[0:05][Music] foreign [Music] this past week the whole muslim world the shia
[1:04]world commemorated the event of ashura the martyrdom of imam al-hussein alaihissalam
[1:12]and this was something that was being commemorated all over the world
[1:19]perhaps in every corner of the world in every country in every
[1:24]city there was a major list for imam al-hussein commemorating now this
[1:34]brings a lot of questions a lot of people they ask what
[1:41]is ashura imam al-hussein the grandson of the prophet was killed why
[1:45]was the grandson of the prophet killed what happened where we are
[1:53]commemorating one day in history one day that took place over a
[1:56]thousand four hundred years ago a thousand three hundred years ago we
[2:00]are treating it as if it just took place you know when
[2:06]when you see people crying and shedding tears and mourning imam and
[2:10]hussain alaihissalam if an outsider would come in and they would look
[2:15]at the shia at the mourners they see them crying they would
[2:21]think that some relative a friend a family has just passed away
[2:24]this is a secret there's a reason behind this where is all
[2:29]this love coming from where is all this devotion you know i've
[2:34]you know i've experienced i have a personal experience with this where
[2:38]you see many events they don't draw these crowds but the commemoration
[2:45]of imam and hussain draws thousands of people all of the mosques
[2:49]are packed all of the hussain are packed people they go out
[2:55]of their way in order to serve imam hussain in order to
[2:58]remember imam and hussain in order to shed tears for imam and
[3:03]hussain alaihissalam if any of you have gone for the arb indiara
[3:06]the the largest human gathering annual human gathering the largest pilgrimage that
[3:13]take pla takes place on earth annually is if any of you
[3:22]have gone you will be amazed when you see how people they
[3:25]go out of their way in order to serve the zoar of
[3:32]imam in order to feed people who are remembering and commemorating imam
[3:36]saying this is something that no one has no one why we
[3:44]don't remember you know with all our respect our faith and the
[3:50]other imams but they're not remembered in such a way what is
[3:55]the secret with imam and hussain why so inshallah tonight we want
[4:01]to address some of these questions some of these issues i'm going
[4:04]to talk a little bit and then we'll open it for further
[4:07]questions if any of you have the verse that i began with
[4:13]as the verse of prophet ibrahim alaihissalam allah subhanahu wa ta'ala describes
[4:21]the dua of prophet ibrahim in the reality in he placed them
[4:33]in mecca and there was no land there was no trees no
[4:37]people living in mecca at that time 5 000 years ago he
[4:58]says o i brought my progeny in this land in mecca because
[5:04]of salah because of nearness to god because of relationship building a
[5:12]bond with god because i want my progeny to be those who
[5:14]call people to god and allah answered him from the progeny of
[5:21]ibrahim are many of the prophets right thousands of prophets perhaps are
[5:26]from the progeny of prophet ibrahim but ibrahim he also does another
[5:31]dua he says he says i want the hearts of the people
[5:38]to be attracted to my progeny i want people's hearts even 5000
[5:46]years later however long later i want people's hearts to be attracted
[5:54]to my progeny and allah did answer the prophet today why is
[5:58]jesus loved why is moses loved why is rasool allah loved why
[6:03]are the imams of the albeit loved because of the dua of
[6:07]prophet and similarly with imam al-hussein so here one of the reasons
[6:22]that we are attracted to imam to imam and hussain is because
[6:28]there's a there's something behind the scenes it's something metaphysical we don't
[6:32]know why we don't know the secret this is one dimension you
[6:35]look at it and then there's also another dimension the physical the
[6:40]materialistic the the way that we can comprehend things and that was
[6:43]because imam and hussain sacrificed imam and hussain loved imam al-hussein gave
[6:47]so much therefore we love the one who loves we love the
[6:52]one who sacrifices we love the one who has given therefore we
[6:55]are attracted to the message of imam al-hussein and in addition to
[7:00]that the imams of the debate they insisted on their followers rasulallah
[7:05]to begin even before the martyrdom of imam hussain amir mini fatima
[7:11]zarah and then after the martyrdom of imam and hussain the imams
[7:15]one after the other they encourage their followers to shed tears for
[7:22]imam al-hussein hussain you can't cry you can't bring down a tear
[7:29]you bring your head down and you try to act like you're
[7:34]crying act like you're sad for imam and hussain writing poetry reciting
[7:40]poetry for the sake of imam and hussain alaihi these are all
[7:43]things that are encouraged by the italian we will give some examples
[7:49]inshaallah later about some of the poetry and some of the poets
[7:52]that recited in front of the imams of the advent now who
[7:58]killed imam hussain this is also another very important question we know
[8:01]what we know who who it was imam and hussain alaihi salaam
[8:06]he was killed in the year 61 after hijrah in the land
[8:11]of karbala on the tenth of muharram who killed the muhammad hussain
[8:14]this is a very important question today some people until today they
[8:20]try to shy away and hide from this question because this is
[8:24]a question that's going to expose many people and there are some
[8:30]that they would rather not expose some people because if they expose
[8:37]them then that means it's going to bring down the house of
[8:41]cards what do they call it it's going to it's going to
[8:43]expose other people who are the murderers of imam hussain the first
[8:51]and foremost the person first responsible for killing imam and hussain was
[8:57]yazid yazid he was he is the son of muawiyah he wants
[9:03]to be the khalifah of rasulallah and he writes a letter to
[9:10]the governor of medina telling him i want a general bail from
[9:15]people and i want a specific baiha from several individuals one of
[9:21]them was imam and hussain one was abdullah zubail one was abdullah
