[0:02][Applause] [Music] are confident people arrogant people many people find that there's

[0:27]a fine line between confidence and arrogance we all know that that

[0:32]confidence is a beautiful quality allowing us to take strong actions outside

[0:37]our comfort zone it is a quality that we want to encourage

[0:40]in ourself and in our own children or the community and we

[0:46]know that Allah subh has encouraged this quality especially with His prophets

[0:51]and his rul for example when Allah speaks to Prophet y he

[0:56]says oh take hold of the book with might or with strength

[1:05]yet arrogance or often defined in Arabic is heavily reprehensible in Islam

[1:11]we've read the verses of prophet lman when he addresses and advises

[1:14]his son he says to him and do not turn your face

[1:27]away from people in content nor walk in the Earth exultantly verily

[1:31]Allah does not love any self-conceited proud boaster quite often I work

[1:39]with clients who say they want to improve their confidence yet when

[1:42]we look at what is holding them back quite often we find

[1:45]that there is a subconscious associations of arrogance and confidence most often

[1:51]because at some point in their life they've known someone who was

[1:54]overtly confident but they considered to be arrogant and that Association hold

[1:59]holds them back because they don't want to be Associated as an

[2:05]arrogant person so why are these two qualities often mixed up or

[2:09]associated with each other what is the difference between them and how

[2:13]can we grow in confidence yet remain humble internally and externally first

[2:18]of all let's try to define the two terms and try to

[2:22]understand them in Practical terms confidence is a healthy belief in our

[2:27]ability and willingness to take action despite having fears or limiting thoughts

[2:32]in practice we find that confident people strive to grow especially when

[2:38]they connect that strength or ability to that which Allah subhana tala

[2:42]has given to them we know that all good obviously is from

[2:48]Allah alone and they connect that especially those who are religious they

[2:52]connect that strength and ability and their strive to improve is because

[2:57]it's connected to him they welcome confident people often welcome feedback um

[3:03]because they strive to be Learners and improve all the time rather

[3:07]than be perfectionists they support each other in their growth Journey because

[3:13]they know that a rise in one person be it intellectually or

[3:16]socially does not infringe on the on their own growth or their

[3:20]own success but rather they see that the strength of the community

[3:24]is in the rise of us all however when we look at

[3:30]arrogance we can termine as an inflated external self sense of self

[3:34]or importance which is actually often masking an inner insecurity arrogant people

[3:41]tend to struggle to accept feedback or criticism in any form it's

[3:46]given to them and worst of all they often try to belittle

[3:52]others to show themselves as being better any success that they have

[3:55]is attributed to their own self and in growing their ego rather

[3:58]than in the strength that Allah subhana tala is given to them

[4:03]in improving that relationship with Allah or improving their nefs arrogance is

[4:08]a quality of el and we know that when Allah subh talks

[4:15]about the story of el and Adam and he tells to bow

[4:18]to Adam says I am better than him better than Adam and

[4:24]this is the definition of arrogance and while there are signs that

[4:28]we can observe that differentiates arrogance and confidence it's important to remember

[4:34]that ultimately the biggest difference is in the intention of the person

[4:38]and the interaction with other people Allah subhana wa tala wants to

[4:42]see us grow in confidence we owe it to ourselves in an

[4:46]our purpose that Allah has given to us to always push ourselves

[4:49]to grow in our confidence and one of the best way to

[4:53]do that is to actually face our fears as IM Ali says

[4:58]if you fear something just go and do it and Allah subh

[5:02]says in the Quran do not faint and do not grieve for

[5:10]you shall have the upper hand if you are amongst the Believers

[5:14]what I have found also is that there are really powerful grounding

[5:19]techniques like gratitudes and affirmations that can remind us of the qualities

[5:24]and the strength that Allah has given to each one of us

[5:30]uniquely and we can use Gra itude or sh to thank Allah

[5:32]practically by using those skills in order to grow and to serve

[5:38]and that is what practical gratitude is all about rather than God

[5:41]forbid using the or the blessings that Allah has given us to

[5:47]be arrogant or to do Haram things we must continuously strive to

[5:51]grow and to always be reflective with ourself to make sure that

[5:55]our intentions are always aligned with Allah subhana wa ta'ala and to

[5:59]not allow to enter and impact Our intention or our actions at

[6:05]any time in any way so those grounding techniques of reflection of

[6:09]shukur of turning to Allah are genuinely very very powerful to push

[6:13]oursel but also to realign Our intention all the time remember all

[6:19]the time that Allah subhana tala has given you every good that

[6:22]you have and Allah wants to see you use that and Allah

[6:27]subhana tala is the only one who opens those doors of success

[6:30]ESS remember to also read the duas of our imams who are

[6:37]the models that showed us true humbleness despite the status the highest

[6:41]status that Allah has given to them and the success that they

[6:43]had they remained in the highest forms of humbleness and um to

[6:52]towards themselves and towards Allah so remember to read those duas whether

[6:56]it's or du there's so many duas that are so powerful that

[6:59]align us to our strength but also Keeps Us humble and inshallah

[7:03]we can use those skills to always grow and to allow others

[7:08]to grow with us as well [Applause] [Music]
