There are three different opinions concerning the religion of the Prophet (s) before Prophethood. What are they?
1. He was a prophet before he received the message of Islam but did not announce this to the people.
2. He followed the upright path of Ibrahim (as).
3. The Prophet (s) practiced a religion which was exactly the same as the upright religion his ancestor Prophet Ibrahim (as) had practiced. However, as Prophet Muhammad (s) is higher in rank than Prophet Ibrahim (as), he is not the follower of his religion. This clip examines the categories of people who don’t have to fast:
1. The one who is mentally challenged
2. Those who are in the state of Haydh and postpartum bleeding (bleeding after giving birth).
3. The one who is ill and the illness harms his health. How do you determine whether it’s harmful? Between you and Allah SWT, you believe that fasting is harmful or your doctor tells you it’s harmful and this gives you confidence that it’s harmful. In the end, you have to follow your own conviction.
4. The traveller who travels for any reason that’s not for a Haram purpose. There are a few exceptions to a traveler which has been discussed previously (such as frequent travelers).
5. The one in a coma. When they wake up from the coma and they had missed the month of Ramadhan, they don’t have to make them up.
