[0:07]I begin in the name of the almighty God, the compassionate, the
[0:12]merciful, the one who has created everything in utmost perfection.
[0:20]And may the peace and blessings of the Almighty God be upon
[0:24]his pure and beloved messenger, the peak of his creation, the symbol
[0:32]of humanity, the holy prophet Muhammed and his immaculate progeny of the
[0:46]peace be upon them, especially the leader of our time, the awaited
[0:51]savior here.
[0:54]May Allah hasten his reappearance and make us all amongst his sincere
[1:02]and dedicated servants.
[1:02]Respected brothers and sisters, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala states in the holy
[1:16]Quran in capturing one of the most beautiful supplications that prophet Ibraim
[1:24]made.
[1:37]This beautiful supplication that prophet Ibraim made to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[1:44]with so much sincerity in his heart.
[1:54]Allah is the one who's created me and he guides me and
[1:58]he is the one who feeds me.
[1:59]He gives me water to drink.
[2:04]He gives me food to eat.
[2:08]And when I am ill, Allah is the one who cures me.
[2:17]And when I die, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala resurrects me.
[2:22]He gives me death and he gives me life.
[2:33]And I have my hopes in Allah who's going to forgive me
[2:37]on the day of judgment.
[2:49]Oh Allah, you give me the hook, the wisdom, the guidance, the
[2:56]strength.
[2:54]And oh Allah unite me with the righteous ones.
[2:59]Look at this beautiful dua of prophet Ibraim.
[3:18]for Allah.
[3:52]And oh Allah, on the day of judgment, don't abandon me.
[3:58]Don't disgrace me and humiliate me.
[4:00]On that day, nothing can help you.
[4:05]No family, no children, no wealth except one thing can help you.
[4:14]Only if you meet Allah subhana wa ta'ala, you go back to
[4:19]Allah on the day of judgment with the sound heart.
[4:25]This is one of the most beautiful supplications that prophet Ibraimisam has
[4:33]made and he reminds us of the importance of the sound heart.
[4:38]On the day of judgment, what's going to save me is not
[4:43]the size of my bank account.
[4:44]It's not my social standing.
[4:46]It's not my profession.
[4:48]It's not my career.
[4:49]There is one thing that will decide whether we will be saved
[4:55]on the day of judgment or not.
[4:58]And that is your sound heart.
[5:02]is so important such that beautifully states if Allah loves one of
[5:16]his servants Allah sees that you're worthy you're making the effort you've
[5:20]opened your heart for guidance you're working hard Allah subhana wa ta'ala
[5:26]grants you the best gift that he can grant anyone and that
[5:34]says the sound pure heart.
[5:36]In the Holy Quran, we find many references to the heart.
[5:41]And the Quran describes the heart as the center of action in
[5:49]your life.
[5:48]For instance, the Holy Quran describes some hearts as being blind.
[5:54]And Allah says, don't think that the eyes go blind when it
[5:59]comes to guidance.
[5:58]It's the hearts and the chests that go blind.
[6:08]So the Quran describes some hearts as being blind and then we
[6:16]see the Holy Quran describing some hearts of as having a disease.
[6:24]The Quran sometimes describes the heart as being at peace, at rest.
[6:36]You find all these interesting descriptions of the heart in the Holy
[6:40]Quran.
[6:41]And the Quran even sometimes refers to the heart as being sinful.
[6:46]Your heart sins.
[6:51]your heart can actually sin.
[6:54]Now the question that many scholars are asking which heart is the
[7:01]Quran referring to is the Quran referring to this physical heart it's
[7:05]the center of all this action it can go blind it can
[7:07]have a disease it can be at peace it can commit a
[7:13]sin what is this heart that the holy Quran is referring to
[7:18]in understanding the heart in the holy Quran scholars are divided into
[7:26]two primary camps.
[7:27]They have two perspectives.
[7:30]The first group of scholars, they believe that all these references to
[7:37]the heart using the word for instance in Arabic or using the
[7:42]wordad in Arabic, they are metaphoric.
[7:45]They're symbolic descriptions.
[7:45]Don't take them literally.
[7:48]The heart means your mind, your intellect, your soul, and your personality.
[7:54]So when the Quran says they have a disease in their hearts,
[7:57]it means they have a disease in their nefs and their personality
[7:59]in their soul.
[8:02]They're not using their intellect.
[8:05]Their intellect is under the spell of a bad disease.
[8:07]It has disabled their intellect from seeing right from wrong.
[8:13]So all of this is metaphoric.
[8:17]Don't think that when the Quran says heart, it's referring to this
[8:22]area in your chest.
[8:23]Now, the Quran uses the word heart because people think that in
[8:31]this area you experience your feelings, your emotions.
[8:34]When you're in love, where do you experience the love?
[8:38]In your heart.
[8:38]When you're afraid, where do you experience the fear?
[8:43]In your heart.
[8:44]You experience all these feelings in the heart.
[8:47]So the Quran used this borrowed this term just to get the
[8:52]idea across so people can better understand the Quran otherwise don't take
[8:56]it literally.
[8:58]That is the first group of scholars.
[9:00]Then we have the second group of scholars.
[9:03]They say no there is more to it than that.
[9:04]Yes it's true that the center of all action that's going on
[9:08]is your mind.
[9:08]It's your intellect.
[9:11]It's your soul.
[9:10]That's true.
[9:12]But this physical heart also plays a role.
[9:17]A lot of this action is happening spiritually invisibly but it's also
[9:23]happening in this heart around this heart in your chest.
[9:28]And they cite this verse in the holy Quran.
