[8:31]surah salimulk kindly join me in reciting surah fatiha for marhum abdul
[22:22]jafar and kol marhumin al fatiha well may you kindly join me
[22:38]recite in welcoming sheikh mujahid ali sharif to the member with the
[22:42]recitation of three loud salawat allah muhammad wa ali muhammad we have
[26:08]gathered here this afternoon for the of marhum abdul hamid by jaffa
[26:21]in 1999 marhum mullah azra had sent me to wessex to see
[26:33]the community and for the community to see me and during that
[26:39]trip i remember that one of the people we visited together with
[26:47]yasin rahim was marhum abdulbay jaffa i must say that it was
[26:55]a very pleasant meeting and the hospitality that was accorded to me
[27:01]at the time was excellent after that when we were in the
[27:08]old al mahdi center in wekham we had the opportunity of meeting
[27:18]marhum time and again and we would also spend time discussing and
[27:23]talking about random things for those in our jamad no marhum abdulbay
[27:32]jafar they will vouch that he was indeed a very generous person
[27:39]and he financially contributed a lot to the causes and projects of
[27:47]this jamat we pray to allah to grant with and to elevate
[28:00]his status in barazaq placing his noble soul in the proximity of
[28:06]the choices servants of allah the jahadah massimin alaihi musalam mumineen death
[28:15]is meaning it is a certain thing to happen it is something
[28:26]which we are all waiting for and it is such a reality
[28:33]that it is possible for a person to deny the existence of
[28:41]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala it is possible for a person to deny
[28:48]the existence of the angels to deny and reject the prophets and
[28:55]the imams who are sent for our guidance to deny and reject
[29:01]the divinely books that were revealed for the guidance of mankind but
[29:08]death is one such a reality which nobody can deny even fir'aun
[29:15]who claimed to be god quran says that he said indeed i
[29:23]am your greatest lord it is said about him that he also
[29:29]had prepared a place for himself for his burial in one of
[29:35]the pyramids just like the other pharaohs why because he too knew
[29:42]that one day he will have to die and he will be
[29:45]required to be buried so this is the reality of mawdah this
[29:51]is the reality of death we will find that in the holy
[29:56]quran in numerous places we have been informed and we have also
[30:03]been forewarned about death for example in surah al uman allah subhanahu
[30:13]wa ta'ala says there is not a single soul who knows that
[30:25]in which land he will die indeed it is allah who is
[30:34]all knowing and all aware one of my maternal uncles lived in
[30:43]new york for thirty thirty five years of his life and then
[30:50]suddenly decided that he in the month of ramadan wanted to go
[30:55]and spend the days in dar eslam also to meet his brothers
[31:01]and friends relatives visit the graveyard he came to dar es salaam
[31:08]on the day of eid ul fitr he was also given the
[31:13]opportunity of reciting dua in udubah immediately after reciting dua in that
[31:20]masjid in front of everybody he collapsed and passed away he died
[31:26]and he was buried in dar eslam at a house in new
[31:31]york allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says no soul knows in which land
[31:36]he will be buried we have many of our community members from
[31:43]east africa who normally go for medical treatment to india to mumbai
[31:50]mainly how many of them have gone for treatment but never returned
[31:56]i was in india a couple of years ago i visited the
[32:00]cemetery i went to the graveyard and when i saw their graves
[32:06]the plaques which were placed over their graves i was surprised said
[32:11]that these are the people i knew them some of them are
[32:14]from dar eslam some of them are from mombasa nobody knows where
[32:19]he will be buried and the same thing goes for some of
[32:23]our people who have been for hajj who have been for umrah
[32:27]who have been for ziyarat whether to iraq or iran passed away
[32:32]and they are buried there this is the reality there is no
[32:40]soul who knows in which land he will be buried so this
[32:47]is one of those ayats of the holy quran verses of the
[32:50]holy quran in which we have been informed about the reality of
[32:55]death in surah al an kabood which is the twenty ninth chapter
[32:59]of the holy quran normally we recite this surah on the twenty
[33:04]third night of mahi ramadan in this surah we find that allah
[33:11]subhanahu wa ta'ala says every soul shall be made to taste death
[33:25]and then they will be made to return to us the term
