[1:19]respected brothers and sisters for the last few nights we spoke about
[1:28]the moral decline of western societies and we said that in order
[1:36]that we can maintain a correct understanding of morality and thus live
[1:43]as moral human beings we have to adhere to religion because only
[1:49]a religion will give you an unchanging stable and constant moral compass
[1:54]and thus only a religion will ensure that we will live as
[1:58]moral human beings and a part of being a moral being is
[2:07]one of the most important elements of being a moral human being
[2:12]and of morality is developing noble character having akhlaq good akhlaq being
[2:20]polite being courteous being respectful with other individuals and being well mannered
[2:28]being empathetic all these together collectively they develop one's character and you
[2:36]find islam out of all the religions it strongly emphasizes the importance
[2:42]of developing ikhlaq developing noble character because islam believes that it's not
[2:49]enough that we rely on common sense and on our intellect and
[2:53]on our fitra and our conscience because we mentioned many times throughout
[2:58]this series allah yes he has taught us what's right and wrong
[3:03]we know that we should behave we know that we should have
[3:06]good akhlaq but just because we know it that mean we're gonna
[3:11]do it no the knowledge is not enough you need religion in
[3:16]order for you to behave because the human being if he is
[3:20]not watched if he's not monitored then he will not behave because
[3:24]there will come certain times where following the law behaving will collide
[3:32]with his personal interests and in these situations most human beings will
[3:37]break the law most human beings will run over the law and
[3:41]they will prioritize their personal interests so unless the human being is
[3:46]constantly watched and monitored he will not behave let me give you
[3:49]an example imagine one day you wake up late and that day
[3:53]you happen to have the most important meeting of your life in
[3:57]your job you're supposed to be there sharply 8am and you wake
[4:02]up at 8am what happens you begin to freak out because you're
[4:06]late already so you quickly dress you go in your car and
[4:09]as you're driving and going to work you notice one thing you
[4:13]notice that the speed limit for example is 70 kilometers an hour
[4:17]and then you realize that if you wanna drive by the sleep
[4:20]speed limit you're not gonna make it you're gonna miss the meeting
[4:22]and maybe your career will be over you'll be fired it won't
[4:25]look good for you so here you have two options either follow
[4:29]the law or what or no or speed fast go fast and
[4:34]make it to your make it to your appointment make it to
[4:37]your meeting here even though the human being when he faces this
[4:40]dilemma even though he knows that he has to what follow the
[4:44]law he knows common sense tells him that you should not speed
[4:48]it's dangerous you shouldn't go over a 100 kilometers an hour even
[4:52]though he knows that but will this knowledge prevent him from speeding
[4:55]here no because if he follows the law he'll here he will
[4:58]probably what be left without a job so his intellect in fact
[5:02]and his common sense will tell him speed here don't break the
[5:05]law so this knowledge won't stop him from breaking the law what
[5:08]will stop him from breaking the law the police the police correct
[5:13]that's why as soon as he gets in the car he will
[5:15]place his foot on the pedal on the gas and he will
[5:19]start driving like crazy when does he begin to follow the law
[5:23]once again as soon as he begins to see a cop car
[5:26]from far right away he what he places his foot firmly on
[5:30]the brakes because he's afraid correct so as long as the human
[5:35]being is watched he's monitored when he knows that there's somebody watching
[5:39]as and then i will be punished and held accountable this is
[5:42]when we behave we drive by the speed limit if they tell
[5:45]you there's no police today people were still driving 200 kilometers an
[5:48]hour don't they know this is dangerous they do but still the
[5:51]human human being is more concerned about what his personal interest than
[5:55]he is about the law so that's why the law has to
[5:57]be what the law has to be it has to be enforced
[6:01]you don't ask people to kindly follow the law did you ever
[6:05]see the governments they ask you to kindly follow the law no
[6:07]they tell you follow the law or else you will be punished
[6:11]only then when the human being is constantly being monitored and then
[6:15]he will be held accountable he behaves so islam says it's not
[6:19]enough that common sense tells you behave you have to be always
[6:23]monitored and watched by allah by religion only then you will begin
[6:28]to behave when you are watched and subhanallah we human beings are
[6:34]so sensitive to being watched that even if there is no one
[6:39]looking at us but we think that somebody is looking at us
[6:43]even then subhanallah we begin to behave even a picture my friends
[6:49]a picture just a picture of two glazing eyes is enough to
[6:53]make us behave just a picture of two eyes glazing at you
[6:58]is enough to make you behave there's a study about this let
[7:01]me share with you the study there was a study performed by
[7:06]the university of newcastle in the uk they performed an experiment one
[7:13]year the rates of theft on the campus of that school of
[7:17]that university it skyrocketed many bicycles were being stolen every single week
[7:23]or day so they wanted to put an end to this they
[7:26]want to bring down the rates of theft down so what did
[7:30]they do they said the first option that we have obviously is
[7:33]to hire more police and we should station them in each corner
[7:38]so that people they know they're being watched they'll be afraid to
[7:40]steal bicycles correct but then they said know what maybe there's an
[7:45]easier solution we don't have to hire a police what did they
[7:49]do subhanallah they experimented with this they printed out pictures of two
[7:53]eyes glazing at you and they placed them in three locations the
[7:59]locations which had the highest rates of theft they just put a
[8:02]picture of eyes glazing at you and they wrote under it beware
[8:06]we're watching you nobody was watching anybody there was no cameras there
[8:10]was no police all there was was a picture of two eyes
[8:14]subhanallah they noticed they monitored they noticed that within the first week
[8:20]the rate of theft dropped down by 60% what did they do
[8:26]did they bring any cops any surveillance nothing they just printed a
[8:29]picture of two eyes so it says what does this teach us
[8:33]tell us about the human behavior that when the human being he
[8:37]feels like he's being watched he behaves nobody's watching but he feels