[9:37]Allah clearly states in the holy Quran that these hearts which are
[9:41]in the chests they are the hearts that go blind and you
[9:45]can't see right from wrong and that is the area where shan
[9:50]whispers to you in when Allah subhana wa ta'ala describes the whispers
[9:55]of Satan where is that action happening the activity of whispering where
[10:00]is it happening Where does he whisper?
[10:09]That evil Satan is the one who whispers in your heart.
[10:14]In your chest in Arabic means chest.
[10:17]And therefore they believe that this physical heart plays a role in
[10:21]that.
[10:22]It's impacted by what you believe in.
[10:25]In fact, it's the center of belief.
[10:26]It's the center of faith.
[10:29]It's connected to your soul.
[10:31]It's connected to your intellect.
[10:31]But it's an integral part of your life.
[10:35]And indeed when we look at the heart physically, we find that
[10:40]it is one of the most vital organs that you have.
[10:43]If your heart is physically healthy, generally speaking, you will be healthy.
[10:48]And if your heart is not healthy, you will have hundreds of
[10:56]health problems.
[10:55]Do you know what the leading cause of death is around the
[10:59]world and in the United States?
[11:01]What's the leading cause of death?
[11:03]Heart disease.
[11:05]Ask the doctors, they'll tell you.
[11:08]Heart disease is the biggest killer on the planet.
[11:11]And that shows you how important your heart is physically.
[11:13]But not just physically, it's also important spiritually.
[11:18]So the second group of scholars, they say that a lot of
[11:22]this action is actually happening in this area.
[11:26]Your heart is the window to your soul.
[11:29]It serves as the connection to your R.
[11:31]Now does modern science give us any hints that the heart can
[11:38]be playing such an important role?
[11:40]Absolutely.
[11:41]I invite you to research modern studies about the heart.
[11:45]For instance, research the electromagnetic field of the heart.
[11:50]Do you know that your heart generates the biggest mac your heart
[11:59]generates the biggest electromagnetic field in your body.
[12:05]It's a powerful rhythmic field.
[12:06]It doesn't only impact your cells in your body, it impacts those
[12:12]around you.
[12:11]And you can detect the electromagnetic waves of your heart using devices
[12:16]several feet away.
[12:19]There is a device called a magnetometer.
[12:22]They use this device to detect the electromagnetic waves being generated by
[12:29]your heart.
[12:30]And you know what this does?
[12:32]This electromagnetic activity has the capacity to communicate with others around you.
[12:39]This is supported by modern science.
[12:41]If two people are standing in close proximity to one another, their
[12:46]hearts can actually communicate with one another through this electromagnetic activity.
[12:53]It's fascinating and has amazing impacts.
[12:56]And that's why sometimes when you embrace someone whom you love, whom
[13:03]you respect, it could be your mother, it could be a teacher,
[13:06]it could be your loved one, a spouse, when both of you
[13:11]love one another and your hearts are close and you hug each
[13:13]other, you actually feel something beyond this physical world.
[13:19]You feel a connection.
[13:19]You feel at peace.
[13:21]Part of that is this electromagnetic activity that's happening between the two
[13:27]hearts.
[13:27]And that is why in Islamic law, it is highly recommended for
[13:32]brothers when they meet one another and sisters when they meet one
[13:36]another, if you meet a fellow believer in the community, it's highly
[13:40]recommended to hug one another because Allah subhana ta wants these positive
[13:47]waves of energy to connect.
[13:50]It makes you a better human being, a stronger human being.
[13:52]It makes you feel better.
[13:53]The hadith states, "When two believers, two Mmans, they embrace one another,
[13:59]their sins fall like the leaves fall off a tree on a
[14:05]windy fall day." Have you seen in the autumn when the trees
[14:08]are falling, sometimes you get this gust and half the leaves fall?
[14:13]The hadith states that's how you shed your sins.
[14:14]When you embrace a fellow believer, the impact is amazing.
[14:22]And the same thing is happening to even a deeper level when
[14:26]a mother embraces her infant.
[14:28]Especially when she's feeding her infant, when the hearts are close.
[14:34]Now the magnetic field of the mother's heart is directly in contact
[14:37]with the child, with the brain of the child, with the heart
[14:40]of the child.
[14:43]That's why children who are nursed by their mothers, they have a
[14:47]much better upbringing than those kids that are put on infant formula.
[14:51]And I say this to the wonderful mothers of our community and
[14:56]sisters.
[14:57]Try to avoid the infant formula as much as you can.
[15:01]Unless you have to.
[15:03]Some mothers are simply not able to feed their children.
[15:04]That's fine.
[15:06]That's understandable.
[15:08]But if you can, even if there is difficulty, do woo.
[15:11]Take your child and breastfeed your child.
[15:13]Do you know what that does to the heart of your child,
[15:16]to the mind of your child, to the soul of your child?
[15:18]Imagine all these positive signals you, the mother, you're sending to your
[15:24]child.
[15:25]Don't deny your children from this blessing.
[15:28]Imagine a child who's being warmly embraced by his mother or her
[15:35]mother.
[15:35]A mother who believes in Allah subhana wa ta'ala, who's sitting towards
[15:39]the who's on wudoo.
[15:40]Can you compare that with a poor little infant who's thrown on
[15:45]the couch and given some infinite infant formula to drink?
[15:50]That's why even doctors today, psychologists, doctors, biologists, they're saying to mothers,
[15:58]try to feed your children yourself.
[16:00]It's much better than putting them on infant formula.
[16:03]The heart is an amazing powerful tool that Allahhana ta has given
[16:09]us.
