[0:01][Music] Lantern of the path a collection of Hadith by IM ja
[0:13]part one bondage the roots of conduct have four aspects conduct with
[0:20]Allah conduct with the self conduct with creation meaning people and conduct
[0:25]with this world each of these aspects is based upon seven principles
[0:29]just as there are seven principles of conduct with Allah giving him
[0:34]his due keeping his limits being thankful for his gift being content
[0:41]with his decree being patient with his trials glorifying his sanctity and
[0:46]yearning for him the seven principles of conduct with the self are
[0:51]fear striving enduring harm spiritual discipline seeking truthfulness and sincerity withdrawing the
[0:58]self from what it loves and binding it in poverty the seven
[1:05]principles of conduct with creation are forbearance forgiveness humility generosity compassion Good
[1:14]Counsel Justice and fairness the seven principles of conduct with this world
[1:19]are being content with what is at hand preferring what is available
[1:23]to what is not abandoning the Quest for the elusive hating overabundance
[1:29]choosing abstinence knowing the evils of this world and abandoning any desire
[1:34]for it and negating its dominance when all these qualities are found
[1:39]in one person he's then one of Allah's Elite one of his
[1:43]close bondsmen and Friends aah more on bondage bondage is an Essence
[1:50]the inner nature of which is lordship rubia whatever is missing in
[1:55]bondage is found in lordship and whatever is veiled from lordship is
[1:58]found in bondage as Allah said we will soon show them our
[2:03]signs in the universe and in their own Souls until it will
[2:06]become clear to them that it is the truth is it not
[2:11]sufficient as regards to your Lord that he is a witness over
[2:14]all things this means he exists both in your absence and in
[2:19]your presence bondage means ridding oneself of everything and the way to
[2:24]obtain this is to deny the self what it desires and to
[2:25]make it bear what it dislikes the key to this is abandoning
[2:32]rest loving seclusion and following the path of recognition of the need
[2:37]for Allah the holy prophet sallallah Al said worship Allah as if
[2:41]you see him even if you do not see him he sees
[2:46]you the letters of the Arabic word for bondsmen AB are three
[2:51]and the is one's knowledge of Allah the ba is one's distance
[3:00]bound from the other than him and the D is one's nearness
[3:03]to Allah with the Restriction of neither contingent qualities nor Veil the
[3:09]principles of conduct have four aspects as we mentioned at the beginning
[3:13]of the first chapter on lowering the Gaze there is nothing more
[3:16]gainful than lowering one's gaze for the sight is not lowered from
[3:20]things which Allah has forbidden unless the witnessing of majesty and Glory
[3:27]has already come to the heart the commander of the faithful Alam
[3:30]was asked what could help in lowering one's gaze he said submission
[3:34]to the power of him who was aware of your secret the
[3:39]eye is the Spy of the hearts and the messenger of the
[3:42]intellect therefore lower your gaze from whatever is not appropriate to your
[3:46]faith from whatever your heart dislikes and from whatever your intellect finds
[3:51]repugnant the holy prophet sallallah said lower your eyes and you will
[3:57]see wonders Allah said say to to the believing men that they
[4:02]cast down their looks and guard their private parts isaam said to
[4:08]his disciples be aware of looking at forbidden things for that is
[4:12]the seed of desire and leads to deviant Behavior y said I
[4:18]would prefer death to a glance which is unnecessary Abdullah Bin Mas
[4:23]said to a man who had visited a woman while she was
[4:26]Ill it would have been better for you to lose your eyes
[4:30]than to have visited your sick person whenever the eye looks at
[4:34]something forbidden a knot of Desire is tied in the person's heart
[4:37]and that knot will only be untied by one of two conditions
[4:42]either by weeping out of grief and regret and true repentance or
[4:46]by taking possession of what one desired and looked at and if
[4:51]a person takes possession unjustly without repentance then that will take him
[4:57]to the fire as for the one who repents of it with
[4:59]grief and regret his Abode is the garden and his Destiny is
[5:05]Allah's favor on walking if you're intelligent then you should be a
[5:08]firm resolution and sincere intention before you set out for any place
[5:12]for surely the self's nature is to overstep the bounds and encroach
[5:16]on the Forbidden you should reflect when you walk and take note
[5:21]of the wonders of Allah's work wherever you go do not be
[5:23]mocking or strut when you walk Allah said do not go about
[5:29]in the land exalting over much lower your gaze from whatever is
[5:33]inappropriate to Faith and remember Allah frequently there's a tradition which says
[5:39]that those places where and in connection with which Allah is mentioned
[5:43]will testify to that before Allah on the day of judgment and
[5:48]we'll ask forgiveness for those people so that Allah will let them
[5:51]enter the garden do not speak excessively with people along the way
[5:55]for that is Bad Manners most of the roads are the traps
[6:00]and markets of of Satan so do not feel safe from his
[6:02]tricks make your coming and your going in obedience to Allah striving
[6:07]for his pleasure for all your movements will be recorded in your
[6:11]book as Allah said on the day when their tongues and their
[6:13]hands and their feet shall bear witness against them regarding what they
[6:19]did we have made every man's actions to cling to his neck
