[6:35]bring peace but a sword i have come to turn a man

[6:42]against his father and her daughter against her mother and her daughter

[6:49]in law against her mother-in-law and man's enemy will be from amongst

[6:54]their household i did not come to bring peace but to bring

[7:02]a sword if this was a verse in the holy quran then

[7:07]the world normally is in a state of uproar but this actually

[7:10]is a line which is taken from the bible and is recognized

[7:13]as the words of jesus son of mary normally prophet jesus is

[7:19]described as the peaceful one and the prophet muhammad peace be upon

[7:24]him in his family is described as the man of the sword

[7:28]as in whenever you have discussions about the spread of islam there

[7:31]are always discussions that islam was spread by the sword muslims would

[7:36]go into different lands eastern and western and they'd kill anyone who

[7:42]did not convert you are either given an option that you follow

[7:46]me as your leader or that you are killed you follow me

[7:49]as your king or you are killed you follow me as your

[7:55]khalifa or you are killed you follow me as your prophet or

[7:57]you are killed islam has the worst image as being the religion

[8:04]spread by the sword and of course such an image was tainted

[8:07]even further when a person looked at al-qaeda or isis and so

[8:14]the book of matthew 10 34 to 36 highlights very clearly that

[8:22]even jesus alaihis salam had something to do with the sword the

[8:27]sword the word sword has mentioned the bible over 400 times in

[8:31]arabic the word for sword is safe and when you look within

[8:38]the holy quran the word safe is mentioned a staggering zero number

[8:43]of times the word safe is never mentioned in the holy quran

[8:47]whereas the word sword is mentioned in some opinions 407 times in

[8:53]the bible yet if you go to the world today and ask

[8:55]which religion was the one that was spread by the sword they'll

[8:59]always say islam nobody will ever say christianity why because christians love

[9:05]to show the aspect of jesus that he's the prince of peace

[9:09]turn the other cheek love your neighbors you love yourself you look

[9:14]out for yourself you look out for your neighbor they have rights

[9:19]over you other human beings have rights over you but when i

[9:22]look within the bible i find on numerous occasions that there are

[9:25]discussions of the sword in the bible as well that's why i

[9:29]don't know how many of you have seen on youtube when they

[9:32]give somebody a holy book they think that it's the quran because

[9:38]of the violent verses that are within the book when they're shown

[9:40]that it's the bible many people are surprised why because many assumed

[9:47]that nabi islam never ever discussed any concept of the sword any

[9:52]concept of anger or injustice any concept that his disciples would have

[9:57]a sword with him you'll always see that the holy prophet peace

[10:01]be upon him his family is always described that his companions had

[10:04]a sword his companions went to war his companions done jihad whereas

[10:11]what the christian world done brilliantly especially in the last 50 years

[10:15]was to always show that nabi is is him walking with some

[10:36]is that when i look in the bible i find that jesus

[10:55]in any violence quarrel defensive offensive whatsoever but the question is when

[11:03]jesus returns and when we have the second coming there are going

[11:06]to be people who are going to attack jesus there are going

[11:09]to be people who do not believe in jesus there are going

[11:12]to be people who question jesus because in the world that we

[11:15]have today are there people who mock jesus are there people who

[11:22]mock religion on their people who mock god on their people who

[11:26]if you get in their way financially they'll destroy you such people

[11:30]when jesus comes can jesus really look at them and just say

[11:34]i've returned a second time but i'm going to turn my cheek

[11:36]if you're going to hit me no on the contrary the reality

[11:41]is that when jesus returns the world is going to be in

[11:43]a state where there is going to be a state of war

[11:46]there's going to be a state in which there might be racist

[11:49]elements in the world when jesus therefore comes to establish god's kingdom

[11:54]on the earth there's bound to be the use of some sort

[11:58]of weapons at that time the question therefore arises is does christianity

[12:02]accept this image of jesus as in if i were to study

[12:09]matthew or i were to study luke or i were to study

[12:11]any of the gospels will i find discussions of the sword 100

[12:17]because we said the sword the word sword is mentioned in the

[12:20]bible 400 and more times but then when it uses the word

[12:26]sword how does that correlate with our belief as to what jesus

[12:29]will do with when he returns because for muslims jesus returns the

[12:33]dajjal is there the sufyani is there the mahdi is there there's

[12:39]no way these guys are going to be breaking bread and enjoying

[12:42]a meal with each other reality is that these all represent different

[12:46]systems one may represent a system of hate arrogance corruption bribery and

