[0:06]I begin in the name of the Almighty God, the compassionate, the
[0:12]merciful, the one who has created everything in utmost perfection.
[0:16]And may the peace and blessings of the almighty God be upon
[0:21]his pure and beloved messenger, the peak of his creation, the symbol
[0:29]of humanity, the holy prophet Muhammad Samuhammed and his immaculate progeny of
[0:41]the peace be upon them especially the leader of our time the
[0:45]awaited savior alm May Allah hasten his reappearance and make us all
[0:54]amongst his sincere and dedicated servants.
[0:57]Respected brothers and sisters, one of the very disturbing phenomena that we
[1:11]are experiencing in our modern times is the attempt to replace religion,
[1:20]religious practices, religious rituals with nonreligious ious practices.
[1:29]For instance, I am witnessing in our era the attempt to replace
[1:38]spirituality in religion, prayer, dua, supplication, the vikar of Allah subhanana wa
[1:44]ta'ala, the glorification of God, that being replaced for instance with yoga.
[1:50]I know many people and their intentions are good.
[1:54]I'm not here in a position to judge them.
[1:57]They are searching for spirituality through yoga.
[2:02]I find people in some of our communities who are Muslims.
[2:07]They do not pray.
[2:10]They have no clue whatif is.
[2:13]They have not taken the time and effort to explore their spirituality
[2:19]of dua for example or dua and they resort to yoga and
[2:25]when you ask them why they'll tell you because I want to
[2:28]be spiritual and through yoga I want to connect to my creator.
[2:33]Now the environment in some of these yoga sessions is a pretty
[2:40]disturbing environment.
[2:39]The typical environment is they go to a gym in a room
[2:46]with the opposite gender wearing their tightest clothes that they can and
[2:50]dancing to music.
[2:50]Mashallah for this spirituality inshallah straight to the ar of Allah subhanahu
[2:55]wa ta'ala we are trying to replace religion with these types of
[3:01]practices.
[3:02]Now, yoga as a physical exercise, breathing technique, a lady who's pregnant
[3:08]and has back pain and the doctor tells her to observe some
[3:14]yoga moves, that's fine.
[3:15]But if I want to take spirituality from yoga, that's not how
[3:19]it works.
[3:21]No prophet of Allah, no religion advocated for that.
[3:25]This does not give you spirituality to connect to your creator.
[3:29]You want spirituality, it must go through the path that Allah has
[3:32]given you through Quran, through supplication, through the of Allah subhana wa
[3:38]ta'ala, through the duas of that's how you achieve spirituality.
[3:43]And then we find rituals invented in these nonreligious practices.
[3:51]For instance, do you know that you have the yoga chakra rug?
[3:58]It looks like a prayer rug.
[4:00]They sell it.
[3:59]Go and check it out.
[4:02]Subhan Allah.
[4:04]They have this rug so you can do these yoga moves.
[4:05]And the prayer rug is for us an opportunity to pray to
[4:11]Allah subhanana wa ta'ala.
[4:11]So let's replace all of that.
[4:12]Forget your daily prayer.
[4:14]Go sit on a yoga rug and you can have your own
[4:16]meditation.
[4:17]Even many types of meditation today are used to replace religion.
[4:25]One type of meditation is blank meditation.
[4:28]When you sit and you do nothing, you sit there in a
[4:34]certain gesture, posture.
[4:35]You're familiar with it, right?
[4:36]And for an hour, you're supposed to think of nothing and do
[4:40]nothing.
[4:43]Just go blank in your mind.
[4:47]Now, in Islam, we don't have such type of meditation.
[4:50]Islamic purposeful meditation is when you sit, you review your day, you
[4:55]examine how you can better yourself, you think of the you think
[5:00]of death.
[4:59]That's good meditation.
[5:02]You remember Allah subhana t that's good meditation.
[5:04]But for you to sit an hour and do nothing, that is
[5:08]not purposeful meditation.
[5:08]No prophet of God ever advocated for that.
[5:12]But we are told in modern society, you don't need dua, you
[5:15]don't need prayer, you don't need salah.
[5:17]Just sit and meditate and you're fine.
[5:20]Another attempt at replacing religion is what is called manifestation and certain
[5:27]aspects of the law of attraction.
[5:30]And in our discussion tonight, we will examine the law of attraction
[5:36]as Muslims.
[5:36]How do we make sense of this law?
[5:38]Is there truth to it?
[5:41]What is it that we accept from this law?
[5:44]And what is it that we reject?
[5:46]Now let's briefly define the law of attraction and see how there's
[5:53]an attempt to use it to replace religion.
[5:54]In very simple terms, the law of attraction means when you have
[6:02]positive thoughts, a positive mindset, you can attract good positive outcomes.
[6:11]Now there are many variations of this law.
[6:15]You will find books written on this law.
[6:18]But at a very basic level that's what it means.
[6:22]The law of attraction also means that your thoughts create feelings.
[6:30]You can create positive feelings or negative feelings.
[6:35]If you create positive feelings, you will generate positive vibrations in the
[6:42]universe and you will attract good outcomes that match these vibrations.
[6:49]And if you have negative thoughts, you will create negative feelings.
[6:54]And once you create negative feelings, you will generate negative vibrations in
[7:00]the universe.
[6:59]And that will attract negative outcomes that match that vibration.