[16:09]And so many scholars believe when the Quran is referring to the
[16:12]heart, it's not just a spiritual world of the intellect or the
[16:15]soul.
[16:16]No, physically a lot of the action happens here.
[16:20]And that's why in some of our duas when you make certain
[16:25]supplications, it's recommended to put your hand on your heart.
[16:28]It has an impact.
[16:30]Try it.
[16:31]For instance, it's recommended if you're going through difficulties or you just
[16:34]want blessings from Allah subhana wa ta'ala in the morning after after
[16:39]the morning prayer while you're still sitting put your hand on your
[16:43]heart and say 70 times.
[16:48]Oh Allah who opens new paths for me.
[16:51]Open a new path for me.
[16:53]Try it 70 times.
[16:53]See how that day is going to go.
[16:56]And even if you're in the biggest crisis, Allah will solve it
[17:00]for you.
[17:02]You're giving comfort to your heart.
[17:05][sighs] If sometimes you feel this very painful, depressive state in your
[17:15]heart, people who've gone through depression, they know what I'm referring to.
[17:19]It's a painful feeling in your heart.
[17:22]It's indescribable.
[17:21]Take the Holy Quran and put it on your heart and recite
[17:28]verse 82 of and we bring down the healing and the mercy
[17:39]in the Quran.
[17:41]Try it.
[17:42]See how you'll feel.
[17:43]So this heart is really important, my dear brothers and sisters.
[17:48]Now when the physical purely physical heart is in trouble, you go
[17:51]to a cardiologist to see what's going on.
[17:55]But when it comes to your the sound heart, you need to
[18:01]be your own doctor and you can be your best doctor because
[18:06]you know what your intentions are.
[18:09]You know whether you're sincere or not.
[18:13]You need you know what you need to work on.
[18:14]You every person has to be their own doctor.
[18:19]And this is the message on such an important night on I
[18:24]want to purify my heart, make sure that my heart is it's
[18:30]the sound heart that's going to save me on the day of
[18:34]judgment.
[18:34]But I need to be my own doctor.
[18:36]I need to know how to develop.
[18:39]So how do we develop?
[18:42]Because Allah tells us in the Holy Quran on the day of
[18:50]judgment, nothing is going to help you.
[18:52]There's one thing that's going to help you except if you go
[19:01]back to Allah with means sound heart, healthy spiritual heart.
[19:06]How do we develop that?
[19:10]I will share with you some steps and tonight on ask Allah
[19:12]subhana wa ta'ala to open your heart to guidance so you can
[19:17]implement them in the following year.
[19:18]The first step to developing al is to take the instruction of
[19:28]als states you know who is he's the one who goes back
[19:37]to his lord he's the one who goes back to Allah without
[19:45]anyone else in his heart.
[19:48]My dear brothers and sisters, we have people around us whom we
[19:53]love.
[19:54]Sometimes we love our profession, our business, our hobby, whatever it may
[19:59]be.
[19:59]But there is nothing out there in the universe who is worthy
[20:02]of your full heart and love other than Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[20:06]True love is only for Allah.
[20:11]Keep your heart only for Allah because no one other than God
[20:15]is worthy of occupying your heart.
[20:17]If you let anything else occupy your heart, you will be harming
[20:20]yourself and you will be disappointing yourself and you will be setting
[20:27]up yourself for failure.
[20:27]Only Allah is worthy of occupying your heart.
[20:31]Nothing else is worthy.
[20:32]My dear brothers and sisters, we have a beautiful hadith that captures
[20:38]a cute moment between young lady Zanab Alisam and her father.
[20:44]Imagine Zanab is maybe 2, three years old at this point.
[20:49]According to this hadith, she once asked her father an interesting question.
[20:54]She told him, "Dear father, do you love us?" Now imagine the
[21:00]children of Im Ali Alisam asking him this question.
[21:04]The Imam Alam said of course I love you.
[21:07]Is there any doubt about that?
[21:08]Listen listen to smart savvy young Z.
[21:11]Subhan Allah.
[21:12]She tells him father the is only for Allah.
[21:17]As for us the children you show us and compassion Allah.
[21:21]That's Z.
[21:22]That's how she made it on the day of judgment.
[21:26]She's sending a message to families.
[21:27]Yes.
[21:28]Love one another and the general meaning of the term be compassionate
[21:32]be loving BUT TRUE LOVE TRUE keep that only for Allah because
[21:36]only Allah deserves that love in your heart and if I want
[21:42]to go back to Allah with with a sound heart I can't
[21:45]take anything with me I need to go with an empty heart
[21:51]that only occupies Allah because if I don't I am disrespecting my
[21:55]lord and disrespecting my nephs.
[21:59]I'll give you an example to demonstrate that.
[22:01]Imagine you're financially struggling and you have the small business on the
[22:06]side.
[22:07]You make $50 a day.
[22:08]You're really struggling.
[22:10]You can barely make ends meet.
[22:12]And then suddenly you get the opportunity to visit the wealthiest man
[22:16]on earth.
[22:17]Let's say you have an appointment with Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, one
[22:20]of these big guys.
[22:23]Now you go to them and they tell you today you have
[22:28]a blank check.
[22:27]When you come to me to this meeting, you can take up
[22:33]to $50 billion.
[22:36]Imagine you had a meeting like that.
[22:38]Now imagine you go to this meeting and you're in that meeting.
[22:41]You're distracted.
[22:43]Bill Gates asks you, "Why are you distracted?
[22:45]What are you thinking of?" You tell him, "Bill, I'm I'm thinking
[22:50]of my $50 business and how I'm going to make an extra
[22:55]$10 tomorrow." How is he going to look at you?
