Nahjul Balagha is a unique book attributed to the commander of the faithful Imam Ali (A.S.), described as a book exploding with knowledge, flowing with wisdom and bursting with eloquence, encompassing words that are below the Word of the Creator, but over and above the words of the creation as Ibn Abi Al-Hadid stated. Sayed Mohammed Baqer Al-Qazwini examines this amazing book by discussing its multi-dimensional significance and high authenticity, whilst shedding some light on the book's compiler, and refuting the doubts cast by haters who hopelessly sought to belittle the value and importance of this book. ______________________________________________________________ Al-Rasoul Islamic Society | The Month of Ramadan 1437 - 2016

[0:01][Music] I begin in the name of the almighty God, the compassionate,
[0:17]the merciful, the one who has created everything in utmost perfection.
[0:24]And may the peace and blessings of the Almighty God be upon
[0:28]his pure and beloved messenger, the peak of humanity, the holy prophet
[0:38]Muhammad Sam.
[0:45]And may God's peace and blessings be upon the commander of the
[0:49]faithful, the Im of the pious ones, Alm and the pure progeny
[1:02]of the especially the leader of our time, the awaited savior almi.
[1:11]May Allah hasten his reappearance and make us all amongst his sincere
[1:17]and dedicated servants.
[1:23]The famous scholar had an amazing description which only fits one book
[1:36]in the history of humankind.
[1:38]Abd in describing this amazing book, this treasure, this gem, he says
[1:53]the words that you find in this book, they are below the
[2:00]words of the creator, but above the words of the created.
[2:03]They're below God's word.
[2:07]This book does not surpass the Holy Quran.
[2:08]The Holy Quran, the word of God is above it undoubtedly.
[2:13]However, no other book in history comes close to it, can come
[2:19]near this amazing book.
[2:21]It's truly a powerful book.
[2:26]When you examine this amazing book, you see that throughout history, this
[2:32]book has mesmerized the intellect.
[2:35]This book explodes with knowledge.
[2:40]It flows with wisdom.
[2:44]This book added new dimensions to eloquence, to philosophy, to knowledge, to
[2:58]humanity, to politics, to science, to the economy.
[3:00]It added dimensions to our lives in every aspect.
[3:06]This book is the peak of eloquence.
[3:12]This amazing book which has been oppressed by Muslims throughout history.
[3:18]I have not seen a nation which oppresses its own treasures and
[3:26]does not take advantage of them like our nation.
[3:28]We have a gem that Allah subhana ta has given us but
[3:35]we have mistreated this gem especially we the followers of how have
[3:40]we treated let's ask ourselves tonight as we are commemorating the author
[3:49]of imbalam let's ask ourselves how much do we know about this
[3:58]book.
[3:59]Honestly, do I do I not consider myself to be a follower
[4:05]of Ali?
[4:07]How much do I know about this amazing book which has preserved
[4:12]the legacy and the thought of Im Ali?
[4:16]For me, unfortunately, you will realize that we do not know much
[4:20]about we just know it's a nice eloquent poetic book in Arabic
[4:24]and that's it.
[4:26]We have no clue about its speeches, about its letters, the meaning
[4:32]of these wonderful phrases and maxims and short statements in most of
[4:37]us are clueless.
[4:38]Unfortunately, you know, the problem of the Muslim world is that we
[4:43]barely know the holy Quran, the book of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
[4:47]let alone a book like in honor of the commander of the
[4:52]faithful Imam.
[4:55]This year I have dedicated a series of five speeches in honor
[5:02]of to explore this amazing book.
[5:08]Tonight we shall examine the significance and the authenticity of Bala.
[5:14]In the second night we shall explore the features of the types
[5:20]of speeches that we have in.
[5:22]On a third night, we will examine the humanity that we learned
[5:28]from Imam.
[5:31]On the fourth night, we shall examine as a case study, as
[5:40]an example of the literary gems of the speech that describes to
[5:47]us the pious ones that gives us attributes of the pious ones.
[5:51]And on the fifth night we shall examine the Quran in how
[6:00]did Ali describe to us the holy Quran.
[6:05]We shall examine that on the third night of by the will
[6:08]of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[6:10]Tonight let's examine the authenticity of and its significance because there are
[6:18]some ignorant ones throughout history even though they consider themselves scholars they
[6:23]have doubted the authenticity of this book.
[6:26]Some scholars in history from other schools of thought they have come
[6:29]and said what this book does not belong to.
[6:34]This was forged after him.
[6:38]We do not have any evidence that these speeches, these wonderful statements
[6:43]actually belong to.
[6:45]It is very important for us to address this objection.
[6:50]Let's begin by analyzing the significance of why is this book so
[6:56]important.
[6:59]This book is so important that past scholars, our scholars of the
[7:07]past, they would memorize the entire book of just as they would
[7:13]memorize the holy Quran.
[7:13]That's how important it was.
[7:16]There are three reasons primary reasons why is a significant book.
[7:22]Number one is an extremely important book and significant book because it
[7:32]represents the correct belief system the correct is that intimate knowledge that
[7:36]you have of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that you have about your
[7:43]faith is what allows you to know who you are and to
[7:47]know who your lord is and to see your destination which is
[7:51]the day of judgment.
[7:53]If you grab any book, it could be a very good book,
[7:57]you're never 100% sure that what you're being told in this book
[8:03]is authentic.
