People to Govern
Are we willing to help Imam Husayn (‘a), or not? Even if we are willing to help Imam Husayn (‘a), we haven’t done something special. The Imam of the Time’s (Mahdi’s) (‘a.j.) coming, won’t be fixed with this. You can’t say, “O Ibn al-Hasan, come. If there is a night like Ashura for you, I will be one of those who stay in your tent.”
The Imam would reply, “I’m sorry. I won’t have a night like Ashura. I believe you. If they surround me in a ditch where they want to slaughter me, you will help me. But, the world’s problems won’t be fixed like that. I want something else.”
I, as a witness and observer, believe that all of the people who mourn for Imam Husayn… Not all, 99% of them. No, 50%. If 50% of these mourners were in Karbala, they would have been sacrificed for Imam Husayn (‘a). If half of the mourners are willing to be sacrificed for Imam Husayn, how many people will that be? How many people? 50 million people? 20 million people? 1 million people? The number will be much more than 1 million people. So, why doesn’t Imam Mahdi (‘a) come? He is looking for 313 people.
Imam Mahdi’s (‘a.j.) mission is not like that of Imam Husayn (‘a) in Karbala. Do you understand? When a person is going to be martyred, he will be corrected automatically. Imam Mahdi (‘a.j.) wants to govern.
Like the martyrs of Karbala, who were so devout the night before Ashura, you must be that pure in Imam Mahdi’s government. “It’s very hard to be that pure while governing! Many religious people have gone astray. How? They were revolutionary. But, they went astray. There is money and fame in power! It’s not that simple.”
Imam Husayn’s training is the beginning of the way. Because, we won’t have a situation like what Imam Husayn (‘a) had. If there is a situation like Imam Husayn’s, the Islamic nation will win. Look at the Martyr Hujaji and other martyrs. There are many people like them.
So, why doesn’t Imam Mahdi (‘a.j.) come? It is not that the level of the companions of Imam Mahdi is higher than the martyrs of Karbala. Their function is different. The martyrs of Karbala were unique people in their own situation. But, in a situation like Karbala, what Imam Mahdi wants to accomplish won’t happen. Imam Mahdi wants very special companions.
If we are going to sacrifice ourselves for a lonely and oppressed person, we will certainly do this. Imam Mahdi says, “Excuse me, I don’t want to be lonely and oppressed. I want to be a ruler. I want to be powerful.”
What should you sacrifice? Your world, although you are still alive. It is very easy to pass on this world when a person is going to be martyred. If there is a situation like Imam Husayn’s, the Islamic nation will win. It is not that the level of the companions of Imam Mahdi is higher than the martyrs of Karbala. Their function is different. It is very easy to pass on this world when a person is going to be martyred. What should you sacrifice? Your world, although you are still alive. Imam Husayn’s training is the beginning of the way.
The Nights of Destiny
Don’t miss these special nights.
These are the words of Hazrat Zahra (‘a). She said, ““Whoever sends his pure worship acts towards God, God will determine the best expedient for him.” Ayatollah Bahjat said, “If difficulties do not affect the way you worship, your problems will be resolved.” Based on this, I tell the friends who have problems to forget their difficulties when praying. After prayer, they’ll see they don’t feel so weighed down. Isn’t it time to pray? Aren’t you in debt, taking care of someone who is sick, or have to deal with thousands of problems? When saying, “Allahu Akbar” (God is the greatest) push these aside with the back of your hand and pray. “God, I don’t have any difficulties now. I’m not in debt. I don’t have thousands of pains and miseries. I am only Your servant now.” This is “pure worship.” Then say, “Allahu Akbar.”
Consider the “Jawshan Kabir Supplication” you recite in the Nights of Destiny. Can’t you just recite the “Jawshan Kabir Supplication”? “But, where can I talk about my debts in the Supplication?” “You don’t need to mention them. Just say, ‘Release us from the fire, O Lord.’” [Jawshan Kabir Supplication] Call God by His beautiful names. Say, “I am calling Your beautiful names because Your names are beautiful. You are dear, lovable and attract people.” Worship as if you are truly worshiping! Worship sincerely. Then, you’ll be given the best expedients. For example, a disease was going to cause your spiritual growth. But, they say, “A small cold is enough.”
