The World Will Change for You

It is rare to find a tradition like the one that I will read for you now. Hazrat Zahra (s) said, “Whoever sends his pure worship acts towards God, God will determine the best expedient for him.”

She (Hazrat Fatimah (s)) is a mother. A mother is compassionate. She has said the most important thing for each of our entire lives. Go and search. If you can find stronger words than these for building lives, bring them. Find them from the words of the Household of the Prophet (a) themselves. When people say mother, this is what they mean.
What did she say God would do for the person who sends pure worship towards Him? He will determine the best expedient for him.
A person has an accident; and, he says this is what was expedient for me. He marries and says this is what was expedient for me. He becomes rich and says this is what was expedient for me. Now my question is that were these the best of what could have happened for him? This is a very important question. (People say,) “This was destined for us. We did our best, but this was the result.” No matter if the result was good or bad, (the question is that) did the best of what could have happened for you come about?
I swear to God that we don’t know the friends of God. God is a witness that the world is at the disposal of His friends. I swear to God that there are many things that we can’t say about the lives of Imam Khomeini (r.h) and the leader (Ayatollah Khamenei).
It has been said “Don’t compare the pure people’s deeds with your own deeds, although the deeds may look similar.” Their lives are calculated based on something else. Did you see what Hazrat Khizr did? Hazrat Musa wasn’t able to be patient. Hazrat Khizr said, “I am working based upon what is the best, very complicated expedient. I receive some insight, and I have to act upon it. You won’t be able to be patient.”
“Was what came about in your interest?” “Yes.” “Was this marriage in your interest?” “Yes.” “Was it the best thing in your interest?” “I don’t know!” “What had you done for the best thing in your interest to be determined for you?”
The condition for the best thing in someone’s interest is pure worship. Change yourself, and the world will change for you. Since the Household of the Prophet (a) paid attention to themselves, they were able to change the world. Hazrat Fatimah Zahra (s) paid attention to herself. Every moment she was in pursuit of changing and perfecting herself.

Change yourself, and the world will change for you.

Gentlemen, do you know that God is idle?! Isn't it a pity? He is powerful, and He loves us. But He is idly waiting! He has everything. He says, “Ask Me, and I'll help you. Don't get help, fine! But you won’t be able to go on.”
When is God idle? When He doesn't help His servant. Aservant says, "I don't want Your help.” So he goes into the gears moving the universe!
Boom! Bang! He’s like someone who has fallen into a meat grinder. And the One Who created the meat grinder is sitting idly. He says, "You’re going into the meat grinder yourself. You’ll be crushed. Ground meat! What else should I do?”
God is idle. He doesn't have anything to do! Isn't this a pity that we leave God waiting idly?! What facilities He has! He has everything. He says, “Ask Me, and I'll help you. Don't get help, fine! But you won’t be able to go on.” Say, "Help me to become free.” God immediately becomes active and says, “Ok, come. I have created you to help you!” You know the biggest divine punishment that is mentioned in the Qur’an is, for example, "I don’t help the unbelievers.”
"The unbelievers shall have no guardian.” [Qur’an 47:11] God says, “The believers have a guardian. I help them. Shall I help you or not?” They answer, “No, do Your Own work.” He tells God, “Do Your Own work!” Ask God for help. You don’t have to try to become free by yourself. Tell Him to free you from the shackles of the world.
God will start to free you. He will cut these bonds. He will free you from desires first. You just need to help yourself a little too! The philosophy of being a servant is to become free.

When you look in people’s eyes, you see that they can’t wait anymore.
A woman went to Imam Sadiq (as) because she had lost her small child. She was upset the first and the second time when she went to the Imam. Imam Sadiq (as) calmed her down, invited her to be patient, and gave her hope. The third time she went to him she was extremely agitated. Imam Sadiq (as) said, “Your child will be found today. You will find your lost child.” When she left the Imam’s presence, she saw her child. The people around Imam Sadiq (as) asked him, “Did you use your knowledge of the unseen to tell her that her child will be found today?” Imam Sadiq (as) said, “No, I understood this from the eyes of this mother who was agitated. She couldn’t be patient and tolerate this anymore.”
O Imam of the Time, these people cannot bear to see the children of Gaza being massacred anymore. O Imam of the Time, none of the Muslims can. No decent human being in the world can bare this anymore. Accept our restlessness from us and allow us to see you, O Ibn al-Hasan!