[7:04]That is the basic principle of the law of attraction.
[7:10]Let's now take our Islamic glasses and analyze this law from an
[7:17]Islamic perspective.
[7:18]Do we entirely reject this law or there are aspects of this
[7:22]law that we can accept and then there are aspects that are
[7:25]problematic that we reject and we in fact see it as an
[7:32]attempt to replace religion.
[7:32]Today, let's start with four concerns that we have with the law
[7:38]of attraction.
[7:39]Number one, when we examine the law of attraction, we find that
[7:47]in reality there is an attempt to remove God from the picture.
[7:52]Because many types or variations of the law of attraction, they tell
[7:57]you that if you keep thinking of positive things, you keep wishing
[8:05]for something, somehow mysteriously the universe is going to deliver that to
[8:11]you, the universe is going to make it happen to you.
[8:14]Now when I ask them, who exactly is the universe?
[8:19]When you say the universe is going to do wonders for you,
[8:25]if you have a positive mindset, let's say all you think of
[8:29]is to become a millionaire or to become the CEO of X
[8:33]company and you think of this every single day.
[8:36]Every single day that's on your mind.
[8:38]You think of it.
[8:38]You think of it.
[8:40]The law of attraction says eventually the universe will use all of
[8:43]its mysterious powers to make that happen.
[8:45]So my question is when you say the universe, who are you
[8:47]referring to?
[8:50]Who's the universe?
[8:54]Mars, Jupiter, the Milky Way galaxy, a black hole somewhere in the
[9:00]universe.
[9:01]Who's the universe that you're referring to?
[9:02]So in reality, you find that there is an attempt to remove
[9:06]God from the picture and tell you that wonders will happen in
[9:09]your life, but it's the universe that will make it happen.
[9:14]This contradicts the teachings of the monotheistic religions that tell us Allah
[9:20]is in charge.
[9:22]Who created the universe?
[9:22]Allah subhana wa ta'ala.
[9:25]This whole system of cause AND EFFECT.
[9:28]GOD IS THE one who created that.
[9:29]Allah has a system.
[9:30]He's determined many variables.
[9:31]And yes, he's given you some free will to determine your own
[9:36]fate, too.
[9:37]But everything in the universe is in the hands of Allah.
[9:40]Nothing happens without a cause.
[9:42]Nothing happens without a variable that Allah has created.
[9:48]Allah states in the holy Quran anything that happens even misfortunes calamities
[10:00]tragedies problems trials whether on earth on land or in your own
[10:04]nefs in your own self Allah has a record of it Allah
[10:09]knows of it he's written it in a book so nothing mysteriously
[10:16]happens in the universe without God.
[10:18]Allah subhana t is the ultimate guide and cause in this universe.
[10:23]SO THAT IS the first observation that we have when it comes
[10:27]to the law of attraction.
[10:31]It seems that there is an attempt to remove God from the
[10:33]picture.
[10:34]There's no God.
[10:36]Just wish for good things and somehow the universe is going to
[10:39]make it happen.
[10:40]That's not how it works.
[10:41]Who is the universe that you're referring to?
[10:44]Allah is the one who can make things happen.
[10:48]So that's the first observation.
[10:53]The second observation, yes, we will get to the positives of this
[10:57]law and some of the advantages of this law.
[11:02]We'll talk about that.
[11:02]When you think of something and you're positive, you are more likely
[11:06]to achieve it.
[11:08]However, it does not mean that anything you wish for and you
[11:13]think of, you will get it.
[11:13]Sometimes Allah will intervene and it will not happen even if you
[11:19]think of it a h 100 times a day because sometimes Allah
[11:21]sees that this is not good for you.
[11:22]If you're a M, if you're a believer and you're asking for
[11:27]something that is not good for you, Allah subhana t may stop
[11:29]it.
[11:30]So it's not true that anytime you wish for something or you
[11:37]constantly positively think of something, you will get it.
[11:38]Many times you will and you will not get it because it's
[11:42]not in your interest or Allah wants to try you.
[11:46]So that's the second observation we have.
[11:46]The third observation is that some people when trying to implement the
[11:54]law of attraction they fall into the trap of wishful thinking.
[11:57]When you read about manifestation and the law of attraction, sometimes you
[12:01]hear youth on social media discussing it this way or thinking about
[12:07]it this way that you basically just sit in your room and
[12:13]a 100 times a day think of getting that job and eventually
[12:16]you'll get it.
[12:18]That's not how the world works.
[12:19]You have to make the effort.
[12:21]Positive thinking by itself will not give you results.
[12:26]It must be coupled with action.
[12:28]Allah states in the holy Quran you will not get accept that
[12:38]which you work for.
[12:37]So I feel some of the youth they fall into this trap.
[12:42]They think why should I go to college and get a PhD
[12:46]and work so hard to establish a business?
[12:48]me let me sit in my house and think of becoming a
[12:50]millionaire for 6 months for a year and somehow inshallah I'll become
[12:54]a millionaire that's not how it works this is wishful thinking be
[13:00]positive think positively have hope work hard but that's the key work
[13:06]hard without working hard you will not get anywhere you must make
[13:13]the effort so this is the trap that some people fall into
[13:16]when they embrace the law of attraction and the world of manifestation.