I suggest to you honorable people that whoever has not worshiped for the last year should come. It’s the Night of Destiny. Worship this one night. Don’t let Satan mislead you on the way by saying, “You weren’t corrected during this whole year. Now, you want to travel a hundred year distance in just one night?” Satan is a dastard. He is very wrong to say these things.
Yes, one can travel a hundred year distance in just one night! “(Worship) on the Night of Destiny is better than (worship) for a thousand months.” [Qur’an 97:3] Who is Satan to come and make me hopeless! Satan says, “You want to become like Ayatollah Bahjat in one night?! Now you’re worshiping so much! You don’t even know how to make the ablution! Now, you’ve made it and want to worship till morning?!” Satan says these things to you. Say, “Yes, I want to worship tonight.”
Some reach high levels in the Nights of Destiny. A person worships one night, but he travels a distance of a 100,000 months. So why have they said a thousand months? 1,000 is a hyperbole. I’ll worship one night. Very good, you who don’t miss this night. When Fatimah Zahra’s children wanted to sleep during this night – they were young - she would pour water on their faces and wash them very kindly. She would say, “My dears, you should stay up tonight. Tonight is the Night of Destiny. You shouldn’t sleep.” Staying up is a way of being humble in front of the Lord. It’s a respect to destinies, which God is determining for you. God is very gracious. He wants to write something for you, but He sees you’re sitting in the gathering and saying “By Your right, O God,” and “Release us from the fire, O Lord.” So God says, “I don’t like to punish him anymore!” “God, he has come. He is sitting and waiting.” God says, “Ok. Don’t write this. Don’t write the other one either. Write the best expedient for him.”
The Night of Destiny is not only for praying for one’s personal destiny. The Night of Destiny is for a society’s destiny too. If for the society and community that you are living in a destiny full of suffering is determined, you’ll be hurt too, even if you are a good person. We should rescue our society from a bad destiny on the Night of Destiny. Perhaps that is why it is good to pray in a group.

High School Husbands!
The Quran states, “…mates from your own selves that you may take comfort in them…” “and He ordained affection and mercy between you.” God introduced three very important functions in this verse.
What does affection mean? The difference between love and affection is that affection is expressed with words. Love is transmitted with a look. It has been written this way in the dictionary. A tradition says that it is more emphasized that a man should express love to a woman than a woman to a man.
One time a person came to Imam Sadiq (‘a) and said, “My wife bothers me.” The Imam (‘a) said, “You don’t tell your wife ‘I love you’ very much. Tell her.” If you go into the kitchen and wash all the dishes, it is not equal to saying one time, “I love you.”
Someone said, “All of the things that I do, making money, and working hard are because I love her. I don’t need to say it.” This man is comparing a woman with himself. A man doesn’t need a woman to tell him that she loves him very much. But, the opposite is true.
The Holy Prophet of Islam (s) said, “If a man tell his wife one time ‘I love you,’ this will stay in her heart till the end of her life.” It means that she won’t forget it. Have you seen some men say, “We said it one time. It is enough.” Because they see it has been so effective. No, each time it is said, its effect is something else.
Affection means this love should be expressed. I don’t want to create an argument between you, but some men have been raised in a house where their father hasn’t expressed his love to their mother. So, they don’t know how to do it. These men should take a course. The best coaches are their wives. They should teach these men little by little with the methods that they know.
The woman should say at different times, “One of my beautiful memories is the day that you told me, ‘I love you.’” When she says this, the man will gradually understand that, “Oh, this is very important for my wife.” Some married men have kept their high school way of thinking.
During high school, a person needs a friend. He likes his friend to be something like himself. Then when he wants to marry, he thinks he wants another friend. But, this time his friend shouldn’t have a beard and a moustache! It should be someone from the opposite sex.
No, a woman is different from a man, and we have to understand this. These men should take a course. The best coaches are their wives. They should teach these men little by little with the methods that they know. The woman should say several times, “One of my beautiful memories is the day that you told me, ‘I love you.’” When she says this, the man will gradually understand that, “Oh, this is very important for my wife.”
