[25:48]expressed on the mom of Imam Abu Abdullah Hussein and the matters

[25:57]of carala it is the day of that is the 40th of

[26:09]the sh of carala this year his Eminence had recommended that the

[26:27]sh throughout the World commemorate AR together that is with carala and

[26:35]alhamdulillah we all did that as well yesterday we had the AR

[26:45]program but the actual day of AR is today and this is

[26:52]the day on which it is highly recommended to recite the Z

[26:56]of in fact it is cons seed as one of the signs

[27:05]of a sh to recite AR on the day of AR so

[27:09]inshallah after the M I believe we will be reciting zarat of

[27:17]every year during the months of muharam and Safar We Gather to

[27:23]commemorate the marom of Imam Hussein am to remember his great sacrifice

[27:35]and the sacrifices which were made by his family members and Companions

[27:42]and we express our grief and S the day of AR is

[27:50]normally regarded as the last day of AA it is not actually

[27:58]the last day for the sh of B the aak continues until

[28:01]the 8th of R when we will commemorate the Shah the M

[28:09]of our 11th IM IM Hass and offer our condolences to him

[28:18]these days however in the Shia world are known as the days

[28:28]of IM SA in which we remember him and uh what he

[28:36]went through of the difficulties and troubles since we remember this Imam

[28:42]every year and this is the day of AR it is the

[28:47]day that we need to ask this question to ourselves what have

[28:52]we taken from these months yes we perform the rituals we expressed

[28:58]our motions we recited the Maria we had the majalis and wept

[29:05]we put on the black clothes we did the na and these

[29:08]are all rituals I have mentioned this time and again recommended rituals

[29:13]no doubt there is a lot of a andab in them but

[29:18]this is not the objective these are considered as vehicle towards the

[29:26]main objective which is submission to Allah waala it is really time

[29:32]for all of us to assess ourselves on this day what have

[29:40]we benefited from theseis and from these days when we were expressing

[29:44]our s it is of Paramount importance that we understand this because

[29:52]if there is nothing we have taken then every year we'll just

[29:59]pass by and we will not really understand the objective of Imam

[30:03]sacrifice and transform ourselves so it is important that we assess in

[30:14]today's mjus very briefly I would like to share with you two

[30:19]important lessons which we normally derive from muharam and saer when we

[30:26]are remembering uh the Shada of carala and the great sacrifices they

[30:31]made one is of course the lessons are many but I will

[30:37]share just one and two because of the time constraint which we

[30:40]have one of the lessons which we learn from abdah Hussein is

[30:49]that we must preserve protect and proclaim the religion of Islam this

[30:59]is one of the messages of carala and there is no doubt

[31:05]about it we must preserve we must protect and we must proclaim

[31:10]the religion of Islam to others in order to preserve the religion

[31:17]of Islam the most important thing is acquisition ofm acquisition of knowledge

[31:25]and when we are talking about acquisition of knowledge the knowledge here

[31:29]is in reference to the knowledge of Islam the knowledge of Quran

[31:36]the knowledge of traditions the knowledge which gives us an understanding of

[31:42]the lives of the so that we may regard them as role

[31:47]models in life and follow on the path which they have shown

[31:53]to us there are numerous traditions in which importance has been given

[31:59]to ilm to knowledge of course we can sit and we can

[32:04]discuss that knowledge has several branches but here today we are talking

[32:07]about the knowledge of Islam we are talking about knowledge of Quran

[32:11]by this I do not mean that we should leave everything and

[32:18]go and become no this is not what but knowledge what is

[32:21]required for us to remain as practicing Muslims in this life is

[32:29]of Paramount importance the holy prophet Sall Elm that is knowledge is

[32:51]the life of Islam and it is a pillar of Iman so

[32:55]if we want to remain Muslims then it is is important that

[33:02]we acquire knowledge and if we want to strengthen our Iman we

[33:06]want to strengthen our belief in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala then it

[33:11]can only come through acquisition ofm acquisition of knowledge otherwise we will

[33:19]be wavering in our Iman in our faith as we say in

[33:26]Arabic become ha we will neither belong to this group nor to

[33:32]that group we will be blown where the wind blows us this

[33:39]is going to be our situation we will keep doubting in the

[33:43]existence of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala we will keep doubting in the

