[1:06]assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh an average human being spends one third of his

[1:14]life sleeping and what's fascinating about our sleep is what happens when

[1:19]we sleep and that is the dreams that we see on a

[1:25]daily or nightly basis and that researchers state that an average human

[1:29]being witnesses 3 to 5 dreams every night and they last about

[1:35]2 hours so 1/4 of our 8 hour sleep is a dreaming

[1:40]so if I live 70 to 75 years which is the average

[1:47]life span then almost 1/12 or 6 years of my life will

[1:49]be spent seeing dreams and this area is very fascinating in it

[1:56]and an area of interest for many experts for example doctors scientists

[2:01]researchers philosophers psychologists and even religious scholars they're all interested about dreams

[2:07]and what we see while we dream and that you find our

[2:10]dreams are very fascinating at the same time that we could be

[2:15]sound asleep on our bed and even snoring but yet we could

[2:19]be playing a rough game of football you could be exercising you

[2:22]could be running and it feels so real and many times we

[2:27]do not know we're dreaming unless until we wake up so this

[2:31]is how real a dream feels other times you find certain dreams

[2:37]become supernatural meaning that you can find yourself immortal or you can

[2:43]see yourself for example flying in space or doing things that you

[2:47]cannot normally do in life and at times our dreams become very

[2:50]bizarre and that you come for example to your house and you

[2:55]find the Statue of Liberty in your house or you find for

[2:58]example the Kaaba in your house or you go to a distant

[3:02]country and you see your house over there other times you find

[3:05]that you're a neighbor for example of the President and so on

[3:10]and so forth so this has been an area of interest for

[3:12]many experts many scholars and that's why tonight insha'Allah I want to

[3:18]and tomorrow I want to discuss and analyze this topic from an

[3:23]Islamic perspective so that we have a better understanding of our dreams

[3:27]and I will go over three points insha'Allah point number one why

[3:31]did allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala give us the ability to see dreams of

[3:36]course there should be wisdom behind that that's number one number two

[3:41]the second question is do our dreams have any meaning or are

[3:46]they nonsense and number three how can we correctly interpret our dreams

[3:53]many people see dreams they want to understand the interpretations to their

[3:56]dreams so how are we able to correctly interpret the dreams that

[4:01]we see so we will inshallah dissect this topic for the next

[4:05]two nights but for a Salaam Hamid while Muhammad so we begin

[4:13]with the first with the first point why did allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala

[4:18]give us the ability to see dreams to begin with here we

[4:23]have a few a hadith that I greets you one hadith from

[4:26]the Imam says that when Allah initially created human beings the first

[4:31]human beings Allah had not given them the ability to see dreams

[4:36]so our forefathers the first human beings the primitive human beings they

[4:40]did not see dreams according to this hadith so how did Allah

[4:43]give them the ability or how did they develop the ability to

[4:48]see dreams the hadith says Allah subhana WA Ta'ala sent one of

[4:52]the early prophets and he began to invite people to believe in

[4:55]Allah he began to teach them invite them to believe in Allah

[4:58]so the people asked him what will we get if we believe

[5:05]and what will happen to us if we disbelieve he told them

[5:10]if you believe in Allah after you die then allah subhanaw taala

[5:14]will put you in paradise and if you disbelieve allah will punish

[5:18]you in the fires of hell after you done so what happened

[5:23]is these people they said are you kidding me after we die

[5:26]we have seen the body is just lays without moving in the

[5:31]grave so there's no paradise there's absolutely no hell so what are

[5:36]you speaking about when you're saying that the human being after he

[5:38]dies he will be either in paradise or he will be for

[5:42]example in hell and there's a hadith from a sir allah sallallahu

[5:45]alaihi wa sallam that says al carro EMA Raoul attunement Leal Jana

[5:52]ohhohh for atonement how far along near on every human beings grave

[5:56]is one of two either it's a garden from the gardens of

[6:00]the paradises of Allah or it's a pit in the fires of

[6:02]hell of Allah so the evil will be punished and the good

[6:05]will be given a reward this isn't the grave this is before

[6:11]this is what the Prophet told them they disbelieve they said no

[6:15]we've seen at that person nothing happens - there's absolutely nothing no

[6:31]gave them the ability to see dreams so that they can understand

[6:34]how a person could be sound asleep not moving but at the

[6:37]same time he could be for example enjoying something or he could

[6:43]be punished sometimes when were sleeping it someone is looking at me

[6:47]when I'm sleeping I am completely move 'less no sounds no movement

[6:51]but however I could be enjoying something very beautiful I could be

[6:55]on a vacation I could be eating some good food other times

[6:59]I could see a nightmare and nothing will show on my body

[7:02]so I could either enjoy or be punished while I am sound

[7:09]asleep when they saw this the Prophet told them in that way

[7:12]allah subhanho wa taala can punish you or reward you in the

[7:17]grave even though the body does not move you see the body

[7:19]is move less it does not move it's as if there's absolutely

[7:22]nothing affecting it but however in its mind it is being affected

[7:27]so in the same way that in dreams we could be rewarded

[7:29]or punished and that way after we die in a lemon butter

[7:34]we could be rewarded or punished so this is the first honey

[7:38]from the Imams that tell us how our dreams developed and what's

[7:40]the purpose of our dreams so that we can better understand Aleman

[7:49]that one reason why allah subhanaw taala allows us to see dreams

[7:54]is to stop us from committing certain Hara max you see sometimes

[8:05]them we are hurt by them but however sometimes as the Quran

[8:17]the Imam says we commit certain sins and nothing stops us from

[8:21]our sins until one night we see a nightmare this nightmare is

[8:29]very scary and this nightmare could be a deterrent from the Haram

[8:34]which I am always committing for example how many people of you

[8:38]how many of you have seen in their dreams or have heard

[8:42]stories of people that have seen a dream where for example is

[8:45]the day of judgement and Allah wants to punish them and Allah

[8:49]has telling them that you are who have committed these sins and

[8:52]I will take you and throw you in the fires of hell

[8:57]you begin to panic but you wake up you say alhamdulillah it

[8:59]was only a dream sometimes Allah has sent you a message he

[9:02]wants you to stop he needs a deterrent so through a nightmare

[9:08]Allah Subhanahu WA Ta'ala stops you from committing a certain Haram Act

[9:13]and there are many stories of certain ulema or individuals would have

[9:17]which had for example a sin or bad habit and through a

[9:19]nightmare that they saw they stopped committing that's how long so these

[9:25]are two a hadith that tell us what's the purpose of these

[9:27]dreams and why allah subhanaw taala gave us the ability to see

[9:30]dreams but likewise you find that sometimes we can discover things or

[9:38]get ideas beneficial ideas from our dreams how so it's mentioned that

[9:43]there is a german scientist by the name of kou kelly who

[9:47]lived almost 100 hundred fifty years ago he was a scientist a

[9:53]chemist and he was trying to figure out the structure of the

[9:57]benzene molecule there's a molecule called the benzene molecule he found out

[10:02]how many particles it had or atoms but he could not figure

[10:08]out how the structure of it was he tried so much he

[10:10]could not until one night he sees a dream what does he

[10:15]see he sees a dream he sees particles like like snakes you

[10:19]see snakes which were particles and they're just moving and dancing and

[10:26]then they begin to form circular shapes they just begin to go

[10:29]and round shapes after each other so they go and go after

[10:35]each other they form a circle and then it hits him he

[10:38]says wait a minute the structure of this molecule could be circular

[10:42]he wakes up he goes and he does his test he sees

[10:46]yes it's right and he figures out that the structure of that

[10:49]monic molecules circular how did he figure that out it was through

[10:53]his dreams and that's why if you go if you google his

[10:55]name and just write dreams you'll see all the websites mention how

[10:57]I'm beneficial his dream was so this is one way that we

[11:02]can benefit from our dreams many times we get ideas creative ideas

[11:04]ideas that help us in our jobs in our academic career and

[11:09]we get the idea that initial idea from a dream that we

[11:12]see this could be from allah subhana wa ta'ala helping us another

[11:17]example that's mentioned is that the person that invented the sewing machine