O Ibn al-Hasan, come and bring Jesus, the son of Mary, with you. “I swear by the sun and its heat, [and the light it shines on the world,] And the moon when it follows the sun.” A full moon can be seen more and manifests itself. “And by the day, when it shows it, And by the night, when it envelops it, And by the heaven and Him Who made it.”
 
If music was being played here, for this part it would have had a very fast, strong beat that would have been an introduction in itself. “And by the heaven and Him Who made it. And the earth and Him Who extended it.” Look at the size of the things God is swearing to.

God has sworn by everything that is great, glorious, beautiful, effective and isn’t easily accessible in the world to human beings in these verses. Then, He swears to something else after these. Maybe He wants to say this is as beautiful as the previous ones, even more beautiful than those! “And by the soul and He Who shaped it.”
[God says,] “I swear by the human soul and the One Who shaped it so beautifully!” "Shaping" can also be said about the sky, the earth, the moon, the sun, the night and the day. But He didn’t say this about the day and night. "Shaping" means “I, God, made the human being’s soul with such beauty, balanced and in a wonderful arrangement.” “And by the soul and He Who shaped it.” How great, glorious and beautiful the soul is! How unknown a human being is! Allahu Akbar! “And by the soul and He Who shaped it. Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it.”
 
[God says,] “I, God, created this soul so beautifully, then I sent inspiration and put people in charge of protecting themselves.” “Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it.” [He says,] “I, God, inspire a person telling him what will harm him.” “Sawwaha (Shaping)” means giving beauty, harmony, and a wonderful order. “Fujur (sins)” means something that harms and splits open. “I, God, taught them about sins.

The First Step to Reaching Tranquillity

Our goal from being more tranquil is for many of our talents, which are internal and of which we are often unaware, to flourish. When a person’s life and spirit are hectic, he is unable to discover his strengths. Whether he wants to reach God or to his own goals, tranquillity is a very necessary condition.
To see if you have become closer to God or not, see how tranquil you are. If your tranquillity has decreased and you feel chaotic, know that you are now far from God! A person, who is close to God, won’t be like this.
What is the first step a person should take to achieve a tranquil life? He should think. My friends, a person who doesn’t think can’t reach tranquillity. A person who is continually fed audio and visual input, or a person who constantly talks, can’t think. A person who is constantly entangled with others can’t think. One must put time for thinking, be alone, have a program, and write down some things.
Once a young man came, who was entangled in emotions and friendships, as often happens between the ages of 15 and 19. This age varies for different people. He said, “I have become very dependent on my friend. What should I do? I’m bothering him, and he is bothering me. If he doesn’t come out one time to have juice together, I get very upset.” I said, “Its period will pass.” He said, “What should I do now?!” I said, “Its period will pass. A day will come when you will laugh at this scene.” He wasn’t listening at all, “What should I do now?!” I said, “Think about what I said.” God is a witness, if he had thought about how he will one day laugh at such a thing that had become important for him, it would have finished. This excessive friendship would have finished.
Friends, what is important for you now? Think about it a little. When will the period of it being important finish? Think about it a little. Whatever it is, it will eventually no longer be important for you. If this doesn’t happen, it will happen when you are dying. When you are dying you’ll say, “What difference did it make?! Why did I spend even one moment on it?”
Think. Only by thinking. If you don’t think, you’ll fight with me because I am saying these things! You’ll say, “Nonsense! He doesn’t solve our problems and spuriously says, ‘Think and your problems will be solved.’” Ok, don’t think. Be comfortable. What can I do? But, if you do think, you will understand that this thing which has become important for you isn’t important. Just by thinking!
A person won’t get anywhere without thinking and understanding the complexities of this world. Much of wisdom can only be understood by thinking. We know about dying. If we think about it, it will have an effect. We should have a program for thinking. Change any lifestyle habit, which doesn’t let you think.
The lifestyle, which is wrong, is the one that doesn’t let a person think. If we are able to think about the things we know, and think correctly the way that people who think do, we will reach to high levels.
God won’t leave a person who thinks without sustenance! But, what kind of thinking?! A tradition says, “Being at leisure causes thinking.” If you are not at leisure and tranquil, and you start thinking, you’ll start thinking about your concerns! I swear to God, sometimes it’s funny how we sit and think about how to solve problems. God says, “What are you thinking about now?” “My problems.” “Didn’t you do what you could do?” “Yes.” “You know what you should do tomorrow?” “Yes.” “So why are you still thinking? Leave the rest to Me (God). I am like your secretary.” God says this!
To see if you have become closer to God or not, see how tranquil you are. If your tranquillity has decreased and you feel chaotic, know that you are now far from God! A person, who is close to God, won’t be like this. Imam Sadiq (‘a) said, “A religious person thinks, and his thinking brings him calmness.”

