[0:34]respected brothers and sisters the month of ramadan is the season of

[0:42]the quran it is the time that the quran was revealed on

[0:49]the heart of rasulallah and it is a time to ponder upon

[0:59]the meanings of the quran it is a time to recite the

[1:02]quran but it's also a time to ponder and do tadabur and

[1:08]think about the meanings of the verses in the quran allah says

[1:18]do they not ponder and think about the meanings of the verses

[1:24]in the quran the quran is the message of allah from us

[1:28]to us allah is speaking to us through the quran so when

[1:34]we read the quran we have to try to see what is

[1:35]allah subhana ta'ala trying to say what is the message that allah

[1:41]bringing down to us and this is the perfect opportunity during these

[1:47]holy days during these holy nights this is the perfect time to

[1:51]read the quran and ponder upon the meanings of the quran this

[1:56]is why i have decided to do the tafseer of the shorter

[2:00]surahs in the quran the surahs in the end of the quran

[2:04]in the last in the end of the quran and we will

[2:11]do one surah for every session insha'allah the last surah in the

[2:15]quran surah 114 there are 114 surahs or chapters in the quran

[2:23]and the last surah is surat nas the surah that i began

[2:29]reciting and the last surahs in the quran beginning with jesus the

[2:33]shorter surahs typically not all of them typically these surahs most of

[2:38]them they were revealed in mecca and you can tell a meccan

[2:43]surah from a madin in surah what's the difference between a meccan

[2:46]and madinan the surah that is meccan and in the quran at

[2:50]the the end of the quran it tells you whether a surah

[2:55]is maki or madani here in the last page in the index

[2:58]it tells you for example al-fatiha al-baqarah the last surahs of the

[3:07]quran you could tell whether they were revealed in mecca when the

[3:11]prophet was in mecca for the first 13 years or whether they

[3:15]were revealed in medina typically there are some clues that even if

[3:20]you don't go and check even if you don't go and read

[3:24]you know a meccan surah from the theme of the surah the

[3:27]surahs focus on the greater beliefs they focus on the qiyama they

[3:31]focus on the day of judgment they focus on tawheed on the

[3:34]belief in god whereas the medinan surahs the surahs that were revealed

[3:38]in madinah they're talking to an already established community rasulullah was in

[3:43]medina he's already established the community so now you have the rules

[3:48]of muslim interaction between one another or the engagement between the muslims

[3:52]and the others and the other inhabitants of medina for example the

[3:56]jews or the christians or others while the meccan surahs they are

[4:01]speaking to the kuffar they are speaking to the pagans to the

[4:05]idol worshipers so surat nas is a meccan surah as scholars have

[4:12]pointed out and surat annas and the one that comes right before

[4:21]it surat so 113 and 114 they are referred to as attain

[4:26]meaning the ones that use that are read for for protection seeking

[4:36]refuge to allah in times of difficulty and challenges and this is

[4:41]what the quran does my dear brothers and sisters a lot of

[4:46]people when they read the quran the quran is not like any

[4:48]other book that you read it's not like a newspaper or a

[4:52]story or a novel or a fiction whatever you read the quran

[4:55]you read it it's the message of god to us it has

[4:59]an impact on our lives on our minds on our hearts and

[5:03]it gives you protection there are verses there are surahs in the

[5:08]quran that give you protection for example you recite one surah it

[5:13]will increase your wealth like for example that will increase your risk

[5:18]you recite another surah it will bring comfort to your heart it

[5:20]will make you at peace like surati has seen and these they

[5:27]are red in times of fear when you are afraid of shaytaan

[5:31]or you are afraid of the evils of others and this is

[5:38]why they they're called the first is this this surah 1 14.