[8:41]like there's eyes watching me it's just a picture even then he
[8:44]behaves subhanallah how we human beings when we are being watched or
[8:50]when we feel like we're being watched we behave so good we
[8:53]want only our good side to show allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in
[9:00]the holy quran many time he reminds us of this fact that
[9:03]i am watching you all the time why what's the point he
[9:06]wants you to behave he wants you to be at your best
[9:09]behavior at all times the holy quran says does he not know
[9:16]that allah is watching him why does allah say that because allah
[9:19]subhanahu wa ta'ala knows that if nobody's watching you you don't behave
[9:23]you break all the moral rules and all the laws but once
[9:26]you know that there is someone watching you you behave just like
[9:29]how we are with governments when there is a police car we
[9:32]drive so well we drive so good we make sure we are
[9:36]holding both hands on the steering wheel we're weighing the seat belt
[9:39]everything's okay i'm going the speed limit sometimes we go crazy when
[9:42]we see a police car correct why because we're being watched and
[9:45]monitored but when there's no police car we start what we start
[9:48]speeding so allah subhanahu wa ta'ala knows this nature of the human
[9:52]being that the human being once he is watched or even if
[9:55]he thinks he's being watched he begins to behave so allah says
[9:59]that's why a person that follows religion is more inclined to follow
[10:06]rules and be moral and have good character than someone that does
[10:10]not because someone that doesn't follow religion like an atheist or an
[10:14]agnostic he believes there's no god there's no one looking at him
[10:18]correct so if he can get away with breaking the law and
[10:22]breaking moral codes why wouldn't he nobody's watching but a person that
[10:28]follows religion knows allah is always watching him so he's more inclined
[10:33]to follow the rules and be moral and be and and have
[10:36]developed good character noble character allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in another verse
[10:41]he says we created the human being and we know everything that
[10:51]he thinks about his nafs sometimes when you think about something in
[10:54]your mind allah says i even know that so he says be
[10:58]careful don't misbehave don't do anything wrong don't do anything immoral don't
[11:03]even think about something that's bad because i know everything so the
[11:07]point of all of this is to what allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[11:10]wants me to behave because this is the nature of the human
[11:13]being that once we are being watched we behave abu hamzat samali
[11:18]he narrates a beautiful hadith from imam zainul abideen he says one
[11:23]day the imam he told us a beautiful story the imam he
[11:27]said the story to his companions he said one day a man
[11:31]with his family members with his wife and kids he went to
[11:36]travel he went to travel by sea so he boarded a ship
[11:41]and he began his journey he says in the middle of the
[11:45]journey there was a storm and the ship wrecked it broke and
[11:50]everyone drowned they all died except for one person his wife his
[11:54]wife didn't die she stayed hanging on clinging on a piece of
[11:57]wood and she survived until she was brought to the shore she
[12:02]was brought to the shore the imam says of an island he
[12:05]says on this island there was a very evil man there was
[12:10]a man that had committed every crime there was a criminal so
[12:14]as soon as he learned that there is a woman all by
[12:17]herself he said let me go and commit the haram act against
[12:21]her will so the imam says he came to this woman and
[12:24]he tried to commit the haram act against her will as he
[12:28]was trying to commit the haram act he noticed that this woman
[12:32]was shaking shivering so he asked her why are you shivering why
[12:36]are you so afraid the lady that woman all she did she
[12:41]pointed towards the sky she says i'm afraid of him he's watching
[12:47]basically she was telling him allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is gonna watch
[12:50]all of this and i'm uncomfortable he told her have you done
[12:55]anything haram have you committed any crimes any sins that's why you're
[12:58]afraid of him she told him no when he heard that subhanallah
[13:02]he changed sometimes all it takes is one sentence one word to
[13:06]change a human being he said you are the victim you committed
[13:09]no sins and you are afraid of allah and i am the
[13:12]criminal i am the one that's committing the crime and i'm not
[13:15]afraid of allah i'm committing this crime right in front of allah
[13:19]he backed off and he went away and the hadith says he
[13:22]repented to allah why did he repent because he was reminded by
[13:27]that woman that allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is watching you how can
[13:30]you commence all this haram in front of him have some shame
[13:33]he repented and returned to allah subhanahu wa ta'ala so just the
[13:37]idea that allah is watching me it could change a criminal into
[13:41]being a good person now after understanding all this my friends that
[13:48]religion one of the goals of religion is to place oversight over
[13:56]the human being so that he behaves at all times so that
[14:01]he knows allah is looking at him 20 fourseven he's watching him
[14:05]so that he behaves and that now that we said and understood
[14:09]that in a religious person is more inclined to behave and develop
[14:14]good character now you may pose a an objection towards me you
[14:20]may ask this question and object if all of this is true
[14:24]if islam is the religion of character it's the religion of what
[14:28]of akhlaq and it strongly emphasizes akhlaq and muslims should have akhlaq
[14:34]and islam is all about akhlaq then the objection is here then
[14:39]why is it that we notice muslims have the worst akhlaq in
[14:42]the world why is it that we notice that when you go
[14:48]to the muslim countries you find that their akhlaq is rock bottom
[14:52]it's so low yes we mentioned yesterday that maybe the western society
[14:58]it suffers from a moral crisis but the muslims culture today the
[15:03]muslim societies they suffer from a akhlaq crisis there's no akhlaq in
[15:08]the muslim world when you go to a muslim country there's no
[15:12]akhlaq on the contrary you may say that when we come to
[15:16]the non muslim countries when we come to the non muslims to
[15:20]the western countries this is where we find akhlaq this is where
[15:24]we find noble character virtuous character so how is it that we
[15:28]claim islam is the religion of character how is it that we
[15:32]claim islam is the religion of akhlaq when muslims have no akhlaq