[13:20]The fourth concern that we have with the law of attraction is
[13:25]that you are basically given the impression and this can be very
[13:31]toxic my dear brothers and sisters that if you are going through
[13:34]trials and difficulties in your life it's because you're not positive enough.
[13:38]I hear some people say that you're going through a disease, financial
[13:44]crisis, family crisis because your mindset is not a proper mindset.
[13:48]Start having a positive mindset, all your problems will be solved.
[13:52]That is not true.
[13:54]Sometimes you have people who are very optimistic, very positive.
[13:57]They have the best mindset.
[13:58]But Allah is trying them through that health crisis, financial crisis, family
[14:04]crisis.
[14:10]If Allah loves one of his servants, a human being, Allah will
[14:16]drown him in balah.
[14:17]Allah will drown him in difficulty, in hardship.
[14:22]I know this is very difficult for us to digest.
[14:27]How could a loving merciful Lord do that?
[14:27]But it's because he's merciful and loving that he's doing that.
[14:33]Because Allah subhana ta is your ultimate coach.
[14:34]Allah sees your weaknesses and through these trials, Allah is inviting you
[14:41]to address your weaknesses.
[14:42]And that's what a good coach does.
[14:47]You as a good coach, if you're coaching one of your team
[14:49]members to play ping pong table, table tennis, whatever it is, and
[14:52]you realize that player has a weakness in his left arm, you
[14:59]as a good coach, where do you keep striking?
[15:02]Right side or left side?
[15:06]Which side?
[15:07]Left side.
[15:09]Right.
[15:09]Why is it to embarrass that team member?
[15:12]Because you are going to embarrass him a few times.
[15:16]Is it to make him suffer because you enjoy seeing him suffer?
[15:19]You realize that he has a weakness in his left arm.
[15:24]So you'll keep striking on the left side for him to strengthen
[15:29]his left arm because that's what a good coach does.
[15:32]If you have a personal trainer at a gym, halal gym, inshallah,
[15:36]if you have a personal trainer, who's a good trainer?
[15:40]A trainer who gets you to your goal in the most efficient
[15:43]way possible.
[15:44]Imagine if one day you show up to the gym to your
[15:48]trainer and the trainer says, "Hhabibi, I've got very good news for
[15:51]you.
[15:52]Today, no pain, no suffering, no 5 hour difficult workout.
[15:54]I brought you a pizza.
[15:56]Let's sit and watch a movie for the next five hours." Will
[16:00]you accept that?
[16:01]If you get a refund, maybe.
[16:04]But will you accept that?
[16:04]You will tell him, "That's not why I came here.
[16:07]I did not come here to eat pizza.
[16:08]I came here for a good workout.
[16:09]In fact, I want you to make me suffer.
[16:12]I came here to suffer because I have a goal.
[16:16]I want to be fit.
[16:18]I want to shed x amount of pounds." Allah subhana t, if
[16:20]he makes you suffer, it's because Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is elevating
[16:24]you.
[16:25]He's coaching you.
[16:27]He's strengthening you.
[16:28]So if you're going through problems and trials in your life, it
[16:33]doesn't necessarily mean that you have a bad mindset.
[16:34]You have a corrupted mindset.
[16:36]You're not positive enough as some people claim.
[16:39]For some people that may be the case, but for others that
[16:43]may not be the case.
[16:44]Sometimes you could be the most positive person, but Allah wants to
[16:46]try you.
[16:48]Allah wants to elevate you.
[16:51]So we find these four concerns, my dear brothers and sisters, with
[16:55]the law of attraction.
[16:55]Having said that, let's now examine what we as Muslims can accept
[17:01]from the law of attraction because there are positive elements of it
[17:07]that we can accept.
[17:08]In fact, way before the law of attraction, you find verses in
[17:12]the holy Quran and hadith from the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasall and
[17:16]his family that have pointed to some of these points that people
[17:20]today attribute to the law of attraction.
[17:22]Let's examine them.
[17:23]Number one, the law of attraction tells you that when you have
[17:32]a positive mindset and you act upon it, you generate vibrations in
[17:37]the universe and those vibrations attract certain outcomes that match the vibration.
[17:46]Is there any truth to that?
[17:48]Yes, there is truth to that to an extent.
[17:52]When you a human being when you commit a deed when you
[17:56]do an action in this life there's a ripple effect to this
[18:03]action that can reach the other side of the universe and that
[18:09]invites you to reexamine what you do during your day.
[18:13]Sometimes I think my action is very limited.
[18:16]It's just in my room in my house in my community.
[18:17]But in reality it has a ripple impa effect that can reach
[18:23]the other side of the universe.
[18:26]That's how powerful your deed can be.
[18:27]In one of the z of IM Hussein which states it's the
[18:34]most most authentic z of Im Hussein.
[18:36]There's a powerful passage that states the following.
[18:49]In one of the visitations of Im Hussein, you say, "Oh Abdah,
[18:55]I bear witness that your blood that was spilled unjustly, that your
[19:02]blood, it reached eternity and it dwells eternity.
[19:08]Your blood became eternal.
[19:12]The shadows or the shades of God's throne were shaken and the
[19:19]shadows of creation meaning all of creation was shaken.
[19:21]The martyrdom of Imam Hussein was so significant.
[19:27]The act of killing him was so evil it shook the entire
[19:30]universe.