[5:47]i'm seeking refuge to god from what means you're seeking refuge from

[6:05]the evils of people from the evils of magic and witchcraft so

[6:08]surat nas seeking refuge to allah from shaytan and to to bring

[6:15]this uh idea to understand it better that some verses in the

[6:20]quran are read in times of protection for example italkursi rasulullah says

[6:23]you want to find protection recite italkur recite it once allah will

[6:27]send one angel to protect you recite it twice allah will send

[6:31]two angels recite it three times allah will send three angels you

[6:35]recite it four times allah will tell the angels leave this person

[6:38]i will protect him this isn't a hadith this is why we

[6:42]recite i tell kursi for the sake of protection reciting these surahs

[6:44]imam jaffar he says in this beautiful hadith and i want everyone

[6:51]to and i've repeated this several times but i want people to

[6:53]take note of this because the quran if we implement it and

[6:58]if we are friends with the quran if we use the verses

[7:00]if the quran is on the tip of our tongue the verses

[7:03]of the quran we will live a blessed life and it will

[7:06]guide us it will show us the way to the afterlife he

[7:18]says i'm surprised at the one who's afraid how does this person

[7:25]who's afraid why doesn't this person recite this verse so whenever you're

[7:29]afraid to recite this verse why the imam he explains he says

[7:42]allah the one who is afraid they fall in the namma of

[7:49]allah subhanahu ta'ala and no one will be able to harm them

[7:57]so this is saying allah these are the words of prophet yunus

[8:24]when he was in the belly of the well he kept saying

[8:31]this there's no god other than you there's no lord other than

[8:37]you subhanak all glory belongs to you i am or i was

[8:43]from the oppressors so when he said that allah subhanahu wa he

[8:47]says and then the imam says foreign and we remove the gem

[9:02]we remove the sorrow we remove that feeling of sadness from his

[9:06]heart waka dalic this is how we will save the believers if

[9:10]you ever have sorrow or sadness and then the imam continues he

[9:19]says the one who has enemies plotting against them why doesn't this

[9:26]person say you say this god protected him from the evils of

[9:51]what they had plotted against them furthermore the imam says if you

[9:55]want the dunya say masha allah say masha allah because allah says

[10:16]if you say that allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will give you more

[10:20]now we go back to the surah surah nas where there is

[10:28]a benefit to reciting surat nas and here the hadith says that

[10:36]rasulullah had pain he had pain in his body and allah subhanahu

[10:42]ta'ala and mikhail the two archangels allah sent them for the sake

[11:00]of protection and in another hadith he says servant of god allah

[11:33]has accepted your ahmad allah has accepted your act of worship so

[11:39]surat annas teaches us say i seek refuge in the lord of

[11:54]humankind now rasulallah is a prophet and he is ordered by allah

[12:03]to say and what is first of all your order to say

[12:14]it that means we have to always say this we have to

[12:17]always seek refuge to allah and what does mean anytime you read

[12:23]the quran what do we say i seek refuge in god from

[12:30]the cursed shaytan shaitaan satan because allah says in the quran seek

[12:46]refuge to god in god from the cursed on why because shaytan

[12:52]has nothing to do with us shaytaan doesn't shaytan is too busy

[12:57]for us when does shaitaan think of me when does shaytan come

[13:01]to me satan comes to me when he sees that i'm getting

[13:04]closer to allah ta'ala that's the time shaytan comes to me otherwise

[13:07]shaytan if he sees that i'm not worshiping god i'm not doing

[13:13]anything that is bringing me closer to god he might not come

[13:17]to me he comes to me when he sees that i'm building

[13:18]a relationship with god when are you building a relationship with god

[13:21]when you are reciting the quran when you're praying when you're reading

[13:26]du'a when you're thinking let me give charity let me do this

[13:28]good act let me go to the masjid that's when shaitaan comes

[13:31]to you and he tells you no no don't go right now

[13:33]don't do this right now don't read right now don't pray right

[13:37]now think do this this is something that's better he comes and

[13:41]he brings these thoughts was he comes and he whispers in the

[13:44]hearts of people so and when we seek refuge to allah what

[14:04]does it mean when i say i'm seeking refuge to allah when

[14:09]you seek refuge these refugees we hear why do they seek refuge

[14:13]why do they why do they become refugees because their lives are

[14:19]miserable because no one in the back home countries or wherever they

[14:22]were no one was able to help them no one was able

[14:25]to support them so they seek refuge they become refugees when we

[14:28]seek refuge to allah what does this mean this means i am

[14:33]understanding that no one can help me no one can support me

[14:37]no one can be there for me other than allah subhana talah

[14:41]it is only allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that could help me we