[33:47]message which the prophets brought in the if we do not have

[33:56]that knowledge so knowledge is very important our a IM has said

[34:07]that my grandfather said that I heard the messenger of Allah says

[34:26]that acquisition of knowledge is is a is an obligation upon every

[34:35]Muslim and then the Imam continues and explains why and among the

[34:41]reasons important reasons he gives for Lay people not the scholars is

[34:46]that it is only through knowledge that Allah is sincerely obeyed it

[34:56]is only through knowledge that that we will be able to keep

[35:03]good relation with our relatives our K and K in this life

[35:08]and it is only through it that we will be able to

[35:13]understand what is lawful and what is unlawful and then the Imam

[35:19]continues and he says knowledge is the IM is the leader of

[35:28]the deed which we perform and deed only follows knowledge so if

[35:40]we are performing deeds in this life and we have no knowledge

[35:45]it's just we are doing because our fathers and forefathers did without

[35:51]having proper understanding of our Dean our religion then this is going

[35:56]to be problematic to us throughout our lives lives we will weav

[35:59]our in our Iman in our faith and we will keep doubting

[36:05]time and again due to different things happening or the events taking

[36:09]place or different people saying different things or what is coming on

[36:13]social media we will start doubting our own Iman and on our

[36:20]own faith when it comes to acquisition of it is important that

[36:26]we know that what is the source of that ilm what is

[36:30]the source of that the reason why I have chosen to talk

[36:35]about this in today's M and thanks to the jamat who have

[36:38]given me this opportunity is because lately I have witnessed or rather

[36:43]we are witnessing so many things happening around us within our society

[36:47]within our community and the most powerful role is being played by

[36:55]the social media at the moment I was in leester just couple

[37:01]of days ago my aunt had passed away may Allah bless her

[37:04]soul I was there and I had an opportunity of sitting with

[37:11]some youths in leester and they brought up this issue they said

[37:14]sh sa on the social media in YouTube and on Instagram we

[37:18]find that people are coming and they are you know talking things

[37:24]and uh um creating doubts within ourselves regarding our own faith they

[37:31]are talking against they are talking about sha they are also talking

[37:35]about the infallibility of our imams and putting doubts in us they

[37:39]are telling us that only the the pan the five are the

[37:44]chosen uh guides from Allah the rest are not chosen divinely by

[37:48]Allah all these things are happening isn't it on social media and

[37:53]they come with so many logical points and you know uh it's

[38:01]mindboggling is you know we we we get confused and we now

[38:03]suddenly feel all these years what we have learned and what we

[38:07]have believed in and what we have been practicing Are all uh

[38:11]worthless and that we have been misguided and so on and so

[38:14]forth social media this is the problem with the social media you

[38:19]will always get on every issue true opinions and both may sound

[38:23]logical isn't it take covid for instance when may Allah protect all

[38:30]of us when we were going through those that phase of covid

[38:34]we had two opinions and both the opinions if you hear were

[38:40]quite intellectual quite logical and quite sensible isn't it there were those

[38:44]who were saying Co is there and there were those saying that

[38:47]this is conspiracy and so many conspiracy theories that came up and

[38:51]people were getting confused and both had logical arguments to do this

[38:57]is what is going to happen to us if the source of

[38:58]our knowledge is going to become social media this is what is

[39:01]going to happen you see I have mentioned this long time AG

[39:06]I'm going to repeat remind the people because in it there is

[39:12]benefit for one of the scholar a good friend of mine was

[39:19]once mentioning that he was invited to recite Ash majis in Kashmir

[39:23]you are from Kashmir aren't you no you aren't you look like

[39:27]a Kashmir though recite salawat so he said a beautiful place um

[39:36]I mean the scenery which is there the mountains and the rivers

[39:41]and the crystal clear water flowing in that I've seen this in

[39:45]a place called B Ali in Afghanistan in 2007 when I went

[39:51]Afghani brothers who are there might know B Ali beautiful scenery somewhat