[12:54]another may represent a system of justice and equality and equity and

[13:01]human rights when these two clash there's going to be a reality

[13:04]that at the beginning there might be some sort of conflict resolution

[13:07]but what's going to happen later on when jesus faces the dead

[13:11]be it system or person how's the isa going to face them

[13:15]what's going to happen in syria what's going to happen in iraq

[13:18]what's going to happen in for example the hijaz what's going to

[13:23]happen in palestine and jerusalem therefore when a person looks in the

[13:28]bible there are certain indications of how jesus was and how jesus

[13:34]will be and it is far from the pacifist image that was

[13:40]created to deceive people to convert towards a particular religion let us

[13:47]tonight examine jesus relationship with the sword and what will happen towards

[13:53]the end of time and i'd like to examine this in the

[13:55]following stages number one how did prophet jesus in his own life

[14:02]show that there are times where you need to be angry there

[14:09]are times you need to speak out against the unjust and even

[14:11]if that means that some of you may have to carry a

[14:17]sword number two how did he also talk about the fact that

[14:18]if the sword is your be-all and end-all it will cause you

[14:23]to perish and that your focus shouldn't only be on the sword

[14:26]number three why did jesus say i have not come to bring

[14:30]peace i've come with a sword and that there will be people

[14:36]turning against each other like daughters against their mothers and people's own

[14:38]household what is it about his message where he knew that such

[14:44]a thing would happen number four when jesus brings this message towards

[14:48]the end of time how is there a possibility within the bible

[14:52]that jesus may fight those who do not accept his kingdom and

[14:59]what is the debate about luke 19 27 and the lions bring

[15:04]them and slay them and the lions whoever doesn't accept me from

[15:08]their enemies as king then kill them in front of me is

[15:12]this what jesus would allude to within luke number five how do

[15:16]we see jesus in relation to the prophet muhammad and the spread

[15:20]of religion what is the difference between the spread of religion islam

[16:32]then you really become a human being you're no longer a human

[17:22]jesus alaihis salaam was not this pacifist turned the other cheek when

[17:29]you saw wrong and the best example was at the passover in

[17:31]front of 300 000 jewish people 300 to 400 000 people that

[17:37]come for the passover in jerusalem when they've come for the passover

[17:41]they've come through the temple what's in the temple at the time

[17:44]merchandise there's merchandise and trade everywhere in the temple this particular incident

[17:50]is one of the most famous incidents in christianity why is it

[17:55]one of the most famous because it shows a different edge to

[18:01]jesus an edge where jesus is ready to speak out against not

[18:05]just the unjust from outside his religion but also the unjust from

[18:09]within his religion it's very easy for us to speak out against

[18:14]the unjust from outside of the religion that's easy but to speak

[18:17]out against the unjust in our religion is not easy i can

[18:21]attack people of other religions but how about when i see a

[18:25]vuln within my own religion on the one hand jesus used to

[18:29]be angry at the pharisees because he saw they were hard-hearted they

[18:34]knew their religious book but knowing one's religious book is not enough

[18:39]for you to have a soft heart the rest you need tawfiq

[18:43]and you need noor from allah subhanwa there are people in the

[18:47]world who memorize the quran but they are people who are malicious

[18:50]in some cases arrogant in some cases puritanical judgmental jesus whether you

[18:58]look in the bible or you look at islamic tradition when he

[21:06]lead them to committing a sin then there's no issue the bible

[21:11]says this and our religion says this anger in the way of

[21:16]god can mean one man's strike destroyed amrit forever a person who's

[21:21]angry for the sake of god as jesus was at that moment

[21:26]there's no problem where anger becomes a problem is for my selfish

[21:30]ego i'm being angry because of my selfish ego that's an issue

[21:34]but when i'm being angry against who against those in my religion

[21:40]who are conning people who have come for their hajj or their

[21:43]pilgrimage they're conning them they're scamming them that's anger there's no issue