[9:24]he says i want a specific bay'a from these individuals the governor
[9:29]of medina he summons imam and hussein and rajab meaning six months
[9:34]more than six months before the day of ashura he summons imam
[9:42]and hussain alaihissalam and they try to corner imam hussain to give
[9:46]abaya to give allegiance to yazid whether yazid remains in power or
[10:03]does not remain in power so this is the key point here
[10:08]they wanted legitimacy from imam and hussain alaihissalam and the imam and
[10:13]hussain first he tries to you know tell them i can't give
[10:17]bail right now it's at night when allegiance should be given in
[10:21]front of people they say you have to give bay'a imam al-hussein
[10:24]he makes his stance very clear in nayazid so disrespects the laws
[10:42]of god and the laws of his prophet a person like me
[10:47]does not give back to a person like yazid not only i
[10:50]don't give ba'a anyone like me cannot give bay'a to a man
[10:56]like yazid so yazid he said either or death he tried to
[11:00]kill imam and hussain in madinah imam hussain escaped that night he
[11:03]escapes he goes to mecca because it was getting close to umrah
[11:07]season hajj season he goes he was waiting waiting for the hajj
[11:13]then he hears that the governor of mecca has received orders to
[11:19]kill imam and hussain even if he is holding on to the
[11:20]ka'ba to the drapes of the kaaba that same place that was
[11:27]built by ibrahim and allah whoever enters is safe you know when
[11:36]you go to mecca you're not allowed to take out a plant
[11:38]from the ground you're not allowed to hurt an animal an insect
[11:43]in mecca but the blood of imam and hussain was made halal
[11:46]in mecca so imam and hussain to protect the sanctity of the
[11:51]house of allah subhanahu ta'ala he decided to leave he leaves why
[11:56]did he leave he left to protect his life and second where
[12:00]was he headed he was headed to iraq why was he headed
[12:05]to iraq because as soon as muawiyah dies and yazid comes to
[12:13]power the people of kufa thousands of people in kufa they wrote
[12:16]letters to imam and hussain alaihissalam inviting him to come and lead
[12:22]a revolution and lead a revolt against bani umayya against yazid so
[12:30]they write a letter to imam and hussain and imam hussain had
[12:34]carried these letters with him he's carrying them with him and even
[12:37]on the day of he brought out these letters he brought out
[12:40]these letters these scrolls he brought them out in a huge box
[12:45]he brought them and he began to show them and read them
[12:48]to the people there and he began to call them one by
[12:51]one oh you had did you not give me it did you
[12:55]not write a letter for me you did you not write a
[12:56]letter for me you did you not write a letter for me
[12:59]they tell him yes we wrote a letter but now things have
[13:04]changed anyways the first person who killed imam hussain is responsible for
[13:10]the murder of imam hussain is yazid and then you have abaidillah
[13:15]bin ziyad who is the governor of kufa kufa but because the
[13:24]people of kufa khufa was a mixed city you had shias and
[13:28]you had non-shias you had people that were loyal to the bait
[13:32]and you had people who were not loyal to the advent they
[13:36]were loyal to the umayyads and then you had in between people
[13:39]people who were loyal to their pockets loyal to money they were
[13:44]following their own interests today some people they come and they say
[13:48]you shias you cry for imam and hussain you beat your chest
[13:53]for imam and hussain you know who killed the man who said
[13:56]it was the shias that killed them this is one of the
[14:00]misconceptions they say it was the shias that killed imam and hussain
[14:03]because not a single member in the army that fought imam and
[14:06]hussain on the day of ashura there was not one single member
[14:11]that came from sham they were all from kufa so they say
[14:14]you people of kufa kufa they wrote the letters to imam and
[14:18]hussain inviting him and then they came out fighting him so it
[14:21]was the shias that killed imam hussein first of all the refute
[14:25]to this is that no it was not the shias who killed
[14:28]him hussein there's a person who loves imam and hussain who follows
[14:32]him he's saying does it make sense that a person who is
[14:35]who's a a person who follows him i'm saying they're going to
[14:39]they're going to come and kill him of course not the real
[14:47]shia within kufa like al-mukhtar like several others they were all imprisoned
[14:55]tamar the close companion of amir and minin tamar was killed days
[15:02]before ashura he was crucified by obedience and many of the real
[15:08]staunch shias they were imprisoned the real shias they were imprisoned or
[15:12]they escaped like like muslims like several of those individuals they left
[15:19]they they managed to escape there were others who sat in their
[15:24]home they didn't go out to fight imam and hussain but because
[15:27]the authorities the authorities they came to power abdullah and ziyadi started
[15:31]arresting anyone who shows compassion and love to imam and hussain alaihissalam
[15:36]some of them they stayed in their homes some of them they
[15:40]were arrested and some of them they went out and they made
[15:42]it to karbala to defend imam al-hussein so you have kufa the
[15:50]demographics of kufa you have the enemies of the bait there were
[15:53]individuals who were enemies of the invade from day one like shimra
[15:55]nadal joshua like others then you have others who were the shia
[16:00]they were imprisoned and then you have a third category of people
[16:05]like hajjar bin abdur and others who wrote letters to imam and
[16:10]hussain asking him to come but then they fought imam was saying
[16:13]these individuals they were not shiah of imam they were not shia
[16:18]of the advent these individuals they thought imam and hussain is going
[16:23]to come he's going to lead a movement against yazid we're living
[16:28]in this town we have to ride the wave we have to
[16:32]ride the bandwagon if he's going to come he's going to establish
[16:35]a government and people did not think that a person like yazid
[16:39]is going to be able to actually you know be successful in