[15:35]and non muslims that we call kufar have akhlaq and all you
[15:41]have to do to understand this my friends that the akhlaq of
[15:44]non muslims is far greater and superior than akhlaq of muslims today
[15:49]all you have to do is make a simple comparison and i
[15:53]spoke a little about this a few nights ago and i'll elaborate
[15:55]more tonight just make a small comparison compare the muslim countries with
[15:59]the non muslim countries the east and the west when you come
[16:02]to the west number one and i spoke a little about this
[16:05]you find most people are honest in the western society whether here
[16:09]in canada or in any other western or european country you find
[16:14]most people are honest and most people are what are trustworthy you
[16:19]can trust them you can entrust them with anything you can rely
[16:23]on them i remember i went to a trip one year to
[16:27]two countries germany and norway and i wanted to use the subway
[16:32]system there so they said you have to buy a ticket and
[16:34]you can use it for a few days the ticket so i
[16:37]bought the ticket and then when i went to ride in the
[16:40]train there was absolutely no one to even check your ticket i
[16:44]said maybe today's an exception the next day i want nobody there
[16:48]to check your ticket the third day the fourth day i noticed
[16:52]that here it's all about what it's all about trust they trust
[16:57]that you will not abuse the system they trust that you have
[17:00]a ticket but nobody comes to even check for three four days
[17:04]wallahi maybe ten fifteen times i use the train i did not
[17:07]see a single person asking people for their tickets they assume that
[17:11]you are an honest person trustworthy as we say in arabic and
[17:16]when you buy the ticket there's an option that if you're a
[17:19]student if you're a student when i was buying the ticket from
[17:23]the salesperson if you're a student they give you 50% discount so
[17:27]i asked because i'm a student i'm studying in the house i
[17:29]told him i'm a student so i was expecting he was gonna
[17:31]tell me where's your id he did not even ask me for
[17:34]id he took my word just right there i said subhanallah this
[17:39]is a society all about trust all about honesty they assume that
[17:43]you're being honest in many of the western countries the same thing
[17:48]they don't even investigate don't even ask when you buy something in
[17:52]most of the western countries and then you don't like it you
[17:55]go and return it they ask you why are you returning it
[17:58]let's say you just don't like it maybe they you know have
[18:00]conditions if it was small if it was damaged whatever they ask
[18:04]you why are you they why are you returning it whatever you
[18:07]tell them they'll take your word will they investigate will they ask
[18:11]you for pictures will they ask you for proof they will take
[18:14]your word they will assume that you're being honest because it's an
[18:17]honest society trustworthy society there are some some stores in the west
[18:22]i've seen one one of them in america an entire store that's
[18:27]unattended there is absolutely no cashier there's no manager there's no supervisor
[18:32]and the seller is not there it's an empty store and there's
[18:36]no cameras you come you see the price you take it you
[18:39]go and you electronically pay with a credit card and you leave
[18:43]subhanallah i told myself anyone can come here and steal but if
[18:47]you ask them they'll tell you nobody ever steals from here because
[18:50]what this is society built on honesty now i remember once i
[18:53]got a video there was a muslim man who had went to
[18:57]one of the non muslim countries and he saw one of those
[18:59]stores where there is absolutely no cashier nobody he was shocked he
[19:03]made a video said look all muslims there's a store here and
[19:06]the ones that's left unattended he said if this was in a
[19:09]muslim country in five seconds everything would have been stolen and he's
[19:12]right he was shocked how can you have a store when it's
[19:17]left unattended and there's absolutely no cameras people are honest here they're
[19:22]trustworthy they don't steal this is what this is the western world
[19:25]you see the akhlaq come to the middle east choose any country
[19:30]you want you ride the taxi subhanallah the ways in which they
[19:35]rip you off the ways in which they try to take care
[19:37]and steal your money and rip you off and lie to you
[19:40]you go to the store you buy something you come home you
[19:43]see it's defected it's not working it's something else you try to
[19:46]give it back he's not gonna accept it you have to put
[19:49]a big fight until he accepts it and then he'll tell you
[19:52]i'll give you your money back come tomorrow you come tomorrow he
[19:54]says tomorrow and he'll make you run after your money entire month
[19:57]isn't this what happens in the middle east many countries i have
[20:00]personal many personal experiences in more than one muslim country you bring
[20:05]a worker to your house to do something you make an agreement
[20:08]you do this i give you this much once he's once he's
[20:11]finished he tries to change the agreement this is not what we
[20:14]agreed on give me more than what you it's such a hassle
[20:18]dealing with other people in the muslim world because there is no
[20:21]amana there is no honesty there's no trustworthy you can't trust anybody
[20:27]lose something there you'll never ever find it it's impossible this is
[20:32]number one honesty you find here and trustworthiness but you don't find
[20:35]it there number two and i spoke about this a little punctuality
[20:40]here in the west people most people are punctual when they give
[20:44]you an appointment at time usually they try to come on time
[20:48]they tell you 10:00 they come at 10:00 not 10:00 but we
[20:52]muslims unfortunately you give someone an appointment at ten he shows up
[20:56]at your house at 11:30 and that's good hajj says he'll come
[21:01]at one i remember once in one of the muslim countries i
[21:04]had an appointment with someone at twelve he showed up at 6pm
[21:07]and he didn't even apologize because this is normal if you complain
[21:11]or object he's gonna be he's gonna act you know it's like
[21:15]what's what's this guy's problem he's so arrogant are you an angel
[21:19]are you a king that you know your time is so precious
[21:23]here people have respect for their time and other people's time he's
[21:26]not gonna waste your time that's why usually when we have a
[21:29]majlis anywhere i go in the western world whether here in america
[21:31]and europe and australia when i announce that the majlis tomorrow will
[21:35]be eight i tell them that you know the example canadian time
[21:39]eight not arabic time muslim time iranian abhrani time because eight muslim
[21:44]time is nine and that's why every majlis i go to every