[19:31]If you were able to see the reality of this universe, if
[19:36]you could see behind the veils, the metaphysical aspect of this universe,
[19:40]you would see the universe shaken to its core when Imam Hussein
[19:45]was killed.
[19:45]and even our daily sins.
[19:48]My dear brothers and sisters, according to one hadith, Allah subhana t
[19:51]said to prophet Jesus, he tells him, "Oh, Isa, when a person
[19:55]takes a false oath in me, you take an oath in Allah
[20:01]and you lie.
[20:03]Lying is a big sin." Now, when you take a false oath
[20:06]in God's name, it's even a bigger sin.
[20:10]Allah subhana t tells prophet Isaam the one who takes a false
[20:17]oath in my name my throne is shaken by that means you
[20:23]small little creature here on earth with this sin you can shake
[20:26]the throne of God and to the contrary to the opposite if
[20:32]you do a good deed it has a ripple impact in the
[20:33]universe it has a ripple effect it generates positivity throughout the universe
[20:39]And the system behind that is angels.
[20:42]The angels take your good deeds and they take it to the
[20:47]Allah.
[20:47]They take it to the heavens.
[20:48]Your good deeds generate a vibration, a spiritual vibration in the universe
[20:53]that the entire universe can feel your good deeds.
[20:58]So this aspect is something that we can embrace and we can
[21:03]accept because we have teachings in Islam that point to this direction.
[21:07]And this should remind us never to underestimate our deeds.
[21:11]Never underestimate it.
[21:14]Imagine.
[21:14]Imagine the inhabitants of the universe.
[21:16]And we don't know who's out there in the universe.
[21:21]Billions and trillions of angels, heavenly creatures.
[21:22]There may be life out there.
[21:27]Imagine your deed impacting all of that.
[21:28]That's big.
[21:30]And imagine your good deeds sending these good signals to the universe.
[21:35]So this first aspect of the law of attraction is something that
[21:40]yes we can accept.
[21:42]Let's move to the second point.
[21:47]The second aspect is the the positive element in the law of
[21:53]attraction tells you that with op optimism with a positive mindset you
[21:58]can achieve anything.
[21:58]Yes there is some truth to that.
[22:01]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in Islam teaches us to realize our full
[22:06]potential.
[22:07]Never put a limitation for yourself.
[22:10]Allah has created you.
[22:14]Allah has given you faculties.
[22:17]Allah has given you so many different powers and capacities.
[22:19]Realize your full potential.
[22:23]The problem of the average human being is that he or she
[22:26]underestimates their potential.
[22:31]Imam famously and beautifully said in these lines of poetry that are
[22:36]attributed to him, you presume you claim that you're some small entity.
[22:41]I'm just a small little human being here on earth.
[22:47]But in reality, the big universe is infolded in you.
[22:53]Don't underestimate yourself.
[22:53]The entire universe is infolded in you.
[22:57]Which means you the human being you have a great capacity.
[23:00]You can be connected to your lord to your creator.
[23:04]Allah is infinite.
[23:07]And when you connect yourself to an infinite source the results can
[23:13]be infinite.
[23:14]Don't presume you're just some small entity.
[23:15]Don't put limitations on yourself.
[23:19]With a strong willpower you can achieve anything.
[23:23]Imam also said, "Have you seen how a bird flies?" The Imam
[23:32]says, "You can also fly." Now, not with physical wings, but with
[23:38]your willpower.
[23:36]With your willpower, you have the capacity to fly.
[23:41]You can achieve anything.
[23:42]Yes, be realistic, but you can achieve anything.
[23:46]So, this is something that we fully embrace in the religion of
[23:51]Islam.
[23:52]Never underestimate yourself.
[23:52]Never say, "I'm not able to do that.
[23:55]I can't pull this off." You can be strong.
[23:58]Have the willpower and ask Allah to help you and see how
[24:01]Allah subhana t will do wonders for you.
[24:05]In 1954, an interesting record was broken.
[24:11]It was believed before 1954 that no human being would be able
[24:19]to run a mile in less than four minutes.
[24:22]Impossible.
[24:22]Human beings just don't have the physical stamina and the physical capacity
[24:27]to achieve that to pull that off.
[24:30]What happened in 1954?
[24:32]In 1954, this record was broken by the British athlete Roger Banister.
[24:40]He managed to run a mile in 3 minutes and 53 seconds.
[24:50]He broke the record.
[24:51]Now, here's the interesting part.
[24:53]In the next 12 months, over 20 runners were able to run
[25:02]a mile in less than four minutes.
[25:04]Why?
[25:05]What changed?
[25:06]The mile is still the same mile.
[25:11]It's not like they shortened the mile, right?
[25:12]The bodies are the same bodies.
[25:16]How come before 1954 those runners could not pull it off?
[25:19]But once Roger Bannister pulled it off, 20 other athletes pulled it
[25:26]off too within the next year.
[25:29]Why?
[25:30]What happened?
[25:29]What changed?
[25:32]Perception.
[25:31]Before 1954, they believed it was impossible.
[25:34]And when you believe something is impossible, it becomes impossible.
[25:38]you're very unlikely to do that which you think is impossible.
[25:43]But now that you had a human being break that record, it
[25:47]was proof to them that you can.
[25:51]If Roger did it, why can't I?
[25:53]Because they believed in their capacity to break that record.
[25:55]They in fact broke that record.
[25:58]That shows you that the human being puts limitations on himself.