[16:45]in his movement and they saw they thought you know imam and
[16:50]hussain the grandson of the prophet people are going to be around
[16:52]him he's going to have a movement so let us sign up
[16:56]to be a part of this movement so that we will be
[16:59]the beneficiaries so that we will benefit so that we will have
[17:01]positions of power so that we all have positions of authority so
[17:05]people are there's a sign up list of writing letters to imam
[17:08]hussain let's also go and add our name to that so their
[17:13]their real intention was not because they were supporting imam and hussain
[17:17]their real intention was just to you know if imam and hussain
[17:22]is successful if he's able to lead a successful movement against yazid
[17:28]then they were a part of it they have signed up so
[17:31]they were trying to make money out of it they were trying
[17:34]to benefit out of it and you see that most of those
[17:38]people who fought imam and hussain they were doing it for dunya
[17:40]they were doing it for worldly pleasures yazid was doing it for
[17:47]power he assigns obedience who becomes the governor and he starts he
[17:51]declares martial law he kills muslims he begins to arrest anyone who
[17:57]is showing any support and he prepares and mobilizes an army to
[18:00]intercept imam and hussein he comes to um the third person um
[18:08]he tells him i want you to lead this army that is
[18:12]going to go and intercept imam and hussain and kill imam al-hussein
[18:17]now ahmad have been sad he is he goes back to the
[18:24]tribe of quraysh meaning that there is a there there's a long
[18:28]distance relative he is related in a way in a far way
[18:34]to imam hussain so when they first came and they gave him
[18:39]this off offer go and kill imam and hussain ahmad bin sad
[18:43]said no hussein is my cousin hussein is my family member i'm
[18:47]not going to go and fight him so they tell him okay
[18:52]you want to you want to fight him we are going to
[18:56]give you the authority of rei right is current day tehran they
[19:01]told him we're going to make you the governor of ray you
[19:04]want to be the governor of ray you have to go and
[19:08]kill him so he has words of poem he's a dialogue between
[19:11]him with himself he says should i leave the mulk they say
[19:41]meaning he doesn't even have faith they say that god created hell
[19:47]and heaven and we're going to be held accountable for [Music] if
[19:57]they are right in what they say then i will re i
[20:01]will repent in two years i will ask allah to forgive me
[20:04]in two years on the day of ashura imam hussain he tells
[20:09]um he tells him oh ahmad sad you're not going to enjoy
[20:13]the beauties of this dunya you're not going to have the wheat
[20:18]you're not going to be able to have the wheat of this
[20:22]dunya meaning you're not going to have anything and then he tells
[20:26]him and it's as if and i will tell you it's as
[20:29]if the kids will be playing with your head and this is
[20:33]exactly what happened within two years within a while al-mukhtar he comes
[20:37]and he revolts and he finds out ahmad bin sad where he
[20:41]is he goes and they behead him he's the army of muktar
[20:43]they beheld him while he was there and kufa and the kids
[20:48]they begin to play with his head they didn't enjoy the dunya
[20:52]so we said the first responsible was and then you have several
[21:01]others who were the who were the active murderers of imam and
[21:06]hussain alaihissalam like shimra nadal joshua who according to reports he was
[21:11]the man who beheaded imam hussain alaihissalam you have been anas he
[21:16]lodged a spear in the body of imam hussain alaihissalam which which
[21:22]was a fatal spear that was you know a fatal attack on
[21:26]imam and hussain and you have several others their names are mentioned
[21:32]in the maktan the crimes that they committed against imam and hussain
[21:37]so we answered why are we remembering imam and hussain we answered
[21:43]who who another very important question that we have to address is
[21:49]how do we know what happened to imam and hussain right now
[21:53]we're living 1400 years after ashura how do i know the khatib
[21:59]says then came out al-qasim and he said this then came out
[22:05]he says how do we know all of this we we have
[22:17]these reports that are recited in the maktal which have a lot
[22:22]of details in them how do we know all of this and
[22:25]this is a very important question this is a very important question
[22:33]that that we need to we need to address and why why
[22:39]how do we know all of these things so here we know
[22:46]a lot of these details from reporters that were there there were
[22:51]reporters that were there on the day of they recorded everything and
[22:56]this is how we know all of the events that took place
[23:03]on the day of ashland the reports that relate to us what
[23:16]happened on the day of they're all reported and they're all there
[23:21]because first of all you have survivors of the event you have
[23:28]survivors that were there and they survived the event of the day
[23:32]of ashura for example you have imamzalam two imams that were present
[23:39]and they survived on the day of abdi was not killed imam
[23:44]al-baqar was young therefore they they know um they relate to us
[23:54]the events that happen you have other members from the family of
[23:58]imam and hussain like say the zainab like sukena like passed away
[24:06]but you have others that survived the events of ashura from the
[24:13]family of ibm hussein furthermore you have some from the enemies of
[24:17]imam and hussain from the enemies there were enemies that were their
[24:20]job was to report what happened because they have to tell yazid
[24:23]what happened one of them we always in the maktal and when
[24:28]we remember the story of imam and hussain they mention his name
[24:32]he talks about he mentions the story for example with al-qasim he
[24:36]said we saw a young man coming out his face shining like
[24:41]the moon and then he says when i saw him coming out
[24:44]he says he went and he hugged his uncle imam hussain and
[24:49]they both began to cry al-qasim the son the son of imam
[24:56]al-hassan that reporter is a man by the name of hamidhi muslim
[24:58]or hamed he was a reporter there on the day of sitting