[39:55]similar in in Kashmir he he says that after the 12 days

[39:59]of muharam my friends took me to one of the Cottages near

[40:05]that River and there were so many other Cottages there and the

[40:09]scenery was wonderful you could actually drink water from that River uh

[40:12]without any filter I mean it was so crystal clear this says

[40:17]next day early in the morning after fuder prayers I left my

[40:20]Cottage to come out to enjoy the atmosphere and the view the

[40:26]beautiful view and suddenly I saw that people people from other Cottages

[40:31]other highed Cottages nearby came out with their garbages and they were

[40:35]throwing it into the river they were just throwing it to the

[40:38]I was taken a back obviously this molana has been living in

[40:43]Canada for 30 years of his life and we know the kind

[40:45]of awareness which we have here about all these things or such

[40:50]things they don't have it over there so he went and complained

[40:52]to the masul over there and he said what is this that

[40:57]is happening so the masul laugh say this is normal over here

[40:59]you see people come they throw their garbage into this River he

[41:06]said but we drink water from this it is crystal clear and

[41:08]we can fall ill we can become sick now people who are

[41:12]living there are probably immune you know nothing will happen to you

[41:16]don't worry I said no no no no really I mean this

[41:20]is dangerous it's going to kill us so I mean I have

[41:23]come here because I was told I'll be benefiting from this he

[41:27]said if you really want to drink pure water this man is

[41:30]telling molana then you go upstream and go from where it begins

[41:39]from where the source is of that River and you will be

[41:43]safe so really when we went up there Upstream to the source

[41:48]from Where the River was flowing it was completely clean and not

[41:54]corrupted and we could drink water imagine 14 00 years agool brought

[42:06]the of Islam to the people he was followed by and the

[42:11]and the river of the knowledge of Islam started from them over

[42:20]the period of 1,400 years how many of garbage has been thrown

[42:23]into this River the Banu umay came and they threw their garbage

[42:27]into it then Banu Abbas came and threw their garbage into it

[42:31]then Banu fat came and they threw their garbage and then the

[42:34]sufis came and put their garbage and then this came and that

[42:39]came until today and nowadays we have refined garbages in the name

[42:43]of modernism that is being thrown into it aren't our souls going

[42:48]to become sick and Ill isn't it going to become sick we

[42:51]have become sick our souls are sick because we have been drinking

[42:58]from these Waters that have been corrupted if we really want to

[43:01]benefit from knowledge we'll have no choice but to go to the

[43:04]source and that is and the during the of our IM The

[43:14]Source are those who have graduated from nowhere but the institution of

[43:20]the and they are our and Mar remember this so this is

[43:27]one of the things which we need to understand you want to

[43:31]become a practicing Muslim make sure that your source of knowledge uh

[43:39]is when was asked what does this verse means that a person

[43:44]should see should be careful what is the source of his food

[43:48]the food here is in reference to knowledge you must be careful

[43:55]where you are seeking your knowledge from so to preserve and to

[44:00]protect your religion you can onlye protect if you have preserved it

[44:04]for yourself you have knowledge and you are practicing the the religion

[44:08]of Islam you need to protect yourselves you need to protect your

[44:13]children n Quran says protect yourselves and your children from the Hellfire

[44:21]of jahanam so don't only practice but make sure you inculcate all

[44:26]these practices and values to your children teach them Quran teach them

[44:31]Hadith guide them and bring them to the path ofo and in

[44:34]addition to that for the sake of protecting there are certain practices

[44:40]that have been highly highly encouraged also one of them is in

[44:47]the society whether it is at home or in the society and

[44:52]joining good and forbidding evil we are living in an era which

[44:55]is the era of mob B mind your own business Islam does

[45:00]not condone this Islam says no no no no it's not mind

[45:03]your own business if you are a Muslim if you are a

[45:07]Believer then in a society of believer there has to be and

[45:13]and in addition to that protect yourselves and your Dean from such

[45:20]people who want to disintegrate you and destroy you because there are

[45:27]lot lot of M they could play with all the other denominations

[45:29]they could play with Judaism they could play with Hinduism they could

[45:32]play and mess around with Christianity as well where is Christianity Today