[33:33]that has been used in the holy quran is taste is it
[33:38]a food or is it a kind of drink that has taste
[33:42]and that if we consume it we will like it we will
[33:45]enjoy it there is a beautiful tradition of in which he says
[34:04]by him who owns my soul there is not a single servant
[34:11]who exits from this world except he experiences pain in every vein
[34:18]of his body this is a hadith he experiences pain this is
[34:25]the taste which allah is talking about every nafs will be made
[34:35]to taste death and then the verse which i recited in the
[34:40]beginning of our discourse verse 19 of surah qa'af thirty first chapter
[34:44]of the holy quran allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says and is going
[34:53]to come in truth that is the condition you are trying to
[35:00]run away from the plural of which is the term which we
[35:09]normally use or is in reference to that time which is just
[35:16]before death when a person is on his deathbed but has not
[35:20]passed away as yet that period is known as sakratul maut and
[35:28]what does sakara itself mean or itself mean if you refer to
[35:34]what the have said that different interpretations that have been given in
[35:38]the translations of the holy quran and the agony of death will
[35:43]come in truth or the days of death will come in truth
[35:49]or the stupor of death will come in truth that condition in
[35:55]which a person is between consciousness and unconsciousness this is known as
[36:02]saccharatuma we think that the person is unconscious no his conscious or
[36:07]her conscious level is beyond our conscious level at that time why
[36:14]because it is at that time the entire life passes before the
[36:19]dying person like a flesh from the beginning till the end and
[36:23]it is now proven by the scientists also that this is true
[36:27]that before a person dies he sees his entire life before him
[36:31]what he did from the beginning till the end and it is
[36:36]at that time he sees the deeds which he had performed in
[36:40]this life and what awaits him in the afterlife he is now
[36:44]witnessing at that moment and it is during this time quran is
[36:51]warning us that shaitan comes and tries to lure him lure him
[36:57]towards kafir towards disbelief and of course he encounters the angel of
[37:03]death at that time and when the soul reaches the throat that
[37:15]is the time when you are looking on so we'll find my
[37:21]brothers and sisters there are numerous verses in the holy quran in
[37:25]which we have informed and also forewarned about the reality of death
[37:31]that awaits us it is a reality nobody can deny nobody can
[37:37]reject the question that comes to mind is that when death is
[37:44]a reality we know that it is certain and it is going
[37:49]to happen then why is it that we fear death fear of
[37:55]death is common and everyone everyone fears death there's no doubt about
[38:01]it why do we fear there are people who don't only fear
[38:04]death they also fear the dead people they also fear the dead
[38:10]people are afraid of entering rosh al khanna you see by their
[38:15]own you see if you tell somebody that there is something in
[38:18]there could you go in and bring there are some people who
[38:21]say please please don't tell me to go are afraid of hosul
[38:25]khanna although there's nothing in there at the moment or they are
[38:28]afraid of dead people i remember in 1993 i had come to
[38:34]to stenmore to recite majlis of muharram from nairobi and in those
[38:40]days they used to accommodate the zakir there in stenmore and there
[38:47]was a flat upstairs and down until today there is this ghosal
[38:50]khanna and once the zakir after exciting madness has gone inside they
[38:55]would lock you from down and i had some very good friends
[38:59]who would come and sit with me for a while before the
[39:01]lock the doors were locked and they would actually tell me there
[39:05]are two dead bodies down there who will be buried tomorrow as
[39:09]if to generate that fear in me i said if we want
[39:11]to be afraid we should be afraid of the living people and
[39:15]not the dead people what are the dead people going to do
[39:18]to us they are muhtaj if you want to be afraid afraid
[39:22]of the people who can walk and talk yeah these are the
[39:25]people who can actually harm you so this all happens because we
[39:30]have watched too much of dracula movies vampire movies you see and
[39:36]we think that the dead is going to come to life and
[39:38]attack us and all those nonsense which we believe in but the
[39:42]reality is that nobody wants to die and we fear death and
