[0:14]foreign in our last lesson we mentioned a story regarding imam al-qaeda
[0:53]and said his daughter fatima sarawak and particular miracles that happened due
[1:03]to the blessings of these two infallibles we mentioned the story of
[1:09]the christian man called yahoo jacob who was in baghdad and was
[1:17]sick and through the blessings of imam and calvin and said with
[1:23]allah's permission of course he was healed from a difficult sickness that
[1:29]that that jacob was was experiencing although he had went to doctors
[1:39]and doctors treated him they weren't able to heal him but through
[1:43]imam al-qaeda's intercession he was healed and as a result he became
[1:47]muslim then we also we we mentioned the fifth point if you
[1:55]remember regarding the miracles of rasulallah and that is we said that
[2:05]the miracles of rasulallah this brought us to uh the meaning of
[2:11]tawatur and the two types of tawatur so we mentioned that basically
[2:17]when we have multiple chains of narrators multiple chains of narrators um
[2:24]speaking about the same hadith so we have multiple chains of narrators
[2:32]that transmit the same hadith such that it is impossible for all
[2:38]of these narrators to have agreed on fabricating a lie or to
[2:48]have agreed on lying when transmitting that hadith and it is also
[2:52]impossible that all of them made a mistake in understanding what took
[2:59]place when this happens we have toward one we also mentioned that
[3:06]with tawatur basically one specific hadith or one specific event or occurrence
[3:14]must be transmitted from one generation to another and in each generation
[3:20]there should be an abundant amount of people who are transmitting that
[3:29]specific hadith that specific narration or speaking about a specific event or
[3:33]occurrence then we mentioned the two types of tawa turtle sili and
[3:41]tawatur ishmaeli and we said with tawa turtofsili what's happening is the
[3:47]the narrators are mentioning the same narration such as the tradition of
[3:58]so they're mentioning the same exact narration or the same exact event
[4:03]with tawatur ishmaeli what's happening is they're mentioning different narrations or different
[4:14]events but all of those narrations and or events revolve around the
[4:18]same topic and we gave an example if you remember pertaining to
[4:23]imam ali's courage we said the courage of imam ali is undeniable
[4:28]undeniable muslims know muslims and non-muslims at least those who have looked
[4:37]into the personality and biography of imam ali know that imam ali's
[4:43]courage was unique it was unique now his courage manifested in multiple
[4:48]instances such as the battle of badr battle of uhud the battle
[4:55]of khandak and other battles now in each battle the events of
[5:00]that battle were narrated by a set of narrators a number of
[5:09]narrators possibly each of those events weren't narrated in tewatur but when
[5:15]we bring all of those events together we find that we have
[5:20]tawatur ishmaeli we find that all of those narrators who inherited what
[5:30]happened in those battles and what imam ali did in those battles
[5:34]have agreed on one point which is imam ali's courage was impeccable
[5:40]it was outstanding hence we say it is impossible that all of
[5:47]those different narrators agreed on what on lying regarding imam ali's courage
[5:54]hence we have towards we mentioned these points in detail and today
[6:01]inshallah we want to um shed light on a dialogue that took
[6:05]place between imam and a jewish scholar where in the gathering of
[6:16]then inshaallah we want to shed light on some events that happened
[6:19]after us after he entered medina and after he chose to reside
[6:29]in the house of abu ayobe ansari rahimahullah now before we read
[6:37]the words of imam already you need to understand that was a
[6:48]devious caliph in fact he was the most devious caliph amongst the
[6:56]cows of the most devious one and due to his deviousness um
[7:03]he tried to lure imam into multiple traps so in better terms
[7:12]he made different plots to directly or indirectly harm imam ali but
[7:21]every time he would make a plot against the imam the plot
[7:26]would back fire on al-moon hence at the end he saw that
[7:30]it was time to execute the imam to kill him through poison
[7:35]now one of those plots was what was gathering scholars from different
[7:41]religions christians for example christian scholars jewish scholars uh sabia scholars and
[7:50]others so they may debate with imam thinking that imam will fail
[8:00]in the debate will lose the debate however as i told you
[8:07]the plot backfired on al-mahmoon because imam al-salam basically was able to