[22:59]How are people going to look at you?
[23:02]You're wasting time thinking of how to make the $50 60 when
[23:05]I am telling you you can take up to $50 billion from
[23:10]me.
[23:10]Get out of here.
[23:11]I'm not going to do business with you.
[23:13]My dear brothers and sisters, when we go back to Allah, if
[23:17]we take anything in our heart other than God, it's an insult
[23:20]to Allah.
[23:21]Because Allah is the infinite source of mercy in the world.
[23:23]He's the infinite source of richness.
[23:25]He's the infinite source of wealth.
[23:27]He's the instant in infinite source of power.
[23:30]He's the infinite source of beauty.
[23:32]What do you want in your life?
[23:34]Allah has it.
[23:36]Why take anything with you?
[23:37]Any attachment you take with you in your heart will not allow
[23:40]your to shine on the day of judgment.
[23:44]And this is the goal of life to live a life to
[23:48]train our hearts to detach from anything except Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[23:53]Otherwise, we're doing injustice.
[23:57]And do you know what the greatest treasure Allah has in this
[24:03]universe?
[24:02]Sometimes prophets would ask Allah interesting questions.
[24:06]One prophet asked Allah, "Every king has a treasure.
[24:10]What's your treasure?" Some kings it's their money, their silver, their gold,
[24:15]their rubies, their emeralds.
[24:16]Some of them it's their palaces.
[24:18]Ya Allah, what's your treasure?
[24:21]Listen to this beautiful in this attributed to Allah subhana wa ta'ala,
[24:28]Allah states, Earth is too small for Allah.
[24:39]It cannot contain Allah.
[24:40]This vast universe, as big as it is, it cannot contain Allah.
[24:45]But there is one thing that can contain Allah.
[24:50]You know what that is?
[24:53]But the heart of my believing servant who's a believer, it can
[24:59]occupy me.
[25:01]Your heart can occupy Allah spiritually speaking, symbolically speaking.
[25:06]Isn't that an honor that this vast universe is too small for
[25:10]God?
[25:10]But Allah says, "Your heart is big enough.
[25:13]You can occupy me in your heart." One day Allah subhana wa
[25:19]ta'ala reveals to his servant Dawis.
[25:20]He tells him, "Oh Dud, I want you to go and empty
[25:24]a house for me." Daw said to Allah, "Ya Allah, you don't
[25:28]occupy any place.
[25:30]You're not a physical entity.
[25:31]What do you mean prepare a house for you?" He tells him,
[25:37]"Oh, Dawood, if you remove everything from your heart and you prepare
[25:41]it for me, that will be my house.
[25:44]Every one of you, you can have a home that belongs to
[25:49]Allah subhana ta in your heart.
[25:50]And once you have that home in your heart, nothing can bring
[25:56]you down.
[25:55]Believe me, nothing in this world, no trial will make you lose
[26:03]patience.
[26:04]You will be at peace.
[26:04]Your will be at peace with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[26:08]So the first step to developing that is to detach.
[26:12]Do everything for Allah.
[26:16]Realize only Allah is worthy of my love.
[26:18]No one else is worthy of my love.
[26:22]Your closest person, the person closest to you, your loved one, one
[26:25]day can backstab you and betray you and hurt you.
[26:27]And we see that every day.
[26:30]Every day.
[26:29]Millions of people their hearts are shattered and broken.
[26:33]Why?
[26:34]Because they put all their mind and soul and heart in that
[26:36]relationship.
[26:37]Never do that, my dear brothers and sisters.
[26:41]Be genuine in your relationship.
[26:42]Sure, be honest.
[26:44]But never put your whole soul and heart in it.
[26:46]WHO IS THAT person who deserves your entire soul and heart?
[26:50]Only Allah deserves your heart.
[26:52]No one else deserves it.
[26:53]And when you submit your full heart to someone, that's recipe for
[26:56]disaster.
[26:57]You're telling them now the ball is in your court.
[27:01]You can hurt me as much as you can.
[27:03]Because the more you give your heart to someone, the more you
[27:05]give them access to hurting you.
[27:08]There's only one being who will never hurt you, who's always just,
[27:12]and will compensate you, and that's Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[27:16]But life, this world is superficial.
[27:21]You fall in love and that person becomes your lord.
[27:24]Now you're doing an injustice to yourself.
[27:26]Always put a limit.
[27:28]The minute you feel your heart is pushing you towards this unhealthy
[27:32]type of love, put a limit.
[27:34]Save yourself a lot of trouble.
[27:39]This is the first step towards to having that sound heart.
[27:43]The second step towards build developing is to sever your heart from
[27:54]this materialistic world.
[27:56]The love of this world makes your heart in a state of
[28:03]disease.
[28:04]Prophet Isaam has a beautiful description here.
[28:07]He says, "Have you seen someone who's sick, who has a fever,
[28:10]if you bring them their favorite dish, they have no appetite for
[28:12]it." Right?
[28:13]It's good food, but they have no taste for it, no appetite
[28:19]for it.
[28:17]He says, "The one who's in love with this world is like
[28:22]that sick person.
[28:21]This person doesn't really have appetite for spirituality.
[28:25]This person has no appetite for worship or for Allah subhanahu wa
[28:33]ta'ala." One of the best duas that you can make.
[28:38]Oh Allah, remove the love of this dunya from my heart because
[28:44]this is not worthy of capturing my heart.
[28:48]Live in this dunya.
[28:48]Excel in this dunya.
[28:51]Just like a ship.
[28:50]In order for a ship to sail, you need water.
[28:54]The more water the better.