[21:48]majlis we start at eight people show up 08:30 we have no
[21:53]punctuality here they have respect for people's time this is number two
[21:58]you find the akhlaq is here this is all a part of
[22:00]akhlaq respecting other people's time number three a third aspect that you
[22:04]find here you don't find there you see people here are polite
[22:08]they're nice they're always smiling at your face you take a walk
[22:13]one day anyone that you come across they say hi they wave
[22:17]if you go in the elevator for ten-twenty seconds they'll start a
[22:20]small nice conversation how was your day i hope you have a
[22:23]good day correct they're very nice and friendly here always smiling come
[22:27]to the middle east everybody's frowning nobody says salaam to each other
[22:32]many times i'm walking i say salaam he doesn't even reply you
[22:37]try to ask a question they don't want to answer what's wrong
[22:40]with this person has he had a fight did he just you
[22:43]know have a problem with somebody it's here that you find people
[22:48]are so friendly they're so nice sometimes you think they're too nice
[22:51]you go you wanna buy something they keep on talking and talking
[22:53]you wanna leave they're too nice sometimes aren't they in the middle
[22:59]east you rarely find that this is number three number four you
[23:02]find here in the west my friends people in general and i'm
[23:05]sure all of you have witnessed all of this here in the
[23:09]west people in general they respect other people's privacy they don't infringe
[23:15]on your privacy rarely you'll find someone who's nosy he'll come and
[23:20]ask you too many questions if he's a stranger correct because they
[23:24]know this is rude don't ask a stranger too many personal questions
[23:28]right in the middle east sit in a taxi after two minutes
[23:32]he'll ask you about your social security number it's not a joke
[23:36]he'll ask you so many personal questions you have no clue you're
[23:39]just taking a five minute taxi ride that's why you find here
[23:45]in the west in general people don't stare and i mentioned this
[23:48]people don't stare even if you're wearing weird clothes people won't stare
[23:52]maybe they'll stare for a second and then quickly they'll move in
[23:55]the middle east he'll stare for five minutes you look at him
[23:58]in the eyes and he's still staring he's still staring because there
[24:03]in general there's no akhlaq they know that this is rude don't
[24:06]stare at other people but yet you'll find they will stare and
[24:09]stare and stare this is number four number five and this is
[24:12]one of the worst problems of akhlaq in the middle east neighbors
[24:17]in the middle east my friends everyone complains from their neighbors everyone
[24:21]i have never seen someone in the middle east that does not
[24:24]complain from his neighbors either because either because for example at late
[24:29]night he won't let them sleep he'll have a you know loud
[24:32]noises or because he will keep on parking his car in front
[24:36]of the driveway and blocking it a problem i have almost every
[24:39]day in the middle east or because he will take his trash
[24:42]and place it in front of your door or many other problems
[24:45]everyone complains from their neighbors that's why when you see the hadith
[24:50]from ahlul bayt about the haq of the jar the rights of
[24:53]your neighbors sometimes you see too much khakuk why because allah knows
[24:59]that these muslims they have absolutely no respect for their neighbors so
[25:03]that's why we have to always what we have to always hear
[25:06]these hadith about the respect of your neighbors here your neighbors usually
[25:11]they respect you no neighbor will come and block your driveway put
[25:14]your trash in front of you they're friendly rarely you have a
[25:17]problem yes it might happen but it's rare there every person complains
[25:21]from their neighbor where's the ikhlaq that's number five number six you
[25:25]find the sense of humanity and mercy in the west do you
[25:31]know in the middle east when you go to the hospital not
[25:35]all parts of middle east but some parts of the middle east
[25:37]if you don't deposit some money before you enter the hospital they
[25:41]will never treat you even if you're bleeding to death they will
[25:45]tell you first deposit some money in the account of the hospital
[25:50]only then we will treat you i've heard so many stories i
[25:54]had a friend in one of the muslim countries he was bleeding
[25:56]he went to the hospital he had no cash with him he
[25:59]had money but no cash with him because he was brought very
[26:02]quickly he was bleeding they told them we're not gonna put you
[26:04]in the in the er unless you put some money in the
[26:06]account even if he dies and just a few weeks ago i
[26:10]read in one of the muslim arab countries a man dies in
[26:12]front of the hospital because he did not have cash with him
[26:16]too place has a deposit do they care they don't care will
[26:20]this ever happen in the west it'll be all over the news
[26:23]that hospital will close down if they let somebody die because they
[26:27]did not treat him because he didn't take money because he didn't
[26:31]have money with him even in the maybe in canada everyone has
[26:34]healthcare but even in the countries in the west that not everybody
[26:37]has healthcare if you don't have healthcare it's even in some most
[26:41]maybe western countries it's a crime it's clear you're not allowed to
[26:45]ask them about your money until after you treat them treat them
[26:49]finish and then go and after them and try to take the
[26:51]money from them you find the humanitarian side of the human being
[26:56]is here the mercy is here not in the muslim countries this
[26:59]is the ikhlaq you find it here when there is a problem
[27:02]in the middle east there is war there is poverty there is
[27:05]any type of problem a muslim when he seeks asylum does he
[27:10]seek asylum in a muslim country or non muslim country when there
[27:14]is war in the middle east muslims come running to non muslims
[27:18]they open their houses they open their countries they open their doors
[27:21]and they tell them come and we will give you asylum while
[27:24]muslim countries nothing and there are muslim countries that are rich they
[27:28]have billions of billions of dollars they have oil more than the
[27:32]entire watch don't they they can bring all those muslims that are
[27:35]displaced and give them asylum but they don't a muslim has to
[27:39]come and seek asylum from the kafir the mercy you find it
[27:45]here not in the muslim countries there's no mercy in the muslim
[27:47]countries and finally and i likewise i spoke a little about this
[27:51]you find the care and mercy towards nature and animals i gave