[39:47]not only death we don't even want anybody to talk about death
[39:51]i remember when i first came to wessex as a resident alum
[39:55]i had series of lectures on death a time came when some
[39:59]mominin actually said that at least talk about life now you have
[40:02]talked about death so much so i gave them a break for
[40:05]about a year and then i started series on the day of
[40:08]judgment so why do we fear death we find that our ulama
[40:13]have given us many reasons for this as to why we fear
[40:20]death one is because of our attachment with this material life and
[40:29]death is something that is going to separate us from this life
[40:34]that is why we fear death our attachment man by nature is
[40:43]easily attracted towards this material life of the world and gets attached
[40:51]to the things of this life he wants the best of everything
[40:55]he wants to possess wealth he wants to possess a good house
[41:01]for himself he wants to wear the best of garments which are
[41:07]available in the market he wants to have the best of transportation
[41:12]for himself and the best of all facilities for his self comfort
[41:18]in this life all these demonstrates that man is inclined and attracted
[41:26]towards this material world and in addition to this his relation with
[41:33]his family with his children with his friends all these things are
[41:41]such that he cannot live without them and that is why we
[41:45]will find that even for a short period of time when man
[41:50]is separated from all these things how depressed he becomes isn't it
[41:55]true like for example if he goes on a trouble leaving his
[41:58]family behind he becomes depressed i'm a regular traveler i travel four
[42:02]or five times a year and most of the time i'm traveling
[42:05]alone i should be used to traveling but every time i am
[42:10]preparing myself to travel the first the last two three days i'm
[42:15]at unease i feel a little bit depressed when i think that
[42:19]i'll be leaving my family i'll be leaving my children i'll be
[42:22]leaving my grandchildren behind so even for the shortest period of time
[42:27]when man is leaving all these things behind he feels feels uneasy
[42:33]he feels depressed death is something that is going to separate him
[42:37]permanently then why shouldn't he fear death but there are two things
[42:44]i would like to talk about this attachment with this world which
[42:48]we need as believers to understand one is that islam is first
[42:56]of all islam is is not telling us that you should not
[43:00]possess anything don't get me wrongly islam is not saying that you
[43:03]should not work hard and make money for yourself and that you
[43:07]should not live in a good house or drive a good car
[43:10]or wear good clothes this is not what islam is telling us
[43:14]or to have relationship with our relatives or family as for the
[43:21]namaads the bounties of allah proclaim it allah's saying use them the
[43:25]bounties have been given to them so that you use them and
[43:29]thank allah for those bounties but be careful do not overly attach
[43:37]yourself to these things such that they make you forget allah and
[43:45]deviate you from your responsibilities towards him this is what islam is
[43:49]telling us this worldly life is nothing but the ways of delusion
[44:00]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says all you who believe all you who
[44:10]have brought faith who have brought acquired them in a lawful manner
[44:27]or enjoy the bounties of allah but do not over attach yourselves
[44:32]such that you forget your responsibilities towards allah why because there are
[44:37]two things which i would like to mention one is that the
[44:41]attachment too much attachment with this material world taints our souls with
[44:56]lowly traits a very important point which i would like to share
[45:03]with you in his book the 40 traditions is mentioning this he
[45:17]says man has man's creation consists of two components now listen to
[45:24]this carefully man's creation comprises of two components one is known as
[45:34]and the other one is known as one is what we say
[45:40]corporeal and the other one is incorporeal one is earthly and the
[45:48]other one is angelic simply put body and soul these are the
[45:55]two components body and soul one is earthly we have been created
[46:04]from this earth and the other one is angelic soul and that
[46:10]is why allah is telling his prophet in the holy quran yes
[46:13]they are questioning you about soul tell them that it is the
[46:20]affair of my lord it is something which you will not be
[46:23]able to absorb something which you will not be able to understand