[28:55]If it's pretty shallow and the ship is deep, it could be
[28:59]a dangerous ride.
[29:01]THE MORE WATER, THE BETTER it is for this ship.
[29:02]The water carries the ship.
[29:05]But this same water that carries the ship.
[29:09]The second it enters inside the ship, what happens?
[29:15]Sinks.
[29:15]The same water that carries the ship can kill the ship and
[29:21]destroy the ship and sink the ship.
[29:23]It's the same with this dunya.
[29:24]This dunya carries you.
[29:25]You excel in this world.
[29:28]You become successful in this world.
[29:30]But the minute the minute that you allow this dunya to enter
[29:33]your heart, you're sinking.
[29:36]That's how you stop alim from being drowned by this dunya.
[29:44]It requires a daily reminder.
[29:46]This dunya is not worth it.
[29:47]I'm going to Allah subhana wa ta'ala who's the infinite source of
[29:50]everything that I want.
[29:53]Why should I distract myself with a dunya?
[29:57]Imagine you're going to your most important interview and you need to
[30:02]make it on time.
[30:03]If you don't, you're going to miss that job opportunity.
[30:07]And then on the way there, you find a group of people
[30:10]standing in line fighting over something.
[30:12]You look at them.
[30:14]What are you fighting over?
[30:15]They tell you they're passing out free chips here.
[30:19]You go, you stand in line with them.
[30:22]You fidget.
[30:23]You fight for a bag of chips.
[30:24]30 minutes you're fighting over the bag of chips and suddenly you
[30:30]realize you've lost your appointment.
[30:32]You've missed that important interview.
[30:34]Sounds very silly, right?
[30:35]But this is our state in this dunya.
[30:38]Every single day we're busy with those bag of chips that's that's
[30:43]distracting us from the main meeting with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[30:49]Anything that I do that is not in Allah's way, that's not
[30:52]productive is like those bag of chips.
[30:55]So the second way to protect thee heart is to remove the
[31:02]love of from your heart and it's possible.
[31:05]You need to take small steps.
[31:06]And one way to do that is to sacrifice comforts occasionally.
[31:11]Show yourself who's boss.
[31:14]That's what's important in this dunya.
[31:17]Show yourself who's in control.
[31:18]When I say no, I can say no.
[31:21]And I'll give you a tip that's really effective.
[31:25]Once in a while, I'm not saying do this every night.
[31:28]Once a once a month.
[31:31]Once a month.
[31:30]Sleep on the floor.
[31:32]No pillow.
[31:34]No blanket.
[31:36]Can you do that?
[31:37]It's tough.
[31:38]You're not used to it.
[31:39]You're going to wake up the next day with a sore body.
[31:43]Sure.
[31:44]Because you're not used to it.
[31:44]But I will tell you if you do that occasionally, the next
[31:49]day you're going to wake up a stronger human being, you'll appreciate
[31:52]the blessings Allah has given you and you'll have greater willpower.
[31:55]Sacrifice some small comforts here and there in order to train yourself
[32:02]not to be enslaved to your desires and to this duny.
[32:05]That's a very effective way to develop alim.
[32:09]The third step to developing the sound heart is to always hold
[32:16]on to the truth even if it's against you.
[32:20]One hadith states a pure intention.
[32:25]Truthfulness is what keeps you on the path of we human beings
[32:31]by nature we lie.
[32:32]We lie.
[32:34]We enjoy lying and we have a habit of lying.
[32:39]According to studies, the average American man lies three times a day.
[32:45]And the average woman, according to this study, lies two times a
[32:50]day.
[32:50]And they tell you there's no difference between men and women.
[32:53]Here, I give you a difference between the two.
[32:56]But I think this is very conservative.
[32:58]Believe me, if you lie just twice a day, you're pretty much
[33:01]an angel, right?
[33:03]I think for a lot of us, 20, 30 times a day.
[33:07]It's very natural for us to lie whether it's petty issues or
[33:12]important issues.
[33:11]Is one that has a severely stowed lock in it.
[33:18]A powerful lock.
[33:21]I'll never betray the truth.
[33:21]You know why lying is a major sin?
[33:24]Because you're betraying the truth.
[33:25]Even if it's a small lie, even if you think it's a
[33:28]harmless lie, it's a lie.
[33:30]And when you train your heart to fabricate lies, to not tell
[33:36]the truth, eventually your heart will fall into that trap and it
[33:40]will follow falsehood.
[33:40]Every single day you need to make sure that your heart knows
[33:44]the truth.
[33:45]How do you do that?
[33:45]You say the truth.
[33:47]You do the truth.
[33:48]That's one way to protect.
[33:51]Always hold on to the truth.
[33:56]The fourth method to develop as the beautiful hadith of the Imam
[33:59]states to love for others what you love for yourself and this
[34:11]was the will of Imam to his son Alass.
[34:15]He tells him, "My dear son, make yourself the standard between yourself
[34:24]and others.
[34:25]Love for them what you love for your nephs.
[34:29]Can you develop that?
[34:29]If you can develop that, you will have." And it's very easy
[34:35]to develop that.
[34:35]Think of two points.
[34:37]Number one, I'll be rewarded.
[34:38]I'll be compensated.
[34:40]When I give, I've not lost.
[34:42]Every time you give, you're actually the victor.
[34:46]you're the winner.
[34:46]That's one way to develop that.
[34:49]Secondly, realize that that person whom you are doing a favor, you're
[34:56]serving, you're you're helping, that person is the creation of Allah.
[34:59]That person is a fellow believer and Allah created that person.
[35:02]If I truly love Allah, I will love his creation as well.