[27:57]the example here they're very concerned about everything being environmental friendly food
[28:03]cosmetics cars so on and so forth everything has to be environment
[28:07]friendly so we don't hurt the environment here you have recycling correct
[28:12]you have two two three trash cans the other day here i
[28:15]went outside i saw four four you know you have to go
[28:19]to school you have to take classes to understand you know where
[28:22]you put your trash there are those four i was literally four
[28:25]trash cans one is for bottles one's for this one's for that
[28:28]i don't even remember in the middle east you put everything in
[28:31]the same same trash can you don't know what recycling is they
[28:35]don't know what recycling is and they don't even care trust me
[28:38]i've heard many stories they don't care about recycling because they don't
[28:42]care about nature i went to new zealand recently my friends and
[28:49]they told me one of the greatest crimes here in new zealand
[28:52]is what one of the greatest crimes here is if you touch
[28:57]a tree if you cut down a tree up to ten years
[29:02]prison $100,000 fine first you have to go and seek approval from
[29:06]the city they told me you know in a joking way kill
[29:09]a human being but don't touch a tree if you know as
[29:13]if i was a tree i'd love to be a tree in
[29:15]new zealand because a tree there has so much rights you're not
[29:19]allowed to cut down a tree there they have respect for trees
[29:22]they want to build highways but the city won't let the people
[29:26]don't want why because this will require cutting down trees they have
[29:31]traffic problems because they don't want to cut down trees do you
[29:34]see how much respect they have for trees sometimes you think it's
[29:37]too much and likewise for animals likewise for animals you see how
[29:43]much in the west they care for animals you see their pets
[29:46]how they treat them just like their kids they they have a
[29:49]room sometimes they have clothes they have special food they take them
[29:53]out for walking this is good showing respect to animals nothing wrong
[29:57]with that being merciful even with animals this is very good and
[30:01]islam encourages this don't they have this good habits here they're very
[30:06]merciful with animals a brother he told me in one of the
[30:11]western countries he says that when i left iraq during saddam's time
[30:15]and his family members were being killed he says i was i
[30:18]sought asylum and i got refuge in one of the non muslim
[30:24]western countries he says one day i turn on the the tv
[30:28]and the news and i see that you know it's a it's
[30:32]a it's a breaking news what is it the firefighters and the
[30:35]police they have gathered at a house because there is a cat
[30:39]stuck on on a tree and they want to bring this cat
[30:42]down he said subhanallah all this commotion for a cat and i
[30:46]come from iraq where every day thousands heads are being chopped off
[30:49]and here the entire firefighters and police and the whole world they
[30:55]go crazy over a cat he said subhanallah he said now i
[31:00]realize that a cat here in that western country has more rights
[31:03]than a human being in the muslim countries animals in the west
[31:09]have more rights than human beings in the muslim countries sometimes like
[31:14]i said it's too much recently i read an article that a
[31:17]woman died in new york and before she died she had an
[31:21]inheritance of $4,000,000 and she wanted that money to go to her
[31:25]dog not her children sometimes you think it's too much they go
[31:29]too far with it but at least they have mercy even towards
[31:33]animals you see the cats here are so fat come to the
[31:37]middle east they're so skinny nobody cares about them they have to
[31:41]eat food from the garbage here masha'allah they have too much food
[31:46]so after all of this brothers and sisters we understand this point
[31:50]that if you're looking for akhlaq you won't find it in the
[31:53]middle east you will not find it in the muslim countries you
[31:56]will find akhlaq noble character here in the western world yesterday maybe
[32:01]in the day and night before we spoke up against the western
[32:05]society and we said that it's a society that's going towards immorality
[32:10]tonight i want to be fair yes we did say that the
[32:14]us has this and this and that's bad they're immorality but they
[32:17]have the good and we have to likewise speak about the good
[32:20]that we found here that we find here and we see here
[32:22]and that is akhlaq maybe they don't have morality here but they
[32:26]have what they don't have hayat but they have akhlaq they have
[32:28]rahmaq they have mercy in their hearts so you find that the
[32:34]west in their akhlaq non muslims that we call kufar and we're
[32:37]so happy about being muslims you find these kufar are light years
[32:42]ahead of us muslims in their akhlaq light years ahead my friends
[32:48]light years so the question is here why why are we muslims
[32:53]so behind in akhlaq didn't we say islam is the religion of
[32:57]akhlaq so why are muslims so behind in their akhlaq and their
[33:01]character the reason is simple my friends the reason why we muslims
[33:07]are so behind and lagging in our akhlaq is because we have
[33:11]misunderstood islam muslims have misunderstood islam if i were to ask average
[33:18]muslim what is islam about define me islam who is a religious
[33:25]muslim you know what most people will say they will tell you
[33:29]a religious muslim is someone that prays that gives us ghums and
[33:34]zakat that goes to hajj that fasts lady wears hijab he reads
[33:39]quran he does ibadah he has a long beard some countries the
[33:43]short ish dasha until the two meet right so to them this
[33:48]is islam it's a bunch of rituals wait what about ikhlaq how
[33:52]come you didn't say anything about islam being about ikhlaq ask most
[33:55]muslims what is islam about he'll just speak about the rituals yes
[34:00]the rituals are a part of islam yes salah is important but
[34:05]is that all of islam is that the whole of islam that's
[34:08]a part of islam you're forgetting about akhlaq and in fact my
[34:13]friends and i say this with complete conviction that the essence of
[34:17]islam and the most important part of islam is not the rituals
[34:21]it's the akhlaq it's the character a true muslim is not someone
[34:29]that just prays salah ibadah the long beard goes to hajjweed quran
[34:33]has a subhanahu wa that's not a true muslim that's a part
[34:36]of a muslim a true muslim is someone that has good manners
[34:41]someone that's respectful towards others someone that's polite this should be the
[34:46]most conspicuous trait of a muslim that stands out that when you
[34:50]think of a muslim you shouldn't think someone that has a long
[34:52]beard and just prays you should think of someone who's nice someone