[46:28]so these are the two components in men the thing is that
[46:33]the traits of both of these components are different the earthly component
[46:41]has got lowly traits and when we talk about lowly traits lowly
[46:46]attributes it refers to the common diseases which we see within ourselves
[46:53]like that of greed of hunger of lies of killing of slandering
[46:59]and all those other things these are all lowly traits and the
[47:10]malakutic component has got a divinely traits in itself therefore we will
[47:18]find that these two components within ourselves are always in tussle against
[47:23]each other one component trying to pull the other one towards it
[47:29]so the earthly component the body will try to pull the soul
[47:33]towards itself and if it is able to subdue the angelic component
[47:40]that is the roar then that soul is tainted with the lowly
[47:47]attributes and lowly traits but if the earthly component surrenders itself to
[47:56]the angelic component that is the rule then such a person gets
[48:00]divine attributes in him he gets divine traits in him earthly components
[48:09]component which is dead within ourselves a person makes makes a person
[48:14]monstrous monstrous that is why my brothers and sisters when we are
[48:18]talking about pain at the time of death why do we have
[48:22]to experience pain particularly for the believers it has been mentioned the
[48:26]believers are going to experience pain don't talk about disbelievers the believers
[48:30]those who proclaimed and muhammadun rasulullah they are going to go through
[48:36]this why this is the reason you see because the soul has
[48:40]been tainted with sins the soul has been tainted with the earthly
[48:45]traits and that has to be separated from the soul that has
[48:49]to go and submit itself before its master that is when you
[48:56]have say a wound on your body say a boil i'm not
[49:01]talking about those small small boils but there are sometimes people who
[49:04]experience big boils on their body which are quite painful aren't they
[49:09]if they are not treated with antibiotics if they cannot be treated
[49:13]by antibiotics then you have to have them cut from your body
[49:18]isn't it it's a painful experience but once it is cut you
[49:22]will find that that pain eases and a person now is comfortable
[49:26]and relaxes similarly the soul the sins which we commit and we
[49:33]taint the soul with the earthly traits with the lowly traits that
[49:39]has to be separated hands that pain at the time of death
[49:43]and in the grave has been i do not want to go
[49:46]into details because this is something which is perhaps beyond people's comprehension
[49:51]but this is the reality so if we want to attach ourselves
[49:57]to this world we should understand that the traits that is going
[50:02]to come into us the soul is going to become monstrous we
[50:06]need to submit ourselves to the angelic component within ourselves so that
[50:12]we are able to acquire divine traits within ourselves this is one
[50:17]thing and the other thing about attachment with this world is that
[50:22]the end result is always regret there's always regret and there are
[50:27]a lot of things which we can discuss whatever thing you are
[50:31]attached with that is the thing shaitan is going to use to
[50:35]deviate you from the path of allah during the last moments of
[50:39]your life we have been warned in the holy quran this has
[50:42]been mentioned and in the traditions also has been mentioned whatever thing
[50:46]however big or small that may be if you are attached with
[50:49]your children the children will be used by shaitan if you are
[50:52]attached to it you wanna watch which you are wearing that will
[50:55]be used if you are attached overly attached to your house then
[51:01]you have that obsession in you you know that is going to
[51:04]be used and that is why when we look at the of
[51:08]our our great scholars we will find that at the time when
[51:12]they were nearing their death and they knew that they are passing
[51:15]away they made sure that those things they were attached with are
[51:18]kept away was attached to his grandson but you see him saying
[51:25]to his family that this particular grandson i'm very much attached to
[51:28]him he should not be in the room he should not be
[51:31]in the room when i'm dying he should be another scholar it
[51:35]is said that he had authored many books one of the books
[51:39]was close to his heart his own work and it was very
[51:43]dear that book and he said that this is the book which
[51:47]has to be removed from my library because i do not want
