impact your moods and your moods
[18:04]impact your health so yes believing in God and practicing religion does
[18:10]have scientifically proven does have an impact on a person's life even
[18:15]if you're vulnerable when you're connected to a higher power you feel
[18:19]much stronger so this is the second reason the third my dear
[18:24]brothers and sisters why do we have why do we need to
[18:25]have religion in our lives today some people say religion is controlling
[18:29]religion this and that religion yes but religion at the end of
[18:37]the day it removes the chaos we all want to order in
[18:40]society does anyone want to live in a state of Anarchy does
[18:45]anyone want to live in a society of lawlessness where there are
[18:48]no rules religion is the first system that came and brought laws
[18:52]when governments fall it is the religion that is going to hold
[18:57]people it is religion that is going to put sets of rules
[18:59]and regulations it helps guide your moral compass and this is something
[19:07]very important yes some people they say I don't like religion not
[19:10]because religion doesn't make sense to them but because they don't want
[19:13]anyone telling them do this and do that they don't want to
[19:18]have order they don't want to have a system in their lives
[19:22]and we have to acknowledge that religion plays a very vital role
[19:28]in society where it guides people it helps people have a moral
[19:31]compass look at what rasulullah he was he came as a prophet
[19:39]he was sent as a prophet to those in the Arabian Peninsula
[19:42]the Arabs they were living between I've said this many times they
[19:46]were living between two empires the Roman Empire and the Persian Empire
[19:49]these were two civilizations that were rising and the Arabs they were
[19:55]fighting amongst one another they had no civilization they had no culture
[19:59]they had nothing they were so bad and decline that neither the
[20:02]Roman Empire nor the Persian Empire wanted to conquer them imagine you're
[20:05]so bad that no one wants to even of course they didn't
[20:10]know there was oil at that time in that area so um
[20:17]he came and within a span of very short few years rasulullah
[20:23]came and he ended up making those group of people who were
[20:27]deserts they were they were they were in the desert they were
[20:31]fighting one another he made them be the leaders of the world
[20:34]because they were following rasulullah and yes as long as we continue
[20:40]to follow religion Allah will bring success the moment we stop then
[20:44]we will see that there's going to be a decline so this
[20:48]was the third reason religion brings order to a person's life fourth
[20:52]my dear brothers and sisters religion helps us have laws of interaction
[20:59]how should I deal with one another today unfortunately we live in
[21:03]a time where we see a child disrespect his or her father
[21:06]we live in a time where we see brothers and sisters there's
[21:11]no respect with one another religion comes and says no this is
[21:14]a part of this is a part of your religion especially Islam
[21:16]as a religion especially Islam is a religion it tells you in
[21:20]order to be a Muslim it's not just your prayers it's your
[21:23]interaction how you deal with your neighbor how you deal with your
[21:28]friends how you deal with your community how you take care of
[21:31]people around you and this is something very important this is very
[21:37]positive in Religion Today a lot of people they only come and
[21:41]look at some of the negative features they don't come and talk
[21:44]about how religion helps people be good neighbors helps a son and
[21:48]a daughter and husband and wife and cousins and relationships how do
[21:55]you build strong and healthy relationships religion comes and tells me to
[22:00]take care of the poor if there's someone poor it's a burden
[22:03]it's a responsibility upon me to take care of the needy whereas
[22:06]someone who doesn't have religion they say I don't need to there's
[22:11]no morality today right now they come and they say they say
[22:13]there's no more there's no religion therefore there's no morality we say
[22:17]no we take our laws of morality from our religion and this
[22:23]is very important you start caring for the need and here once
[22:27]again there are studies studies philanthropic studies show that people with a
[22:33]religious affiliation give away give in charity many times more than people
[22:38]who do not practice religion so you're going to be a person
[22:43]who contributes to society a person who gives back not just the
