[0:28]as we continue with the commentary on the beautiful dua of imam
[0:33]zain al abideen we reach a part of the dua where the
[0:42]imam reminds us and teaches us not only what to ask allah
[0:51]but we also learn through the duas of the ahlul bayt that
[0:57]we should ask allah for everything in our lives a lot of
[1:01]people they confuse what to ask they don't know when to ask
[1:07]or how to ask and second they think that when it comes
[1:13]to doing dua and supplicating that we should only ask allah for
[1:17]the big things in our lives if someone's dying if someone wants
[1:21]to get married if there's something a major issue in your life
[1:25]a major decision that you want to make in your life you
[1:28]ask allah for but we typically don't ask god for these small
[1:32]petty things that we think are petty but the quran and duas
[1:39]of the al bayt teach us to ask for everything because supplicating
[1:44]and asking is a form of worship in itself allah says in
[1:50]the quran your lord says call upon me and i shall answer
[1:56]you those who do istikbar those who look down upon asking allah
[2:09]upon the ibadah upon the worship then these people will be placed
[2:15]in the hellfire so here there's a correlation allah says then call
[2:23]upon me and i will answer you but then those who look
[2:27]down or are too arrogant in my worship this means supplicating and
[2:32]asking allah is a type of worship so don't look down upon
[2:36]it so we see that the imams of the ahl bayt and
[2:41]through these duas they teach us what to ask because oftentimes we
[2:45]ask for certain things that are harmful for us allah says in
[2:49]the quran oftentimes humans oftentimes we ask for certain things but it
[3:00]turns out that we're asking for something that will harm us we
[3:03]ask for certain things that will hurt us so we need to
[3:07]think about what we're asking and we need to keep in mind
[3:13]that all of the blessings and all of the happiness and all
[3:18]of victory and anything good that you want in your life you
[3:22]have to ask it from allah allah tells prophet musa o musa
[3:29]ask me even for the food of your sheep this is something
[3:33]that typically people don't even ask don't even think about but allah
[3:38]says even ask me for something as small as that something that
[3:41]you don't even worry about ask for that so now we move
[3:46]on with the dua dua makaram al aghlaq where the imam alaihi
[3:51]salam imam zainabdin he says the imam asks for several very important
[4:17]things and as we mentioned previously that in this dua the imam
[4:22]alaihi salam teaches us the honorable traits what are the honorable traits
[4:26]some of us we think that the honorable traits is when you
[4:29]smile to someone you hold the door when someone is walking in
[4:33]and that's all the honorable traits no honorable traits are what the
[4:37]imam defines in this beautiful dua so he says allahumma sallallaahu alaihi
[4:42]wa'alehi oh allah bless muhammad and his family we see that this
[4:46]is continuous throughout the whole dua the imam constantly because that is
[4:54]the greatest dua and this is why we see that it is
[4:57]repeated and then he says wa ma ta'ni bil iqtasad and make
[5:06]me enjoy moderation what does iqtasad mean this is something that the
[5:14]religion of islam expects of us as muslims we have to be
[5:18]moderate we should not be extreme in all aspects of life any
[5:24]type of extremism is not good my dear brothers and even extreme
[5:29]prayer extreme worship that is something that could be harmful because you
[5:34]have duties you have duties to your family you have duties to
[5:36]your job to your work to the environment so any type of
[5:42]extreme behavior is not good extreme eating extreme laughing extreme enjoying extreme
[5:50]vacation extreme playing extreme anything too much of anything is bad so
[5:56]the imam here he says because allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in
[6:03]the quran allah says we have made you a moderate a middle
[6:16]nation this means we are expected to be moderate in our behavior
[6:22]in what we do in our lives in even things that are
[6:27]good be moderate in them during the time of rasulullah there were
[6:33]some muslims who used to fast every day they used to not
[6:38]get married used to do certain things that showed that they are
[6:43]ascetic and they are letting go of this life and they're focusing
[6:47]only on allah and on their relationship with god the whole night
[6:51]they would spend it praying so they came and they thought we
[6:55]are worshipping more than rasulallah we're fasting more than rasulallah we're doing
[7:00]certain things that even rasulallah does not do here's where their extremism
[7:05]it took them it took the best of them they thought that
[7:09]they were better than rasulullah and that they are better worshippers than
[7:13]rasulullah so they came to the prophet and they tell him we
[7:17]prayed the whole night while you sleep we fast every day while
