Excerpt of the speech of Imam Khomeini - Translated by Sayyid Haydar Jamaludeen

The greatest of wars is that which is waged against the low desires of our carnal soul so has our prophet said. No true victory can be attained over the external enemies, before we have not vanquished our internal foes. These are the carnal desires and passions of our soul. This is a good lesson to be taken by those who want to tread the path of spiritual and physical evolution and development.

Dua Iftitah recited by Hajj Mohammed Taleb in English translation.

Dua Iftitah was taught by Imam Mahdi (AJTFS) to recite every night during the month Ramadhan. Supplication of Al-Iftitah is generally recited during each night of the month of Ramadan. The article written by Sheikh Mohammed Ali Shomali is to explain some of its main themes such as: praising of Allah, salutations to the prophet and his household, and special salutations to Imam Mahdi (AJTFS).

It is explained from duas.org that the supplication can be divided into two parts:
1) Man's relationship with Allah &
2) Divine leaders.

As the original language of this supplication is in Arabic, it is recommended to learn the supplication in our own language, so when we read and recite the Arabic version of the supplication, we will understand better and know what we are supplicating to Allah SWT.

Before we approach the Holy Month of Ramadhan and whilst we are in the blessed month, I advise my dear brothers and sisters to read a beautiful brief commentary of this Dua written by Agha Mohammed Taqi Misbah Yazdi. The Whispered Prayers, is a collection of 15 intimate conversations with Allah SWT and the 15 Whispered Prayers are extracted from the book of Imam Zainul Abideen A.S - known as Sahifa Sajjadiya, also known famously as the Psalms of Islam.

Munajaat means "talking" or "having a conversation". In this case, it is the intimate conversations of our Imam with his Lord. Conversing with God regularly is true spirituality, and these conversations between Imam Sajjad (as) and God will really open our eyes. Again, there are conversations for different spiritual
states, such as being fearful, hopeful and thankful. Conversing with Allah according to our current spiritual state will only serve to enhance our relationship with him. (al-islam.org)

The prayers start with 'repentance', as repentance is the first step towards a genuine communion with God.