[25:03]on the side of the enemies he also reports for example after
[25:08]imam and hussain was killed he said we came and we brought
[25:13]water to the children of imam and hussain and we saw them
[25:15]they began to run and they were afraid of us and they
[25:21]attacked the tent and the camp of imam al-hussein so there were
[25:26]eyewitnesses on the day of ashura from the family of imam and
[25:29]hussain survivors from the enemies and there were individuals who lived who
[25:36]were there in karbala with imam and hussain they were injured but
[25:41]they survived the attacks not everyone was killed on the day of
[25:44]ashura not all of the men some of us we have the
[25:48]idea that every single man was killed no there were some survivors
[25:51]because after killing imam and hussain the army they come and they
[25:57]discover there are some people that are injured they still have life
[26:00]in them then they say some of them they didn't kill them
[26:03]they left them one of them is al hassan ibn hassan al
[26:08]hassan you know one of the sons of imam al-hassan perhaps the
[26:15]oldest son of imam and hassan his name is al-hasan ibn hassan
[26:19]on the day of he goes out he fights he's injured he
[26:23]falls to the ground he stays injured then imam and hussain is
[26:29]killed then they come they want to behead him then some of
[26:31]his mother's side of the family they come and they say no
[26:35]you already got what you wanted you wanted to kill hussain imam
[26:38]hussain you leave him his uncles from his mother's side they took
[26:43]him to kufa they healed his wounds and then several months later
[26:48]he goes to medina and he marries fatima the daughter of imam
[26:53]wanted the progeny of imam and hussain to continue through imam zainil
[27:00]abedin and the progeny of imam al-hassan to continue as well through
[27:03]his son his only surviving son al-hassan because you have other sons
[27:07]of imam and hassan like al-qasim like abdullah ibn hassan they were
[27:13]all killed on the day of ashura but this man al-hasan and
[27:16]he survived and then reporters they say there are there were other
[27:24]individuals for example a man by the name of akba ebin hussain
[27:38]and they say he was he was the servant of the wife
[27:43]of imam and hussain a person who was a helper he was
[27:47]with them on the day of ashura he was injured but then
[27:51]they took him as a captive to kufa and then they let
[27:54]him go he narrates some of their reports he says i saw
[27:56]imam hussain on the day of he woke up and such and
[28:00]such happened such and such took place another man by the name
[28:06]of al-murakka he was injured wanted to kill him and then his
[28:14]tribe they said no you already got what you wanted you don't
[28:16]have you leave our men another man this man his story is
[28:28]very interesting you know on the way to karbala imam al-hussein was
[28:33]recruiting followers he wasn't recruiting supporters so that they could fight for
[28:37]him imam and hussain from day one he didn't send them a
[28:41]wrong message from day one imam al-hussein knew that he was going
[28:47]to be killed he knew that he was going to be martyred
[28:50]he tells them come with me so that you attain the ultimate
[28:55]victory so this man this man of the haqq ibn abdullah he
[29:02]tells him saying i will support you as long as you have
[29:06]supporters but if you don't have any supporters if you don't have
[29:09]anyone fighting with you then i'm going to go there were other
[29:14]people who they rejected imam hussain they tell him we have family
[29:16]we have children we have things here and there and they they
[29:21]they made excuses to not stand with imam and hussain but there
[29:26]were others like this man of vahak he tells him i'm saying
[29:30]i will support you tells him okay i will accept that from
[29:32]you he says on the day of ashura i went and i
[29:36]put my horse in a tent so that the horse would not
[29:41]be hurt so that the horse would not be killed i put
[29:43]it in a tent meaning he had his escape ready he said
[29:47]i went i began to fight and imam and hussain does for
[29:51]him he says may allah not paralyze your arms imam hussain didn't
[29:56]do up for him because there's a reason imam hussain wants this
[29:59]man to live and tell the story he said i went i
[30:04]began to fight then once i saw everyone was killed i go
[30:07]to imam hussain i tell him i did what i told you
[30:12]that i was going to do i told you i was going
[30:14]to stay with you as long as you have supporters imam al-hussein
[30:16]tells him yes you did now go he goes and he rides
[30:21]his horse he had hid it in the tent he goes and
[30:23]he rides his horse and he goes several men chase him but
[30:28]then they're not able to catch him this man of the haqq
[30:33]he narrates the events that took place on the day of he
[30:36]tells us some of the events and these events are reported are
[30:41]are mentioned by reporters now the day of ashura took place it
[30:50]became not just the talk of the town it became the talk
[30:52]for the next several decades people are talking about the day of
[30:57]ashrae until now we're talking about so imagine people are definitely going
[30:59]to be talking about ashura and the events that took place on
[31:03]the day of ashura so now you have a group of people
[31:09]that begin reporting and documenting okay i heard from this eyewitness this
[31:12]is what he said i heard from her this is what she
[31:15]said they begin to write them one of the first to begin
[31:21]writing and reporting the maktal of imam hussain the first to write
[31:24]the maktal of imam and hussain was one of the men who
[31:28]was the companions of amir al-mu'min and the companion of imam al-hassan
[31:33]and the companion of imam and hussain by the name of al-asbach
[31:38]we mentioned his story when we when we remember the martyrdom of
[31:45]amir al-mata he walked in on imam ali and he saw imam
[31:47]ali while he was laying and when imam ali was buried he
[31:51]was one of those who attended the burial of amir al mu'min
[31:56]he writes the first maktel for imam and hussain has not survived
[32:06]but then you have another person who comes after him who was