[8:02]It's real.
[8:04]It's correct.
[8:03]Except the Holy Quran, of course.
[8:07]But with any other book, you may have doubts.
[8:08]The author of this book, is he giving me pure information, beneficial
[8:16]information?
[8:17]How do I know this information is 100% correct?
[8:20]There is only one book that you're sure besides the holy Quran
[8:26]of course that you're sure 100% you are getting the true you
[8:30]are getting the knowledge from a true source you are getting the
[8:37]knowledge from the gate of the city of knowledge didn't the prophet
[8:39]say I am the city of knowledge and ali is the gate
[8:44]you are getting the knowledge from the gate of that city of
[8:50]knowledge you are getting the knowledge knowledge from the door of God's
[8:58]wisdom.
[8:56]That's you're 100% sure that you're dealing with pure facts with a
[9:04]pure source just like the pure spring water.
[9:06]It has no pollutants, no contamination in it.
[9:14]This is to give you an example of how amazing and concise
[9:19]this wonderful book is.
[9:21]Imam was once asked describe to ushed this oneness in Allah subhana
[9:34]wa ta'ala describe to us what is it and tell us what
[9:38]is justice of God because at that time there were some ignorant
[9:42]Muslims who would give physical qualities to God and they would say
[9:51]on top of that that God is the one who creates our
[9:54]actions.
[9:55]When a criminal commits a crime or a sinner commits a sin,
[10:01]it's actually God who's behind it because God creates everything and he
[10:04]creates our actions and sins.
[10:06]So, it's God who's actually responsible.
[10:08]And they will misuse verses of the Quran to try to prove
[10:13]this wrong point.
[10:14]Imam was asked Subhan Allah in two words brothers and sisters gives
[10:26]us the proper and I challenge anyone in history bring me one
[10:30]philosopher one scholar in history who can tell you what is and
[10:37]what justice is using two words who other than that you know
[10:43]what the imam says he says at this is what two words
[10:55]and in the Arabic language they sound so similar.
[11:01]They even rhyme with each other.
[11:02]The Imisam says means do not subject God to the limits of
[11:10]your imagination.
[11:10]Whenever you subject God to the limits of your imagination, that's not
[11:16]to because you've made God limited.
[11:21]Many of us, we picture God, right?
[11:24]We have this mental image of Allah.
[11:27]The Imam is telling us, don't ever limit God with your vast
[11:30]imagination.
[11:31]We have a vast imagination.
[11:32]Sometimes even we have a wild imagination, right?
[11:36]The IM says never limit God and subject him to your limited
[11:42]imagination because anything that you picture in your mind or if you
[11:49]give physical qualities to God that's not God subhan Allah in one
[11:52]word who can do that besides the justice of Allah subhana wa
[11:59]ta'ala means that you do not lay any blame on God.
[12:04]You're responsible for your actions.
[12:06]Don't play any lame blame on Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[12:11]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has given you free will.
[12:12]Yes, certain factors God has predetermined for you.
[12:16]But in the end, Allah subhana wa ta'ala has given you free
[12:22]will.
[12:23]Do not lay any blame on him.
[12:25]Within two words, we see the imam just destroys these other incorrect
[12:32]beliefs.
[12:30]The those who ascribed physical qualities to God and those who said
[12:40]that were forced Allah subhana wa ta'ala is the one who creates
[12:43]our actions and we have no control over action our actions who
[12:47]besides can do that brothers and sisters but we're not aware of
[12:55]that how many of us have taken the time to open this
[12:58]wonderful book and reflect on You know these small words the book
[13:05]is filled with them.
[13:06]You have hundreds and hundreds and thousands of such short concise amazing
[13:13]statements which summarize to you the religion of Islam.
[13:17]Therefore, number one is extremely important because it represents the correct.
[13:22]If you want the correct in Allah subhana wa ta and your
[13:28]religion and even to understand life in general, go to it's the
[13:31]purest source you can find after the holy Quran.
[13:38]Number two represents our correct history.
[13:42]You know a lot of the history that we have unfortunately is
[13:47]not an accurate history.
[13:48]First of all the history that we have the Muslim history that
[13:54]we have was written many decades after the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
[14:00]They say that the oldest historian is who he came what nearly
[14:03]a century after the prophet nearly 100 years after the prophet.
[14:08]That's the earliest source that we have.
[14:11]You think that can be something which is accurate.
[14:14]And then you have Iban Hisham who comes nearly two centuries after
[14:19]the prophet and then you have others and others who came many
[14:24]centuries after the prophet.
[14:27]If you want the true history, you can find it in.
[14:31]Now secondly, who were those who were writing the history?
[14:36]The reason why we have issues with our history and it's not
[14:39]a pure source is because usually those who were writing the history
[14:45]they were employed by who the governments by benya ban abbas you
[14:51]think ban abbas and beni will give you the correct history or
[14:56]they will present history only from their own angle how they see
[15:00]it from their corrupt lens and don't be surprised This is not
[15:06]something that happened in the past.
[15:09]Every single day today, we're w we're witnessing the same thing.
[15:14]When you look at global media today, is global media today giving
[15:17]you history the way it is?
[15:18]Are they writing history honestly?
[15:23]Doesn't the media today transform the victim into a perpetrator and the
[15:30]perpetrator into a victim?