[21:49]jesus therefore this was known in certain christian circles as righteous indignation

[21:54]what do we mean righteous indignation is that i get angry for

[22:00]a just cause how could i describe a prophet of god as

[22:03]being passive when he sees injustice no way a messenger of god

[22:09]someone who god has sent will not remain silent when they see

[22:13]a vol either their heart at least will be angry or their

[22:17]mouth will be angry or what will become angry or they'll even

[22:21]take a sword and rise against those who are unjust to them

[22:25]i'm not going to say the prophets of god each and every

[22:28]one of them was looking forward to carrying a sword no way

[22:30]there's no way jesus even tells peter he says to him very

[22:36]clearly when there is that last moment of jesus because you know

[22:39]it's after the turning of the tables and that passover this whole

[24:02]their sword when they're a gang you know sometimes they say that

[24:15]there are some people when they're on their ones you'll see them

[24:17]that they're not able to talk then suddenly we've got their voice

[24:24]are around prophets of god there are some one-on-one in a battle

[24:28]they'll run away but when they're around a group of people suddenly

[28:26]you're making it clear to them that there's a chance your own

[28:29]father is the one who will fight you true if you bring

[28:34]a religion or you bring a path and that path in your

[28:39]house your dad follows one way you've been listening to he says

[29:12]holding on to faith sometimes the biggest problem they face in being

[29:16]religious can be members of their own household yes today for example

[29:19]there are wives in the muslim world they want to get closer

[29:24]to god their husbands have no interest in religion let's go to

[29:28]the mosque you take the kids i'll stay at home let's go

[29:31]ziada you take the kids i'll stay at home let's go to

[29:32]hajj you take the kids they'll stay at home so what was

[29:35]the point of getting married to each other the point of getting

[29:37]married was that we want to grow spiritually together evolve together i

[29:41]recognize that in my own household i might even have someone who

[29:46]mocks me for being religious now how many girls do you see

[29:50]who want to wear hijab their own family says don't worry don't

[29:53]wear there are girls they want to wear hijab their families are

[29:56]the ones who tell them don't wear there are girls who want

[30:00]to wear hijab their husbands sell them don't wear there are some

[30:02]muslims who even say don't bring me a girl with hijab which

[30:04]by the way in one way the guy at least is being

[30:07]truthful about the level of his religiosity mine another way isn't it

[30:11]sad that we've reached this level where a muslim man can say

[30:14]if you're going to bring me a girl as a future wife

[30:15]don't bring me one who wears hijab because she's not going to

[30:19]be nice or cool or whatever next to me who then becomes

[30:21]sometimes your difficult enemy at home of course by the way this

[30:26]isn't an excuse for someone saying oh because that's the situation i

[30:28]want to get divorced no at the end you grow together try

[30:30]and find ways of building your love with one another but sometimes

[30:35]your enemy is in your house therefore when jesus said what when

[30:39]jesus said do not suppose i've come to bring peace meaning that

[30:42]when i've come with a message don't think it's all lovey-dovey peaceful

[30:47]then everything's gonna be cool i if i have to i'll be

[30:51]peaceful i'd love it to be peaceful but if i have to

[30:54]i'll use a sword do not suppose that i have come to

[30:58]bring peace and if i see my enemies are mocking me my

[31:03]enemies are ridiculing me my enemies are attacking my people i am

[31:07]not scared to use the sword why would the prophet of god

[31:09]use the sword do you think prophets of god just want to

[31:12]pick up swords and go around killing people no if a prophet

[31:15]of god is being attacked by a group of people what do

[31:18]we expect them to do we expect them to try and either

[31:20]have a diplomatic solution with those people or if not if those

[31:25]people still after a diplomatic solution are breaking diplomatic solutions therefore what

[31:29]you expect to happen what you expect to happen then after a

[31:33]treaty has been broken is that i'm gonna brandish my sword what

[31:36]do i mean by this in the quran there is a verse

[31:40]called the verse of the sword i said in my lecture the

[31:42]word for sword in arabic is safe in the quran has the

[31:49]word safe ever me mentioned no in the bible the word sword

[31:55]has been mentioned 407 times let's say even more than 300 if

[31:58]you want to be when i look within the quran there's the

[32:01]first called the verse of the sword someone says what says there

[32:06]is no sword in the quran there is sword in the bible

[32:09]but in the quran is the word so there no so how

[32:13]could there be a verse of the sword there's a verse of

[32:16]the sword which is similar because they see it as being a

[32:19]violent verse these verses of the quran you'll see television channels when