[26:02]When you remove those limitations, you can achieve the unthinkable.
[26:06]Another example is in 1939 there was a math student or student
[26:13]in statistics and math by the name of George Danik.
[26:15]Have you heard of George Danik?
[26:18]He was a very famous mathematician and statistician.
[26:20]What he did in 1939 was amazing.
[26:25]One day he goes to class at the University of California in
[26:31]Berkeley.
[26:33]He goes to class late.
[26:33]So he sees two problems on the board.
[26:37]He writes them down.
[26:39]He goes home to solve them.
[26:41]These this is his homework.
[26:42]Now he realized that the problems were a bit too difficult.
[26:47]They were not your average homework problem.
[26:50]But he manages to solve them and he submits it to his
[26:52]professor.
[26:53]His teacher his teacher goes crazy.
[26:56]After a while when the professor was grading it and he realized
[27:01]he solved it, he contacted him.
[27:03]Come, George, what's going on here?
[27:04]He told him, "What do you mean?" He's like, "How did you
[27:06]solve this?" He's like, "Well, I admit it was a bit difficult,
[27:10]but I solved it.
[27:10]Why?" He's like, "No, really, how did you solve it?" He's like,
[27:14]"I solved it.
[27:14]This is the homework that you gave us, and I solved it.
[27:17]What's the big deal?" He told him, "No, that was not your
[27:18]homework." He's like, "Then what was it?" He's like, I was giving
[27:25]an example of two open problems in math and statistics that no
[27:28]one has been able to solve.
[27:30]Not even Einstein has been able to solve it.
[27:33]I was giving an example of that.
[27:34]He's like, "Oh, I thought that was my homework." And his his
[27:40]professor was fascinated and he told him, "These two problems make that
[27:44]your thesis.
[27:45]This is amazing.
[27:44]You discovered an answer.
[27:48]No scientist has ever done THAT BEFORE." WHY WAS George Donsik able
[27:53]to do that?
[27:53]What was different about him in class that day from other classmates?
[27:59]Other classmates, the minute their professor told them, "These are problems Einstein
[28:05]couldn't even solve," that's it.
[28:07]The brain shuts down.
[28:11]The ambition shuts down.
[28:11]If these are open-ended problems, open problems in math and no one
[28:16]has been able to solve them, who am I to solve them?
[28:19]See, you put the limitation.
[28:20]It's a mental barrier limitation that you put on yourself.
[28:24]Whereas George, he came late to class, so he thought it was
[28:30]a math problem, homework.
[28:30]Obviously, your teacher when he gives you homework, you can do it.
[28:34]Teachers are not going to give you homework that you cannot solve.
[28:39]So, in his mind, he was sure that you could solve it
[28:41]because it's my homework.
[28:42]Because he was so sure of solving it, he actually solved it.
[28:47]And that shows you the power of willpower.
[28:51]It can do wonders.
[28:54]Asam stated, you can fly with your two wings just like a
[29:00]bird flies with its two wings.
[29:01]But your wings are your him are your willpower, your ambition.
[29:07]So one positive element in the law of attraction is that if
[29:13]you focus on positive ideas, a positive mindset, you can actually achieve
[29:17]good results.
[29:18]And that's something that we believe in the power of belief, the
[29:22]power of the power of im your nia and your intention can
[29:30]do wonders.
[29:26]As I beautifully states, If your body is weak, your nia is
[29:39]strong.
[29:40]Your nia can compensate.
[29:44]Meaning your willpower can compensate.
[29:46]Your positive thinking can compensate for that.
[29:48]How do you think Ali lifted the door of when the Imam
[29:54]would barely eat any food?
[29:55]How did he do that?
[29:58]Many people ask.
[29:57]It's the power of his im.
[30:00]It's the power of his faith.
[30:01]when he felt connected to Allah and he wanted to bring the
[30:06]victory of Allah he had the power of 40 men to carry
[30:08]the gate of that's what willpower can do to you so this
[30:13]is a positive element that we can accept number three one of
[30:18]the elements of the law of attraction is what's called good karma
[30:22]or bad karma in Islam do we believe in the system of
[30:27]karma at a basic level without going into the details of other
[30:35]religions, what Hinduism says, what Buddhism says.
[30:38]No, at a basic level that when you do something, it will
[30:43]come back to you.
[30:43]If it's good, you'll receive good results.
[30:46]If it's bad, you'll receive bad results.
[30:49]What goes around comes around.
[30:51]Do we believe in that at a basic level?
[30:54]Absolutely.
[30:53]I'll share with you several verses from the Quran to demonstrate that.
[31:00]Number one, Allah subhana wa ta'ala in surah Toba verse 98, he
[31:04]speaks about those hypocrite bedins, Allah describes one of their qualities.
[31:17]Some of those better, they believe that when they donate to charity,
[31:22]it's a loss for them.
[31:26]It's a fine like I'm getting fined.
[31:28]Zakat is like a fine.
[31:29]You know when you get fined by the police they believe that
[31:35]donating charity zakat whatever it is that is actually a fine.
[31:39]They hated that.
[31:42]And then the Quran states they wish misfortune on the believers because
[31:52]they're hypocrites.
[31:54]They would wish that bad things happen to the believers.
[31:58]The Quran says the misfortune is going to hit them.
[32:03]What does this verse indicate?