[34:57]who's polite the exact image you have of a westerner this should
[35:00]be a muslim remember we said they're so nice and friendly and
[35:03]polite this should be a muslim not someone who prays the whole
[35:08]day but has the worst akhlaq who's frowning the whole day who's
[35:11]arrogant you can't talk to him so unfortunately we muslims we have
[35:16]misunderstood islam and that's why we're so behind in our akhlaq and
[35:23]listen to these ahadith from rasulullah to illustrate that illustrates to us
[35:27]the importance of akhlaq but before i mentioned salaallah muhammad the hadith
[35:39]the famous hadith of rasulullah says he says i was only sent
[35:52]so that i complete noble character i complete people's akhlaq i perfect
[35:57]people's akhlaq he did not say i was sent so people pray
[36:02]even though salah is important even though salah is the pillar of
[36:07]faith but rasulullah said he says that i was sent to complete
[36:16]people's akhlaq and another hadith a man comes to rasulullah and he
[36:22]asks him a question he says what is religion about what is
[36:29]islam all about rasoolallah he gives him one word he does not
[36:33]give him a lecture about what religion is he tells him having
[36:42]good akhlaq this is what religion is about so the man he's
[36:45]like what where does salaah go where does siyam go he asked
[36:49]the question again rasulullah once again he told him having good he
[36:57]asked a third time he thought rasulullah is not getting the question
[37:01]rasulullah told him the fourth time what's wrong with you i'm telling
[37:05]you religion is all about and in another hadith all of these
[37:15]hadiths show us the importance of akhlaq in islam they come number
[37:19]one nothing more important than akhlaq the hadith of alina al bakr
[37:23]he says in it the mu'min that has the highest levels of
[37:30]iman the person that has the highest levels of iman the imam
[37:34]says the ones that have the highest the best not the ones
[37:45]that pray the most the ones that have the highest so what
[37:49]are all these ahadith tell you that islam is all about and
[37:53]today muslims are the worst people in ikhlaq what type of muslims
[37:56]are they just muslims by name they have not understood anything of
[38:00]islam yes he goes to the masjid and prays the whole day
[38:03]but then he comes with the worst ikhlaq this is not a
[38:06]muslim a muslim is someone that has good akhlaq if i want
[38:11]to seek an earner to allah and i want to make my
[38:14]iman greater start by fixing your akhlaq by edifying your nafs by
[38:20]removing these vices from the nafs arrogance hatred of others vengeance of
[38:24]others envy greed selfishness anger all of these vices first remove them
[38:32]from your nafs that's the first step to becoming a better muslim
[38:37]remove these vices from the nafs and enhance your akhlaq and like
[38:44]i mentioned that akhlaq my friends comes before anything else and unfortunately
[38:50]we muslims we concentrate on other things on the rituals too much
[38:54]these hadith of rasulullah they show us how important is they show
[38:59]us that is the most important thing that we need one hadith
[39:02]from the holy prophet says this is such a beautiful hadith he
[39:06]says he says that a muslim who has good akhlaq allah subhanahu
[39:25]wa ta'ala he will put him in the highest levels of al
[39:28]jannah even if his aamal his ibadah his worship is average on
[39:33]the day of judgment you'll see some people on highest levels in
[39:36]the heavens did they pray salat al li'l no did they do
[39:41]musta habat no did they do any recommended hajj no no musta
[39:45]habat he just does the wajib does the minimum but he's with
[39:51]he's with the prophets he is with the best of the creation
[39:55]of allah why because he has because his character is noble he's
[40:03]a person that's well mannered that's respectful of everyone in the society
[40:08]and another hadith the holy prophet says the best thing that will
[40:17]help you on the day of judgment is akhlaab and the third
[40:20]hadith he says he says two things will help my ummah the
[40:28]most if they want to go to heaven number one piety and
[40:33]number two having good manners see how important how central khlaq is
[40:39]in islam it's a central part of islam but unfortunately to us
[40:43]muslims to us that's islam to us this is a muslim someone
[40:48]that just prays the whole day and in one hadith a beautiful
[40:54]hadith imam musaddiq alaihis salam he says allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will
[41:11]give someone for his good akhlaq the same reward that he gives
[41:15]to a mujahid someone that goes and fights for the cause of
[41:18]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala allah gives them the same reward allah wants
[41:23]us to have good akhlaq islam is all about akhlaq and tomorrow
[41:26]i will speak about the akhlaq of rasulullah and i'll show you
[41:30]i'll demonstrate how rasulullah the most thing that made him special the
[41:36]thing that made other people follow rasulullah was his akhla i'll speak
[41:40]about this tomorrow so all of this highlights to us this point
[41:45]that if we want to become true full muslims we have to
[41:48]begin by edifying our nafs our akhlaq enhancing our akhlaq there was
[41:57]a study that i read i'm sure many of you read about
[42:00]it a few years ago it was very popular and famous there
[42:04]was a study that was done by the george washington university a
[42:08]professor there he did a study to see which countries in the
[42:12]world implemented islam the most the values of islam he did this
[42:19]study and the results subhanallah shocking the first 32 countries all non
[42:25]muslim non muslims he found they implement the values of islam more
[42:31]than muslim countries islam is all about his because he opened the
[42:35]quran opened the hadith sees respect for others justice correct mercy respect
[42:41]for other human beings being polite that we spoke about he found
[42:46]this is all where this is all in the western countries the
[42:48]first muslim country was malaysia number 33 as for the arab muslim
[42:54]countries they're in the bottom of the list because they only have
[42:57]hold the name of islam where are the values nowhere subhanallah they
[43:03]implement islam more than us so when you object and you say
[43:08]if islam emphasizes on akhlaq so much why is it that muslims
[43:13]don't have akhlaq the answer is simple because muslims don't follow islam
[43:17]only in the appearance he looks like a muslim but he's not
[43:20]a muslim it's a fake it's a fake you know exterior dig
[43:25]beyond that there's nothing he's so shallow shallow faith that many muslims
[43:30]we have so the first 32 countries all western countries non muslim
[43:35]countries the first country was ireland and subhanallah this reminds me of