[15:31]Isn't this what the media does?
[15:33]I remember many years ago one American official, of course, now she
[15:38]changed her perspective and she even wrote a book about that.
[15:41]She was talking about Israel and she said, "Poor, poor Israel is
[15:45]under siege." Poor Israel.
[15:49]Subhan Allah.
[15:51]You have a government who came and occupied lands and it displaced
[15:56]hundreds of thousands of people and it has imposed a blockade on
[16:01]them.
[16:01]Yet Israel is the poor one who's under siege.
[16:05]But that's how history is being written.
[16:07]We witness it today.
[16:10]You don't think Ban Abbas and Bome did that too with their
[16:12]history today.
[16:13]When you look at for example and you examine alashi the popular
[16:19]mobilization forces, those faithful young men who are sacrificing their lives to
[16:26]defend their lands from these evil forces of ISIS.
[16:28]How does the Arab media display them?
[16:31]How are they writing history?
[16:35]They are making ISIS the victims haram, the innocent ones and the
[16:40]hashi as the aggressors, as the criminals.
[16:43]I even saw a survey, an opinion poll that was conducted by
[16:48]one of those Arab media outlets.
[16:50]It was asking who do you think is the real terrorist ISIS
[16:56]or the popular mobilization forces the shi 70% of those ignorant Arabs
[17:03]you know what they said no it's the hash shabi that's the
[17:06]real terrorist not ISIS this is what the media does this is
[17:11]what the media does most of these youth they're defending their own
[17:15]homeland from these evil forces and yet they're the criminals We see
[17:23]how the media takes the victim and makes the victim an oppressor
[17:28]and takes the oppressor and the tyrant and the dictator and the
[17:32]criminal and they make him into someone who's innocent.
[17:34]That's exactly what Beni did.
[17:38]That's exactly what Muawi and Yazid and these others did.
[17:40]We have a lot of issues with our history.
[17:44]Therefore, we cannot rely on much that is passed down to us.
[17:49]That is why we the followers of B encourage everyone when you
[17:55]examine history don't take anything at face value.
[17:56]No, go and examine see if this is correct or not correct.
[18:01]Use the intellect that Allah subhana wa ta'ala has given you.
[18:04]Now one of the purest sources for our Islamic history is there
[18:08]is so much history in it.
[18:12]Just read it and read the commentaries on and you'll discover that
[18:19]amazing side of the prophet's history of the history of and you'll
[18:22]see the dark side of the history of the evil ones those
[18:26]evil ones who came after the prophet sallallahu alaihi and that's why
[18:33]you see some scholars from other schools of thought they have an
[18:39]issue with they have an issue with a speech like why do
[18:43]they have an issue with it?
[18:45]Why do you think so many scholars from other schools of thought
[18:51]have issue with this?
[18:51]You know why?
[18:54]Because it gives you the real truth.
[18:56]It tells you what actually happened in history and they don't like
[18:59]to hear it.
[19:00]That's how that's why they'll come out and say you'll hear them
[19:03]all the time.
[19:05]No, this is fakeb.
[19:04]It's a forb.
[19:06]I ali never said that because they have an issue with it.
[19:09]Because in this the im makes a lot of historical points.
[19:13]He explains to us what happened after the prophet sallallahu alaihi.
[19:19]Therefore number two presents to us the correct history that we have.
[19:24]Number three, you will not find a book besides the book of
[19:32]Allah which will interact with your heart and give you mo and
[19:37]advice like Allahbar.
[19:38]When you read the words of Im Ali, how they humble your
[19:45]heart.
[19:43]Even if you have a heart of stone, you just read those
[19:48]words and it breaks that stone in your heart.
[19:51]It softens the heart.
[19:52]It prepares you for the hereafter.
[19:54]The imam teaches you how to take life seriously to be a
[20:04]successful individual.
[20:02]The of are truly amazing which we shall discuss discuss in one
[20:10]of the nights.
[20:13]The im lays out 110 or 114 qualities about the pious ones.
[20:18]When you read each of those segments, Allah is my witness.
[20:25]It sends a chill down your spine when you hear those words
[20:29]of giving you advice, giving you.
[20:33]I encourage everyone on this night, make a commitment with the im
[20:39]whom you are commemorating.
[20:41]Oh Allah, give me the to get closer to this book so
[20:47]I can understand it.
[20:48]When you look at the it really changes your lifestyle.
[20:53]To give you an example, in one of those beautiful speeches, the
[20:57]imam is giving advice to those who are indulged in sins.
[21:04]Those who keep insisting on sinning and spreading mischief and creating chaos
[21:14]in society.
[21:10]The Imam says according to this Oh servants of Allah, see the
[21:34]words of on this night, see the representative of God, how he
[21:42]speaks.
[21:40]Oh, the servants of God, have mercy on your tender, gentle, fragile
[21:49]skin.
[21:50]This skin cannot bear the fire of hell.
[21:53]It cannot handle it.
[21:55]We need to hear this sometimes, brothers and sisters.
[21:59]I know some people might will come up to me and say,
[22:03]"Say it.
[22:01]Please don't mention hell." Habib, Allah has filled the Holy Quran with
[22:05]references to hell.
[22:07]When my imam speaks about the hellfire, you don't want me to
[22:11]speak about it.
[22:11]Then what's my job here?