[11:23]or the thread and there and the you know the needle that

[11:27]person had a difficult time in discovering how to incorporate the thread

[11:31]and the needle together how until one night the person sees a

[11:37]dream he sees native people they're holding spears and at the tip

[11:41]of the spear there is a hole so when that person sees

[11:45]in his dream that there is a spear and there's a hole

[11:47]it clicks that there should be a needle and on the top

[11:51]of it there should be a hole and you put the thread

[11:52]through it just like you see right now that is used so

[11:57]even something as simple as that this idea was gone from a

[11:59]dream was taken from a dream so you see how allah subhanaw

[12:04]taala a can give us many ideas in our dreams so this

[12:06]is the first point why did allah subhana WA Ta'ala give us

[12:09]the ability to see dreams you see that there are all these

[12:11]beneficial factors and aspects to our dreams so this is point number

[12:19]one point number two that we addressed was do our dreams have

[12:24]a meaning or not every night we see dreams like we mentioned

[12:30]we see three to five dreams that lasts about two hours every

[12:32]night if we sleep eight hours let's say but do our dreams

[12:37]have a meaning should I try to discover what's the meaning or

[12:40]should I just leave it because there's absolutely no meaning now when

[12:43]you come to for example psychology as you many have you have

[12:47]already read Freud for example he believes that our dreams are nonsense

[12:51]and this taught in universities today any psychology class you'll take they'll

[12:56]tell you Freud he has many opinions and theories about our dreams

[13:03]and amongst the things that he says is that our dreams are

[13:06]nonsense they don't have a true meaning behind it in fact he

[13:12]says indeed that our dreams are a way in which we express

[13:16]our deep emotions desires and anxieties how so and that Freud says

[13:21]that many of us we have certain Dyer's that we want to

[13:27]express but we can't in the society why because it's a taboo

[13:30]because we're ashamed because it's unaccepted in the society so there's an