[45:37]honestly speaking where is it come on in reality is there only

[45:40]by name but Islam has been Untouchable they could not and they

[45:46]are admitting today that it is the most difficult religion to change

[45:50]they are admitting hence we will find that there is a lot

[45:53]of pressure ex coming from uh external sources against Islam it's coming

[45:59]there and not only that people from within us are also being

[46:06]prepared to challenge and hit Islam so we need to protect ourselves

[46:08]from that as well and to protect our religion make sure that

[46:11]it reach is it reaches our children and our generation in the

[46:17]most purest of form and then Proclaim it very very important the

[46:21]verse which I recited in the beginning of my discourse is the

[46:24]last verse I believe of Surah ala and as for the of

[46:35]your lord Proclaim it the Bounty which Allah has granted you you

[46:42]Proclaim it you one of the meanings is that if Allah has

[46:45]given you anything as a bounty he would love to see you

[46:50]making use of those things he loves if Allah has given you

[46:53]wealth he would love to see you using your wealth in halal

[46:58]manner yeah if Allah has G granted you with knowledge that is

[47:01]a from him he loves to see you guiding others and not

[47:04]misguiding others yeah he would love but the interesting thing is that

[47:12]when our I think if I remember correctly Shi in his of

[47:15]this particular verse in states that this question was put to IMD

[47:33]Allah says and as for the As for the Bounty of your

[47:38]lord Proclaim it to others what Bounty is Allah talking about and

[47:42]the Imam said that he is talking about Allah is commanding us

[47:48]to convey his religion of Islam that is the Bounty of Allah

[47:51]subhanahu wa ta'ala upon us and there is no doubt that Islam

[47:56]is one of the greatest of Allah and I'm talking about complete

[48:01]Islam is not half Islam complete Islam includes the of this is

[48:16]and this was this was proclaimed on the day of today I

[48:24]have completed for you your religion and I have completed my favor

[48:35]my upon you and I am now please uh that Islam is

[48:37]your religion the completion kep after the Declaration of the of amiram

[48:46]this is the complete religion Proclaim it we the sh espcially in

[48:55]the west are very very poor in doing we'll find that our

[48:58]Sunni brothers are far ahead than all of us when it comes

[49:02]to conveying The Message of Islam I mean they would not hesitate

[49:05]to go to hide park for example or to other places and

[49:08]uh talk about Islam and challenge people and try to convince them

[49:15]that Islam is the True Religion as for us we have kept

[49:17]ourselves within the four walls no this is our duty it is

[49:25]our responsibility that we go and not everybody body can play that

[49:28]role there are people who have the ability they have to be

[49:32]in the Forefront but they can't do it alone they need support

[49:36]of the community so you know every person needs to play that

[49:40]role even when it comes to for example uh contributing towards T

[49:47]people are usually hesitant yeah they want to for example if theirin

[49:51]pass away they want to print books of Quran you see and

[49:53]there are so many nobody is even using them nowadays they're all

[49:57]using mobile phones to recite Quran and to recite zarat and Dua

[50:00]yet you find that when death occurs people want to keep on

[50:02]Printing and distributing huh they they spend their money in in all

[50:08]these things or when it comes to construction of husia or Masjid

[50:12]it's good there isab in that there is no doubt but if

[50:16]you say that it is for for example to uh publish books

[50:22]yeah in in different languages to reach out to to to non-muslims

[50:27]and invite them to the m of nobody's bother books you know

[50:35]that kind of attitude and in we find that the M of

[50:41]is such that the imams themselves have said that if you were

[50:44]to convey the best of our words to the people the people

[50:50]would be attracted towards us huh they would be attracted towards us

[50:54]but we as Shia Community have actually failed in many ways I

[50:58]remember here in this community at one time we used to have

[51:02]Hussein day Hussein day we used to have you remember brother KH

[51:04]yeah where is it it's not happening anymore even in other communities

[51:09]around us I remember in the early years when I was here

[51:13]there was Hussein de there Hussein there there is no Hussein there

[51:17]anymore in which we used to invite Outsiders we used to invite

[51:20]sunnis we used to invite Christians we used to invite others to

[51:22]come and we used to talk about Imam Hussein they would come

[51:26]and make their own research and come and talk but that's gone

[51:28]that was one of the ways we used to do is finished

[51:33]we never thought about it and it is something so this is

[51:37]one of the lessons I'm not going to talk the second lesson

[51:40]which was also quite important but now my time is finishing otherwise

[51:44]I'll take another half an hour of yours which I don't want

[51:50]to yes I don't want to so this is one of very

[51:52]important lessons which we derive from carala and that is is to

[52:00]preserve to protect and to proclaim the religion of Islam to others

[52:04]and this is one of the a one of the objectives of

[53:24]sons Al and and then on the other side there is gas

[53:27]Shada where all the other martys have been buried but what happened

[53:34]what happened the the family members the women folk were taken as

[53:42]captives on 11th of muharam in the year 61 ah and they

[53:47]were paraded from carala to kufa and from kufa to Sham where

[53:56]they were brought and put into a prison historians write that it

[54:00]is after the death of Hussein that the people in sham started

[54:05]talking against yazid they started abusing yazid and yazid was informed that

