Stay away from sins!

Excerpt of the lecture delivered by Sheikh Miqdad Rajabali (of the 12th Night of Muharram 1444 AH at KSIMC of London - Stanmore

https://youtu.be/5GQTFmjjwnQ
(Starting at 31:05)

Ayatullah Bahjat (ra) saw abandoning and refraining from sins to be the first and most important step toward self-purification in the spiritual journey to God.

According him, acting upon whatever one already knows paves the way for practical spiritual development and receiving more knowledge from God. In a letter to all seekers of guidance, he wrote:

'I ask those who want to be taught, ‘Have you acted upon whatever you heard before?’ Do you know that if a person practices what he knows, God will teach him what he does not know? If man does not practice what he knows, can he expect his knowledge to increase? No Dhikr is superior to practical Dhikr, and no practical Dhikr is superior to abandoning sins in terms of beliefs and actions... '

Dua Sabah - recited by Haj Mohammad Taleb in English
with [ENG SUBS]

It is related in the book "Musbah" that the best time for reading this prayer is after the morning nafila prayer. Another tradition by Allama Majlisi states this dua is the 'taqeeb' of the morning prayer.

The supplication of dawn is one of those soul-elevating prayers to the Almighty, which reflect the sublimity, piety, and high literary standard of Imam Ali's (A) style and diction. Dawn is the best time of prayer, repentance and invocation of the Sustainer of the universe, when the doors of the heavens are opened and all creatures receive their sustenance from Him.

It is a privilege of the Muslims to be commanded to stand up in all humility before their Maker everyday, at the first streak of dawn: to glorify their Lord and Master and to beg of Him not only material but also spiritual sustenance. So particular was Imam Ali (A) about prayers at dawn that on his death-bed he called upon the red glow of the morning to bear witness that never in his entire life had morning appeared in the sky to find him sleeping. May his followers try to emulate his radiant example.

Ziyarat Ashura recited by Alireza Asgharzadeh
at Al-Nabi (s) Masjed (12/09/2016)
(with English subtitles)

Ziyarat Ashura is a sacred tradition (Hadees-e-Qudsi) whose references can be found in Misbah al-Mutahajjid by Shaykh al-Tusi and Kamil al-Ziyarat by Ibn Qulawayh. In expressing veneration and seeking higher levels of peace for Imam Hussain (AS), we are trying to unite with his ideas, thoughts and towering volition, and in cursing his opponents who overtly declared themselves to be Muslims and believers, but were extensions of hypocrites, we are trying to flee from all their ideas, thoughts and actions. Hence this recital of Ziyarat Ashura seeks to unite the reciter with the sacred spirit of Imam Hussain (AS).

Allamah Amini (May Allah SWT elevate his soul), the author of Al-Ghadir mentions: "Oh my dear child, never and under no circumstances forget Ziyarat Ashura. Recite it frequently and take it as an incumbent upon yourself. It is of many avails and blessings and, will call prosperity of your life and salvation of your soul."