[51:50]it to cause trouble to me how it happens i have not
[51:54]yet experienced that so i cannot share with you but this is
[51:57]the reality one reason why we fear death is overly attachment with
[52:02]this world the other reason is death comes suddenly death we have
[52:10]not been told when are we going to die and where it
[52:15]comes suddenly and when their appointed time comes they will not be
[52:25]delivered not an hour before or an hour after you can't tell
[52:29]malakul mutt i'm busy you come after an hour no it's not
[52:33]going to the time has not been disclosed to us when shall
[52:37]we be taken but in quran in 11 places the term has
[52:44]been used which means suddenly a person will not realize and he
[52:49]will go and that is why we are afraid now if we
[52:53]were told when we are going to die then there would be
[52:57]two kinds of people amongst us there would be those who would
[53:01]die before their time in worry and then there would be those
[53:06]who would say oh so i'm going to live for sixty years
[53:09]so fifty nine years let me enjoy the last years i will
[53:12]sit on the musa allah and do allah and isn't it allah
[53:16]has not you see there are certain things which allah has talked
[53:21]about but he has not not disclosed their information accurately he has
[53:33]talked about them but he has not provided accuracy about those things
[53:38]like what like shabbat qadr laylatul qadr it is in the month
[53:42]of ramadan it is the night of it is the night when
[53:46]the quran was revealed the best night a night which is better
[53:50]than thousand nights yeah but when exactly is nobody knows a person
[53:55]comes to imam jafar sadiq and says to him you should be
[54:06]knowing when is qadr is you tell me when is laylatul qadr
[54:10]and imam indicated to him there are numerous such traditions indicated to
[54:16]him it is either twenty first or twenty third he said no
[54:19]no no no you tell me the exact night of laylatul qadr
[54:23]imam was displeased with him he said what's wrong with you you
[54:27]worship allah you have an opportunity worship on both nights and you
[54:30]will find laylatul qadr worship why has allah not revealed so that
[54:35]we can better ourselves we strive to better ourselves has been mentioned
[54:42]but when it is another thing which allah has said that there
[54:45]is one particular sin one particular after all the sins which are
[54:50]there mentioned in islam one particular which is such that allah will
[54:55]be so displeased with that sin that he is not going to
[54:59]forgive it he's not going to what is that sin nobody knows
[55:06]nobody knows what that sin is out of all the sins there
[55:11]is one sin which displeases him most and he will come what
[55:15]may will not forgive nobody knows although there are some scholars who
[55:19]say this is in reference to a sin which a person commits
[55:25]persistently he commits and then he does and then again repeats and
[55:31]then again and then continues and this is how things carry on
[55:35]this is the sin which allah but at the end they also
[55:39]say allah knows better why allah has hidden that so that we
[55:44]keep ourselves away from all sorts of sins as simple as that
[55:49]we strive to keep ourselves and same thing goes for death allah
[55:54]has not kept the timing so that we as believers are alert
[55:58]and we are not indifferent you know about the timing of death
[56:03]and and about about death and about our responsibilities towards allah subhanahu
[56:08]wa ta'ala and allah is not going to delay or grant respite
[56:17]to any soul when his appointed time comes and allah is aware
[56:23]of everything that you do and we'll find that you see we
[56:29]must have seen that there are people who die with their eyes
[56:34]shut and there are those people who die with their eyes open
[56:37]haven't we seen and those who die with their eyes open normally
[56:43]people come and shut the eyes why why is this happening somebody
[56:48]asked our sixth imam imam sadiq alaihi salaam they said maula why
[56:54]is it that some people die with their eyes closed and there
[56:57]are those who dies die with their eyes open imam said that
[57:01]the one who died with his eye with his eyes open had
[57:06]encountered the angel of death so suddenly that he did not have
[57:11]the time to shut it and as for the person who died
[57:17]with his eyes closed he too encountered the angel of death so
[57:20]suddenly that he did not have time to open his eyes this
[57:24]is there in hadith so death is going to come suddenly and
[57:28]this is one of the worries of people and that is why