[32:10]from the companions of imam al-baqara and imam sadiq he dies year
[32:22]157 after hijra imam hussain dies it was killed year 61 after
[32:26]hijrah so this man abu mikhnaf he lives to the time of
[32:31]imam al-baqarah and imam sadiq so he writes the maktal today many
[32:38]of the reports of the maktal of imam and hussain are brought
[32:43]to us through this man the maktan of abu mukhnaf and you
[32:46]still have it you could google it becomes a reliable reporter because
[32:55]he heard from eyewitnesses he heard from individuals who survived ashura and
[33:01]they become eyewitnesses and abu mikhnafi writes from them he writes the
[33:05]maktal from them and one of the sunni scholars for example he
[33:14]writes many pages probably 50 60 pages on on imam hussain he
[33:19]reports from abu mahnev so sunni and shia scholars report from the
[33:26]maktal of and this is how we have many of the reports
[33:32]about what happened on the day of ashora now another very important
[33:41]point is the is the remembrance of imam al-hussein the remembrance of
[33:49]imam and hussain in such a way where we recite it in
[33:53]poetry and you raise your voice and there's crying and they're shedding
[33:56]tears for imam and hussain where did this come from this was
[34:00]also inspired by rasulallah who was the first to cry for imam
[34:07]and hussain and it was also inspired by those who came after
[34:14]the event of ashura imam he was the first to cry for
[34:18]imam and hussain say the zainab the first to make a scene
[34:20]she goes out she sees the mutilated body of imam and hussein
[34:25]and she makes a scene she begins crying in front of everyone
[34:29]muhammad s she makes the scene crying for imam hussain alaihissalam and
[34:41]then the imams one after the other imam al-bakr imam all of
[34:51]the imams they insist on their followers to visit the grave of
[34:57]imam hussain we have hundreds of reliable reports of the imams telling
[35:02]people go and visit the grave of imam and hussain and also
[35:08]you have you have the imams encouraging people to recite poetry and
[35:17]lament the the martyrdom of imam al-hussein one of those individuals by
[35:27]the name of abu harun al-makhouf i want you to recite poetry
[35:43]and praise eulogizing what happened to imam and hussain he begins to
[35:53]recite um he says go and pass over the corpse of imam
[36:15]al-hussein and see um and speak to the mutilated body and the
[36:24]bones of imam and hussain alaihissalam no life life is not worth
[36:34]living after what happened to the bones to the body of imam
[36:38]and hussain imam imam he tells him tell me more may allah
[36:45]have mercy on you recite more so he begins to speak to
[36:53]the mother of imam a partition and he begins to hear the
[37:11]louds crying of the ladies of the family of imam and who
[37:13]say nothing you have another very important famous and he recites a
[37:33]very famous poem to the imam about imam al-hussein he recites it
[37:39]he tells the imam he goes all the way to quran from
[37:43]kufa he goes all the way to quran and he tells the
[37:47]imam i wrote a poem for imam al-hussein and i want to
[37:52]recite it for you so the imam tells him recite it for
[37:58]me and he recites his famous poem and then he begins to
[38:03]talk about imam and hussain alaihissalam and then the imam accepts this
[38:21]poem and he praises debbie and this poem that what he recited
[38:30]in front of imam radha becomes very famous people shias all over
[38:34]the muslim world they begin to memorize it they begin to recite
[38:38]the poetry of and praise of imam hussain and giving condolences to
[38:47]fatima to zarah about the martyrdom of imam and hussain alaihissalam devil
[38:51]is ready to leave and i'll conclude with the story devin is
[38:56]ready to leave imam radha imam he comes and he brings him
[39:01]he brings him one hundred dinars one hundred dinars that had the
[39:08]stamp of imam on it you know imam allah because he became
[39:12]the crown prince during the time of moon so there was a
[39:15]the the dinar had the name of imam on it within the
[39:22]muslim world at that time imam allah he gives him one hundred
[39:25]dinars he says o my master i didn't recite this poetry for
[39:29]the sake of the money imam tells him take it you will
[39:34]need it you're going to need it and then dabbin says oh
[39:38]my master i have one thing to ask you i want you
[39:42]to give me your jubba you know this is a jubba what
[39:48]you're wearing he says i want you to give me your jubba
[39:50]that you prayed and that touched your body when you were praying
[39:54]so imam because he recited a poem in praise of imam and
[40:04]hussain alaihissalam and by the way at that time when you recite
[40:08]poem and praise of imam saying you're putting your life on the
[40:11]line because you're going to tell the whole world i am with
[40:14]imam hussain and that means you're going to be you're going to
[40:16]be on the hit list of the government and this is why
[40:19]he says i i lived for 20 years or i don't remember
[40:26]40 years or 20 years where the where the piece of wood
[40:29]that crucifies me is carried on my shoulder meaning that the i
[40:34]was the death the death sentence had already been passed for bill
[40:38]because of that poem so imam radha he goes in his room
[40:43]he brings out a jubba an outfit he said i've prayed in
[40:50]this one thousand days and nights one thousand days and nights i
[40:55]was wearing this while i was praying solatilly he gives a tattoo
[41:00]to [Music] be ready to go back to arak ready to go
[41:05]back to kufa he goes he gets in a caravan he is
[41:13]in the caravan suddenly the caravan is intercepted by thieves thieves they're
[41:19]coming and they're they want to steal the merchandise of the caravan
[41:23]marauders you know you have pirates and then you have marauders and
[41:27]on land so he said that he the whole time he's thinking
[41:34]this jubba of that imam gave me is going to get stolen
[41:35]that's it i'm going to lose it so he said while the
[41:41]thief there's a gang of them one of them he's coming and
[41:43]he's stealing from the caravan he begins to recite words of poetry
[41:51]he begins to say him david tells him where did you hear
[42:01]that from you know whose poem this is this is the poem