[43:39]a famous quote that we always hear it's either some people they
[43:43]ascribe it to jamal idina al ghani who was was a a
[43:46]as they say a thinker islamic thinker others they ascribe it to
[43:51]another person by the name of muhammad abda also a scholar he
[43:55]went either one of them he went one year to paris he
[43:58]was living in one of the muslim countries he went to paris
[44:01]for the first time he attended a conference and then he saw
[44:04]europe for the first time when he came back to the his
[44:07]country he said a famous line he said he said i went
[44:16]to the west i saw islam but no muslims what does he
[44:20]mean he saw the values of islam being implemented there he saw
[44:25]the ikhlaq that we spoke about of islam in the west he
[44:29]says he says then i went to the middle east the muslim
[44:40]countries so called muslim countries i saw so many muslims but no
[44:44]islam the teachings of islam of akhlaq you don't find them there
[44:51]subhanallah that's how they progress so much because they have the akhlaq
[44:55]that we muslims when we have a problem when we have a
[44:58]war we can't find shelter with other muslims we have to go
[45:02]to the kafir the kafir tells us come i will give you
[45:05]shelter who's implementing islam us or them but mashaallah we're so proud
[45:10]about having five daily prayers and they put on the tvs masjid
[45:14]al haram masjid al nabi mashaallah 1,000,000 people what's the point of
[45:17]these 1,000,000 people praying there when there's thousands upon thousands of muslims
[45:21]being killed every day this is islam just the appearance just appearance
[45:26]islam beyond that nothing and unfortunately we muslims many of us we
[45:35]have fallen to this trap that we have misunderstood the essence of
[45:39]islam we said the essence of islam is but when you ask
[45:44]an average person what is islam about show me a person who
[45:50]is as we say mutadaiyan someone who follows islam he's a devout
[45:54]muslim devout practicing muslim we say what we usually we find those
[45:58]individuals that just pray hold the sabhas they have the long beard
[46:01]they read quran they read dua and they come to the masjid
[46:06]the whole day they listen to the lectures this is a devout
[46:08]person this is a person that i consider as muttadayyan as long
[46:12]as he comes to the usainiyah as long as he comes to
[46:14]the masjid as long as he prays i consider him as a
[46:18]what good practicing muslim even if he has the worst akhlaq he's
[46:22]arrogant he disrespect other people he is someone that has hatred against
[46:27]other people correct even if he has the worst akhlaq with his
[46:32]family with his friends but as long as he comes to the
[46:34]masjid as long as he prays he comes to the usainiyah i
[46:37]consider him someone with saddaiyan right look at what the hadith of
[46:41]ahlul bayt say i saw this hadith from rasulullah and from imam
[46:44]al saddaik imam al saddaik and rasulullah they both say this someone
[46:49]used to come to imam al saddaik from his companions and used
[46:53]to tell him look at look at those muslims that don't follow
[46:56]ahlul bayt like the today's wahhabis for example he says look at
[47:00]them their salah is so beautiful their quran you go to masjid
[47:04]al haram they read quran such a beautiful way don't they masha
[47:08]allah you see five daily prayers they pray pray pray so much
[47:11]they pray so much such beautiful quran such beautiful salah so you
[47:18]may be deceived by this the the companion tells the imam look
[47:21]at they're so religious why are they so religious you know what
[47:25]the answer of the imam is the imam tells him the other
[47:33]hadith even if you see him praying do not be deceived the
[47:46]imam says this is only what a ritual a habit he's become
[47:56]like a robot programmed to do this every day without benefiting from
[48:00]it without understanding the point of salah and then the imam said
[48:10]he says if you want to truly find someone if he is
[48:12]mu'min he's mutadaian he's someone practicing islam devoutly look at his akhlaq
[48:19]is he honest is he trustworthy can you give him a trust
[48:22]and he'll give it back to you do you know in many
[48:25]muslim countries i have personally witnessed this many people they do not
[48:29]give loans even to his friends even if he has money and
[48:33]he doesn't need it he'll put it in the bank account he'll
[48:36]put it in his house but he won't lend it to others
[48:38]do you know why because once he lends it it will never
[48:40]come back it will never come back as soon as in muslim
[48:45]countries you take money halal you'll never give it back you have
[48:49]to say bye salaam alaikum to the to the money if you
[48:52]lend it to someone even if he's your friend because this is
[48:55]unfortunately how the society has become a society where there is no
[48:59]trust you can't trust anyone that's why people are afraid people want
[49:04]to give there is tawab for lending money to other people but
[49:08]you're afraid it's never going to come back the imam says if
[49:11]you truly want to see someone if he's a true muslim don't
[49:15]look at his salah at his exterior don't let that deceive you
[49:19]he says try him how to see if he's a true muslim
[49:22]look at his amana wasutkal hadith is he trustworthy can you entrust
[49:27]him with something will he give it back on time is he
[49:30]honest does he lie this is how we tell if a person
[49:34]is truly a muslim or not unfortunately we have people this day
[49:39]muslim masha allah praise comes goes to hajj goes to ziyara of
[49:43]arbaeen but when it comes to money when it comes to honesty
[49:47]they fail is this a true muslim the imam says no he
[49:51]says don't be fooled this is only an exterior and that's why
[49:55]there's a beautiful hadith from imam zainul abideen alaihi salaam abu hamza
[50:00]samali he narrates this he says in imam zainul abideen he told
[50:05]his shia one day he told his shia alaikombi ada al amana
[50:11]always give back the amana the trust that you're entrusted with if
[50:16]someone tells you keep this with you this is amanah this is
[50:18]a trust always give it back he says he says he doesn't
[50:37]mention the name but he says was to give me the sword
[50:41]or whoever killed imam hussein if shimr if shimr was to give
[50:44]me the sword that he killed my father hussein with and he
[50:48]would tell me keep this as a trust with you i would
[50:50]give it back the lesson is always be what trustworthy give back
[50:57]other people's belongings see ahlul bayt this is what made them special
[51:04]not just their ibadah yes they were the best in ibadah in
[51:07]salah in dua in quran hajj number one but not just that
[51:13]also in their akhlaq you find the imam he says even the
[51:16]sword that my enemy used to kill my father if he gives