[6:23]un knowledge knowledge is the basis of every Sublime State and the
[6:26]culmination of every High station that is why the holy prophet Sall
[6:32]Al said it is the duty of every Muslim man and woman
[6:35]to seek knowledge that is the knowledge of precaution tawa and certainty
[6:41]Imam aliam said seek knowledge though it be in China meaning the
[6:46]knowledge of nosis of the self in it is contained knowledge of
[6:52]the Lord the holy prophet sallallah alai said whoever knows his own
[6:57]self knows his Lord moreover you should acquire that knowledge without which
[7:02]no action is correct and that is sincerity we seek Refuge with
[7:06]Allah from knowledge which has no benefit that is from knowledge which
[7:10]is contrary to actions performed with sincerity know that a small amount
[7:14]of knowledge requires a great deal of action because knowledge of the
[7:21]hour requires the person who has such knowledge to act accordingly during
[7:27]his entire life isaam said I saw a stone on which was
[7:30]written turn me over so I turned it over written on the
[7:35]other side was whoever does not act by what he knows will
[7:38]be doomed by seeking what he does not know and his own
[7:43]knowledge will be turned against him Allah revealed to David the least
[7:45]that I shall do to someone with knowledge who does not act
[7:48]by his knowledge is worse than 70 inner punishments which result in
[7:54]my removing from his heart the sweetness of my remembrance there is
[7:58]no way to Allah except via knowledge and knowledge is the adornment
[8:02]of man in this world and the next his driver to paradise
[8:07]and by means of it he attains Allah's contentment with him he
[8:12]who truly knows is the one in whom sound actions pure supplications
[8:16]truthfulness and precautions speak out not his tongue his debates his comparisons
[8:23]assertions or claims in times other than these those who sought knowledge
[8:28]were those who had intellect piety wisdom modesty and caution but nowadays
[8:33]we see that those who seek it do not have any of
[8:38]these qualities the man of knowledge needs intellect kindness compassion Good Counsel
[8:43]forbearance patience contentment and generosity while anyone wishing to learn needs a
[8:50]desire for knowledge will devotion of his time and energy piety caution
[8:55]memory and resolution giving judgment giving judgment is is not permissible for
[9:00]someone who has not been endowed by Allah with the qualities of
[9:04]inner Purity sincerity and both his hidden invisible actions and a proof
[9:09]from his Lord in every state this is because whoever has judged
[9:15]has decreed and decree is only valid by the permission of Allah
[9:18]and by his proof whoever is liberal in his judgment without having
[9:23]made a proper examination is ignorant and will be taken to task
[9:26]for his ignorance and will be burdened with his judgment as the
[9:32]tradition indicates knowledge is a light which Allah casts Into the Heart
[9:37]of whomsoever he Wills the holy prophet sallallah alai said whosoever is
[9:41]boldest among you in judging is also the most insolent to Allah
[9:45]does not the judge know that he is the one who has
[9:50]come between Allah and his bondsmen and that he is wavering between
[9:53]the garden and the fire sufyan had said how can anyone else
[9:58]benefit from from my knowledge if I have denied myself its benefit
[10:04]it is inappropriate for anyone to judge on what is permissible and
[10:09]what is forbidden among creation except for one who causes the people
[10:13]of his time Village and his City to follow the truth through
[10:16]obedience to the holy prophet sallallah alai and who recognizes what is
[10:21]applicable of his judgment the holy prophet sallallah alai said it is
[10:26]because giving judgment is such a tremendous affair in which there is
[10:32]no place for hopefully perhaps or maybe the commander of the faithful
[10:35]said to a judge do you know the difference between those verses
[10:41]of the Quran which abrogate and those which are abrogated no do
[10:44]you have a command of the intentions of Allah in The Parables
[10:47]of the Quran no then you have perished and caused others to
[10:54]perish the commander of the faithful peace be upon Him replied a
[10:57]judge needs to know the various meaning meanings of the Quran the
[11:01]truth of the prophetic way the inward indications courtesies consensus and disagreements
[11:08]and to be familiar with the basis of what they agree upon
[11:10]and disagree about then he must have acute discrimination sound action wisdom
[11:16]and precaution if he has these things then let him judge enjoining
[11:23]what is good and forbidding what is evil Whoever has not thrown
[11:26]off his anxieties been purified of the evils of his self and
[11:29]its appetites defeated Satan and entered under the guardianship of Allah and
[11:36]the security of his protection cannot properly enjoin what is good and
[11:41]forbid what is evil and since he has not attained these aforementioned
[11:45]qualities whatever Affair he tackles in attempting to enjoin what is good
[11:50]and forbid what is evil will be a proof against him and
[11:52]people will not benefit from it Allah said what do you enjoin
[11:57]men to be good and neglect your own Souls in 2:44 anyone
[12:02]who does that is called upon thus oh traitor do you demand
[12:07]from my creation that which you have rejected for yourself and have
[12:11]slackened the Reigns in this regard upon yourself it is related that
[12:16]asked the messenger of Allah s about this verse Oh you who
[12:25]believe take care of your souls he who s cannot hurt you