[8:13]silence every individual who debated with him every scholar who debated with
[8:19]him and what's beautiful about this debate which we were we will
[8:25]shed light on used the proofs that each scholar accepts in order
[8:32]to prove him wrong so when speaking with the christian scholar he
[8:38]would use verses from the bible when speaking with the jewish scholar
[8:44]he would use verses from the taurat or the old testament etc
[8:50]so today inshallah we want to look at a specific part regarding
[8:54]miracles the issue of miracles the topic of miracles was mentioned by
[8:59]imam ali as he was speaking to a jewish scholar let me
[9:07]just send you the text and we'll read it inshaallah by the
[9:11]way you can find the whole debate that i'm mentioning in the
[9:16]book is his words to who to a jewish scholar which was
[10:00]a title of course not a name nonetheless we told him oh
[10:06]rasut i want to ask you about your prophet musa son of
[10:10]imran said he said ask he told him what is the proof
[10:21]that confirms the prophethood of musa it's as if he's telling him
[10:27]you've believed in musa based on what what's your proof that confirms
[10:33]musa's prophet what makes you certain as a prophet he told him
[10:47]the jewish man told the imam that musa alaihissalam presented miracles that
[10:55]weren't that weren't presented by the prophets before him so he's claiming
[11:01]that musa not only performed miracles but his miracles were also unique
[11:08]such that the previous prophets like ibrahim and others had not performed
[11:14]such miracles like what give us some examples on those miracles he
[11:41]told him like parting the sea splitting the sea open and like
[11:47]turning the staff into a snake that was moving rapidly and like
[11:54]striking a stone he struck a stone with his staff striking a
[12:02]stone and causing springs of water to stem from that stone and
[12:07]like uh when he came to pharaoh he presented two signs one
[12:28]of them was the staff which turned into a serpent and the
[12:30]other one was when he removed his hand or his arm from
[12:35]his clothing his hand began glowing like the sun then he said
[12:47]we told him the signs meaning the miracles that musa is these
[12:54]signs cannot be presented by human beings as in human beings cannot
[13:00]perform such miracles unless they are supported by allah you told him
[13:21]you've said the truth you said the truth regarding what o imam
[13:23]says you said the truth when you say that the proof that
[13:31]confirms moosa's prophet to the prophet is that he was able to
[13:40]perform miracles that other people cannot perform meaning he was able to
[13:48]perform to present great signs that normal human beings cannot present again
[13:54]unless they're aided by allah wanted to use this argument against the
[14:18]jewish scholar so he told him that whenever a person claims to
[14:29]be a prophet and then presents that same person presents a sign
[14:35]a miracle that other people cannot present when this happens isn't it
[14:44]incumbent upon you to believe in him what did the jewish scholar
[14:49]say he said no why musa he told him the jewish scholar
[15:14]said no if a person presents miracles and signs that other people
[15:18]aren't able to present we shouldn't believe in him why he's saying
[15:28]because because we believed in musa because musa musa had no likes
[15:37]he was so close to god he was the closest person to
[15:44]god and other individuals weren't as close to god as him then
[15:48]he said he said whenever a person claims to be a prophet
[15:54]unless he presents the miracles that musa presented then it is not
[16:02]incumbent upon us to believe in him so what's the claim of
[16:07]the the jewish scholar the claim is unless a prophet parts the
[16:11]sea and turns the staff into a serpent and you know causes
[16:18]his hand to glow like the sun etc etc etc unless he
[16:22]performs musa signs and miracles then we're not demanded to believe in
[16:28]him now listen to imam response is not part the see and
[16:55]they did not cause twelve springs of water to stem from a
[17:00]stone walam yukriju idea home and they did not cause their hands
[17:08]to glow and show the glowing hands to the people then he
[17:15]said and they did not turn their staffs into snakes or serpents
[17:23]that were moving rapidly so the imam is telling him but you
[17:29]are jewish you believe in the prophets before musa like adam noah
[17:38]abraham and others but not all of them presented the signs of
[17:43]musa the miracles of musa so how did you believe in them
[17:48]what's the jewish scholar what will the jewish scholars say i've told
[18:20]you that when someone claims to be a prophet and presents signs