[51:20]it to me and he says keep it with you and then
[51:22]give it back i will give it back because i have to
[51:25]be honest i have to be trustworthy i have to give back
[51:28]people's property subhanallah this was ahlul bayt alaihi musalam do you see
[51:35]what kind of family this was and then you see their enemies
[51:40]how vicious and how merciless they were imam zainul abidin says that
[51:45]i would give back the sword that they used to kill my
[51:47]father and the enemies even the children of ahlul bayt they prevented
[51:53]them from water they had to cry out there was no match
[51:59]ahlul bayt were way in the skies in their akhlaq and they
[52:02]were fighting a group that had absolutely no akhlaq zero akhlaq it
[52:09]was the night of ashura abu fadhil abbas alaihi wasalam was guarding
[52:14]the tents all the sudden he notices movement besides one of the
[52:21]tents he thinks it's one of the enemies he quickly goes he
[52:25]sees it's his sister zaynab my dear sister zaynab why are you

[53:18]to find me a wife and i want this wife to be
[53:21]from a noble and brave and courageous family aqeel he knew the

[53:38]he told your uncle aqeel because i want her to give me
[53:41]a brave courageous child that will defend my son hussain on the
[53:46]day of ashura amir al mu'mineen is planning for ashura so many
[53:52]years before he wants to protect his son hussein so then he

[54:20]her you're encouraging me and i am the son of ali don't
[54:28]worry i will make you proud as long as i am breathing
[54:34]no one will come close to my brother hussein the day of

[54:44]killed no one remained except abu al fadlil abbas he was hearing
[54:48]the cries from the orphans from these children he told his brother

[55:06]dear brother abbas you are the standard bearer of my army if
[55:09]you go i will be all alone between the enemies i can't
[55:13]let you go but then he told them but if you must

[55:20]water bring the children some water so he takes the buckets abu
[55:24]fadlil abbas he heads towards the enemies he left the sword he
[55:28]takes the bucket he charges like a lion the hadith says 4,000
[55:33]troops were guarding the euphrates river abu fadlil abbas he's removed all
[55:39]of them because he was the son of ali he was a
[55:41]lion he moved all of them out of the way he reached
[55:45]at the river he reached to the euphrates he came down from
[55:48]the horse abu fadlil abbas is dying from thirst he has not
[55:52]drank any water for a few days in that scorching heat he
[55:56]went down instead of seeing his reflection in the water he saw
[56:00]the face of abba abdullah in that water he saw the parched
[56:04]lips of abba abdullah he saw the sukainah and all the other
[56:08]children that's what he saw in the water because that's all he
[56:11]thought about he put his hands in the water he wanted to
[56:15]drink from that water but all of a sudden remembered that his
[56:19]brother hussein is thirsty he remembered that hussein is thirsty the children
[56:25]are thirsty how can i drink water when hussein is thirsty the
[56:29]hadith says he throw the water he did not allow himself to
[56:38]drink from the water and then he began reciting does not drink
[57:18]any water he fills the bucket he rides his horse and he
[57:23]goes towards the camp of hussein all the sudden one of the
[57:28]enemies ambushes him from behind he takes out his sword and then
[57:36]he strikes allah abbas on his right hand he severs the hand
[57:45]of al abbas al abbas doesn't care about his hands all he
[57:50]cares about hussein and sukainah and the children he says he says
[58:05]i don't care about my hand all i care about is my
[58:08]imam then he carries the bucket with his left hand he goes
[58:12]towards the camp and then one of the enemies takes the sword
[58:15]and he strikes on his left hand he was saying you die
[58:22]uh-uh al abbas he now he has no hands so he carries
[58:26]the bucket with his teeth he doesn't care about anything but the
[58:30]children of abu abdullah al hussein he rushes towards the camp of
[58:34]imam hussein holding the water with his teeth all the sudden one
[58:38]of the enemies he strikes one of the arrows it hits the
[58:43]bucket and all the water spills now allah abbas is home players
[58:50]the hadith says he did not know what to do should he
[58:58]go back to the tents but he has no water should he
[59:02]fight the enemies but he has no hands al abayahs in that
[59:09]condition all the sudden they began to throw the arrows on abu
[59:13]al fadhul al abbas one of the arrows pierced his chest another
[59:17]his eye and then one of the enemies hit al abbas with
[59:23]a metal rod on his head as al abbas fell he cried
[59:28]out farewell my brother and imam al hussein all the sudden he
[59:42]heard the call of al abbas he came running to the sides
[59:46]of al abbas he saw al abbas his hands are severed an
[59:51]arrow in his chest another in his eye he began to cry
[59:56]he sat down by the body of al ambayah and abbas could
[60:02]not see because in one of his eyes there was an arrow
[60:05]the other was filled with blood he thought this was one of
[60:08]the enemies that wanted to kill him so he told him oh
[60:11]enemy please don't kill me wait let me see my brother hussein
[60:15]before you kill me imam hussein told him my dear brother abbas
[60:19]this is me your brother hussein allahu akbar al abbas told him
[60:24]my dear brother hussein forgive me now you're gonna be left all
[60:27]alone between the enemies forgive me that i had to leave you
[60:31]so soon and then he made he made two requests from abba
[60:35]abdullah and both of them break our hearts the first request that
[60:39]al abbas had from his brother hussein he told him my dear
[60:43]brother hussein i ask you not to place my head in your
[60:47]lap why this is the biggest honor that you have your head
[60:50]in the lap of your brother hussein he told him because in
[60:53]a few minutes when you will be all alone between the enemies
[60:57]in whose lap will you place your head in my dear brother
[61:00]hussein allahu akbar do you see the loyalty of al abbas do
[61:05]you see the altruism of al abbas he said what's your second
[61:09]request he told them my second request my brother is after i
[61:13]die please don't take my body back to the tent imam al
[61:16]hussein used to take the bodies of all the shuhada back to
[61:19]the tent don't take my body why my dear brother he tells
[61:23]him because i promised surgaynah that i will bring her water and
[61:28]i am ashamed that she will see me without the water after
[62:03]abu al fadulillah 'ampas passed away the narrator is saying that we
[62:09]saw imam al hussain getting up but he had placed his hands
[62:13]on his back because now his back has broken and he cried
[62:18]out now my back has been broken now my enemies have prevailed