[14:45]are desperate without allah we will suffer without allah subhana ta'ala is

[14:51]there anyone that has helped is there anyone that can help us

[14:54]that is stronger than god no it is only allah subhanahu ta'ala

[14:59]when all others shut their doors in our face it is allah

[15:02]subhanahu wa ta'ala that's there for us it is allah that promises

[15:08]to answer us so why am i seeking refuge to why am

[15:13]i seeking refuge why because he is second malikinas third these are

[15:24]the three qualities it's because of these three qualities that we seek

[15:28]refuge to allah first of all what does mean means the lord

[15:35]is the lord lord means the caretaker the provider the sustainer the

[15:40]one who's always been there for you allah is the lord allah

[15:44]is the illah allah is the one who has been there for

[15:50]us ever since we were born ever since we were we were

[15:53]you know we came into this creation even before i came into

[15:58]this realm when i was a soul it was allah subhanahu ta'ala

[16:00]that was there it was allah that created and it's allah that's

[16:04]going to be with you when you leave this life and when

[16:06]you enter into the grave allah is the illah allah is the

[16:11]lord so i seek refuge to him because he is the lord

[16:15]because he is the one who takes care melikennas the master and

[16:23]the king and the dominion the one who has dominion in his

[16:31]hands that is allah subhanahu wa ta'ala he is who other than

[16:33]allah has power and authority over us so i seek refuge to

[16:38]him because he's the lord and because he's the malik and the

[16:42]lord and the creator and the god of everyone this is why

[16:51]we seek refuge to allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala now in the arabic language

[16:58]you could say rabb to a person you say rabbil bait the

[17:02]one who is the caretaker of the house they call this person

[17:08]rabbi bait or you could call a king malik the king in

[17:10]arabic you say malik for the king but is a word that

[17:15]belongs only to allah subhana you can't come and say this is

[17:20]the illah a king a powerful person a caretaker you can't say

[17:23]it this is the title that belongs exclusively to allah subhanahu ta'ala

[17:28]and that is the creator who is worthy of being worshiped that

[17:34]is from allah allah allah means god god is the creator god

[17:41]is the omnipotent god is the omniscient god is the one who

[17:46]is worthy of being worshipped is there anyone other than allah subhanahu

[17:52]ta'ala that is worthy of being worshipped no so this is why

[17:56]we turn to allah subhanahu ta'ala and we seek refuge to allah

[18:02]and why do we seek refuge from the evil and lurking whisper

[18:13]the whispers of shaytaan minshar the evil of the swas the one

[18:19]who is lurking he's hiding he doesn't come and reveal himself he

[18:23]hides and he comes and he tries to deceive you and then

[18:27]hides and goes away this is what shaytaan does and he whispers

[18:30]in your hearts the one who whispers in the hearts of people

[18:40]from among the jinn and the humankind now means the whisper because

[18:48]shaytan whispers in our hearts shaytaan tries to deceive people by whispering