[22:13]My job here is to show you the truth as it is.
[22:17]I am only a messenger.
[22:17]I'm not making this up.
[22:21]Sometimes we need to hear this, brothers and sisters, because this sometimes
[22:24]will keep us in check.
[22:25]It will make sure that we're going straight.
[22:28]Next time when you're doing and destroying someone's reputation and creating havoc
[22:35]in society, just remember this verse or this phrase from Im Ali.
[22:48][Music] Have mercy on yourselves for you have tried yourselves in the
[23:10]difficulties of this life.
[23:09]We've seen how weak we are.
[23:26]Have you not seen how impatient you become when a thorn, a
[23:32]small thorn goes into your body?
[23:34]You see how it pierces your tender skin.
[23:36]When you fall on the ground, you trip and you bleed.
[23:40]And when you walk on the hot desert, how it burns your
[23:45]feet.
[23:46]You've seen that.
[23:46]You've seen how weak you are.
[23:46]You can't handle anything.
[23:57][Music] Then imagine yourself if you can't handle this.
[24:04]Imagine if you are between two layers of the fire of hell.
[24:10]On one side you're lying on the hot rock.
[24:14]On the other side the shaitan is your partner sleeping next to
[24:19]you in hell.
[24:18]Allahbar.
[24:19]Look at the of we need to hear this brothers and sisters.
[24:26]It's okay.
[24:25]It softens our heart.
[24:28]It prepares us for the hereafter.
[24:30]These are the of therefore the is significant and important for three
[24:37]reason.
[24:39]Three reasons.
[24:41]It provides you the correct source of number one.
[24:43]Number two, it presents you the correct authentic unadulterated history.
[24:49]Number three, it really gives you pieces of wisdom that you will
[24:56]not find in any other book.
[24:57]We as followers of B and the imam, we need to take
[25:03]this book more seriously.
[25:04]And subhan Allah, when you examine these speeches of you, you see
[25:10]that all of these speeches were delivered impromptu without any preparation.
[25:17]You know any speaker has to prepare what he or she is
[25:20]going to say except Im Ali.
[25:24]He did not have to think.
[25:25]He did not have to prepare for anything once they challenged him.
[25:28]Oh Ali, are you the representative of God?
[25:31]Give us a speech that has no al if the letter A.
[25:35]It's the most common letter in the Arabic language.
[25:36]Give us a speech from beginning to an end.
[25:41]It does not have the letter A.
[25:43]Who can do that beside without preparation without s thinking the words
[25:49]just flew from his mouth?
[25:51]In another occasion they challenged him.
[25:53]Oh, give us a speech which does not have any al dotted
[25:57]alphabets.
[25:58]You know the Arabic language has 28 alphabets.
[26:02]Half of them have dots like the but it has a dot,
[26:09]right?
[26:06]give us a speech without any letter that has a dot.
[26:13]Immediately they're asking him to make a speech not using half of
[26:16]the alphabets.
[26:18]Who can do that?
[26:21]Who can do that impromptu without any thinking?
[26:24]Only was able to do that?
[26:28]All of these speeches that you find in these beautiful short concise
[26:33]words, the imam delivered them impromptu without any preparation.
[26:38]And that's truly what's amazing about this book.
[26:44]Subhan Allah.
[26:43]And even though these speeches were impromptu, but subhan Allah, their organizational
[26:50]structure is impeccable.
[26:52]When you see the organization in the speech of the Imam Alisam,
[26:56]every speech by the Imam has a beautiful introduction, a nice intro
[27:02]that really captivates you that penetrates your heart.
[27:09]It prepares you for the body of his speech.
[27:11]For example, in one speech, the Imisam wanted to rebuke the Kawar,
[27:18]you know, the Khares who revolted against the Imisam.
[27:20]The Imam wanted to rebuke them.
[27:26]He started his speech very beautifully.
[27:26]Just one line, a very short intro, but it had a profound
[27:32]impact.
[27:33]The imam says the imam is telling those look I care about
[27:54]you.
[27:55]I want the goodness for you.
[27:57]This is the humanity of let me tell you that when you
[28:06]disobey someone who is sincere number one who cares about you he's
[28:09]compassionate number three he's knowledgeable number four he has a lot of
[28:14]experience this will make you regretful this will stir remorse in your
[28:21]heart and then the Imam Alisam rebuked them for revoling and creating
[28:26]havoc in the Muslim This one line was so powerful.
[28:30]The Imam Alisam was not speaking like these dictators that we see
[28:33]today speaking so arrogantly.
[28:36]The Imam would speak to them very compassionately and it had an
[28:41]impact.
[28:41]You know before the battle of Nahawan narrations tell us there were
[28:47]18 or 12,000 karajis who wanted to fight imbalam but the Imam
[28:53]would admonish them through these speeches and he would tell his companions
[28:57]such as Ib Abbas to go and speak to them to give
[29:06]them advice from 12,000 8,000 of them they repented they heard the
[29:13]speech like we repent.
[29:12]We realized we were on the wrong path.
[29:16]4,000 were the ones who remained and they were determined to fight.
[29:23]And the Imisam told his companion who sent him to speak to
[29:27]them.
[29:28]He told him these any verse that you use with them, they'll
[29:33]reject it because they will interpret it differently.
[29:36]They will use their opinions.
[29:37]So use another method.