[22:46]person who takes and there was a research by Indiana University it
[22:50]found that Americans with any religious affiliation made an average annual charitable
[22:57]donation of a thousand five hundred and ninety versus 6905 with no
[23:02]religious affiliation so when you have a religious affiliation you're going to
[23:06]be donating you're going to be helping the poor you're going to
[23:08]be helping the needy and this is something vital for the success
[23:14]of a healthy Society and of course you're going to be a
[23:18]person we're talking about those who follow religion not those who just
[23:24]say they follow religion you're going to be tolerant of other people
[23:28]look at the Quran the Quran says Allah does not stop you
[23:44]from showing love and compassion to those who are not kicking you
[23:47]out of your home even if they're not Muslim you have to
[23:50]respect them you have to honor them you have to acknowledge their
[23:54]rights the fifth and final point my dear brothers and sisters why
[23:58]is religion important and significant in our lives is because religion helps
[24:03]me build the future we all are worried about the future I
[24:08]want to build tomorrow I want to make sure that I'm ready
[24:12]I have Investments for tomorrow and a year from now and five
[24:15]years from now but religion tells me don't just be short-sighted five
[24:20]years is short-sighted ten years is short-sighted think of the Eternal future
[24:25]think of the afterlife is there a system other than religion that
[24:30]helps me build my afterlife and especially Islam as a religion because
[24:34]there are other religions that don't necessarily believe in the akhara for
[24:38]example some groups of the Jewish faith they don't believe in the
[24:42]afterlife they believe in just this Dunya whereas Islam as a religion
[24:50]it tells you build this Dunya and also build the akhara and
[24:55]religion becomes a bridge that builds the afterlife for you it makes
[24:59]you have a plan a plan to build the akhara and this
[25:04]is why it makes sense to be a person who practices religion
[25:07]it makes sense it's logical You're Building you're preparing for the future
[25:12]and this is one of the arguments that Imam used with one
[25:17]of the atheists of his time there was an atheist by the
[25:21]name of IBN this man used to always come and debate every
[25:26]day or every few days he comes and he debates there were
[25:31]others the Imam debated them and they were they were convinced they
[25:37]joined Islam this man he was stubborn the Imam uses one two
[25:40]three arguments at the end the Imam he said this listen he
[25:44]tells him listen right now if it's true if as you say
[25:51]there's no God which that is not true but if what you
[25:53]say is the truth I did not lose anything did I lose
[25:58]anything by praying did I lose anything by not drinking did I
[26:01]lose anything by not gambling did I lose anything by abiding by
[26:04]laws of Islam laws of Islam are not something that is that
[26:07]are unreasonable they're good for you even when you pray it's actually
[26:10]good for you so he tells him if you're right I do
[26:16]not lose anything you and I are the same but if you're
[26:19]wrong and there is a God then who's going to be the
[26:24]biggest loser you're going to be the biggest loser and you're not
[26:26]just going to lose something very small you're going to lose the
[26:29]Eternal afterlife you're going to lose the Accra are you willing to
[26:34]take that risk the man who stayed quiet because he had no
[26:38]reply this was an argument used by Imam sadak many hundreds of
[26:44]years later a man by the name of Pascal he came and
[26:46]he talked about it and they wrote it in philosophy books and
[26:50]they call it Pascal's wager but this was used by Imam many
[26:53]years before that so my dear brothers and sisters we mentioned the
[26:57]reasons why religion is necessary the first is because we are created
[27:03]with it it's a part of our can you escape from who
[27:07]you are this is who you are every person they they have
[27:10]that desire to worship whether they're worshiping a God they're worshiping Allah
[27:15]or they're worshiping an idol that that desire is still there second
[27:20]um every person when you worship fulfills it fulfills your purpose third
[27:26]religion brings order fourth religion provides laws of interaction and fifth religion
[27:32]builds your afterlife it's the it's the bridge to build the future
[27:38]now yes today a lot of people they leave religion not because