[57:31]we fear death that it is going to come and the third
[57:36]reason there are many reasons walama have given but my time is
[57:39]limited i want to finish on time is because we know what
[57:44]we have sent forth towards the afterlife with our hands and we
[57:50]are unsure that the good deeds which we do meet the criteria
[57:54]of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for their acceptance or not and that
[57:58]is why we fear death the jews and the christians used used
[58:05]to claim that they are we are the children of god allah
[58:10]we are the favorites of allah and until today we find that
[58:13]the jews they they still consider themselves to be the chosen people
[58:19]of god yeah i mean it is interesting the way things are
[58:23]happening and with the social media you find the jews you are
[58:27]being interviewed do you believe in god no i don't believe in
[58:30]god i don't believe in the prophets i don't believe in moses
[58:33]i don't believe in torah i don't believe in life after death
[58:36]but do you believe that you are the chosen people of god
[58:39]yes we believe that we are the chosen people i don't know
[58:42]how they how these two contradicting things can come together but this
[58:49]is from there it's not something that has started recently even in
[58:52]the days of the prophet there are jews and christians who used
[58:56]to say this that we are the chosen and people of of
[58:59]of allah allah subhanahu wa ta'ala revealed on his prophet this is
[59:03]in surah juma oh my prophet tell them oh you this is
[59:09]in in address to the jews to the yahud that all jews
[59:13]in if you think that you are the favorites of allah in
[59:24]exclusion of others then desire for death if you are truthful in
[59:29]your claim and then allah says and they will never do that
[59:38]they will never desire for that why because they know what their
[59:42]hands have sent forth and allah is aware of the wrongdoers he
[59:47]knows who the wrongdoers are who are the unjust people the same
[59:51]thing goes for us if we are fearing death is because each
[59:55]and every one of us is aware of himself what kind of
[60:00]mischief and facade we have done in this life with ourselves with
[60:04]our families with our communities with other people in this life aren't
[60:09]we aware are we so blind about our own actions we are
[60:12]aware what we have done what we have said and the good
[60:15]deeds which we have performed in this life we are not sure
[60:20]they meet the criteria of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for the acceptance
[60:24]of those good pains so we are now afraid of death afraid
[60:29]of going before allah subhanahu wa ta'ala one thing which we as
[60:34]believers must always remember is that death after death the journey towards
[60:43]the is going to be to wheel it's going to be very
[60:46]long the journey after death is going to be very very long
[60:54]this is something which quran is talking the hadith is is is
[60:58]is there talking about this let us not take afterlife lightly my
[61:04]brothers and sisters a person comes to rasulullah and he says to
[61:09]him you rasulullah do you grant me permission do you permit me
[61:16]that i should desire death there are some people when they get
[61:21]tired of the difficulties and troubles of this life they ask for
[61:24]death islam does not encourage that islam says don't desire for death
[61:29]consider your life as an opportunity to do more good deeds and
[61:32]seek forgiveness for your sins don't desire for death don't ask allah
[61:37]for death death will come to you eventually but don't desire it
[61:41]this person says can i do you permit me to desire death
[61:45]the holy prophet told him it is something that whether you desire
[61:52]for it or you don't desire for it you fear it or
[61:55]you don't fear you prepare yourself for it or you don't prepare
[61:58]yourself for it it is going to happen it is going to
[62:01]come come and thereafter the prophet of allah said and this is
[62:07]a very long journey very long journey after them the journey of
[62:13]barzakh one of his companions who had become very old and very
[62:32]weak and very frail happened to go to damascus to sham and
[62:37]found himself one day in the court of muawiyah the staunchest enemy
[62:41]of amir al muminin and muawiyah knew that this person is the
[62:46]companion of amir al muminin so he asked him in present of
[62:49]all the people he said that tell me something from amongst the
[62:54]affairs of your master ali muawiyah thought that now this man has
[62:58]become so weak and he is also poor he has come to