[35:07]Allah created me and he created that person.
[35:10]What's the difference between us?
[35:11]I'm a creation of God.
[35:12]That person is a creation of God.
[35:14]There's no difference between us.
[35:15]If you bring your heart to that level of sincerity and selflessness,
[35:21]you develop.
[35:24]The fifth step to developing, my dear brothers and sisters, is to
[35:34]be bothered by sins when we commit them.
[35:35]Albm is not an infallible heart.
[35:39]We can make sins and still have.
[35:41]But here's the difference between a healthy spiritual heart and a ill
[35:47]spiritual heart.
[35:49]What's the difference between them?
[35:51]The healthy heart, when I commit a sin, I'm bothered by it.
[35:57]It upsets me.
[35:56]It's a big deal for me and I quickly repent.
[35:59]A heart that is stuck in a disease, in disease mode, is
[36:05]a heart that says, "It's okay.
[36:06]It's just a small sin.
[36:07]I'm not bothered by it.
[36:10]It's not a big deal.
[36:10]It's just a sin." If you want, never allow your nephs to
[36:16]tell you it's okay.
[36:16]It's not a big deal.
[36:19]Every sin is a big deal because you violated Allah and the
[36:23]status of Allah is infinite.
[36:24]That's why in reality, my dear brothers and sisters, every sin is
[36:30]infinite.
[36:28]Every sin you commit, even if you think it's small, it's actually
[36:34]an infinite sin.
[36:34]Why?
[36:35]Because you've sinned against the status of an infinite being.
[36:42]That violation is infinite.
[36:43]Always look at your then and say that it is a big
[36:48]deal.
[36:49]Don't say it's not a big deal.
[36:50]That's one way to develop ale.
[36:54]The sixth way to develop al-Be the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasall teaches
[36:58]us has no room for and she shik polytheism she doubt doubts
[37:09]my dear brothers and sisters are normal.
[37:11]We all experience doubt.
[37:15]But if the doubt becomes permanent and it stays in your mind
[37:19]and in your heart it makes your heart ill.
[37:22]The goal of every human being every single day is to sleep
[37:28]at night without any doubts to have that full iman.
[37:32]If I don't have it, it's okay.
[37:33]Work on it.
[37:33]What do you have that's more important in your life?
[37:36]Your business is more important your hobby, your sports, your entertainment.
[37:40]What's more important than developing a heart that is at the peak
[37:45]of y?
[37:46]And I tell you, when you sleep at night with with certainty,
[37:51]it's the best feeling in the universe.
[37:54]You feel safe no matter what's going on around you.
[37:57]Even if the entire world is falling apart, you feel safe because
[38:02]you have you have certainty in Allah subhana wa ta'ala.
[38:04]Your attitude and your belief is extremely important.
[38:09]Extremely important.
[38:09]Today, our society tells us, who cares about your attitude and belief?
[38:13]As long as you're doing a good deed, it's a good deed.
[38:16]I don't care if an atheist does it or a believer does
[38:17]it.
[38:18]Who cares?
[38:19]At the end of the day, it's a good deed.
[38:21]That's not true.
[38:23]Your attitude is what gives you what it's what gives value to
[38:27]your deed.
[38:27]I'll give you an example.
[38:29]Imagine it's Mother's Day.
[38:32]It was Mother's Day a few days ago in the Middle East,
[38:35]right?
[38:36]Imagine on Mother's Day you go to your mom with a nice
[38:40]bundle of flowers and you tell her mom habib I am giving
[38:45]you this gift on Mother's Day.
[38:49]Question the act of giving your mother a gift on Mother's Day.
[38:55]Is that a nice thing or a bad thing?
[38:57]That's a nice thing.
[38:57]Would anyone disagree?
[39:00]It's a nice thing to give your mom a gift on Mother's
[39:02]Day.
[39:03]Now imagine if after giving her the gift, you tell your mother,
[39:08]"Mother, you raised me.
[39:11]You had all these rights on me.
[39:13]You carried me in your womb for 9 months.
[39:17]Now I'm giving you this gift.
[39:18]We're even and square.
[39:19]You have no right over me.
[39:23]I've paid you back through this gift." If you say that to
[39:26]your mom, what kind of reaction are you going to expect?
[39:27]You're lucky if she doesn't slap you.
[39:30]She'll tell you, "Huh, 20 years I've been raising you, feeding you,
[39:35]carrying you.
[39:34]Now with one lousy gift of flowers, you want to pay me
[39:39]back.
[39:40]Get out of here.
[39:39]You insulted your mom." But wait a minute.
[39:42]Wait a minute.
[39:43]I thought attitudes don't matter.
[39:45]I thought beliefs don't matter.
[39:47]I thought it's just the act that matters.
[39:50]It's your belief and attitude that gives value to your deeds or
[39:53]destroys your deed.
[39:55]When an atheist does a good deed, okay, the deed itself is
[39:57]a good deed.
[39:58]But if this person is rejecting Allah, the one who gave him
[40:01]everything, I'm sorry, that deed has no value.
[40:04]That has no VALUE BECAUSE YOU'RE REJECTING your creator.
[40:06]Just like the son who's rejecting the status of his mother.
[40:10]Imagine if a a son goes to his mother and he gives
[40:13]her the nicest gift.
[40:14]He tells her, "Mother, I don't even acknowledge you have any rights
[40:17]over me." She will not take that gift.
[40:20]She will take that as an insult.
[40:27]is the that's full of certainty and im and it's the goal
[40:34]of every believer to have that every single night.
[40:36]Now it's normal to have doubts.
[40:38]Now you'll tell me say it.