[27:40]these points don't make sense to them they leave religion because oh
[27:43]this person he's religious he I had a fight with him and
[27:46]therefore I don't want to be religious anymore it's a personal issue
[27:49]it's based off of emotions now is that an excuse to sacrifice
[27:52]your akhra because you had a problem with one individual group or
[27:58]one person no you should go and change your group go and
[28:00]figure out the truth don't come and say that this all I'm
[28:04]going to reject it um and yes there are people in the
[28:10]name of religion that abuse religion but that's not an enough reason
[28:13]for you to not practice religion the right religion that you're commenced
[28:17]with there were during the time of Imam Hussein during the times
[28:20]of the imams people in the name of religion they came and
[28:23]they They carried out crimes that doesn't mean that you sacrifice the
[28:27]actual religion is Muhammad is Muhammad [Applause] foreign my dear brothers and
[30:24]sisters this last Tuesday we had the elections in Michigan and in
[30:28]the United States and there is good news that came out of
[30:34]this election according to care the organization care they say that 82
[30:42]American Muslims were elected to local state and federal Offices and this
[30:48]is the highest in the history of recording of Islam in America
[30:55]where 82 people were elected and voted in to positions whether local
[31:00]government state or others in 20 in year 2020 71 were elected
[31:07]so this is the highest and this if it shows us something
[31:12]it shows us that participation is very important and it shows us
[31:19]that if we want to be heard and if we want to
[31:20]be recognized as a community as a minority then that means we
[31:24]need to be involved the civic duty now yes it doesn't guarantee
[31:30]that you're going to be able to have a society following a
[31:36]hundred percent Islamic laws at the end of the day this is
[31:39]not an Islamic country this is a democracy we Muslims we're one
[31:42]group that are living here there's other faiths there's other organs other
[31:49]other religions that are living here and but what it does guarantee
[31:53]is that our voices heard what it does guarantee is that we
[31:57]will be respected what it does guarantee is that at least whether
[32:03]we can change or not change at least we are speaking out
[32:05]and we're voicing our opinion and this is something very important no
[32:10]one said that the situation here is going to be an ideal
[32:15]perfect situation that will happen with Imam and Mahdi even in many
[32:18]Muslim countries you don't have an ideal situation but at least you're
[32:22]respected and you're getting involved and you're voicing your opinion and slowly
[32:28]more and more Muslims will be able to be in positions of
[32:36]power in office elected officials and that will be something positive for
[32:40]the Muslim Community we've seen many minority groups they came here they
[32:45]were not respected but over time give them 30 years give them
[32:48]40 years and now they're respected now no one before a politician
[32:51]makes a decision they go and they double check is this going
[32:55]to anger this group or is it not going to anger this
[33:01]group if we always want to remain away and living in a
[33:04]box then we're never going to be able to impact anyone and
[33:09]this is what Allah says in the Quran Allah says Allah is
[33:16]not going to change the circumstances of a group of people until
[33:19]they change until they change so even maybe right now we don't
[33:26]see that real change but at least maybe for our future maybe
[33:30]for our children maybe for our grandchildren the Muslim Community will be
[33:35]much stronger and they will their the opinions of the Muslim Community
[33:41]are going to be respected this is a very important point that
[33:45]I wanted to share and um we have inshallah tomorrow night we
[33:49]have a game night for the Youth which is done for the
[33:54]boys last week we've done for the girls and there's going to
[33:56]be the akam of rusul and wadu that are going to be
[34:00]taught for the uh those who are at the age of adolescence
[34:05]the age of puberty for the boys inshallah there will be other
[34:09]programs for the Sisters I wanted to remind everyone we have our
[34:14]uh fundraising dinner inshallah for this organization on December 2nd please purchase
[34:17]your ticket you could see one of the brothers here or myself
[34:23]after or you could buy it online in order to support this
[34:26]organization and purchase your ticket all right [Applause] foreign