[63:03]my court he may be wanting my favor so by asking him
[63:06]there is a probability that he will talk ill about amir al
[63:10]muminin he will talk ill about abi talib but what did this
[63:14]old man do he was so old and so frail he did
[63:18]not have a staff he did not have a stick so he
[63:21]used his sword like a staff like a stick to get up
[63:25]from his place and he addressing mu'aviyah he said o mu'aviyah by
[63:30]allah when the entire world was asleep at night and the skies
[63:37]were carpeted by the stars ali had disassociated himself from everybody everybody
[63:45]i saw ali standing on musallah he was standing on his musallah
[63:50]and he says and he used to tremble like a person who
[63:57]has been bitten by a venomous snake this is how he used
[64:02]to tremble on his and he used to cry sadly and say
[64:09]what ah ah imam would say on that how little is the
[64:20]provision which we have gathered for that journey suffer and how long
[64:27]is that journey that awaits all of us after death let us
[64:32]not take it lightly and then in najjul balagha imam ali one
[64:36]of the things which i've seen is that we think about celebrating
[64:41]a person's life a person who dies this is not in our
[64:44]culture in islamic culture but we have come and lived in a
[64:47]country where this culture is prevalent so we borrow few things here
[64:51]and there and nowadays you will find when a person dies we
[64:54]are celebrating his life you want to celebrate somebody's life recite two
[64:58]rakahatu phrase that is real celebration for him if you are concerned
[65:04]about the person who has died you want him to celebrate or
[65:08]you want to celebrate you recite two rakahat of prayers for him
[65:15]so my brothers and sisters it is important that we we understand
[65:20]these things we need to alert ourselves imam ali says that if
[65:28]you were to if you are to encounter what the dead people
[65:43]have already encountered you would be shocked and you would be jolted
[65:48]you would be jolted what they have seen whatever they have experienced
[65:56]there is a hijab there is a veil which you cannot see
[65:59]through and very soon that veil will be lifted for you as
[66:05]well and you will also see what is awaiting for you in
[66:10]the hereafter that is the reality of death when we talk about
[66:15]these things are really upset with us normally i try and avoid
[66:20]reciting such marjales people want to hear happy happy things but what
[66:26]should i do when i refer to the holy quran and when
[66:29]i refer to the traditions i have to bring out the reality
[66:33]that awaits all of us we need to work on ourselves and
[66:38]we need to change ourselves one way of doing that is by
[66:42]self assessment every night that is encouraged stephen stephen covey if i
[66:51]remember his name correctly in his book seven habits of the highly
[66:57]effective people yes you'll find this online as well in one place
[67:03]he writes that in some traditions referring to christian tradition is that
[67:06]when a person dies people during the funeral they come one after
[67:11]another to talk about that person how that person was yeah or
[67:16]their experiences with the dead person he writes that why do you
[67:21]want to wait until you die that people talk about that when
[67:24]you can yourself assess yourself take a paper sit down and think
[67:30]how you are yourself write down your own attributes and you'll know
[67:33]and you correct yourself if you are wrong in any way self
[67:41]assessment how do we prepare for death is another subject inshallah we
[67:48]submit ourselves to the command of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala do our
[67:52]best to perform the righteous deeds purely for the sake of allah
[67:56]subhanahu wa ta'ala strive to keep ourselves away from disobedience of allah
[68:03]subhanahu wa ta'ala in sins and we have good akhlaq when we
[68:07]live amongst the people such that our family members are happy with
[68:12]us our community members are happy with us the public outside they
[68:16]are also happy with our akhlaq with our character these are some
[68:20]of those ways that have been mentioned through which we can prepare
[68:23]ourselves so death my brothers and sisters is a reality that awaits
[68:28]all of us and these were the two or three reasons i
[68:31]discussed why we fear death the trained their children in such a
[68:42]way that we see that on the eve of ashura when imam
[68:50]gathered all his companions and started mentioning the names of all those
[68:59]who would be martyred on the tenth day on the day of
[69:02]ashura he mentioned the names of all those who are present he
