If there is so much emphasis on religious sciences, shouldn’t we all be focusing on religious sciences? If there is a sufficient number of scholars who are guiding the community, then if a person focuses on a non-religious path but is mindful of his religious obligations and supports religious institutions and projects, it will be hard to say becoming a religious scholar is better. In fact, there are many stories about people who are not scholars, but they had a special status with the Imams. However, if you live in a community where there is a need for a scholar, then becoming a scholar has a greater value in the eyes of Allah SWT. It all comes back to the need of the community and we can serve the community the most.
