في إحدى القرى الريفية تقام تمثيلية عاشورائية في شهر محرم من كل عام تحاكي شهادة الإمام الحسين (ع) .. "حبيب" الطالب في المدرسة الابتدائية لا يتحمل رؤية شهادة إمامه ،، فينوي بسجيته الطفولية مع أصدقائه منع استشهاد الإمام الحسين (ع) وذلك من خلال إقصاء "الشمر" من التمثيلية التي تقام في قريتهم....

The Beard examines and looks at the issue of identity. Especially at the idea of our appearance and how what we look like can affect other people's perception of us.

Synopsis Long:
The walls of his room are full of pictures with different beard styles. The boy (the main character) is drawing different types of beards which might suit his face. He tries different designs and yet, he couldn't find the right one for himself. After many attempts, he discovers one shape of beard that he feels might represent him and shaves his beard according to it. Soon after, he finds himself in a busy street. Suddenly he feels something strange is going on. The boy touches his beard and thinks something is wrong with his new appearance. He keeps looking back several times while he walks through the street with the feeling that unknown eyes are following him. He walks faster but the continuous presence of the eyes makes him run, he feels desperate tries to escape from that uncomfortable feeling. But the eyes never stop following him. Explaining the story in an unusual style 'The Beard' paves light into the stereotype thinking of society. The Beard is an image which represents the identity of an individual. Relating reality and fiction, the movie gives a picture of how society makes its own metaphors and sense. The film begins with a police officer who is trying to arrest a boy who has a strange beard. She explains that the reason she is following him is because of his uncommon beard; the policewoman gives the voice of the common thought of society. The rest of the story is explained as a flashback. Even though the story has realistic images, it also combines the thoughts of an imaginary boy obsessed about beard and his room full of images with famous characters with beards. The Police officer may be real but the boy and his madness are a result of thoughts that society has about the subject and it represents a broad image. The movie tries to develop a variety of thoughts from a simple image.

ابراس الأبو ابجنح اليتم طارت ولا أقدر أصبرها
والكربلا بالعايله جيت اويا راس احسين أدوّرها

مشهد يشيّب كل نبي وكل قلب صبّار
والنار إذا يوم انطفت شيطفّي هالنار

راس و قطيع منظر فضيع واتشوفه طفله اميتّمه هذا الذي صار

أيوب ما شاف هالشافت بيديها
أيوب يسأل عن الصبر اللي بيها
من شاف طفله يدليني عليها

يمكن إجت مشّايه له سِألوا عن الطفله يمشايه
يمكن لقت راس الابو في صورة مرسومة على الراية

فتشوا مضايفكم إذا طبّت يتيمة
يمكن غفت هالضايعه بظلال خيمة

يمكن يليل صادفها خيل
واتذكرت في كربلا صوت الظليمه

معقول محد لقاها وعطف بيها
ويّاه ياخذها للوالد بيديها
من شاف طفله يدليني عليها

خوف الولي ينظر إِلِي ويسألني عنها بكربلا راسه
وأعرف أنا معنى الضنىٰ وهذي الصغيره التملك احساسه

خوفي أبو فاضل إذا شفته بلا ايدين
يسالني يا طود الصبر بنت الأخو وين

هذي الدوا العيني ضوا
وكل الحوايج تنقضي يم طفلة احسين

حاجات مقضيه للقاصد إليها
لليوم ما صدق إنّ الموت ايجيها