[29:38]But that companion unfortunately did not take the advice of Imam Ali.
[29:43]Had he taken maybe all of these 4,000 would have returned and
[29:46]they would have changed their path and the battle occurred only nine
[29:53]remained.
[29:54]Nine Khares and Subhan Allah see these nine were the evil root.
[30:01]14 centuries later we have ISIS the continuation of those Khades.
[30:06]Nine remained only nine remained.
[30:07]The others were killed in the battlefield because they waged war against
[30:11]the Imam and they wanted war.
[30:12]All of them were killed except nine.
[30:14]And see what these nine did.
[30:15]Subhan Allah.
[30:17]Sometimes this tells you a lot about our history.
[30:21]Don't we have three others who till this very day see what
[30:23]they did?
[30:25]We have many examples in our history.
[30:27]The Imam Ali brings a beautiful balance in his speeches.
[30:32]When he's speaking to his enemies, for example, or those who waged
[30:36]war against him, the Imam would normally start his speech with nice,
[30:41]beautiful words which would give them hope in their hearts.
[30:45]The Imam would not threaten them initially.
[30:48]He would speak to them about the mercy of Allah subhana wa
[30:52]ta'ala.
[30:53]He would give them hope so that he could soften their heart.
[30:55]Then at the end he would give them a stern warning.
[30:58]But the Imam when he would speak speaking to his companions the
[31:04]Imisam would do the exact opposite.
[31:07]He would start his sermon by rebuking them by making them feel
[31:12]ashamed for their betrayal.
[31:15]Because the imam, one of the diseases that existed in his society
[31:20]was betrayal.
[31:19]His closest companions and supporters would betray him.
[31:24]They would not listen to him.
[31:26]They did not have the energy to defend their lands, to defend
[31:31]the religion of Islam.
[31:32]The Imam would initially rebuke them, make them feel ashamed of themselves.
[31:37]Then the Imam would speak to them about and it's okay.
[31:42]You've been bad people.
[31:43]You've been a bad community.
[31:47]Allah subhana wa ta'ala has still a way for you.
[31:49]There is room for and this was really effective.
[31:54]And then after the intro you see the imam in every of
[31:59]his speeches he has a body and then a powerful conclusion.
[32:01]All of this was done impromptu without any preparation.
[32:06]This is the power of now who is the one who compiled
[32:17]this book that we have.
[32:19]How did it get to us?
[32:21]Who is the one who compiled it?
[32:23]This book was compiled by a Sharif Ali Muhammad Hussein.
[32:30]a Sharif Ali he was born in the year 359 Hijra and
[32:36]he died in the year 406 Hijra so we're talking about a
[32:43]thousand years ago in the 4th century in the fourth Islamic century
[32:46]and he did not live long just 46 47 years Sharifi is
[32:54]the 12th descendant of Imam and he comes from the line of
[33:01]imam he's The fifth descendant of Alm Sharifi was an amazing scholar.
[33:07]He was the chief of the of the Shia.
[33:13]He had this official title, the leader of the Shia in Baghdad.
[33:18]He was known for his amazing abilities in poetry.
[33:23]In fact, some scholars and historians have considered him to be one
[33:28]of the most powerful poets of all time and he was one
[33:34]of the students of a al- Mu as Sharif Ali started to
[33:40]compile the speeches of Im Ali in one book.
[33:44]It took him 17 years to do that.
[33:45]In 17 years ali he gathered 242 speeches, 78 letters and 498
[33:59]maxims.
[34:00]Those short statements in he compiled them in.
[34:07]Now the speeches that the Imam that the Imam Alisam would deliver
[34:12]most of them were delivered in the Friday sermon.
[34:14]When the Imam became Khalifa those four years he would pray the
[34:18]Friday prayer and he would give sermons.
[34:21]A lot of the sermons that we have in they were delivered
[34:27]by the Imam in the Friday prayer.
[34:29]Some of them were delivered in the sermons of Eid.
[34:33]The Imam would give a speech and this would be documented.
[34:38]And also some of the speeches that the Imam gave, they were
[34:42]delivered in the battlefield shortly before a battle.
[34:46]After a battle, especially the three main battles of the Imam, the
[34:49]battle of J, the battle of Sufi, and the battle of Narawan,
[34:54]the Imam would give powerful speeches.
[34:56]A Sharifi is the one who compiled this amazing book for us.
[35:03]Now despite the power of you have some people in history from
[35:07]other schools of thought they came and they looked at the power
[35:13]of they did not like it because the Quran says most of
[35:17]them hate the truth they have an issue with the truth they're
[35:20]like the best way to discredit this book let's cast doubts on
[35:25]it who said this belongs to Ali and they accused Sharifi of
[35:33]writing the book till this very day we have scholars from other
[35:37]schools of thought they tell you that was authored by he the
[35:42]one who wrote those speeches these are not the words of the
[35:47]first one to cast doubt on wasb he's a seventh century biographer
[35:55]now for sectarian reasons and political reasons he cast doubt on then
[36:01]after came after him came and who Iben Tamia the disaster the
[36:07]disease in our history Ibia came and he's like this book has
[36:13]nothing to do with im Ali couldn't say these words anyways they
[36:17]don't belong to him you see the hatred whenever you see Ibia
[36:21]discussing anything about Imam you see the hatred just pouring from his
[36:30]When he comes to this verse, Allah says that is for who?