[18:54]and telling people to go away from allah and he is the

[18:59]one who hides he whispers and then he comes and he goes

[19:03]he comes and he goes like a someone who has a negative

[19:09]agenda a bad agenda an evil agenda to come and hurt you

[19:13]he comes just to whisper just to bring fear just to bring

[19:16]animosity just to get you away from allah and then he goes

[19:22]away and means because he's not a clear enemy a lot of

[19:26]people they don't realize that shaitaan is their enemy that's why his

[19:29]he comes and he goes so and and his tactics are also

[19:36]in that way for example shaitaan doesn't come and tell you don't

[19:39]pray stop praying if you're a person who prays he doesn't come

[19:43]and tell you don't ever give charity he doesn't come and tell

[19:47]you don't ever go to the masjid he doesn't come and tell

[19:49]you don't ever read the quran what does he do he comes

[19:54]and he tells you right now don't pray pray later right now

[19:56]don't read quran you could recite quran later on right now don't

[20:01]practice right now don't do this you could do it later and

[20:04]this is the tactics of shaitaan and this is according to the

[20:11]hadith of imam jaffar he says that when this surah was when

[20:14]this verse was revealed this is the verse of istafar those who

[20:39]have done a sin and oppressed themselves they remember god and they

[20:45]repent they seek istighfar allah subhanahu wa to allah will forgive them

[20:49]and then woman who forgives the sins other than allah subhanahu wa

[20:54]ta'ala of and they don't insist on their sins imam said he

[20:57]says when this verse was revealed iblis lost it he says my

[21:05]job is to fool people and bring people away from god but

[21:07]now the door of repentance is open now people can repent so

[21:11]it's going to make my job more difficult i fool them they

[21:15]repent i fool them they repent i fool them they repent it's

[21:19]going to make my job exhausting so he gathers imam sadaq he

[21:24]says he gathered all of the shayateen all of the other satans

[21:32]and he gathered them and he tells them this verse was revealed

[21:35]and the door of repentance is open and god god is going

[21:39]to forgive these many adam these children of adam so what should

[21:42]we do to bring them away from god so the hadith says

[21:47]each one of them said something one of them said you know

[21:49]let's do such and such another said let's bring money another said

[21:53]woman another said this another said gambling another said each one said

[21:58]something he tell they keep saying something and he tells them you

[22:02]can't you can't no no no that's not the way until one

[22:07]of them by the name of allah and this is the name

[22:12]that is mentioned in the surah s imam he said this is

[22:19]the name of one of them i know what to do so

[22:25]he tells him what is it he says he says i'm going

[22:36]to promise them give them promises and hope until they fall in

[22:45]the sin and then i will make them forget to repent so

[22:52]promises and forgetfulness this is one of the tactics of shaytan he

[22:57]gives you hope for example you say you know what this year

[23:01]i'm going to change my life i'm going to let go of

[23:04]my bad habits i'm going to start praying i'm going to do

[23:07]this i'm going to go to hajj i'm going to you make

[23:12]plans shaytaan what does he do he doesn't come and tell you

[23:15]no no don't do that he comes and tells you yeah but

[23:18]next year this year is still you're still young next year you

[23:21]go to hajj and then and then you change your life and

[23:25]then everything will be good a lot of people they delay a

[23:29]lot of people they say for example next year i'll be able

[23:31]to do this i've heard many for example they say next year

[23:33]i will wear the hijab next year i'll start praying when i

[23:37]go to hajj when i get my act together when i'm done

[23:41]you know they keep delaying this is this is false hope from

[23:46]shaytaan this is false promises from shaytaan and then people fall in

[23:48]the sin and then once they fall in the sin they forget

[23:53]to repent they forget to say for allah they forget to turn

[23:57]to allah subhanahu wa so always he says that and he tells

[24:02]him so he tells him you go and you do this until

[24:07]the day of judgment so this is the job of he's hiding

[24:12]and he whispers in the heart he comes and he gives us

[24:17]false hope and he brings us away from allah subhanahu ta'ala so

[24:19]this is why we have to always seek refuge allah this is

[24:23]why we have to always say i turn to allah i seek

[24:28]refuge we turn to allah subhanahu ta'ala now my dear brothers and