[54:14]there is a commotion in public that people have now was a

[54:21]time nobody dared to talk against yazid but now people are mustering

[54:25]courage and they are are talking against you and soon if you

[54:29]do not stop the yes there's going to be a revolution yazid

[54:35]asked what am I supposed to do he was told that you

[54:36]need to release the captives of AD Muhammad from your prison what

[54:42]did yazid do he called for IM who was in the prison

[54:49]in sham and do you know my brothers and sisters what was

[54:52]the situation of say Saad at that time historians right that his

[54:59]legs and his hands were tied with a chain with one chain

[55:04]tying his legs and his hands and he had the shackle or

[55:13]what we call metal collar in U we say around his neck

[55:16]when say Sad was told was brought to the Palace of yazid

[55:24]and he was living the prison Z his aunt stopped him and

[55:32]said say s oh bet oh my son Whoever has left us

[55:33]has never come back I hope that yazid is not going to

[55:38]harm you and he showed his aunt or aunt yazid is not

[55:43]going to do any harm to me allow me to go he

[55:46]left the prison and came to the Darbar to the Palace of

[55:48]yazid historians right at that time yazid was Seated on his throat

[55:55]for the first time when he saw Zid he rose from his

[56:00]place as a mark of respect move forward took Imam Zid by

[56:04]his hand brought him and made him sit next to him and

[56:11]for some time he kept on Staring at say Sad say Sad

[56:17]said to him oh yazid what are you staring at yazid asked

[56:21]him his this question he said oh Al Hussein tell me that

[56:26]this Shackled this metal collar which is around your neck when since

[56:31]when have you been wearing it m do you know what kind

[56:36]of shackle what kind of talk what kind of metal color was

[56:40]that which Imam Zid was made to wear from K it is

[56:45]said in those days the shackles were such that there used to

[56:48]be link be behind them that was usually open which was open

[56:56]to make the prisoner we and the spikes of the shackel used

[57:02]to be on the outside but the talk the metal CER the

[57:05]sh was made to wear on 11th mam was such that there

[57:11]was no link behind to open it and the spikes were in

[57:17]the inner side now you can imagine how this Mal how these

[57:20]enemies must have made this sto where IM they pushed it from

[57:28]his head until it reached his NE because of which say s

[57:32]whenever he used to stand for Salah he used to go into

[57:39]Ru or he used to go into s fresh blood was ooing

[57:44]out from his neck from the wounds which were there on his

[57:47]neck yaid uh Imam said [Music] since 11th of mam I've been

[58:03]made to wear this th a person was called to remove the

[58:06]Shuckle from the neck of IM and then ya tells him Hussein

[58:12]we have granted you we have granted you the permission to now

[58:18]live we have released you from the prison if you want to

[58:20]stay in sham you are most welcome and if you want to

[58:24]go to Medina we will arrange for you to go to Medina

[58:26]is IM Zid Rose from his place telling yazid yazid I'm going

[58:33]to confer this matter with my aunt Z yazid said oh Al

[58:36]Hussein according to Shar According to Islamic law by offering you blood

[58:45]money for your father you can forgive me for his killing Imam

[58:49]looked towards him and he said yes he as I told you

[58:54]I cannot tell you anything without confering the matter with my a

[58:59]z say Sad leaves the Palace of yaid and comes to the

[59:05]prison and do you know what historians have written the women FK

[59:09]of Al Muhammad were all standing beside that small door of the

[59:13]prison waiting eagerly for Zid to come back and when they saw

[59:21]Z for the first time without chains in his legs without chains

[59:25]in his hands and without the shackle around his neck a tears

[59:33]of joy started flowing say Saad comes and informs his aunt Z

[59:36]that I have been told by yazid that we have been freed

[59:41]if we want to live here we'll live here if we want

[59:43]to go to Medina he will arrange Zab said oh say go

[59:48]and tell yazid we will not live here we will go to

[59:54]Medina but first he must vacate a place for us since I

[60:00]have left carala I haven't been able to weep properly over my

[60:06]brother Hussein said oh Aunt Z and he is willing to give

[60:09]us blood money for our father said tell him that this blood

[60:19]money he should give to my mother on the day of a

[60:26]house was vacated in sham the women folk of Al Muhammad were