[36:44]For those who do not want any corruption, any arrogant position in
[36:50]life.
[36:51]You know what he says?
[36:54]He says this ayah is attacking Ali because wanted corruption and he
[37:01]wanted a high position in life and they call him what?
[37:06]And when it comes to the verse of you know what he
[37:11]says they told him look the verse is very clear that Allah
[37:14]has purified the you know what his reply was he says Allah
[37:23]doesn't tell us in the Quran he actually purified them.
[37:28]The the holy Quran says Allah wants to purify them.
[37:32]He wants to, but he never told us that he actually did.
[37:36]Can you believe that?
[37:39]This is which the which with the Wahhabis are so obsessed with
[37:44]until this very day and that's why you have the likes of
[37:48]ISIS.
[37:48]So is like this book is not valid.
[37:53]And he came up with an excuse.
[37:56]What was his excuse?
[37:58]He's like, he does not tell us the chain of narrators to
[38:01]Im Ali.
[38:02]There's no Senate.
[38:03]He just tells us this is a speech from Im Ali.
[38:06]Where did you get it from?
[38:07]Where's the chain of narrators?
[38:11]You don't have a direct link to Im Ali.
[38:13]How is it that we respond to these objections, brothers and sisters?
[38:19]Because we need to know this in society.
[38:22]Sometimes you'll have a debate with someone and they'll ask you and
[38:25]corner you.
[38:26]We need to know how to defend the book of Naj Balaga.
[38:31]Tonight, let's briefly explore its authenticity and then in the following nights,
[38:36]we'll explore the depths of Naj Balaga.
[38:37]First of all, we have alsi was born.
[38:48]13 years before Sharifi was was born, al-Si died.
[38:54]He has a book called What does he say?
[38:57]He says, "I saw the people in our societies and communities.
[39:02]They had memorized 480 speeches by Im Ali and they knew it
[39:08]by heart.
[39:12]They had memorized it just like people would memorize the Quran.
[39:17]So you had 480 speeches which people knew by heart and everyone
[39:23]knew these speeches were by im Ali just like the Quran which
[39:28]people had memorized.
[39:27]Now in Sharifi he just presents to us how many speeches?
[39:31]242 whereas he is testifying he is saying when before Sharifi was
[39:40]born we have 480 speeches was people know by heart.
[39:45]So these speeches were widely circulating they were widely memorized people knew
[39:48]them by heart.
[39:51]That's number one.
[39:54]Number two, when you examine the sermons of Bal, you can find
[39:58]an earlier source to almost every sermon in you'll find that this
[40:05]speech is found in an earlier source.
[40:09]For example, one of the sources of is what is the book
[40:15]of kafi.
[40:12]The book of kafi is decades before the book of kafi mentions
[40:20]many of these speeches.
[40:22]For example, You'll find it in the book of kafi and 41
[40:25]other sermons and statements by imi you'll find them in the book
[40:32]of kafi the books of the books of they have documented these
[40:35]speeches so we find these speeches before how is it that he
[40:39]made them up when we have actual sources to them we have
[40:46]the book by jah the famous litary ary figure.
[40:52]He has mentioned many speeches of in his book.
[40:59]You have for example the book he has documented parts of you
[41:07]have Sunni scholars who have documented the speeches of before.
[41:17]In fact, the first one, brothers and sisters, to write a book
[41:25]about was before the year 96.
[41:30]How many years is that before?
[41:33]We're talking about 300 years before.
[41:38]A man by the name of Zed Ibah al Jani.
[41:45]This man would write the speeches of Imam when he would deliver
[41:53]them in the Friday sermon and also the sermons of the Eid.
[41:56]He would write them he compiled them.
[41:58]We had a book that compiled the speeches of 300 years before.
[42:05]And then you have people like him in Tamia.
[42:08]they come and tell you no this is not authentic he made
[42:12]them up this is truly a disaster and there were other companions
[42:18]of an imbal such as he was the scribe of the Imam
[42:24]he would write and document important events he wrote many of the
[42:31]IM speeches and so the speeches of IM Alib were passed down
[42:34]to us number one through how through memorization Number two, through documentation
[42:41]they were written.
[42:41]This book is indeed a very authentic book and in the following
[42:45]nights brothers and sisters we will explore it inshallah.
[42:49]Let us understand the significance of this amazing book.
[42:53]On such a night let us commemorate the author of when you
[43:00]think of the commander of the faithful realize what he offered for
[43:05]humanity.
[43:06]Brothers and sisters, this is Ali.
[43:10]This is the man who represents the perfect relationship between the and
[43:21]his mah between us and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[43:24]You know Abu Da one of the companions of Alisam he says
[43:31]once after Im Ali we were sitting with the companions of the
[43:36]prophet with and the mosque of the prophet and we were discussing
[43:41]the virtues of the people of the people of and how high
[43:51]they are.
[43:49]Abu Da says, "I told them I know someone who has the
[43:56]least wealth but the most tawa and piety and he was the
[44:02]best worshipper of Allah." They told him, "Who is that?
[44:06]Abu Da tell us let's talk about his virtues." He told them
[44:10]that is the commander of the faithful.
[44:14]He says, "As soon as I said that, they turned away their
[44:19]faces.
[44:20]Why did they treat you like that?