[32:07]This verse indicates that when you wish evil on others, this act
[32:11]of wishing evil on others is actually going to go back and
[32:14]haunt you one day.
[32:17]That's very important.
[32:18]Intentions are very important.
[32:19]I could be sitting in my house and not harming anyone, but
[32:24]I sit and I wish my cousin is destroyed, right?
[32:26]My friend, I wish he'd die and he'd lose his wealth and
[32:32]he'd fail his MCAT because I didn't get the score that I
[32:34]wanted and he's going to OUT COMPETE ME.
[32:36]YOU'RE NOT DOING ANYTHING.
[32:38]In fact, you don't even talk to your friends about it.
[32:40]You keep it in your heart, but you sit there and wish
[32:46]evil.
[32:43]Honestly, you're not generating good vibrations in the universe when you do
[32:49]that.
[32:50]And this was the quality of those.
[32:57]They wished that bad things happened to the believers.
[33:01]Allah responds to them and threatens them by saying the misfortune is
[33:07]going to hit them.
[33:07]Because when you wish evil on people, eventually the evil is going
[33:12]to come back to you.
[33:12]This is one of the laws of the system of Allah subhanahu
[33:16]wa ta'ala.
[33:18]That's one verse.
[33:18]Another verse is verse 43.
[33:22]Allah states there are some people they're arrogant and they scheme evil
[33:40]plots.
[33:38]Allah subhana ta states These evil plots that you concoct, they will
[33:48]come back to strike you and they will engulf you and they
[33:54]will affect you.
[33:53]And that's the basic law of karma.
[33:56]You plot evil plots for other people, eventually those plots will come
[34:02]to get you.
[34:02]They will come to hurt you.
[34:06]They'll come to make you fail.
[34:06]So this part of the law of attraction is something that we
[34:09]can accept.
[34:10]Yes.
[34:11]If you have a negative evil mindset and you wish evil on
[34:14]people and in fact you act upon this evil mindset, it will
[34:20]come back to attract negativity to you.
[34:24]It will attract to you.
[34:25]That is something that we Muslims believe in.
[34:29]Another verse in the Holy Quran also refers to this law of
[34:33]karma that affects your family.
[34:40]God forbid.
[34:36]Allah states in verse 9, Allah states before you say something evil
[34:55]and bad like you ruin someone's reputation you cause fitna you name
[35:01]it and before you do something bad in society think of your
[35:09]progeny think of your future family because it's the law of this
[35:12]world.
[35:13]It's the law of Allah that when you do good to other
[35:15]families, the world will be structured by Allah to do good to
[35:22]your family and to your children.
[35:23]And when you harm other families, there is a threat to us.
[35:31]Your family can be harmed in the future.
[35:34]That is the basic law of karma.
[35:35]Be good to others.
[35:36]Others will be good to your future children, to your future family.
[35:41]And if you are bad to other people, your children might be
[35:45]in a negative environment.
[35:46]And they will be the target of a lot of hate.
[35:51]Sometimes we think we're strong.
[35:52]I have a strong social position.
[35:53]I have the connections.
[35:55]I oppress this family, that family.
[35:59]I cause fna.
[35:57]I ruin this life.
[36:00]Be careful.
[36:00]Maybe in your lifetime, you'll get away with it in dunya.
[36:03]Of course, not on the day of judgment, but your family will
[36:05]suffer one day.
[36:07]And subhan Allah, we've seen that happening every single day around the
[36:11]world.
[36:11]This is one of the laws of this life, my dear brothers
[36:17]and sisters.
[36:15]So, this is an aspect that we can accept.
[36:19]Karma does exist and Allah subhana t is the one who created
[36:26]this system.
[36:27]Do good, you'll be doing good to yourself.
[36:30]And if you do badum, if you do go do bad, you
[36:37]will be the first victim of your evil deeds.
[36:40]That is the basic law of karma.
[36:41]And this should make us think twice before we do something wrong.
[36:47]My dear brothers and sisters, so this aspect of the law of
[36:50]attraction is something that we can definitely accept.
[36:54]Being optimistic in itself is something that we accept.
[36:56]Many studies have shown that when people who are optimistic, the rates
[37:00]of depression are less, their health is better, they're happier.
[37:06]Be optimistic.
[37:04]You as a mman, you have Allah.
[37:09]Something that maybe others don't have that connection.
[37:12]One of the most beautiful statements in the Quran for me is
[37:16]this one.
[37:18]My dear brothers and sisters, the Muslim army was suffering at the
[37:22]time of the prophet in the battlefield.
[37:24]They're being attacked by these pagans.
[37:26]They were bleeding, suffering.
[37:28]You know how Allah comforted them?
[37:32]It's such a beautiful statement.
[37:33]Allah subhana t tells them, look, if you are suffering, you're bleeding,
[37:41]you're fatigued, you're exhausted, you have casualties.
[37:43]Your enemy is also suffering.
[37:45]They also have casualties.
[37:48]They're also bleeding.
[37:51]But then, but then look at the Quran.
[37:56]but what you hope from Allah is something that they don't.
[38:01]They don't believe in God.
[38:03]They don't believe there is heaven and hell.
[38:06]They're suffering, but they don't believe anyone was going to compensate them.
[38:09]You die and you become dust.
[38:10]This was the belief of the pagans.