[32:24]bin laden does something when isis does something when it does something

[32:28]when abu bakr al-baghdadi does something when a bomb goes off when

[32:31]some crazy guy does a bomb one when that happens they always

[32:36]use the verse of the quran no one quotes matthew 10 34

[32:38]36 and that's why we muslims if we're not more involved in

[32:41]the media then there's no way we can change any narrative if

[32:46]our sons and daughters are all doing well as doctors dentists opticians

[32:49]lawyers in the world of teaching and so on that's great but

[32:54]we need more journalists we need people who are able to show

[32:57]that don't give this image that the quran is the quran doesn't

[33:01]have the word sword once the bible has the word sword so

[33:05]many times yet the quran always gets all the bad press the

[33:26]religion of peace peace it says take them and slay them there's

[33:33]not much peace they have a point if the quran we claim

[34:41]quraysh broke the treaty one night by killing a group of muslims

[34:43]even though the treaty said for 10 years no qurayshi kills a

[34:47]muslim and no muslim kills hey when the treaty was broken they

[34:53]were given the chance to repent they were given the chance to

[34:55]ask for forgiveness you've just come into our land sacred space even

[34:58]in the world laws today of how countries and governments operate there

[35:02]is a certain agreement between countries or boundaries and borders you don't

[35:06]just enter my boundaries or borders and just take them in so

[35:10]then what happened they broke it that's when the quran said the

[35:15]quran firstly of course by the way if i've made a treaty

[40:34]a sword so jesus was he ready to use a sword of

[40:38]course did he want to brandish a sword no does any prophet

[46:25]world where people can coexist and live with each other in peace

[46:31]to respect each other's opinions because for the both of them the

[46:41]children were killed when humans were forced to be thirsty on streets

[46:49]when humans were forced to be thirsty in the middle of deserts

[46:52]and for both of them one man is the man they remember

[47:13]oppressed or the poor or those who were deemed weak and destitutes

[47:19]on the earth then imam al-hussein did use that sword but with

[47:23]that same sword they ensured that they were able to do what

[47:29]they were able to torture him his family they were able to

[47:30]kill him but on top of all of that they were able

[47:36]to mutilate his body if only those horses knew that the body

[47:43]they were trampling on was the body of rasulullah did not the

[47:49]prophet say hussain is from me and i am from hussain allah

[47:54]loves the one who loves hussein so when those horses trampled on

[48:01]his holy body if only those horses knew that was the body

[48:05]of ahmed they were trembling on the horses trembled on the holy

[48:11]body of abba abdullah while his sons saw them from a distance

[48:57]occasion he went towards a man he saw the man who was

[49:02]in the graveyard the man the undertaker buries all the bodies he

[49:06]said to him oh man when i die will you bury my

[49:10]body he said to him oh grandson of rasulullah it will be

[49:13]my honor to bury your body he said to him oh man

[49:19]my father lay on the earth of carabella for three nights with

[49:22]no one to bury his holy body but one night one night

[49:28]was a night that broke the imam's heart the imam was walking

[49:32]one night in the streets he heard a man calling out the

[49:45]another came towards the man he said to him oh man i

[49:48]heard you say that you are a stranger he said to him

[49:53]yes i am he said to him oh man is this because

[49:59]you have no family in your life he said to him no

[50:00]i have a family but my family are not here he said

[50:06]dream is this because you are a man who is hungry is

[50:11]this why you call out you're a stranger he said no i

[50:14]have some food to eat is this because you're a man who

[50:19]has no shelter why is it that you call yourself a stranger

[50:23]when you have all of these things a stranger is a man

[50:29]who lies on the ground with his family not able to bury

[50:39]his body a stranger is a man who dies hungry with no

[50:42]one who came to feed him as strange as a man who

[50:49]lay thirsty on the plains of carabella with no money to quench