[44:26]They cannot even handle hearing your virtues.
[44:27]They turned their faces.
[44:29]And one of them, one of them, one of the got up
[44:32]and he tells him, he's speaking to who?
[44:37]Abu Da.
[44:36]Why are you saying this?
[44:40]You've said something no one accepted.
[44:41]See, just as you mentioned Ali, everyone turned their faces.
[44:43]Why is it that you say he was the best worshipper?
[44:46]He says, "Look, you want to believe me, you don't want to
[44:50]believe me, that's up to you.
[44:51]I'll tell you what I saw from Ali and you tell me
[44:55]what you saw from any other companion and then you compare the
[44:58]two." One night I was amongst Ali Abbal.
[45:01]He was amongst his family, his friends, his servants.
[45:06]When in the darkness of the night, I saw Abu Talib disappeared.
[45:12]I thought maybe he went to his house, maybe he went somewhere
[45:15]somewhere else.
[45:15]So I was passing by the farm which had so many palm
[45:21]trees in the darkness of the night when I heard this very
[45:26]sad voice coming from the woods from the palm trees.
[45:30]I started hearing these words and I heard someone crying from the
[45:35]bottom of his heart.
[45:35]He was saying these words.
[45:38][Music] This is open your hearts brothers and sisters because is a
[45:52]night of dua.
[45:54]It's a night of forgiveness where we ask Allah subhana wa ta'ala
[45:58]to forgive us.
[46:00]I want you to interact with the words of this is how
[46:03]you ask Allah's forgiveness.
[46:04]He says, "Oh Allah, how many big sins have you forgiven?" And
[46:10]instead of punishing me, you have not punished me, oh Allah.
[46:20]Oh Allah, how many crimes have I committed?
[46:23]How many big sins and you have not exposed me, oh Allah?
[46:28]Because you're generous.
[46:29]And the one who is generous is not the one who exposes
[46:34]others.
[46:38]Im Ali is saying this.
[46:43]He says, "Oh Allah, if I have lived a long life in
[46:48]in disobedience, oh, you're the one who says this.
[46:51]What about [Music] [Music] us?
[47:04]Then be Oh Allah, if I see that my sin is huge
[47:10]in my book of actions when you give it to me in
[47:13]my grave on the day of judgment.
[47:15]If I see all of that, even if I've lived a life
[47:19]full of sins, and oh Allah, even if I have the biggest
[47:23]of sins, but I still have hope, oh Allah, I still have
[47:36]hope in your in your mercy, in your satisfaction.
[47:40]He says the imam would say this until the im remained silent
[47:47]for a while.
[47:50]I came to see who is this voice.
[47:51]I realized this is he was praying a few in the darkness
[47:59]of the night.
[47:58]Then I heard the imam continue.
[48:00]The Imam would say, "Oh Allah, whenever I think about your forgiveness,
[48:12]then I see that my sin is not such a big deal.
[48:16]It's okay.
[48:17]I have a merciful Lord." [Music] Then, oh Allah, I start thinking
[48:30]about your punishment and that frightens me.
[48:32]I realize I have a great tragedy.
[48:34]You see how the imam teaches you to always be in the
[48:38]state between fearing God and loving God and having hope in [Music]
[48:51][Music] him.
[48:55]Woe upon me if I read a sin in the books.
[48:59]I have forgotten about sin.
[49:04]But oh Allah, you've recorded that sin.
[49:16]Oh Allah, then what will happen to me if you say on
[49:21]the day of judgment take him punishment?
[49:22]Who can help me on the day of judgment?
[49:26]My family, my tribe, no one can help [Music] me.
[49:43]Abudd says, "I saw saying this until he fell to the ground
[49:49]unconscious.
[49:50]I gave to him.
[49:53]When I touched the body of it was like a dry piece
[50:00]of wood.
[50:02]I thought had passed away.
[50:03]He died.
[50:04]He fell.
[50:03]He had a heart attack and he died.
[50:05]I said I ran towards the house of Fat.
[50:13]I knocked on her door.
[50:16]I told her Fat I give you my condolences.
[50:19]Ali died.
[50:19]She says, "Oh Abu Da, what do you mean he died?
[50:22]Explain to me what did you see?" He explained to her what
[50:26]he heard from the Imam and how he saw the imam fall
[50:29]to the ground.
[50:31]Says, She says, "I swear by Allah, this is what happens to
[50:48]Ali every night." This is our commander of the faithful.
[50:52]He says, "I went back to the body of Ali.
[50:55]We sprayed some water on him.
[50:57]He regained his consciousness.
[51:00]I looked at him.
[51:00]I told him, oh, why do you do this to this to
[51:05]yourself?" The imam told him, [Music] for oh you're concerned about me
[51:39]then How what would you do if you would see not me
[51:41]Ali Abi but the average person on the day of judgment standing
[51:46]with others being judged by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala seeing the angels
[51:52]surrounding them those tough angels then what would you do oh budda
[51:56]this is Ali Abal he tells the companions in the mosque of
[52:02]the prophet this is what I saw from Ali do you have
[52:04]anything like it did you see anything like it in any of
[52:12]the companions.
[52:11]But oh, they did not know your true value.
[52:17]What did they do to you?
[52:19]How did you spend this night?