[13:35]obstacle from me expressing the certain desire or anxiety so where can

[13:40]i freely express that in my dreams in your dreams you're free

[13:47]weird and crazy things in our dreams so he says it's the

[13:52]realm where you can express your deep anxieties and desires and no

[13:55]one will tell you this is wrong this is ieave this is

[13:59]shameful don't do that no you could do whatever you want there's

[14:01]absolutely no limits so there's no real true meaning to your dreams

[14:04]but when we come to Islam my dear brothers and sisters are

[14:10]a hadith they tell us no this is not correct and that

[14:12]yes there are certain dreams that don't have a meaning but on

[14:19]the contrary there are many dreams that we see when we sleep

[14:21]which have a meaning so when we come to the hadith the

[14:26]holy prophets and the Imams they divide our dreams into three types

[14:30]they say there's three types of Dreams so we can't generalize and

[14:35]say all dreams don't have a meaning or we can't generalize and

[14:37]say all dreams do have a meaning there's three types the first

[14:41]type of dream that we see are the hadith college Aurora asado

[14:48]or aurora asana according to the hadith these are the true dreams

[14:53]the dreams that excuse me that have a meaning behind it that

[14:56]there is for example a message that allah subhanaw taala is sending

[15:02]to you it could be a message of glad tidings Allah can

[15:04]tell you something about the future or telling you something about your

[15:08]life tell you something about a mystery there could be a mystery

[15:13]in your life that you don't know how to solve Allah Subhanahu

[15:16]WA Ta'ala can show you a dream which has a true meaning

[15:21]behind it and that's why in the Holy Quran Allah says Nahum

[15:28]news the holy prophet he gave that FCR according to one hadith

[15:33]of this verse he said Allah speaking about dreams Allah many times

[15:37]he gives us good News through our dreams so this dream will

[15:41]have an interpretation and in one hadith the Holy Prophet said lana

[15:46]boy what a body there is absolutely no prophesies no prophets after

[15:49]me I am the last prophet and then he said he said

[16:23]wa ta'ala can tell me something a lots of panels that like

[16:27]we mentioned he could send me a warning so that i stopped

[16:29]from doing something haram or he can send me a message of

[16:34]good news or glad tidings or any other information that allah subhanaw

[16:39]taala can give me so this is the first type of dreams

[16:41]that we see out of Sodom and these my dear brothers and

[16:48]sisters these are the dreams that are the prophets of Allah see

[16:51]because the prophets of Allah the messengers of Allah when they see

[16:56]a dream it is revelation from Allah it is Roy Asadullah it's

[16:58]a true dream and that's why you see we have many instances

[17:01]in history and the Quran in the hadith prophets that saw dreams

[17:07]that had a meaning behind it and not just prophets but other

[17:11]individuals for example one of the famous stories is the story of

[17:14]nama root nam root was the tyrant that lived during the time

[17:20]of Ibrahim one day one of his advisers comes to him and

[17:22]he tells him I saw a dream it's a very frightful dream

[17:27]what did you see he tells him I saw that your kingdom

[17:28]will be destroyed at the hands of a young man and he

[17:35]will be born in the future and the hadith tell us that

[17:38]nombreux began to search forever him in the same way that we

[17:44]read about prophet musa how far would go about trying to kill

[17:47]any pregnant mother the same thing happened with he wanted to kill

[17:53]that child so that that prophecy that dream does not come true

[17:56]but he couldn't of course at the end and same thing like

[19:35]drought and famine and then there were two people in that cell

[19:37]with him and each one saw a dream one of them he

[19:41]told him that you will be crucified the other he told them

[19:45]you'll be freed and all of that did indeed happen and likewise

[19:47]when we come to our holy prophet muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam

[19:52]Muhammad Ali member we find that he did see certain dreams and

[20:02]those dreams came true and one of the examples that was that

[20:07]one day he saw that monkeys they were climbing his member is

[20:19]and they were playing with it he saw a dream and he

[21:04]is the first type of Dreams auroria Asadullah the true dreams the

[21:10]second type of dream via hadith of Ahlul Bayt tell us they

[21:17]call it an alum and alum according to the hadith are the

[21:20]nightmares the ones where you're frightened where you see for example someone

[21:25]bothering you you're imprisoned somewhere or you're running apps for your life

[21:30]or you're in a plane and the plane is about to crash

[21:34]or you get into a car crash or for example you go

[21:37]to the airport and you miss your flight something bad happens in

[21:40]your dream these according to the hadith are called Allah Allah and

[21:44]this second type of dreams the hadith tell us that they are

[21:47]the work of whom Allah know the first one we said Allah

[21:53]directly it's a direct link between Allah and that servant the alam

[21:56]the nightmares the hadith tell us they are from the work of

[22:01]the devil's Allah has given the devil's the shayateen authority and the

[22:14]us this is the second type of dream and the third type

[22:17]of dream according to the hadith are the Allahu Allah of half

[22:34]exam you see when you have an exam and you're very stressed

[22:46]whatever or if you think about someone or sometimes if you eat

[22:51]certain foods you may see certain dreams and these dreams of that

[22:55]Allah they have no meaning they're just for you to enjoy it

[23:02]and there's no interpretation to it so this is the first point

[23:04]my dear brothers and sisters that there are three types of dreams

[23:06]of the true dreams the nightmares and the dreams that are nonsense

[23:11]now there are a few points here I'll mention some of them

[23:13]tonight and I'll continue insha'Allah with the others tomorrow point number one