[40:39]There are some doubts I have about God rel.
[40:42]That's fine.
[40:43]That's fine.
[40:42]It's normal to have doubts.
[40:46]What's not okay is for the doubt to be prolonged in your
[40:49]heart because it will eventually make you ill.
[40:52]Make it your goal to address the doubt.
[40:55]I will not sleep.
[40:57]I will not engage in any activity until I treat my doubt.
[41:00]And many times when you simply seek knowledge, you will ease the
[41:04]doubt.
[41:04]My dear brothers and sisters, we have the answers there in the
[41:10]holy Quran, in the hadith of B.
[41:11]Ask scholars, ask people who know in your community.
[41:13]Many of your doubts can easily be addressed by simply researching and
[41:18]asking.
[41:18]Allah has given you a most powerful tool, the intellect.
[41:25]Use it.
[41:23]That's the best thing that you can do.
[41:27]The seventh and final method that I will share with you to
[41:33]develop is to take this beautiful hadith of prophet Muhammad sallallam.
[41:42]In this fascinating hadith the prophet says Allah has three containers on
[41:47]earth.
[41:49]One container is soft, one container is hard and one container is
[41:56]pure.
[41:56]The prophet explains what these containers are.
[42:00]He says, "These containers are the hearts." The soft heart is the
[42:07]one that's compassionate with fellow believers.
[42:08]Allah loves a compassionate heart.
[42:13]I know today in society that's seen a sign of weakness among
[42:16]some men, especially some young guys who have a messed up understanding
[42:20]of what masculinity means.
[42:22]Allah loves a compassionate heart.
[42:26]Allah loves a compassionate heart.
[42:27]The more you're compassionate to those around you, the more Allah loves
[42:31]your heart and the more you have.
[42:33]That's the first container.
[42:34]The second container is the hard container.
[42:36]The prophet says that is the heart of the one who's strong
[42:43]and who stands up to injustice.
[42:44]Be compassionate.
[42:45]But when it comes to injustice, when you see your brothers and
[42:48]sisters being slaughtered in Gaza or anywhere in the world, you stand
[42:53]up.
[42:54]Say the truth.
[42:54]Don't think, okay, I'm gonna get fired from this position.
[42:58]Maybe my Facebook page is going to be taken down.
[42:59]Be strong.
[43:01]When you see injustice, stand up to injustice.
[43:05]Allah loves a strong heart when it comes to injustice, when it
[43:09]comes to saying the and saying the truth.
[43:11]And the third one, the pure heart is the heart that repents
[43:19]from sins.
[43:19]Allah has given you this light in your heart.
[43:23]Allah Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth.
[43:29]And this light shines from your heart.
[43:31]But every sin dims the heart.
[43:33]Dims the heart.
[43:34]Have you seen when the dust collects on these lamps they get
[43:37]dimmer and dimmer and dimmer.
[43:39]The hadith states, "God forbid." For some people, their hearts become so
[43:47]dark and black no light shines from them.
[43:50]And the month of Ramadan, especially is that time to purify this
[43:55]heart.
[43:55]My dear brothers and sisters, these are some steps that we can
[43:59]take to ensure that we have and our inspiration is prophet Ibraimisam.
[44:05]He made this dua.
[44:09]He had the Allah subhana states in the holy Quran.
[44:12]Allah talks about prophet N.
[44:16]And then Allah says and amongst the Shia of N is Ibraim
[44:18]because Shia means a follower in the holy Quran.
[44:23]Prophet Ibraim followed the path of prophet N.
[44:25]And then what is the Quranic description of prophet Ibraim?
[44:29]How was he a good follower of?
[44:34]He went to his lord with a sound heart.
[44:37]Prophet Ibraimisam according to one hadith from the Imam he says you
[44:44]know how he developed al-Be first of all he would never ask
[44:47]anyone other than Allah even when he was being catapulted into the
[44:50]fire and offered to save him he says Allah is seeing me
[44:55]if he wants to save me he'll save me I only ask
[45:00]him to save me his was incredible and secondly he would never
[45:05]say no to anyone no one anyone who would ask him he
[45:07]would say yes.
[45:09]He was helpful and blessed wherever he was.
[45:13]That's how he achieved my dear brothers and sisters and in the
[45:17]remainder nights of the month of Ramadan ask Allah to give you
[45:22]because it's a faithful night.
[45:26]It's the night of destiny.
[45:28]Your destiny until next year is written on but that is not
[45:34]randomly written.
[45:35]It depends on your deeds.
[45:36]How much you open your heart tonight and in these nights.
[45:38]The more you supplicate to Allah.
[45:42]The more you soften your heart, the more you ask Allah, the
[45:46]better the destiny Allah is going to write for you.
[45:50]The angels descend on such a night on until the morning.
[45:56]Your surroundings are flooded with the angels of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[46:01]I'll share with you another hadith that teaches us how to stay
[46:08]pure on these nights.
[46:08]One hadith tells us descends to the earth with the angels of
[46:14]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[46:17]First he goes to thea and he puts a green banner on
[46:19]thea.
[46:20]This is in the invisible world of angels.
[46:22]It's a very important night.
[46:27]And the hadith states that has 600 wings.
[46:28]You know the angels they have wings and pairs.
[46:31]Allahh states that in Allahhana ta has made the angels messengers and
[46:45]they have wings in pairs pairs of two pairs of three and
[46:52]pairs of four.
[46:51]Gibbrael is the angel with the greatest number of wings.
[46:57]He has 600 wings.
[46:56]He uses two of his wings only.
[47:00]He fills the entire universe with his two wings asking Allah to
[47:07]pray for those who supplicate on.