[18:26]meaning miracles that other people aren't able to present whether those signs
[18:33]are the same signs that moosa presented or not will not make
[18:37]a difference as long as they can present signs and miracles that
[18:42]the normal human being cannot present then we have to believe in
[18:48]them what do you find here you find that the jewish man
[18:53]changed his words when imam he changed his words previously he was
[19:01]saying we don't have to believe in anyone who claims prophethood even
[19:04]if he performs a miracle unless he performs moosa's miracles when imam
[19:09]what about the previous prophets the ones before musa they didn't perform
[19:14]the same miracles here what did he do he changed his words
[19:18]he had to change his words in order to you know find
[19:23]a solution to that problem so here imam made him he made
[19:28]him admit the truth truth is what the truth is the intellect
[19:33]tells you when a person claims to be a prophet and is
[19:38]able to present an actual miracle then you have to believe in
[19:44]him but again please focus on the word actual it has to
[19:48]be an actual miracle it cannot be something imaginary something that we
[19:54]imagine to be a mirror it has to be a real miracle
[20:04]fight does someone have a question before i continue no sir no
[20:31][Music] and he used to heal the blind by the way is
[21:02]a word referring to someone who is born blind someone who is
[21:07]born blind we call him so he tells him aisa used to
[21:11]revive the dead and he used to heal those who were born
[21:14]blind and he used to heal those who were afflicted with leprosy
[21:27]and he used to take a bunch of clay and and shape
[21:38]it in a way that resembles the shape of a bird or
[21:41]a flying animal then he would blow into that clay and it
[21:46]would turn into an actual bird or flying animal with allah's permission
[21:50]so he used to perform miracles then what prevents you from believing
[21:56]in as you may know the jews they disbelieve in two great
[22:01]prophets after musa is so the imam began with asa he began
[22:11]by opening the chapter of isa before going to muhammad let me
[22:27]just send you the second portion of the debate before i continue
[22:59][Music] it is said that performed those miracles but we never witness
[23:10]those miracles so we never saw those miracles with our own eyes
[23:13]this is similar to what you hear today so when for example
[23:19]speaking with atheists or disbelievers some disbelievers will tell you we didn't
[23:27]see the miracles that the so-called miracles that certain prophets did so
[23:33]the imam told him you told him did you witness with your
[23:41]own eyes the miracles performed by musa so it's as if he's
[23:48]telling him if you don't want to believe in asa because you
[23:52]did not you didn't witness his miracles with your own eyes then
[23:57]you shouldn't believe in musa as well because you were not during
[24:02]the you are not present during that time to witness musa's miracles
[24:13]he told him the trusted companions of musa narrate that musa performed
[24:36]those miracles and those narrations the narrations that were transmitted by moosa's
[24:43]trusted companions reach you so what's he telling him he's telling him
[24:47]yes you didn't witness with your own eyes the miracles of musa
[24:55]but the narrations regarding those miracles were passed down from one generation
[25:00]to another until it reached you and based on that you believed
[25:05]in musa's miracles not to forget of course that the first generation
[25:12]uh who who witnessed the miracles of muslim amongst that generation were
[25:20]trusted companions of musa salaam please focus on the word trusted trusted
[25:25]companions of musa those trusted companions narrated what happened so here the
[25:33]jew said bella he said yes he said those narrations reached us
[25:41]so the imam said just as the narrations pertaining to musa's miracles
[26:00]reached you similarly realize the imam uses the word muta it says
[26:07]narrations regarding he says miracles also reached you then why did you
[26:13]believe in musa and disbelieve in isa you see the if we've
[26:25]understood the argument of imam will understand that it's undeniable i mean
[26:30]if you believe in musa because traditions reached you telling you that
[26:37]musa performed this miracle and that miracle then you should believe in
[26:41]isa as well because the same applies to isa alaihissalam but if
[26:44]you're going to disbelieve in isa then you should disbelieve in musa
[26:49][Music] that's then the imam said now he opens the chapter of
[27:11]muhammad same applies to prophet muhammad s in fact he tells him