[24:32]sisters some people bring this up is that during the month of

[24:35]ramadan the hadith of rasulallah says the satans are locked up so

[24:40]does this mean that people don't get fooled during the month of

[24:44]ramadan no some people they do get fooled during the month of

[24:47]ramadan this rasool allah is saying this as a metaphor meaning that

[24:50]the month of ramadan it creates an environment where people don't disobey

[24:56]allah but if some people are determined to disobey allah then no

[25:00]shaitaan will come to them if they invite shaytan shaitaan will come

[25:06]to them furthermore sometimes we sin because shaytaan comes to us other

[25:10]times it's not shaitaan it's the nafsal amara it's the desires the

[25:14]desires of the soul that come and scholars they say if you

[25:18]want to know the difference when is it the shaytan or when

[25:23]is it the nafs the soul the desires because we also have

[25:27]a side that you know pushes us to transgress and go again

[25:31]and please the desire he says the soul it goes over things

[25:35]that it usually goes to the things that the soul desires for

[25:41]example things that the soul always go to shaytaan will come and

[25:43]make you do something that you typically wouldn't even think of he

[25:47]will come and you know bring forth a crime a real crimes

[25:52]a big sin he'll come and he'll try to convince you to

[25:55]do that something that even your nufs when you're like in your

[25:58]at your same time when you're thinking you wouldn't even think of

[26:02]doing that for example allah subhanahu wa ta'ala describes some of the

[26:07]tactics of shaitaan in the quran one of them is fear allah

[26:12]says one of the things that shaytan does is he comes and

[26:23]he sparks fear in the hearts of people irrational fear and then

[26:26]allah says don't be afraid of shaytaan fear allah subhanahu ta'ala one

[26:31]of the things that the arabs during the time of the revelation

[26:34]of the quran and until today we see people doing they would

[26:39]go out of fear of poverty out of fear of you know

[26:42]not living a stable life they would kill their children as soon

[26:45]as they were born they would bury their children allah says don't

[26:53]kill your children out of fear of poverty we will provide for

[26:58]them just as we have provided for you this is a rational

[27:01]act this is no person says yeah let me kill the newborn

[27:05]let me kill a child let me abort a child you don't

[27:09]say this and you're saying mine that's when shaytan comes and tells

[27:14]people shaytaan comes and says yeah live enjoy your life don't don't

[27:16]you know don't deal with all this it's okay it's not a

[27:21]life and coming and telling people to abort and you know or

[27:25]kill a child so that is fear that fear comes from shaitaan

[27:28]another thing is instigating causing fights between people sometimes you find two

[27:35]brothers or parents or husband and wife they're very good with one

[27:37]another everything's smooth suddenly you see a fight takes place between them

[27:46]why sometimes shaytaan does that allah says and cause problems with what

[28:01]and cause hatred between you bill khamri sir philharmonic using alcohol and

[28:07]gambling and these are the tools of shaitaan alcohol and gambling and

[28:14]through these he brings you away from allah subhanahu ta'ala another tactic

[28:19]of shaytaan is that he beautifies the sins he comes and he

[28:24]makes a sin something that is ugly something that is horrible something

[28:28]very beautiful wasa typically those who commit sins they give themselves excuses

[28:36]they come and they say yeah it's okay you know we're doing

[28:39]it for this purpose for that purpose making making something ugly look

[28:43]very good another tactic of shaytan is making people forget fans makes

[29:01]people forget sometimes you say i want to do something good shaytaan

[29:04]will come and make you forget another as we mentioned is the

[29:09]promises of shaytan he tells people i promised you but i was

[29:33]lying to you god promised you god was being truthful you followed

[29:37]me so don't blame me blame yourself shaytaan will tell people that

[29:42]on the day of judgement now how do we seek refuge how

[29:47]do we stop and repel the evil tactics of shaitaan by seeking

[29:51]refuge to allah haram when you're listening to haram when you're about

[30:10]to say or do something and turn against it and turn away

[30:16]from it on those who have taqwa when shaytan comes to them

[30:29]they remember and then they will wake up they will be enlightened

[30:32]my dear brothers and sisters i ask allah wa ta'ala to bless

[30:37]you all and make us from those who recite the quran and

[30:41]understand the quran