[52:22]Oh believers, I want you now to take your hearts to the
[52:28]house of because in the month of Ramadan every night he would
[52:36]go to the house of one of his daughters or sons to
[52:39]havear.
[52:40]On such a night, it was turn was her guest for she
[52:48]she brought she brought thear and offered it to you know what
[52:56]was this last by she says I brought some pieces of dry
[52:59]bread for some salt and some milk.
[53:05]Imam looked at the food.
[53:09]He told me, "Oh, when have you seen your father eat several
[53:12]types of food?" Allahbar, several types of food.
[53:17]Oh, Ali, what was your food?
[53:18]Just bread and some salt and milk.
[53:21]She said, "I wanted to take the milk.
[53:23]I wanted to take the salt so he would have some bread
[53:28]and milk." The imam said, "No, no, no.
[53:31]Keep the salt and take the milk." The final of was some
[53:35]bread and some salt.
[53:38]On such a night, the Imis broke his fast.
[53:43]But this night was a different night.
[53:45]Every night was like a lion in the midst of the night
[53:49]with but with courage.
[53:51]But this night was a different night for afterar.
[53:56]He took a short nap.
[54:01]He woke up from that nap.
[54:03]He was frightened.
[54:02]Comes to she says, "Oh, what's wrong with you?
[54:07]Why is it that I see you in this state, in this
[54:13]anxious state?" He tells her, "Oh, I just saw in my dream.
[54:22]I saw on the mount of Mecca." What did he do?
[54:28]He took two pieces of rock and he crushed them and he
[54:33]hit them against each other and this dust emerged from those rocks
[54:38]and it entered every house in Mecca.
[54:40]Meaning the tragedy will enter every house of the believers of the
[54:47]Muslims of the Imisam told his daughter oh I am a courageous
[54:59]man.
[54:59]You know how courageous I am in the battlefield.
[55:03]I killed the biggest of the warriors.
[55:06]I was able to bear the biggest tragedies.
[55:07]But tonight is a different something else awaits me [Music] tonight.
[55:21]My time is coming up.
[55:26]my time is expiring and there's no longer any hope.
[55:30]He would go to his courtyard, the yard of his house and
[55:35]he would look towards the sky.
[55:37]He would he would look at the stars and he would say
[55:47]tonight is the night which Allah has promised me.
[55:51]He told me about such a night.
[55:53]I can see the signs in the sky.
[55:54]Tonight is the night.
[55:57]The imam before he goes he does his salah his supplications he
[56:07]takes a short nap.
[56:07]He tells before wake me up.
[56:10]She comes and she wakes up and she sees him crying.
[56:15]Oh father what's happening?
[56:16]He tells her just now I saw the prophet he wiped my
[56:27]head and he removed the dust from me and he told me
[56:35]the prophet tells you know Ali you have fulfilled your responsibility your
[56:40]time is up and we miss you Ali come to us tonight
[56:45]is The last night before he prepares himself to go to the
[56:54]mosque, the Imis as he's going to the mosque, he passes through
[57:00]the yard of his house.
[57:01]There were some geese, some ducks in the house of the Imam.
[57:06]When they seem, they create this commotion.
[57:09]They start screaming.
[57:09]It's as if they were telling him, "Oh, I immediat." The Imam
[57:19]when he heard these ducks crying and making noise, the im said,
[57:26]"Now these ducks are crying, but soon people will be crying on
[57:33]me." The im goes into the mosque.
[57:35]At the gate of the mosque, the Imam was wearing a belt.
[57:38]And this belt gets stuck to the door of the mosque.
[57:42]It opens.
[57:44]It gets loosened.
[57:43]It opens and it's stuck to the door.
[57:50]The im speaks to himself.
[57:51]The IM tells himself The Imam is telling himself, "Fasten your belt
[58:21]for death.
[58:22]Death is awaiting you." Just as life makes you laugh, sometimes life
[58:26]also makes you cry.
[58:29]In other moments, the Imisam goes into the masjid.
[58:38]He prays.
[58:35]Then the imam makes the to wake up everyone in the masjid.
[58:43]The Imam passes by.
[58:43]He sees the the cursed enemy of God.
[58:46]Mujam.
[58:47]He was sleeping on his stomach and he was hiding this the
[58:53]sword under his stomach.
[58:52]The imisam tells him don't sleep like that.
[58:56]This is how the shaitan sleep.
[58:57]Get up and pray.
[59:02]The Imm.
[59:00]Oh believers, now take your heart to the mosque of Kufa.
[59:07]Imagine picture this scene is standing in this which that which he
[59:17]used to go to every night and he would say mai now
[59:22]is standing his final time in that the imam begins the morning
[59:30]prayer he begins his salah the tragedy is now awake wait to
[59:40]go believers, the evil enemy.
[59:41]As the iman is continuing his salah, he takes out a sword.
[59:45]He had prepared the sword for entire year.
[59:48]He got the worst type of poison on the sword.
[59:54]Im recites the surah.
[60:01]He goes to Oh believers, here comes the tragedy.
[60:04]Im goes to his final sujud.
[60:10]When raises his head from the sudb charges at him, he takes
[60:20]out the sword and he strikes the head [Music] [Applause] of falls
[60:37]on the ground.
[60:39]The blood is gushing from his head.
[60:42]Makes a call in the sky.
[60:57]Yes.
[60:58]He says the pillars of faith have been broken, have been demolished.