[12:27]when you are on the right way chap 5: 105 the messenger
[12:34]of Allah sallai said enjoy what is good and forbid what is
[12:38]evil and be forbearing in whatever afflicts you until such time when
[12:42]you see meanness obeyed and passions followed and when everyone will have
[12:47]conceit about their own opinion then you should concern yourself only with
[12:52]yourself and ignore the Affairs of the Common People a person who
[12:57]enjoys what is good needs to be knowledgeable about what is is
[13:00]permissible and what is forbidden he must be free from his personal
[13:03]inclinations regarding what he enjoins and forbids Give Good Counsel to people
[13:08]be merciful and compassionate to them and call them with gentleness in
[13:15]a very clear manner while recognizing their different characters so that he
[13:18]can put each in his proper place he must see the intrigues
[13:23]of the self and the minations of Satan he must be patient
[13:28]in whatever befalls him and must not seek compensation from people for
[13:32]that which he instructs them in nor complain about them he should
[13:36]not make use of vehement or passion he should not become angry
[13:39]for his own sake he should make his intention purely for Allah
[13:44]and seek his help and desire him but if people oppose him
[13:47]and are harsh to him he must be patient and if they
[13:52]agree with him and accept his verdict he must be thankful in
[13:55]trusting his affair to Allah and looking to his own faults how
[14:00]the the men of knowledge are ruined caution and fear are the
[14:04]legacy of knowledge and its measure knowledge is the ray of nosis
[14:09]in the heart of belief whoever is denied caution is not a
[14:12]man of knowledge even if he can split hairs in dealing with
[14:15]obscure items of knowledge Allah said only those of his servants who
[14:21]are possessed of knowledge fear Allah in chapter 35: 28 men of
[14:26]knowledge are ruined by eight things greed and miserliness showing off in
[14:33]partisanship love of Praise delving into things whose reality they cannot reach
[14:38]affectation by taking excessive pains to beautify their speech with Superfluous Expressions
[14:45]lack of modesty before Allah boastfulness and not acting upon what they
[14:50]know isaam said the most wretched of all people is he who
[14:53]is known for his knowledge not for his actions the holy prophet
[14:56]sallallah alai said Do not sit with every presumptuous caller who summons
[15:02]you from certainty to doubt from sincerity to showing off from humility
[15:07]to Pride from Good Counsel to enmity and from abstinence to desire
[15:13]draw near to the person with knowledge who summons you from Pride
[15:17]to humility from showing off to sincerity from doubt to certainty from
[15:22]desire to abstinance from enmity to Good Counsel none are fit to
[15:28]preach to Creation except that person who has gone beyond these evils
[15:32]by his truthfulness he sees the faults of speech and knows what
[15:35]is sound from what is unsound the defectiveness of thoughts and The
[15:39]Temptations of the self and his fancies aliam said be like the
[15:47]kind compassionate Doctor Who places the remedy where it will be of
[15:52]benefit they asked Isa alisam with whom shall we sit oh Spirit
[15:55]of Allah with one the sight of whom reminds you of Allah
[15:59]he repli lied and whose speech increases you in knowledge and whose
[16:03]actions make you desire the next World guarding oneself whoever guards his
[16:09]heart from heedlessness protects his from appetites and guards his intellect from
[16:14]ignorance will be admitted into the company of the Vigilant then he
[16:18]who guards his knowledge from fancies his faith from Innovation and his
[16:22]property from The Forbidden is among the righteous the messenger of Allah
[16:27]Sall alai said it is a Duty for every Muslim man and
[16:33]woman to seek knowledge and that is knowledge of the self therefore
[16:36]it is necessary for the self to be in all states either
[16:39]expressing his gratitude or profer his excuse for lack of gratitude if
[16:45]this is acceptable to Allah it is a favor upon him and
[16:48]if not it is Justice upon him for every self it is
[16:53]necessary to work that it may succeed in its acts of obedience
[16:56]and for its protection its efforts tostain stain from doing harm the
[17:00]basis of all this is recognition of total need and dependence on
[17:07]Allah caution and obedience the key to it is in delegating your
[17:10]Affair to Allah cutting off expectation by always remembering death and seeing
[17:15]that you are standing in the presence of the allc compelling this
[17:19]gives you rest from confinement rescue from the enemy and peace for
[17:24]the self the means to sincerity and obedience is Harmony and the
[17:28]root of that rests upon considering life as being only as long
[17:32]as a day the messenger of Allah Sall said this W lasts
[17:38]but an hour so spend it in obedience to Allah the door
[17:41]to all of this is always to withdraw from the World by
[17:45]means of constant reflection the means to this is withdrawal is contentment
[17:50]and abandoning such existential matters as do not concern you the means
[17:55]to reflection is emptiness or desirelessness and the butress of emptiness is
[18:00]abstinence the completion of abstinence is precaution and the door to precaution
[18:05]is fear the proof of fear is glorification of Allah adherence to
[18:09]obeying his commands with sincerity fear and caution and holding back from
[18:13]The Forbidden and the guide to this is knowledge Almighty Allah said
[18:17]those of his servants who are possessed of knowledge fear Allah in
[18:23]chapter 35 verse 28 oh