[27:32]this applies to all prophets who were sent by allah subhanahu wa
[27:36]tahana what's the imam saying here it's as if he's saying when
[27:41]a prophet would come he would perform miracles and the group of
[27:49]people who were living during his time would see his miracles then
[27:52]the prophet would pass away and other generations would come into existence
[27:58]in this world and they would be required of believing in that
[28:04]prophet but since he passed away he they wouldn't be able to
[28:11]actually witness with their own eyes the miracles he performed so on
[28:15]what basis would they believe in that prophet they would believe in
[28:19]that prophet based on the trusted narrations that were passed down by
[28:29]who by the people who preceded them of course those people would
[28:34]be also trusted people and the narrations would be mutawater then the
[28:49]imam alaihissalam then the imam gave a few examples regarding the prophet
[28:56]muhammad's miracles saying one of his signs meaning his miracles was that
[29:16]he was an orphan who was poor and was a shepherd who
[29:24]used to work for people in order to uh to acquire money
[29:29]most likely when the imam is the prophet saying that he used
[29:35]to work for people to acquire money i think he is referring
[29:37]to how he worked for khadijah alaha in order to you know
[29:45]uh make some profit so nonetheless he says he was a poor
[29:52]person and he was uh an orphan he was a shepherd meaning
[29:57]during part of his life and in ajir during part of his
[30:01]life he worked for others in order to acquire money lamia he
[30:09]never he never studied a particular book and he never learned under
[30:19]the hands of a teacher which contains the stories of the prophets
[30:40]so he says that this quran contains the stories of the prophets
[30:46]and it contains their stories in detail realize when you read for
[30:53]example the story of yusuf or the story of musa or ibrahim
[30:59]or sade there are a lot of details regarding their stories mentioned
[31:04]in the quran it's not just a general you know statement that
[31:08]mentions uh that allah sent this individual to that group of people
[31:13]the end no no the prophet meaning sorry the quran presents a
[31:19]good amount of details regarding the prophets and the quran also contains
[31:34]the um it contains passages that speak about the people who were
[31:40]before us meaning the first civilizations and it contains passages that speak
[31:45]about the people who will come up until the day of judgment
[31:52]realize the quran mentions certain events that will happen prior to the
[32:00]day of judgement that have not happened until now such as the
[32:05]reappearance of sharif and how he will [Music] how he will rule
[32:16]the world alahi salaam and how the righteous will rule the world
[32:22]it also speaks about the emergence of that battle armed the emergence
[32:28]of a creation that is a dab what's a dab a dabba
[32:33]is something that walks anything that walks slowly is a dab so
[32:37]a human is a dabba an animal is a dubba and an
[32:41]insect is also adaba in surat allah says there is that will
[32:46]emerge from the earth and will speak to the people this is
[32:50]before the day of judgment who is that according to the traditions
[32:54]of he will be resurrected in this world and will emerge from
[33:02]his grave and will address the people so the quran contains passages
[33:10]that speak about the ancient civilizations the first civilizations the people before
[33:17]us and also contains passages that speak about the people who will
[33:22]come up until the day of judgement here he mentioned another miracle
[33:34]performed by rasulullah he said that the prophet used to inform the
[33:42]people of their secrets and he used to inform them of what
[33:46]they used to do in their their houses this is similar to
[33:53]what isa would inform the people of the food they had stored
[33:57]in their houses so basically the prophet would inform them of the
[34:06]unseen he would inform them of the unseen unless he was a
[34:11]prophet of god how would he know such information then he says
[34:21]he says and the prophet presented countless miracles countless so as we
[34:28]said in the previous lessons it's not that he performed one or
[34:32]two or five miracles no no he performed hundreds if not thousands
[34:37]of miracles here the jew responded you told him that all of
[35:00]these narrations regarding muhammad's prophethood and esa's prophethood and their miracles all
[35:06]of these narrations are unreliable for us to us they're unreliable so
[35:13]we cannot depend on them we cannot base our faith on these