[38:12]But you, the believer, you're suffering.
[38:14]You have Allah.
[38:15]You know God is watching.
[38:17]He's there.
[38:18]He's acknowledging your pain.
[38:19]Allah subhana t is going to compensate you.
[38:22]Can you compare that with an atheist who has no such belief?
[38:25]Can you compare that?
[38:28]My dear brothers and sisters, you know, one of the biggest crimes
[38:33]of atheism is what?
[38:33]It literally is a crime.
[38:36]I know legally it's not a crime, but if you look at
[38:39]it from a humanitarian perspective, it's a crime.
[38:42]I'll give you this example.
[38:44]Imagine if there's a child suffering, a child who was born with
[38:48]a disability, and this child is suffering every day.
[38:50]You know what the atheist tells him?
[38:53]Now the atheist may not say these words, but the atheistic belief
[38:59]boils down to that.
[39:00]You know what the atheist tells that child?
[39:02]Hey buddy, look, you're suffering.
[39:04]Too bad.
[39:05]There's no God up there.
[39:06]There's no day of judgment.
[39:08]You're going to suffer and suffer till you die and too bad.
[39:12]That's just how the world works.
[39:13]And nobody's going to compensate you on the day of judgment.
[39:16]Contrast that to a believer who comes to the boy and says,
[39:23]"Habibi, life is short.
[39:24]You're suffering, but you have Allah.
[39:26]He acknowledges your pain." And then on the day of judgment for
[39:29]infinity, Allah will put you in the highest ranks of heaven.
[39:33]Can you compare between these two?
[39:35]Wallah, that first one is a crime.
[39:37]When you tell suffering people that it sit suffer for the rest
[39:39]of your life, too bad, you're going to become dust and there's
[39:45]no compensation.
[39:43]That's a crime against their humanity.
[39:48]If you don't know whether God is there or not, just shut
[39:52]up and don't say anything.
[39:54]Don't go and say there is no God.
[39:57]There is no heaven.
[39:57]There's no hell.
[39:59]There's no compensation.
[39:59]When you say that, that's an act of crime.
[40:05]Forgive me, but this is the reality, my dear brothers and sisters.
[40:10]That's the reality.
[40:09]That's why atheism is a crime.
[40:11]You're basically telling the whole world and anybody out there who's suffering,
[40:16]that's it.
[40:17]Too bad.
[40:19]You're just unlucky.
[40:18]Too bad.
[40:19]There's no compensation for you whatsoever.
[40:23]Don't say that.
[40:25]Don't say God doesn't exist.
[40:26]How do you know God doesn't exist?
[40:28]That's the peak of arrogance and ignorance.
[40:31]The most thing you want to say, don't say it.
[40:35]But if you need to talk, okay, say, "I don't know.
[40:38]I don't know." But don't come out and say God does not
[40:42]exist.
[40:42]That's a crime.
[40:45]Spiritually, that's a crime.
[40:46]Intellectually, that's a crime.
[40:48]You are harassing billions of people who are suffering when you tell
[40:54]them God doesn't exist.
[40:54]That's the reality.
[40:57]That is the reality.
[40:58]That's why Islam considers atheism the peak of arrogance and irresponsibility.
[41:04]So my dear brothers and sisters, when we examine the system of
[41:13]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and we examine the law of attraction, we
[41:18]do find that there are many elements that we can accept.
[41:21]But again, we cannot use this to replace religion.
[41:25]We cannot use this to eliminate God from the picture and say
[41:29]that the universe somehow mysteriously is going to do wonders for you.
[41:35]That's not how it works.
[41:36]And then finally, my dear brothers and sisters, whenever you discuss this
[41:40]topic with your friends, manifestation, law of attraction, one of the most
[41:45]powerful elements is dua.
[41:46]Never underestimate the power of dua.
[41:50]You know, they tell you wish for positive things and it happens.
[41:54]Yes, that's true.
[41:54]But that happens through dua.
[41:57]When you resort to Allah and you pray for the best and
[42:02]you wish for the p best, never lose hope.
[42:10]Never ever lose hope from the mercy of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[42:16]And that's the message of the month of Ramadan, my dear brothers
[42:19]and sisters.
[42:21]Never lose hope.
[42:20]Never underestimate the power of dua.
[42:24]A dua is gamecher.
[42:26]Even if there's a fate that's written for you, even if there's
[42:32]a tragedy that's coming your way, it's imminent.
[42:34]One dua from your sincere heart can change all of that.
[42:43]The Quran says, "If it weren't for your supplications and duas, Allah
[42:48]subhana would not would not have blessed you the way he is
[42:50]blessing you." And dua is not only for Muslims.
[42:53]Non-Muslims also they have their own way of dua and connecting to
[42:56]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[42:58]Even if a non-Muslim supplicates to Allah, Allah may answer them.
[43:02]Anyone who connects to Allah, Allah may answer them.
[43:05]Dua is one of the most powerful tools that Allah has given
[43:11]you as a believer.
[43:12]That's what I states.
[43:22]Your power, your weapon is your tears and your dua.
[43:27]Tears because it indicates you're sincere.
[43:30]When your heart is broken and you do dua, Allahh accepts that
[43:35]from you.
[43:36]My dear brothers and sisters, about 50 years ago, and I'll conclude
[43:40]by sharing this incident with you.