[7:21]you break your fast some days so rasulullah tells them and i
[7:26]am a better worshipper than you because god expects us to be
[7:31]moderate in our behavior and that is a type of worship and
[7:35]a type of closeness to allah so here the imam says make
[7:42]me enjoy moderation meaning let me be a moderate person in my
[7:47]behavior in my habits and everything that i do and place me
[7:57]among the people of the right behavior and from the guides to
[8:06]the right conduct and make me from the righteous of the servants
[8:15]of allah and provide me with victory at the return we all
[8:27]believe that there's a ma'ad that we are we are all going
[8:31]to return to allah a part of our faith a part of
[8:38]our is that we believe there is a ma'ad we will be
[8:41]resurrected from the grave so he says let me be victorious at
[8:47]the ma'ad at the end some of us we think we're victorious
[8:50]in this life but at the end we're going to be not
[8:53]so victorious so he says and safety from the mersaad what's the
[9:02]mersaad mersaad is the obstacles that we face and allah is watching
[9:13]over us so he says let me be safe safety in the
[9:18]mersaad now the imam moves on to talk about how allah supports
[9:29]us and we are in constant need of allah in every matter
[9:35]in our life don't think that there is something even something minute
[9:40]something so small that you don't need allah in we need allah
[9:44]in everything all guidance all blessings all good behavior anything if you're
[9:51]loved if you're liked if you're blessed all of that it comes
[9:55]from allah the imam he says he says the imam alaihi salam
[10:20]speaks about how everything good that we have that we do in
[10:25]our lives is from allah and whatever bad we're doing the evil
[10:31]sometimes we have the good and evil powers we all have that
[10:38]everyone has a good side and a bad side the imam saying
[10:41]o allah take from me and record from my actions only that
[10:46]which is good and don't take and disregard the bad that i
[10:50]have and increase and help me increase and work on the good
[10:56]the positive behavior that i have so he says o allah take
[11:03]to yourself meaning things that have to do with the akhirah and
[11:07]the afterlife in heaven from my soul what will purify it meaning
[11:12]i have good things only look at the good that i've done
[11:16]and leave for my soul that of my soul which will set
[11:21]it right for surely my soul will perish unless you protect it
[11:28]meaning that and leave for me what will improve me and take
[11:36]what will save me because my soul will suffer if you don't
[11:45]support me if you're not there for me and we all are
[11:49]in constant need of the support of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala one
[11:54]day the wife of the prophet says i saw rasulullah he got
[11:59]up in the middle of the night and i checked i saw
[12:02]that the prophet was not next to me then i saw rasulullah
[12:05]he is doing sujood and he is praying and in his sujood
[12:10]he is saying oh allah do not leave me independent to myself
[12:22]not even for a blink of an eye this is why we
[12:25]all are in constant need of asking allah for constant guidance why
[12:34]do we say that every day we say that because guidance it's
[12:38]not something that allah shows you the way and then that's it
[12:41]you're guided guidance is something that's continuous you're in constant need of
[12:47]guidance so he says take for yourself from myself something that will
[12:59]save me and leave to myself from myself something that will reform
[13:10]me typically what reforms us my dear brothers and sisters typically what
[13:15]reforms us is the tests and the trials that we face in
[13:20]life so sometimes when you're going through a difficulty this is something
[13:25]that's good maybe allah is leaving that difficulty a part of your
[13:29]life a part of the equation that you have to deal with
[13:32]on a daily basis why because this is how you will progress
[13:36]because this is how you will grow this is how you will
[13:38]become a stronger mu'min and a stronger believer and then imam zayla
[13:45]abdin he moves on to say oh allah you are my shelter
[13:56]when i'm sad and you are my recourse when i'm deprived when
[14:06]others do not give me it's allah subhanahu wa ta'ala who gives
[14:10]me it's allah who has constantly been giving me allah subhanahu wa
[14:16]ta'ala has never stopped giving me everything that we have in our
[14:20]life is from allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and then he says and
[14:30]you i seek help when i'm troubled when i'm going through a
[14:34]karitha when i'm going through a difficulty who should i turn to
[14:38]should i turn to someone who's far and not able to help
[14:42]me or should i turn to someone who is able to help
[14:45]me but refuses to me we and have to acknowledge that my
[14:49]dear brothers and sisters when we speak to allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[14:53]we have to know that our solutions and the solutions to all