[42:04]of debbie the man he's reciting the poem of debbie while he's
[42:10]stealing from the camp because he's talking about the bait he's saying
[42:20]others they have it's divided amongst others [Music] and their hands from
[42:27]what they own are empty so the thief he memorized the poem
[42:34]of devil now he's stealing from devil and he begins to recite
[42:37]that line of the poem table tells him this is my poem
[42:41]the man tells him who are you he says do you know
[42:46]who's po who's poetry you're reciting the man says yes this is
[42:50]the poem of the good man the pious man he tells him
[42:56]i am i am so he goes and he talks to the
[43:03]chief they come for the sake of devil they come and they
[43:05]say this whole caravan you take your belongings and you could go
[43:08]because of that so that bill he goes to um on his
[43:16]way on his way to iraq he has to pass through home
[43:18]he goes through and while he's in the chiefs and the scholars
[43:25]they're there a lot of them are shira they come and they
[43:26]tell him tell us your story with him so he tells them
[43:30]i sat with him and he told me to recite this poem
[43:34]and i began to recite and the imam began to cry and
[43:36]he tells me to recite more and he began to cry and
[43:41]he gave me he gave me the money the 100 dinars and
[43:45]he also gave me his jubba as soon as some of those
[43:51]people around they heard that devil has the jubba of the imam
[43:53]they tell him we'll buy it from you we'll buy it we'll
[43:57]give you 100 100 one or double you know ten times more
[44:03]what he has he had one hundred dinars they tell him we'll
[44:07]give you one thousand dinars or ten thousand dinars he says no
[44:10]way i will never sell that this is this is something that
[44:15]is it has more value than anything i'm never going to sell
[44:18]that to you they tell him okay he leaves some of those
[44:21]ignorant people from the shia they love the imam they go and
[44:27]they attack they steal the jubba the outfit they steal it and
[44:31]they cut it up into pieces into small pieces and they distribute
[44:37]it amongst themselves he becomes very upset he goes back to the
[44:41]chiefs of kong he tells them he tells them look what they
[44:48]did give me back give me back my belongings they tell him
[44:50]listen right now it's too late it's already cut up into pieces
[44:55]we'll give you one small piece if you want we'll give you
[44:57]one small piece of it he takes that piece and he goes
[45:00]back to kufa he arrives to kufa he sees that his house
[45:03]has been stolen all of the furniture and everything all of his
[45:08]belongings they had been stolen and he has one hundred dinars that
[45:14]the imam alaihissalam gave him these 100 dinars as we said they
[45:17]were stamped by the stamp of imam some of the shias and
[45:20]kufa they find out that this is his house has been stolen
[45:24]so they come and they tell him for each dinar will give
[45:30]you will give you ten times the durohan so he gave he
[45:33]sold the hundred dinars and they gave him ten thousand or a
[45:39]hundred thousand dirhams with that he was able to refurnish his house
[45:43]and the imam alayhi is the money he tells him you're going
[45:48]to need it you're going to need it at one point so
[45:50]this is the story of bill and he is one example of
[45:58]how the imams alaham encourage people to recite poetry for the sake
[46:04]of imam al-hussein i'm going to pause here if anyone has any
[46:11]questions any comments anything that i did not address feel free to
[46:15]ask yes but [Music] could things have been different yes things could
[46:43]have been different if certain individuals would have followed the order of
[46:49]rasulallah and obeyed the imams of their time things would have been
[46:56]different but the reality you know we're saying the first who killed
[47:00]imam and hussain was yazid and shimmer and um and all these
[47:06]individuals but who brought a person like yazid to power who caused
[47:09]a man like yazid to come to power yazid was a person
[47:14]his grandmother she ate at the liver of hamza his father and
[47:18]his grandfather they were fighting all the way they fought in badr
[47:25]and and all the way until the conquest of mecca they were
[47:30]against the prophets what would a per a family like that how
[47:32]could they come into power ascend to the seats of power it
[47:38]goes back you keep going back and going back and going back
[47:42]until you reach the event this is why we make such a
[47:47]big deal about the imam of imam ali some people say you
[47:48]know you shia as you make such a big deal no it's
[47:52]not a big deal because if imam ali had been followed then
[47:56]none of this would have happened fatima to zarat would not have
[48:01]been attacked her son would not have been killed the house of
[48:04]fatima tazhara would not have been the her door would not have
[48:06]been set on fire and none of this none of these individuals
[48:10]would have come to power who brought yazid put him in power
[48:15]who brought muhammad to power mahawya came to power during the qadhafi
[48:19]of the second khalif he came and he appointed him as the
[48:23]governor of damascus then uthman comes to power and he empowers beni
[48:28]umayyah he brings the umayyads individuals like marwan his father the father
[48:38]of marwan abner he was kicked out of mecca he was kicked
[48:42]out of madinah rasool allah you know so merciful so compassionate but
[48:46]he kicked out the father of marwan he tells him get out
[48:50]of here i don't want to see you in mecca anymore in
[48:51]madina anymore uthman comes to power he brings al-haqam and he also
[48:57]places marwan in the seats of power so individuals disobeyed the prophet
[49:05]from day one then it led to imam and hussain being killed
[49:10]yes anyone else yes yeah it says after hussein was killed years
[49:20]later and a few of the killers were killed slash avenged by
[49:24]a man named how did he assume power and lead a group
[49:28]large enough to overthrow so there were two movements that rose to
[49:36]avenge imam and hussain alaihissalam after karbala one was the movement of
[49:46]tawabin at tawabin where a group of individuals in kufa they were
[49:50]those who stayed in their homes or those who were in prison