[35:17]narrations so he basically told the imam that it is unlawful for
[35:31]us to come forth and believe in isa and muhammad when the
[35:39]narrations supporting their prophethood are unreliable hear what the imam say he
[35:52]told him are you saying that the people who testified to have
[36:01]seen the miracles of isa and muhammad sallallahu alaihi are liars are
[36:08]you claiming that those who testified that they actually saw muhammad performing
[36:14]this miracle and that miracle and those who testified that they saw
[36:20]isa performing this miracle in that miracle are you claiming that they're
[36:25]liars falam yaher jawaba here the jew could not respond why couldn't
[36:30]he respond because if he's going to say yes they're liars then
[36:35]he has to present proof and secondly secondly if those individuals like
[36:42]for example simon peter who was asa's successor or adi abner fatima
[36:53]al-hassan the family of rasulullah and his noble companions like salman and
[36:57]their likes if those people are liars then um if those people
[37:06]are liars according to what the jew is saying then what tells
[37:10]him that for example uh with all due respect of course joshua
[37:15]and the you know trusted companions of musa were not liars i
[37:21]mean if you look into the biography of the biography of the
[37:28]companions of rasulallah the noble companions of course you're you look at
[37:34]individuals who were who had high morals individuals who were honest were
[37:42]sincere so if the jew is going to believe in the words
[37:48]of the noble companions of musa that he must believe in the
[37:53]words of the noble companions of isa and the noble family members
[37:58]and companions of muhammad sallallahu alaihi is this point clear inshallah basically
[38:30]what we're trying to say is in case it's not clear the
[38:36]noble companions of musa can't be trusted more than the noble companions
[38:43]of isa or muhammad so just as he believed in those individuals
[38:51]words he must believe in the other individual's words as well so
[39:19]this brings us to the end of the um topic regarding the
[39:26]prophet's miracles we've presented five main points five main points to prove
[39:34]that we can base our faith or strengthen our faith in rasulallah
[39:43]using the narrations that speak about miracles he performed in the past
[39:49]although we cannot see those miracles today and the five points just
[39:56]so we can keep them in mind were number one most or
[40:02]a lot of these miracles were mentioned accidentally i told you this
[40:08]was the weakest point number two the quran mentioned a number of
[40:14]these miracles number three sunni scholars mentioned uh the miracles of rasulallah
[40:20]pertaining to or the miracles of themselves number four uh miracles keep
[40:30]on happening in the shrines of ahmedabad today and number five the
[40:36]miracles of rasulallah were narrated narrations regarding his miracles the least we
[40:50]can say is we have to ign we have a bit of
[41:06]time left let's shed some light on the um events that happened
[41:15]when rasulullah entered madina up until now what did we mention if
[41:20]you remember we mentioned the migration of imam ali and that rasulallah
[41:29]was waiting for imam ali to come before he entered madina when
[41:33]the imam came with the water they all entered and then the
[41:37]people of medina welcomed rasulullah and they wanted rasulullah to stay at
[41:46]their own houses meaning that every individual wanted the prophet to come
[41:52]to his own house but the prophet told them what he told
[41:55]them to let go of the she camel and it will settle
[42:00]in a specific place wherever it settles he'll resign in the house
[42:08]of the individual uh in front of which his camel will settle
[42:12]so the camel settled where in front of the house of abu
[42:17]alber the prophet chose to reside there and he stayed in his
[42:22]house for a number of months for several months now what happens
[42:30]is when the camel settles in his book it says that the
[42:45]she camel sat down in front of a merband what's a mirabad
[42:49]a mirabad uh is a place in which camels are kept that's
[42:58]a miraban but it has a another meaning as well it's also
[43:03]used to refer to a space behind a house space behind the
[43:07]house like a backyard kind of so the prophet saw that there
[43:12]was a mirabad right beside the house of abu ayoub so when
[43:18]he settled in abu ajub's house he asked about the mirabab to
[43:24]whom did it belong and a man called mahath told him it
[43:28]was for two orphans two orphans hazastat so the prophet said we
[43:38]will please its owners which means that he was thinking of what