[23:17]my dear brothers and sisters the hadith of Imam Sadiq alehissalaam he

[23:21]tells one of his companions almo father lebanon he tells them after

[23:25]he tells him there's three types of dreams and he speaks about

[23:29]them he tells him and known that most of the dreams that

[23:35]average ordinary human beings like us see are from the third category

[23:41]they're nonsense and that the Imam is telling us that it is

[23:44]very rare for us to see a true dream or what yeah

[23:49]Saad unfortunately many individuals I have seen every night they see a

[23:53]dream they think it's revelation from Allah they have to go door

[23:57]to door scholar to scholar Mawlana to Mawlana Mawlana says 'no i

[24:01]saw this dream i was on a boat and then it fell

[24:04]and then whatever what's the interpretation will i become rich or something

[24:07]bad happened to me is there someone that has done magic against

[24:12]me and all this nonsense and usually when i'm asked by those

[24:14]people first of all right away i tell them i do not

[24:16]interpret dreams why I'll mention that tomorrow and number two I the

[24:21]first question just like when you go to a doctor he asks

[24:23]you many questions I asked them what did you eat last night

[24:25]did you eat a bean burrito did you eat shawarma did you

[24:30]eat for example isolation what did you eat so the food that

[24:33]they ate could have had an effect on them so we have

[24:37]to be we're brothers and sisters that most of the dreams I

[24:39]would say according to my opinion my understanding may be 90 to

[24:45]95 percent or even I would say up to 98 or 99

[24:49]percent of the dreams we see are not really Assad Allah isn't

[24:51]trying to tell you anything trust me no earthquake will happen that

[24:53]you can stop no one is about to die that Allah wants

[24:57]you to stop through your dreams so we shouldn't worry too much

[25:00]about our dreams about what we see and unfortunately in most communities

[25:03]I find the sisters unfortunately they're very concerned about their dreams and

[25:08]they always want interpretations to every gym that they see the Imam

[25:11]says this is the incorrect outlook toward dream most of your dreams

[25:14]do not have a meaning and it's very rare maybe once a

[25:20]year once every few years you might have the honour to see

[25:24]the Imam or one of the US hub of the Imams or

[25:25]see a dream that has a true meaning and the hadith tell

[25:30]us that if you do see a true dream usually it happens

[25:35]you do a book before that you reach certain before we never

[25:37]do these things so we shouldn't expect to see a true though

[25:41]a true dream and these dreams they happen the true dreams that

[25:44]Heidi tell us the last the third portion of the night so

[25:46]if you divide the night at 3 portions the last portion this

[25:49]is when it happens but that doesn't mean everything that happens and

[25:52]the third portion is a true you know if it does happen

[25:56]then there so we should not be too concerned about our dreams

[26:01]on their real life's when they're awake they put too much concentration

[26:07]on their dreams so this is the wrong outset and outlook so

[26:09]this is the first point that we have to keep in mind

[26:13]the second point that we have to and before I go there

[26:15]another point I remember it even if you see a dream I

[26:18]asked you let's say you see in your dream tonight you come

[27:14]or your watch or anything your jewelry and then you don't know

[27:20]who it is you sleep that night and while you're sleeping and

[27:27]man telling you how much stole it that your neighbors stole it

[27:30]can you go next day and accuse your neighbour of stealing it

[27:32]of course not because dreams have absolutely no legal weight so they

[27:38]you can use it in a court system you can't use it

[27:40]to for example try someone you can't even use dreams to build

[27:43]assumptions or for example suspicion about someone oh I saw in my

[27:49]dream for lon he's an evil person that's why I'm not gonna

[27:51]deal with him anymore that's why I'm gonna have a negative you

[27:55]know image of it this is wrong this is Haram you're using

[27:57]dreams which have absolutely no legal weight against us individual so we

[28:04]can never use our dreams in order to you know in real

[28:10]life in basically using it's in a legal way let's say or

[28:13]using it's in a way in which I act upon my dream

[28:18]this is wrong and that's why in our Akita brothers and sisters