[43:43]About 50 years ago, there was a boy in Kuwait who was
[43:46]playing with his friends.
[43:49]Unfortunately, on that day, as he was playing, kids were playing.
[43:54]You know those old guns with the plastic dart?
[43:56]What do you call those guns?
[44:01]Nerf guns.
[43:59]Yeah, let's say the Nerf guns.
[44:05]This 10year-old boy got shot in his right eye with that Nerf
[44:10]dart.
[44:09]So they took him to the hospital and for 40 days he
[44:15]was hospitalized.
[44:15]One day the doctor who was a Palestinian Christian doctor, he was
[44:20]not a Muslim doctor.
[44:20]He said to the father of this boy, "Look, your son is
[44:27]losing his eyesight.
[44:27]I can't do anything.
[44:30]We doctors cannot do anything.
[44:31]So whatever you believe in, your god, your religion, go and pray.
[44:37]I can't do anything anymore." Now the mother of the boy at
[44:41]that time was in Kbala for Zara.
[44:42]So the father of the boy calls his wife, the mother of
[44:47]the boy and he tells her what the doctor said.
[44:49]He told her, "You're in Kbala.
[44:51]Go and supplicate." The mother of the boy, she goes barefoot to
[44:56]the shrine of Abu Fbas and she goes to the shrine of
[45:01]Imam Hussein and she begs Allah subhana wa ta'ala to cure her
[45:06]son on that day.
[45:07]The next day, the next day, the Palestinian Christian doctor calls the
[45:12]father of the boy.
[45:15]Come to the hospital quickly.
[45:16]What happened?
[45:17]He asked him, I have one question for you.
[45:20]What did you do last night?
[45:22]Told him, I didn't do anything special.
[45:24]I mean, I supplicated, but I called his mom and I asked
[45:28]her to go to the blessed shrines, and she made a special
[45:33]prayer.
[45:31]He told him, I want to tell you that your son has
[45:35]been healed and now his vision has been restored.
[45:39]What is it that you did?
[45:43]That's the power of dua.
[45:45]My dear brothers and sisters, this is not a story from some
[45:49]anonymous book.
[45:51]That boy is my father Hassan.
[45:53]May Allah bless him.
[45:53]And I heard this story directly from my grandfather who's in Kbell.
[46:00]That is the power of dua.
[46:01]Never underestimate the power of dua.
[46:03]Especially in the month of Ramadan, the month of spirituality when you
[46:10]open your heart to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[46:10]We just have a few nights left.
[46:15]Go in the privacy of your room and pour your heart out
[46:18]to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[46:25]This is one of the duas that we recite in the month
[46:30]of Ramadan.
[46:32]And every night recite this.
[46:30]It gives you so much hope.
[47:02]Oh Allah, those who are in need, they're standing at your door.
[47:07]Oh Allah, the poor ones, we're all poor before Allah.
[47:10]They are knocking at your door.
[47:15]Oh Allah, the ship of the poor ones are now at the
[47:18]banks of your mercy.
[47:29]We're all on this ship and we wish to cross the ocean
[47:34]to the other side to your rahman.
[47:36]Oh Allah, we have this hope.
[48:06]Oh Allah, in this blessed month of Ramadan, say this from your
[48:12]heart.
[48:13]If you only have mercy on those good ones, on the one
[48:15]who fasted and prayed impeccably, then what about me, ya Allah?
[48:19]What about the sinful ones?
[48:24]We don't have a Lord.
[48:22]We also have a Lord.
[48:52]Those who fasted and observed the sanctity of this month, they have
[48:56]passed.
[48:57]They have achieved success.
[48:59]Thank Allah for giving you this.
[49:03]And if you spend some nights of the month of Ramadan and
[49:06]standing on your two feet and supplicating to Allah, you're the victorious
[49:11]one.
[49:24]Allah, oh Allah, have mercy on on us.
[49:31]Oh Allah, free us from the fire of hell.
[49:33]My dear brothers and sisters, it has been a great honor for
[49:36]me to be with you the last few night few nights in
[49:41]the month of Ramadan.
[49:41]I ask Allah subhana wa ta'ala to bless you all to accept
[49:47]your please forgive me for any shortcomings.
[49:48]Inshallah the the program will continue until tomorrow night the English program.
[49:52]Our dear brother Haj Ali Abu is going to deliver the lecture
[49:59]tomorrow night.
[49:57]But inshallah you have a blessed remainder of the month of Ramadan.
[50:01]Inshallah you have a blessed Eid.
[50:05]We expect the Eid inshallah to be on Wednesday for the followers
[50:08]of Al Maraj.
[50:09]But on Tuesday night you can check to verify that.
[50:12]But we expect it inshallah this year to be a unified Eid
[50:17]for everyone.
[50:16]So I ask Allah to bless you and I congratulate you on
[50:21]the Eid.
[50:22]And inshallah after Eid I will be heading back to the holy
[50:25]city of Naj.
[50:27]I will be praying for you in the shrine of and especially
[50:31]when I go to Kbala.
[50:34]I specifically would like to thank the NYC volunteers.
[50:36]You don't know how much time and effort they put in making
[50:43]this program a successful program every single night.
[50:45]I know some of them would get two hours of sleep during
[50:49]the day, but they were dedicated volunteering and helping out.
[50:51]So I ask you to recite a loud salawat for them inshallah.