[49:52]remember we said there was a group that went out to fight
[49:57]imam hussein there was a group that left their houses and to
[49:59]fight with imam and hussain there was a group that were arrested
[50:04]and there was a group that sat in their home they said
[50:05]you know what nothing is in our hand we can't do anything
[50:08]and they started making up excuses they stayed home those group they
[50:14]became in the thousands over six thousand of them or so they
[50:17]were called meaning the repenters they began a movement they said listen
[50:24]we're going to get killed we don't care even if we're going
[50:28]to get killed we want to we want to fight abaddon's they
[50:34]go to the grave of imam and hussain they stay there for
[50:38]about three days they hold the medullas they cry they weep over
[50:41]the grave of abba abdullah and then they declare that they're turning
[50:44]against then in one place in iraq he comes with his army
[50:54]and he kills them all in one day they were all killed
[50:58]at tawabian movement he said i'm not going to be with the
[51:03]tawabi because they're suicidal because they just want to go and they
[51:10]feel regret for what happened and they don't care they don't want
[51:13]to establish something and the tawab they weren't able they weren't able
[51:18]to seek vengeance for the martyrdom of amendment hussein they they were
[51:23]they just went there in front of the army and they all
[51:25]got killed so al-mukhtar he doesn't join the tawabin he says no
[51:28]i'm not going to join the tawapin he allows he was in
[51:34]prison then he uses his political powers he is for example his
[51:39]wife she's related to abdullah abdullah ibn umar he writes a letter
[51:50]to to yazid saying free al-mukhtar and then he gathers people here
[51:53]and there and his slogan becomes hussein we have to seek vengeance
[52:02]we're not just going to go and be remorseful and cry until
[52:05]we get killed no we have to have an active movement and
[52:09]we're going to seek vengeance for the murders of imam hussain and
[52:12]this is exactly what he did he ruled for a very short
[52:17]time probably around 18 months and we believe that there was a
[52:22]correspondence between him and muhammad muhammad is the brother of imam hussain
[52:28]the son of imam ali muhammad abner he has the green light
[52:32]from the imam of his time imam zayn allah abbadin he was
[52:38]leading and giving orders to muhammad and to others but from behind
[52:46]the scenes so the one who was actually corresponding with uh al-mukhtar
[52:52]was muhammad ibn hanafiya he tells him yes revolt do this do
[52:56]that do this he gathers a group of people and benny umayyah
[53:00]after the murder of imam hussain they began to collapse because yazid
[53:04]he was you know he ruled for three years the first year
[53:08]he killed imam and hussain the second year he sacked the city
[53:11]of madinah the city of rasulallah in the third the third year
[53:14]he attacked the kaaba he catapulted the kaaba the kaaba was destroyed
[53:19]and burned because of he doesn't care so many of the muslims
[53:25]those who are in the martyrdom became a wake-up call for many
[53:30]of these people so [Music] he begins a movement and he begins
[53:38]to hunt down every single one of those people who were who
[53:42]were participated in the and they martyrdom of imam hussain shimrap nadal
[53:46]joshua he escapes he sends a group of people after him he
[53:51]goes and they kill him i'm sad sad he comes to al-mukhtar
[53:56]he tells him please give me safety and tells him i will
[54:03]give you safety as long as as long as you don't do
[54:10]anything in the arabic language if you don't say aslan meaning as
[54:14]long as you don't use the bathroom so he understood it that
[54:19]as long as you don't do anything you're safe but was telling
[54:22]him as long as you don't use the bathroom you're safe so
[54:26]the next day the next day he sends a group of people
[54:34]he along with his son they ride uh they ride a horse
[54:38]or a mule or whatever it is and he leaves he escapes
[54:45]from kufa but he falls asleep while the mule or the horse
[54:49]was moving while he was sleeping the horse comes back all the
[54:52]way to mukhtar they catch him and they kill him right there
[54:56]and then he says he he kills him ahmad bin sad and
[55:01]his son because his son also participated in karbala and he said
[55:04]this is for hussain and this is for ali ibn hussain but
[55:08]they are not equal to one another they're not equal to one
[55:12]another imam and hussain and ali hussain are not equal to his
[55:16]rotten son but he said he said this is this is for
[55:21]hussain and this is for adi and hussain he captures many of
[55:27]them several of those people who participated in the murder of imam
[55:32]hussain and he sought vengeance for them but we believe that the
[55:35]real vengeance the real vengeance will come with imam and mahdi and
[55:41]this is why there's a red flag over the dome of you
[55:47]know in the arab culture if someone is killed and no one
[55:52]has sought vengeance for this person the family would put a red
[55:57]flag over that person's house meaning this person was killed and no
[56:01]one has sought vengeance for this person there's still a red flag
[56:06]over the grave of abba abdullah why because imam and mahdi is
[56:12]going to uproot all of the evil that caused and legitimized and
[56:18]allowed individuals to come to power and cause the crimes that were
[56:22]committed on the day of ashura it's not just individuals the day
[56:28]of ashura was a battle of ideologies it wasn't just a battle
[56:32]on land in person it was a battle of ideologies and the
[56:36]day the ideology of imam and hussain and imam and mahdi prevails
[56:42]that is the day real vengeance would have been gotten for imam
[56:46]hussain al-islam and that is going to happen in sha allah through
[56:49]imam al-mahdi allah yes brother you spoke about poetry so when did
[56:58]modern day latinas start like when when did people start banging on
[57:04]their chest when did the currents form yes this is a good
[57:08]question when did the modern day latimia and heading on the chest
[57:11]and all of that come out see there are some types of
