One verse from the Quran that beautifully conveys the importance of forgiveness is:

"And let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful." (Quran 24:22)

This verse is a reminder to Muslims that forgiveness is not only a virtue but also a way to earn Allah's forgiveness. The verse encourages Muslims to forgive others, as they would like to be forgiven themselves. It also reminds that Allah is Forgiving and Merciful, and by practicing forgiveness, we align ourselves with the qualities of Allah.

The verse also implies that forgiveness is not only about the person who has wronged us, but also about ourselves. When we forgive, we free ourselves from the pain and suffering that comes with holding onto grudges, and open ourselves up to peace, love, and understanding.

Additionally, the verse encourages not only to forgive but also to overlook the wrongs committed. It suggests to not only forgive but also to forget, to move on and not to hold any grudges or ill feelings towards the person who has wronged us. This is considered a higher level of forgiveness that is praised in Islamic teachings.

Jonah in the Quran has been mentioned a number of times and his story has been told, and a whole surah is by his name, that is, surah Yūnus, the Arabic form of Jonah.

He was an Israelite prophet who left his people due to their disobedience and was thrown into the sea to be swallowed by a giant fish. Jonah’s name has been mentioned four times in the Quran and once by his title Dhu al-Nūn (ذوالنّون) and once by Ṣāḥib al-Ḥūt (صاحب الحوت), both meaning Man of the Fish.