What is the philosophy behind the trials and tribulations that come to us?

In fact, a human being’s restlessness won’t be resolved by not going to Hell. His calmness won’t be complete with just Heaven either. Our soul has been created in such a way that the only answer to our soul is God Himself. That is God’s Love, Kindness, and Grace. We have been created like this.
It is not possible to change this creature, his nature and his structure. What do the Friends of God say when talking to God? They say, “Let’s suppose we can tolerate Hell. How can we tolerate You not being kind to us?” The way the Friends of God talk to God is very different from the way we talk. We say, “We are not concerned about Your Kindness. Just don’t take us to Hell, and we are fine.”
The Friends of God say exactly the opposite. In fact, they want to say, “If You want to take us to Hell, it’s fine. But, we want Your Kindness.” They talk the same way about the world’s problems too, “Blame me, blame me, until You are satisfied.” (Arafah Supplication) Blame me and hit me. But, don’t be upset at me. Don’t be displeased with me. Don’t be angry with me. I haven’t come to get something and leave. I want You Yourself to be good with me.
We don’t have these spiritual fluctuations and this excitement when talking to God. In our relationship with God, we don’t beg for His Kindness. Why? Because, basically we don’t see ourselves in need of His Kindness. We see ourselves in need of our own interests, our interests in this world and the Hereafter. We see our need for our trials to be resolved, our trials in this world and the Hereafter. This relationship itself has been forgotten!
What is interesting is that all of the world’s trials are for us to move towards discovering this relationship. God shows us, “See, no one loves you!” And, He wants to whisper in our ears, “Except Me!” But, we talk to God and say, “God, why doesn’t anyone love me. Do something so that someone will love me.” “But, I have given you solitude for you to come towards Me.”
The philosophy of the trials, and sometimes this feeling comes even without trials, is for a person to feel lonely. After he feels he is alone, he will ask for God’s companionship. When he asks for God’s companionship, he will ask for His Kindness. He shouldn’t ask God to help him find an entertainment due to his loneliness. God says, “I separate you from other entertainments for you to be entertained by Me! Why do you ask for something else from Me again?”
In many cases, a bad thing that happens for the youth is that they slowly cut their dependence on their parent’s kindness. But, during their education they don’t put their dependence on God and His Kindness instead. Where do they try to find this? In receiving kindness from the opposite gender. Many people consider their relationship with the opposite gender to be so important because of the emotional aspects. This young person is looking for the source of emotion, attention and kindness. They haven’t taught him that this is only in the Hereafter. That source, which satisfies a person, is God only. They look for it on earth, and thousands of crises arise.
Spiritually too, you can see that there are many people who believe in God, obey religion, and believe in the Hereafter. But, they still don’t feel good. He is afraid of divine punishment. But, this fear should have had a result, which hasn’t yet come about for him. If you are afraid of divine punishment, you should take refuge with God. Something should happen here. You should pay attention to God’s Kindness now that you have gone to Him. You should receive His Kindness and nourishment from it.
People don’t try to build this relationship. They say, “God, have You forgiven me? Hurry. I want to go. I have work to do.” “Where do you want to go?” “I want to live my life.” “Where is life? What do you want to enjoy? What do you want to do next?” A person should gain nourishment from God’s Kindness for him to calm down. What feeling should we search for? The feeling of enjoying God’s Kindness and thanking Him due to His Kindness. This should happen in us for that beautiful occurrence, which we expect, to take place. Our soul has been created in such a way that the only answer to our soul is God Himself. That is God’s Love, Kindness, and Grace. We have been created like this.