[43:41]of buying that specific space why because he wants to build his
[43:49]mosque so since it belonged to the two orphans that the prophet
[43:56]wouldn't take it by force rather he would buy it from the
[44:01]orphans so obviously he bought it or he pleased them in a
[44:14]particular way meaning he compensated the orphans for their mirabad and he
[44:18]turned it into a message here the prophet and the muhajiri mohammed
[44:26]and ansar participated in what in building the mosque the mosque of
[44:32]rasulallah now you might ask is that the same mosque that's present
[44:38]in medina today where the prophet is varied yes it's the same
[44:40]one but it was much smaller it was much smaller uh the
[44:47]the prophetic mosque has been expanded a lot during the days it
[44:54]was also expanded by so this means that when rasulullah initially built
[45:05]the mosque with the help of his companions the mosque was much
[45:12]smaller than it is today was much smaller than it is today
[45:16]but yes in general uh the the mosque with the green dome
[45:22]where the prophet is buried to allah that is the mosque of
[45:27]rasulullah in fact the part where he's buried and its close surroundings
[45:33]are all part of the initial original mosque that was built by
[45:38]the prophet so here rasulullah and some of his companions not all
[45:43]of course as you shall hear but some of them began building
[45:47]the mosque what's interesting is rasulullah was helping rasulullah himself was helping
[45:53]them build the mosque which teaches us a lot that if you
[45:58]want to uh if you want to be a leader a good
[46:00]leader then you can't just sit down and give commands sometimes you
[46:06]need to do that sometimes you have to give a command and
[46:08]other people need to work but sometimes the leader has to participate
[46:16]with his followers you can't just sit down all the time and
[46:20]give commands when your followers see you participating with them your participation
[46:29]will motivate them in fact when they see that you aren't only
[46:37]participating rather you are uh participating with full enthusiasm and you're advancing
[46:44]them in participation that will instill a lot of enthusiasm in their
[46:52]hearts and a lot of positive energy in their hearts as well
[46:55]also it will grant you a lot of respect from your followers
[47:04]here i'd like to share with you a line of poetry some
[47:10]of the companions said when the prophet sallallahu alaihi was working a
[47:17]line of poetry which will confirm whatever we just said regarding the
[47:23]importance of participating with the followers when we are leaders the the
[47:29]the companion says he says if we're going to sit down as
[47:44]the prophet is working then our deed will be a faulty one
[47:49]will be a faulty as it will be at fault if we
[47:54]just sit down as our prophet is working and we're watching him
[48:00]also has interesting lines of poetry here that ibn hisham a sunni
[48:06]scholar mentioned in his book of seerah let me share the lines
[48:13]of poetry the imam [Music] he said those who build the mosques
[48:37]and work uh they work day and night or they work daily
[48:50]as their you know building the mosque those people cannot be compared
[48:55]to individuals who refrain from building mosques so that the dust does
[49:06]not reach them you see there were people who didn't participate in
[49:10]building the mosque of rasulallah they didn't want their bodies or their
[49:14]clothing to become dusty so this is what the imam alaihissalam to
[49:22]such people the imam alayhi salaam is referring when he's saying that
[49:27]you can't compare between a person who's working hard in building the
[49:32]mosque of rasulallah and a person who just stands and actually stands
[49:44]at a distance so he doesn't become dusty the tradition says here
[49:58]um and so he began he began saying the same lines of
[50:14]poetry and the tradition also says another tradition he was carrying two
[50:25]bricks at a time whereas the rest of the companions who were
[50:31]participating in the bill in in building the mosque were carrying one
[50:36]brick at a time ahmad was carrying one brick for himself on
[50:44]his own behalf and one brick on behalf of rasulallah that was
[50:49]his intention so he was reciting these lines of poetry and all
[50:55]of a sudden a particular companion got offended by hammer why because
[51:01]he thought amar was indirectly insulting him that companion was not participating
[51:08]in building the mosque he was actually standing at a distance so
[51:12]that the dust does not reach him so he thought ammar was
[51:19]insulting him hence he got angry who is that companion these questions
[51:34]will be answered next week um
