[0:00]brothers and sisters I were going to be discussing community activism and

[0:04]as you all know unfortunately the recent situation in Sterling Heights has

[0:10]been a very detrimental one that's affected the entire Muslim community both

[0:15]here in Dearborn and in sterling heights it's a very unfortunate situation

[0:19]and for us to be able to get some further insight on

[0:21]it we were able to bring some of the brothers and sisters

[0:24]from the a my you which would be the youth group of

[0:28]their mosque in sterling heights here to our program tonight so at

[0:31]this moment we have joining us sisters Ameer Abdullah and I would

[0:34]like to welcome her to the podium where she will be able

[0:38]to take a few minutes of the program time to be able

[0:40]to share with us some thoughts on how the unfortunate situation has

[0:43]affected the community please welcome over fill out solo allah muhammad ali

[0:47]muhammad aslam o alaikum so I'm I'm three dog dulla and I'm

[1:02]with the my you so last week i'm sure most of you

[1:05]guys heard what happened in sterling heights how we were denied the

[1:08]right to build a mosque so we brought it to the attention

[1:09]of the council on August eighteenth i believe they told us to

[1:15]revise our plans they said the issues were trafficking that was traffic

[1:20]like zoning issues basically so September first we were turned down for

[1:25]wheezes of Zoning it was it was more of the prejudice that

[1:29]we believe because when we walked out people were booing at us

[1:34]people were saying Isis supporters I actually had a woman spit in

[1:38]my face like a lady as old as my grandma yeah and

[1:43]so it just hurt you know and me and my siblings actually

[1:47]took roses with us to pass them out because we wanted to

[1:51]kill them with kindness and we were we didn't have the opportunity

[1:53]to because we felt threatened so we just had to holy curry

[1:56]to our cars and our community has been affected in like in

[2:01]numerous ways because I'm not going to speak on everyone's behalf but

[2:04]like my experience I don't like to go out as much as

[2:07]I used to I feel like I'm constantly stared at I got

[2:08]down at a gas station the next day a man laughing at

[2:12]me so but there's a lot of people who are against us

[2:16]in the community but also I saw a lot of love from

[2:18]people non-muslims like on a lot of social media so that's basically

[2:23]just what's happening now and in sha allah whatever God wills is

[2:35]going to happen and some I salalah Muhammad Ali Mohammed also brothers

[2:48]and sisters joining us also from the a my you in sterling

[2:51]heights community is brother Adela so we would love to hear from

[2:55]him as well please welcome him to the podium of Allah Allah

[2:58]Allah Muhammad Ali Mohammed hi my name is Aden I'm from the

[3:08]my um sterling heights essentially what happened was a lot of the

[3:13]Commissioner is flopped on us and the city planner who was initially

[3:16]on our side also flat they all folded under a lot of

[3:22]public pressure and that essentially built a lot of distrust between our

[3:26]community and the leadership of sterling heights I know right now we're

[3:30]having council elections very soon and for many of the council members

[3:33]were not very interested in voting for them and there really aren't

[3:36]any alternate candidates who are sympathetic to our cause furthermore when I

[3:41]go out now with like my mother because you were as a

[3:46]job like for example I went on a trip a couple weeks

[3:48]ago when people talk to us you mr.

[3:52]being nice I just assumed that inside their head they're actually prejudiced

[3:57]toward us because of what happened and I find myself because of

[4:00]the chaldean population our community and I understand that most of them

[4:05]are actually friendly but even when they're being friendly to me I

[4:09]actually am angry when I'm talking to them I don't show it

[4:11]but what's happened has had an effect on us and I just

[4:18]wanted to put that out there thank you