[69:06]mentioned the name of habib he mentioned the name of boraer he
[69:09]mentioned the name of muslim ibn al sajjar he mentioned the name
[69:13]of abbas he mentioned the name of ali yakbar but there was
[69:18]one young boy 13 year old the orphan of our second imam
[69:22]hassan his name was not mentioned in that list as soon as
[69:28]imams stopped mentioning finished mentioning the names of the martyrs this young
[69:34]boy stood up and he said oh uncle how come my name
[69:37]is not there in this list of those who will be murdered
[69:42]imam calls him and asks him or ask him tell me how
[69:46]do you find death and you know what he says it is
[69:51]sweeter than honey this is how the trained their children that they
[69:56]were ever ready to submit themselves before allah respond to the call
[70:02]of lay down their lives for the sake of allah we have
[70:11]seen in our community when people pass away there are always community
[70:17]members there to attend to them they will ensure that the body
[70:21]is taken the body is given a wasal is given kaphan and
[70:25]then the prayer of janaza is recited and then it is taken
[70:29]to the cemetery for burial the relatives the bereaved family members are
[70:36]taken care of isn't it true it happens in our community in
[70:41]fact we'll find in many of our communities there is actually a
[70:44]committee taking care of all these things and this take our my
[70:49]takes our minds towards karbala where we say we see that after
[70:55]the on the day of ashura there were bodies lying on the
[71:00]plain of karbala amongst them was the body of the grandson of
[71:03]rasulullah without without it was there in the arab tradition that whenever
[71:11]a stranger passed away amongst them they would bring the body they
[71:16]would give to the body they would give to the body and
[71:19]once the body was ready a person would go out and call
[71:23]out to other muslims and he would say a stranger has passed
[71:29]away all people gather so that we can pray over him this
[71:33]used to be the arab tradition god knows what happened to the
[71:36]muslim in karbala when hussain was murdered in karbala there was no
[71:42]one even if you did not acknowledge that he was the grandson
[71:45]of rasulullah at least you should have considered him as a muslim
[71:50]and given him a muslim given him and called the people and
[71:54]you would have said i would now like to invite brother arif
[73:36]dattu to the podium to share a few words on behalf of
[73:39]the family respected elders brothers and sisters today we're gathered to honor
[74:10]the memory of abdul jaffa uncle abdul as we fondly called him
[74:19]was the youngest brother of my mom all of you are here
[74:26]today because he made an impact on your lives in one way
[74:30]or another and we all have particular memories about him i will
[74:38]remember him for many things but especially his faith his charity his
[74:45]generosity his ambition his loyalty his love of football and his love
[74:54]of cars like many of his generation ankol abdul originates from uganda
[75:02]following the death of his father my grandfather his family including his
[75:07]mom my grandmother as he was she was commonly known and siblings
[75:12]emigrated in the mid sixties ended up ended up living in bournemouth
[75:17]uncle abdul was still a teenager at the time and finished school
[75:21]here in the uk and got his first job at a local
[75:24]employment agency wind forward a few years and he owned the company
[75:31]and it was a successful employment agency outside of his business uncle
[75:37]abdul also made an impact in his local community in his early
[75:42]years he supported local youth clubs however he will probably be remembered
[75:49]as an ardent supporter of bournemouth football club for which he eventually
[75:53]became chairman and i think this was a proud moment for many
[75:57]many of us in the community because yeah for an outsider to
[76:03]do something like that is quite something but despite all these achievements
[76:09]for me what truly stood out about him was his remarkable resilience
[76:14]when confronting challenges i think his unwavering faith in allah gave him
[76:20]the strength and confidence to persevere and succeed losing him so unexpectedly
[76:27]was truly a shock for all of us however uncle abul will
[76:31]be especially missed by his beloved wife rihanna his son adam and
[76:36]adam's family including his wife basia and their beautiful two daughters he
[76:41]will also be missed by his two surviving sisters auntie rue and
[76:45]my mother we pray for their strength and patience during this difficult