[14:58]the problems are in the hands of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and
[15:10]with you is a substitute for what has gone by meaning that
[15:16]if we missed out on anything if something is gone and i
[15:20]missed out on it don't worry about it too much if you
[15:23]had an opportunity in this life and you missed it an opportunity
[15:27]that has to do with the dunya not the akhirah an opportunity
[15:32]that has to do with this dunya and you missed it it's
[15:35]okay you're gonna buy a house someone else bought it for you
[15:38]before you you're going to start a business transaction you're going to
[15:41]do something and you saw that someone else came before you it's
[15:44]not that big of a deal it's not the end of the
[15:46]world he says and with you is a substitute for what has
[15:56]gone by if i miss something in this life allah could substitute
[15:59]substitute it substitute for me and if you have missed out on
[16:03]something that's okay god can replace it anything that has missed and
[16:07]a correction for what has gone wrong and this opens a whole
[16:12]new door for us if we've made mistakes in our lives that's
[16:16]not the end of the world my dear brothers and sisters if
[16:19]you've made a mistake even when it has when it comes to
[16:22]do with god when it comes to your religion there's always hope
[16:26]this is why the imam says there's always a way to fix
[16:34]something but when you go through allah when you go through other
[16:37]means maybe you won't be able to fix the problems but if
[16:41]you go through allah you will be able to fix your problems
[16:47]so then he says and a change for what you disapprove meaning
[16:57]that if you're doing something something that's going on in your life
[17:01]and it's not going the right way you don't like it something
[17:05]that god does not like regarding you maybe you're doing something wrong
[17:10]you have a bad habit something that you can't let go of
[17:13]the tagheer the change comes from commitment but the change comes from
[17:24]allah some people they try to make a change but because their
[17:29]footing and their intentions are not pure they fall back but if
[17:33]you make the intention to make a change in your life allah
[17:37]will support you allah will be there for you allah says in
[17:42]the quran you have to say you have to turn to allah
[17:50]but you have to stand strong for what you're believing in the
[18:03]angels will be there to support you god will be there to
[18:06]support you so the imam he says the change in my life
[18:12]comes from god but yes allah gives us a general rule i
[18:21]can't change myself all on my own god will help me change
[18:25]but i have to take the initial step i have to make
[18:28]the decision to change and then allah will support me and be
[18:34]there for me and then the imam after he says with you
[18:38]is my guidance with you is my change if anything i have
[18:41]missed out on this life you could replace it for me then
[18:44]the imam says so grant me be kind to me by well-being
[18:57]before affliction falls upon me so he says before affliction falls upon
[19:06]me give me aafiyah give me well-being sometimes some people they forget
[19:12]to turn to allah so the affliction falls upon them we have
[19:17]traditions it says that whenever you feel or before an affliction a
[19:22]tragedy falls upon you turn to god and one of the best
[19:26]ways of turning to god is by giving sadaqah give charity go
[19:29]pray do dua turn to god so that the affliction will not
[19:34]come to you so he says and then he says and grant
[19:48]me and and suffice me against the burden of shame to the
[19:53]servants so be kind to me well-being before affliction falls upon me
[19:59]and grant me bounties before asking so meaning that oh allah you
[20:07]know what's in my mind before i go and i ask you
[20:11]give it to me and then he says and grant me right
[20:23]conduct before misguidance meaning oh allah you're the one who's able to
[20:31]guide me you're the one who's able to show me the way
[20:33]you're the one who's able to support me before i go towards
[20:37]valal before i go towards misguidance you be there for me to
[20:41]show me the way to guide me to support me and then
[20:45]he says and suffice me and by turning to other people i'm
[21:15]turning to you and the if i turn to you then i
[21:18]will stay the glory will stay with me the honor will stay
[21:22]with me but sometimes if i go and i knock on this
[21:24]person's door and that person's door that might lead to shame that
[21:29]might lead to some type of dishonor and dishonor in my life
[21:33]don't allow that to happen to me grant me before i fall
[21:36]in shame by turning to other people and grant me safety on
[21:53]the day of return the ma'ad and favor me with the best
[21:58]of guidance these are the duas of the ahlul bayt this is
[22:02]this is the dua of imam zaynah abdin then the imam continues