[57:20]lamenting like crying that you know it took place during rasulullah and
[57:24]the imams of the albeit and others and then there is the
[57:28]the hitting on the face on the head we have a general
[57:34]rule in islam that jazza if someone passes away if your relative
[57:37]passes away you're not allowed to do any of that stuff it's
[57:42]haram because we have to say in your own surrender to god
[57:46]but the imams of the albeit they say except for imam hussain
[57:54]it is allowed and how do we know that first of all
[57:56]we have the hadith of the imam saying this all the jazz
[58:01]haram extensive mourning is forbidden except for imam hussain and then we
[58:06]have proofs for example foreign if you were there to see imam
[58:26]hussain you would have hit your cheeks you would have hit yourself
[58:30]if you see your son being killed like that imam allah he
[58:36]heard him saying that he doesn't tell him no no no this
[58:40]is haram you shouldn't say anything like that we have one of
[58:44]the hajja as imam the words of the imam and takarir imam
[58:48]if the imam saw you doing something and he doesn't tell you
[58:51]this is haram he stays quiet that means it's halal because the
[58:56]imam has a what if everyone's quiet the imam has to say
[59:00]this is haram he has to speak out so and he encourages
[59:19]and he allows devil to say that so the latter was something
[59:22]that was practiced and it's a sign of it's a sign of
[59:26]mourning it's a sign of grief it's a sign of showing sadness
[59:35]for something this was the way that the arabs at that time
[59:38]and many cultures they would show their mourning and islam allows people
[59:42]to express their culture now people why are they clapping when they're
[59:45]happy why do they clap do you tell people why are you
[59:50]clapping it's haram why are you clapping did the prophet clap no
[59:53]the prophet didn't clap but does islam allow people to express emotions
[59:58]yeah clapping is a way of expressing happiness is a way of
[60:03]expressing sadness this is according to the culture of the arabs and
[60:07]many other cultures and the cultures during the time of the imam
[60:09]and until now it's a way of showing grief so islam doesn't
[60:14]allow that yes you're not supposed to hurt yourself you're not supposed
[60:19]to cause harm to yourself all scholars say it's haram to cause
[60:22]harm to yourself yeah yes brother some people like this is a
[60:56]controversial issue different scholars have allowed it others have not allowed it
[61:00]and it goes back to the view of the merger of is
[61:04]this cause is this causing harm or is this not causing harm
[61:08]because here i'm just speaking from a perspective not to show whether
[61:13]i support or don't support from a feki perspective are you allowed
[61:19]to for example make yourself bleed can i go and draw blood
[61:23]no can i go to the nurse and draw blood yeah no
[61:29]one says it's haram to do that so just making myself bleed
[61:33]is not necessarily haram can i come and cut off my hand
[61:39]please say answer me yes no good good alhamdulillah so you're not
[61:46]allowed to hurt yourself in that way that is causing harm but
[61:52]making yourself bleed is not always you know they have the the
[61:54]arab cultures you know for example other cultures the hijab what do
[61:58]they call it the cupping is it called the cupping yeah bloodletting
[62:04]so this is also something that is regarded as okay so not
[62:11]to not to get in you know say i support this or
[62:15]i don't support this these are different views of different scholars some
[62:19]they say it's halal now is it mustahab is it not this
[62:23]is a different issue so it all goes back to the view
[62:26]of whether they see it as self-harm or they do not see
[62:30]a self-harm anyone else yes exactly exactly yes as he said the
[63:11]quran mentions the wife of ibrahim when the angels tell her you're
[63:14]going to you're pregnant she stopped her face the quran doesn't say
[63:17]it's it's an expression of emotions yes brother i think this is
[63:29]an important question so why is it that the others said like
[63:35]our brothers and sisters and the other sect and that they don't
[63:40]they always try to ignore the story of imam hussain and they
[63:45]actually just tried to ignore the whole entire story of janus and
[63:48]on the 12 imams anytime you talk about for example [Music] they
[63:57]say man it's a myth i'm talking about public they're public not
[64:03]their scholars because their scholars is already like trying to always find
[64:07]excuses not to talk about this or not to even bring up
[64:13]this conflict so what do you think is the reason so first
[64:19]of all not all sunnis ignore the tragedy of imam hussain i
[64:23]know many sunnis that participate they shut tears they are very involved
[64:32]and they talk about imam hussain yes there are some who are
[64:38]extremists they come and they s they take the side of yazid
[64:40]over the side of the bait and they try to justify what
[64:45]yazid did and they tried to bl throw the blame on ziyad
[64:50]and not yazid or um and not yazid and this comes to
[64:56]a hatred that some people have for the uh debate because you
[65:01]know as we mentioned earlier if you're going to hold yazid accountable
[65:05]that means you're going to have to hold muhawi accountable and then
[65:09]that means you're going to have to hold the one who empowered
[65:13]muhammad accountable so they say you know what let's just leave this
[65:17]let's just not talk about it it's more convenient i'm talking about
[65:21]those who ignore this issue but then there are many who say
[65:27]no yazid was faster yazid what he did was wrong he killed
[65:30]the grandson of the prophet and we have to have a stance
[65:33]against this so it goes back to people's understandings people's convictions that
[65:37]they have yes the father of his name is um i don't
[65:57]believe he is cursed in the ziada i don't believe so so
[66:03]um obey the law he's the son of ziad but ziyad they
[66:06]call him ziad the son of his dad imagine that yes okay
[66:13]i think we're going to conclude here there's pizza for all of
[66:21]you eat it with the niyyah of tabarrok for the barakah of
[66:24]the majority of imam hussain alhamdulillah was foreign