[47:12]Now listen to this hadith brothers and sisters.
[47:16]When fud comes is over.
[47:19]The angels ask, "Oh, all these people who were supplicating and doing
[47:23]dua, did Allah answer their prayer or no?" Says, "Allah answered all
[47:31]of them except four." Let's not be one of these four.
[47:33]And if we are, we can repent.
[47:37]You can repent in a second.
[47:37]In a second, if your heart is broken and you're sincere, Allah
[47:40]accepts your repentance.
[47:42]The first one is the one who is addicted to alcohol or
[47:46]intoxicating drugs that make you intoxicated.
[47:50]Allah subhana t does not accept their prayers.
[47:53]If you know a friend who's in that category, help them, my
[47:59]dear brothers and sisters.
[47:59]Help them.
[48:01]Don't say it's none of my business.
[48:05]I don't care.
[48:03]Help them.
[48:05]The second one is the one who's undutiful to his parents, who's
[48:10]disrespected his parents, who's violated the rights of his parents.
[48:15]And the angels will not greet them on such a night and
[48:18]Allah will not answer their dua.
[48:19]And if your parents stand up, pray, say, "Ya Allah, I'm dedicating
[48:27]these.
[48:26]Give me Allah." The hadith states Allah will resurrect you as Allah
[48:33]subhana wa ta'ala will write you as one that one is extremely
[48:38]important my dear brothers and sisters the third one are those who
[48:41]make fitna in society instead of making peace they make fitna and
[48:46]trouble and tension on this night if this applies to me I
[48:53]should repent my dear brothers and sisters Allah wants you to be
[48:57]blessed have you seen some people Wherever they go, they're just vibes.
[49:02]They're very encouraging.
[49:04]So on this night, we open our hearts to Allah so that
[49:10]Allah subhana wa ta'ala us and Allah subhana wa ta'ala gives us
[49:18]the heart that is in certain.
[49:21]Why do we love the B?
[49:25]They teach you how to have that that in heart in those
[49:28]final moments of his life.
[49:31]Imagine your im he's bleeding profusely.
[49:33]He's attacked.
[49:33]His infant has been slaughtered.
[49:35]Imagine in that moment he's full of im and faith and he
[49:41]says, "Oh Allah, I accept your will.
[49:45]Allah that's ask Allah forb on this nightm every night he would
[49:57]sit in mazjid al kufa and he would make his supplications every
[50:01]single night but I tell you now it's been two nights in
[50:08]Kufa that the people of Kufa no longer heard the voice of
[50:11]it's been two nights in the month of Ramadan that year when
[50:16]they lost that the beautiful voice of the Imam was no longer
[50:22]heard.
[50:23]But every night when people were asleep, when it was dark and
[50:29]quiet outside, he would go to his injures us how to develop
[50:41]that.
[50:37]I want to now take you to the of Kufa in those
[50:45]beautiful nights of Ramadan when the Imam was still alive and the
[50:49]imam would supplicate to his Lord.
[50:50]What would the imam say?
[50:53]Listen to the words of Allah.
[51:02]Oh Allah, I ask you for safety, for security.
[51:07]For which day do you ask for safety and security?
[51:29]Oh Allah, I ask you for safety on that day.
[51:33]No children, no wealth are going to help me except the sound
[51:41]heart is going to help me Allah.
[51:44]Pray for this.
[51:46]Cry tonight.
[51:45]Open your heart.
[51:48]Repent and ask Allah to forgive you.
[52:05]Oh Allah, give me safety on the day of judgment.
[52:08]When the evil one, those who failed their test, they will bite
[52:13]at their hands.
[52:13]I wish I would have listened to the Quran.
[52:16]I wish I would have followed the path of guidance.
[52:20]I wished my evil friends would not distract me.
[52:44]Oh Allah, I ask you for safety on the day of judgment.
[52:48]You'll run away from your brother, your father, your mother, your spouse,
[52:51]your children.
[52:52]They will go after you begging you.
[52:55]Your mother comes to you, YOU JUST GIVE ME ONE GOOD DEED.
[52:56]I need it to tip my scale.
[53:00]You'll say, "Mom, I need my deed more than you need it."
[53:02]Ya Allah, tonight forgive us and give us those good deeds.
[53:36]Then the im like a slave who needs his master, he teaches
[53:42]you on this night how to go back to Allah.
[53:45]Run to Allah.
[53:59]Oh Allah, I am the slave.
[54:03]You're the master.
[54:02]And who other than the master can have mercy on the slave?
[54:19]Oh Allah, you're the strong and I'm the weak.
[54:22]And who other than the strong can have mercy on the weak?
[54:38]Oh Allah, I'm the stingy and you're the generous.
[54:41]And who other than the generous can have mercy on me?
[54:46]Oh Allah forgive us.
[54:46]Raise your hands in dua.
[54:47]This is the night of it could be.
[54:52]Raise your hands in dua and ask Allah to forgive you.
[54:58]Everyone together from the bottom of your heart.
[55:03]Ya Allah.
[55:03]Ya Allah.
[55:08]Ya Allah Allah, oh Allah, forgive us our sins.
[55:29]Oh Allah, purify our hearts.
[55:29]Oh Allah, all those who are ill and they've asked us for
[55:32]dua.
[55:33]This is the moment that we sincerely pray for their recovery.
[55:38]Oh Allah, our brothers and sisters, the women and children who are
[55:42]suffering in on these nights.
[55:43]Oh Allah, give them a speedy recovery and bring your wrath on
[55:47]their enemies who are killing them.
[55:51]Ya Allah.
