Hayder al-Khoei is the Director of Foreign Relations at the Al Khoei Institute, a seminary, public library and dialogue centre in Najaf, Iraq. He was an Associate Fellow of the Middle East and North Africa programmes at Chatham House and the European Council on Foreign Relaitons. His research interests include Middle Eastern history, politics and Islamic studies, and his areas of expertise are Iraq, Iran and clerical authority in Shia Islam. He holds a master’s degree in International Studies and Diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, and a master’s degree in Islamic Studies from the Islamic College, London.

فَتَرَى ٱلَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٞ يُسَٰرِعُونَ فِيهِمۡ يَقُولُونَ نَخۡشَىٰٓ أَن تُصِيبَنَا دَآئِرَةٞۚ فَعَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن يَأۡتِيَ بِٱلۡفَتۡحِ أَوۡ أَمۡرٖ مِّنۡ عِندِهِۦ فَيُصۡبِحُواْ عَلَىٰ مَآ أَسَرُّواْ فِيٓ أَنفُسِهِمۡ نَٰدِمِينَ (52)
وَيَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ أَهَٰٓؤُلَآءِ ٱلَّذِينَ أَقۡسَمُواْ بِٱللَّهِ جَهۡدَ أَيۡمَٰنِهِمۡ إِنَّهُمۡ لَمَعَكُمۡۚ حَبِطَتۡ أَعۡمَٰلُهُمۡ فَأَصۡبَحُواْ خَٰسِرِينَ (53)