[22:07]and he says allah muhammad oh allah bless muhammad and his family
[22:25]and ward away evil from me take away the evil that's in
[22:34]my life any type of evil that comes towards me take it
[22:37]away and then he says and feed me or nurture me through
[22:43]your naam through the naam of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala it is
[22:48]god that can give you blessings all of the blessings that you
[22:51]have in your life are from allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and then
[22:55]the imam says he says and reform me through your generosity the
[23:11]reform in my life comes by the generosity of allah and heal
[23:17]me and heal me through your goodness if you're sick who's the
[23:24]one that could heal you who's the one that could guide you
[23:26]when we are sick it is allah and shade me and shade
[23:36]me in your shelter i don't want to go under anyone else's
[23:39]protection i want to be under the protection of my lord i
[23:44]want to be under the protection of the one who knows me
[23:47]the one who's been there for me at all times and wrap
[23:51]me unwrap me in your pleasure here the imam alaihi salaam is
[23:59]asking for everything he's not leaving anything out now someone might say
[24:03]this is too much you keep asking and asking but no with
[24:06]god we have to keep asking regarding anything and then he says
[24:20]he says and give me success to reach the most guided of
[24:25]affairs maybe you could be guided in several ways you talk to
[24:31]this person this person that person they're all good but here ask
[24:35]for the thing that has the most guidance the greatest of hidayah
[24:40]and the purest and when affairs confuse me and when i'm confused
[24:50]i don't know to make this decision or that decision or here
[24:53]or there let me make purest the most the most purest of
[25:00]actions and when the action seems similar and the most pleasing of
[25:12]creeds when creeds conflict when the milal when people when thoughts are
[25:18]conflicting against one another take me to something that is the most
[25:22]pleasing to you we go through that all the time my dear
[25:25]brothers and sisters in our lives sometimes we're confused sometimes i don't
[25:32]know what decision to make the actions are conflicting or confusing the
[25:41]thoughts are confusing my dear brothers and sisters right now we're living
[25:45]in a time where we see some muslims they don't know what
[25:48]is the right thing what is the right decision and not only
[25:51]right now this happens now and this happened a hundred years ago
[25:55]this happened during the time of the prophet during the times of
[25:57]the imams there were some people they looked at the prophet and
[26:01]the imams and they would go make a decision against the imams
[26:04]they would make a decision against the prophet so we need to
[26:08]constantly ask allah to help us make the best and the most
[26:13]sound decision asking for asking for guidance that is the greatest gift
[26:20]if we see the theme in the duas of the al al
[26:23]bayt and in the quran and in the words of the prophet
[26:26]and the al bayt we see that one of the major and
[26:29]most important themes something that we have to and we should always
[26:33]ask for is guidance we ask for that in surat al fata
[26:37]everyday why because if you're sick if you have a disease if
[26:44]you're poor if you're not doing so well financially it's okay these
[26:49]are all problems that can have solutions but if you're misguided then
[26:55]that is doom that is failure then if someone is misguided there's
[27:01]no way to correct the wrong that they've they're doing ask for
[27:05]clarity that's why allah says in the quran there are people they
[27:09]have the eyes and they have the ears and the hearts and
[27:12]the gifts that we have given them but they make wrong decisions
[27:17]they are like animals but they are worse than animals why because
[27:22]they're misguided we have to constantly ask allah for guidance being sick
[27:30]physically is better than being sick in terms of guidance and in
[27:35]terms of your thinking and your thought process be a free minded
[27:40]person be someone who's able to make sound decisions and someone who's
[27:45]able to accept the guidance this is the most important thing and
[27:50]more important than health and wealth this is why we see the
[27:53]duas of the ahl bayd they don't ask yes they ask give
[27:56]me health give me enough to suffice me and my wealth to
[28:01]take care of my matters but they don't ask to have so
[28:04]much and gather so much the way we are constantly working for
[28:10]gathering more money and being always healthy and all that's good of
[28:14]course but most importantly we have to ask for the hidayah for
[28:19]the guidance and ask for the best of the hidayah and guidance
[28:23]my dear brothers and sisters we ask allah to guide us all
[28:28]and illuminate our path and our minds so that we always see
[28:34]the haq and that we follow it
